Many thanks.There is no free upgrade to Snow Leopard, you have to buy it. In the US, call the Apple online store at 800-MY-APPLE, and buy Snow Leopard off the legacy products list. Make sure that your system meets these specs for Snow Leopard.
When you get it, insert DVD in drive, and proceed. 10.5.8 Leopard comes just before 10.6 Snow Leopard, so there are not any interim operating system updates required. After you install the Snow Leopard DVD, run Software Update until there are no updates left. Of course, you should have a system backup before doing the upgrade. -
Does anyone else get a Netfix window popping up unexpectedly? I have an iMac with OSX 10.6.8 and Safari browser version 5.1.10. It only happens when I go to a specific local news site, and it is only a Netflix window that opens up. I do have a Netflix account.

My machine was purchased in 2007, I think. It's model iMac8.1 with the Intel Core 2 Duo processor and CPU speed is 1.07 GHz.
What I am asking has to do more with the OS X opsys version than the size of the memory. My question is prompted by my son suggesting that I should upgrade and purchase MS Office and substitute for the factory-provided OpenOffice.org application.

I have new MacBook Air. When I first got it, I migrated some of my files from my PC to the MacBook Air without any problems. Now I'm trying to migrate more files, music, etc. and I keep getting the continuous spining circle with "Looking for Other Computers." I've tried everything and for some reason it is not finding my PC. What am I doing wrong?
Use the trackpad to scroll, thats what it was designed for. The scroll bars automatically disappear when not being used and will appear if you scroll up or down using the trackpad.
This is a user-to-user forum and most people will post on here if they have problems. You very rarely get people posting to say there update went smooth. The fact is the vast majority of Mountain Lion users will not be experiencing any major problems with the OS, or maybe with apps which are not compatible, but thats hardly Apple's fault if developers don't update their apps. -

I have an imac osx 5 months old. For the first time today I can not open my desktop folders which are very important to me. How can I open these folders.
The message when I click on the folder is "appleworks 6 quit unexpectedly". I can not open the folder. Is it possible that new software installed could cause the problem when I get the message "new softward available for your computer, install now. Maybe I should never install upgrade. I understand code injected into a specific app like safari that uses the global environment variable to access the code in /Users/Shared. But I don't understand how that code could be executed by attempting to run an randomly chosen ppc app. Unless of course other code has been injected is in a more critical place than just safari and that is scary.

In a related matter, I got word from the PC side of the house that similar techniques are being used by drive-by infections that were injecting code into a running app which would disappear when they quit the app. A one-time infection, so to speak. Makes it really hard to even know you were temporarily infected, let alone how, why, what damage, etc. -
I used to be able to choose print options with Firefox and now I can't. It forces me to use photo paper when I want only to use plain paper. I do not have this problem with Safari or IE, just firefox. I have an office jet 4500 HP printer

Apple didn't create the Windows Phone app (Microsoft). Apple has nothing to do with this, and Google should do an app for this

Got a new video camera for Christmas, Samsung HMX-F80, it down loads pictures just fine, but videos I just can't get it to down load. I was able to down load to my PC part no problem.

I am wondering if there's anything special I need to do to make sure all my data and settings on my 3G iOS 4.2.1 phone will be transferrable to my new 4G or 4S iOS 5 phone. Is it just do a backup and transfer it to the new handset or something else given the different OS? I just purchased a new imac and after connecting my HP CP1215 color laserjet printer found that HP does not support this printer. I contacted Apple support and they could not supply any help. Is there a alternate way/software avalable to make this printer work with my imac?
Of course, once I posted this, I tried again and downloaded the driver without issue.
My second question still stands, however:
Scanning is not supported on my printer model with the Hewlett Packard Print 2.12 driver. Will support be forthcoming, or did Mountain Lion brick my scanner? -

Open System Preferences > Displays > select the window for you external monitor > click on the Arrangement tab and check the box next to Mirror Displays. It may be slightly different in Lion, but the idea is the same.
