I have an Ipod touch 2nd generation and i just updated it and i lost all my songs and apps. Now i have the 4.2 version but i can even any apps and it wont let me update it again. How can I get my songs back and update my ipod again?
Can anyone awnser this?
- You can redownload iTunes purchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
However, you only can download the current version of app.
- For apps your only way is if you have the version that was compatible on your computer such as in the recycle bin/trash or in a computer file backup. In that case delete the current version that is in your iTunes App library and replace it with the older version. Then sync.

My Ipod Touch 2nd Generation Froze And Is Trying To Install ALL Of My Apps!
A few hours ago my ipod touch 2nd generation froze, and then it took about 15 minutes to unfreeze. Now it's working very slow. I soon realized that it's trying to istall ALL of my apps I've downloaded since I got my ipod. I had to attempt to shut off the wifi so it would stop. right now over 25 apps are on Pause. I don't want to restore my ipod because I last did a backup about a few months ago. My computer is out of memory, and it's a very slow computer. I recently send an email to apple because of an issue I had with two missing itunes store purchases that it deleted off of my ipod when I connected it with itunes. They never emailed me back and it's been over 24 hours. Could apple be attempting to send me back ALL of the things I've purchased and downloaded with my account? If they are, IT'S NOT FUNNY
- First try restoring from backup
- If problem persists, restore to factory defaults/new iPod
If still a problem you likely have a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order. -
i have an ipod touch 2nd generation, i'm trying to get apps that will work and i cant find any. Its says i need an update because it has ios 3.1.3 , but on itunes it says there is no update ? what apps can i get??
Sounds like you actually have a 1st generation as those cannot update beyond iOS 3.1.3.

what is the point of the Ipod Touch(2nd generation)?Every single app is not compatible with it.Am I missing something? My cell phone cost 1/2 as much and does way more. This is why I don't normally purchase any apple products.Overpriced flashlight, that's about all it does.
There are still some apps compatible, with the 2G. Also, since September, Apple has now allowed download the last version of apps that were compatible with the 2G but have been updated to no longer be compatibles
To more easily find compatible apps:
iOSSearch - search the iTunes store for compatible apps.
Apple Club - filter apps by iOS version.

I have an Ipod Touch 2nd generation. I bought a Itunes card and when I went to add game apps(like Temple Run) to my Ipod it said I couldn't.Is there a way to upgrade this ipod without having to buy a new one to be able to play the games?
You can update it to 4.2.1
Open itunes, connect ipod. If there is an update available, then it will prompt you to update. -
My current laptop is about three years old and got a virus. Had to wipe it clean. Now my Ipod Touch-2nd generation is not recognizing it as the primary original computer and says it is registered on another computer. What can I do to safeguard my library of songs on the Ipodtouch. Any suggestions?
Syncing to a new iTunes library or computer will erase your iPod. Only if you back up your iPod manually before syncing, you can restore your device from that backup again. A manual backup does not include the sync process.
Do this:
Disable autosync in iTunes, connect your iPod to your new computer and right click on it in the device list and choose backup. iTunes will backup your ipod without syncing.
Transfer your purchases the same way, choosing "transfer purchases" this time.
When you connect your device for the first time, all media content will be erased. But you can restore your settings and app data from your manual backup afterwards.
Don't forget to set up at least one contact and event on your new computer to be able to merge calendars and contacts when you sync the iPod for the first time.
Music is one way only, from the computer to your device, unless you bought the songs in itunes and transferred your purchases.
There is 3rd party software out there, but not supported by Apple, see this thread:http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2013615&tstart=0

I have an iPod Touch (2nd Generation) and it's running iOs 4.2.1.
Is there any way I could update it to iOs 4.3 or later? With 4.2.1 theres no good games nor apps to use! If I go to an Apple store could I update it? At my school we use iPod touch (2nd Generation) and it's updated to iOs 4.3.
"Is there any way I could update it to iOs 4.3 or later? "
No. Sorry.
"f I go to an Apple store could I update it? "
Still no.
"At my school we use iPod touch (2nd Generation) and it's updated to iOs 4.3."
No it is not. This is not possible, Ipod touch second gen cannot run anything higher than ios 4.2.1 -
I recieved an apple ipod touch 2nd generation as a gift and they have reset it to factory settings and now it is stuck on a screen with an adaptor showing with the itunes music symbol at the top of the screen.
Restore...
Connect via cable to the computer that you intend to use for sync. From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab. Follow the on-screen directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup. You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod. Again, say "yes."
At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod. As before, say "yes." Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time. If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device. Corrective action is simple - choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.
If you're unable to do the Restore and you have IOS-6 or lower, go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here. Also, if you have IOS-7, read this. -
my ipod touch 2nd generation is no longer reconized in itunes when connected to my computer. I have tried different ipod cables and nothing works.
Hi Imminnie,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities. If iTunes doesn't recognize your iPod touch, this article may help:

If issues persist, a thorough removal and reinstall of iTunes would be the next thing to try:

I have just aquired an iPod Touch 2nd Generation 8GB. When it is connected to my PC, running Vista home, it says it has synced successfully but I can,t transfer onto it an album I have bought and downloaded from iTunes. Help!!! This is my first Apple product so I have no experience and no manual.
Was the iPod previous synced to another iTunes library/computer? If so you can only use the manual method and that only works with music and videos.
