I have deleted hundreds of pictures, I've deleted apps, deleted emails and texts, and I've turned off and deleted backups of apps on icloud and it is still telling me that there is not enough icloud storage available for my phone to be backed up. I am supposed to do this before I go to the Apple store today to get my phone fixed. Can someone please help me? I have done almost everything.

This article explains ways to reduce your iCloud storage: Managing your iCloud storage.  In addition to what's mentioned in the article, if you have lots of photos and videos attached to your text messages, these are all included in your iCloud backup and deleting them can sometimes significantly reduce the size of your backup.
If worse comes to worse, back up your phone to your computer rather than iCloud.  To do this, connect it to your computer, open iTunes and go to File>Devices>Back Up and to File>Devices>Transfer Purchases.  This can be used to restore your data when you get your phone back.  (In fact, it's faster because you don't have to download the data from iCloud.)

    Hey there Apple Users

My iPad is stuck. The little box stating that there is not enough iCloud storage available will not close or allow me to go to settings....I have tried to shut it down but it won't let me access the slide to power off button either.  Any thoughts???

    Try this.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

  • Im trying to burn an iDVD and its saying that there is not enough free disk space for encoding the remaining assets.

Im trying to burn an iDVD and its saying that there is not enough free disk space for encoding the remaining assets. My main hard drive only has a few hundred Mb left on it so i bought a 1 Tb external hard drive and want to know how to make iDVD use the space on the external hard drive instead trying to use the main hard drive. Any help would be awesome! thanks

    Hi
    Yes - This is important.
Free Space - Must be on the Start-Up (Mac OS) hard disk and can not be used on any other.
My safe level is a minimum of 25Gb free space - to let iDVD and Mac OS run OK.
This is due to that Mac OS X is in reality UNIX and there by needs lot's of temporary space for temp. files and so does the application iDVD. And this can not be addressed elsewhere.
So to free up space - one thing is to move iMovie Events to an external hard disk BUT THIS MUST BE DONE Right Else all can be lost ! !
    • Never move or adjust any folders Named - iMovie Events or iMovie Projects - on Desktop/Finder - links will breake and can be hard to impossibly to heal. ALL movings must be done within iMovie Application (it goes for iMovie'08 to 11)
    • External Hard Disk - MUST BE - Mac OS Extended (hfs) formatted - UNIX/DOS/FAT32/Mac OS Exchange will NOT WORK FOR VIDEO - nearly everything else BUT NOT VIDEO.

  • HT1766 Everytime I try to back up my Iphone it stops and tells me that there is not enough icloud storage available

Everytime that I try to back up my iphone to icloud there is a message that appears that reads "This iPhone cannot be backed up because there is not enough iCloud storage available." So my phone has never been backed up, any suggestions?

Yes Mathmom815...I am having same problem!  I noticed all Posts on the Apple Community regarding this issue just "STOP" when we respond that we have adjusted all settings and that there is enough storage available.
One different Post I read mentioned "Mail & Texts" also take up space....and I noticed my mail app is downloading OLD mail, and it sometimes says I have hundreds of email...then sometimes it says I have only a few.  I have adjusted my mail settings and are now downloading NO email.  Is there a glitch with the 4s that stores excessive email?  Is this "glitch" holding up storage space?  IF so, where on the phone does it tell you how much space the Mail & Texts are using?
    HELP....

  • Why does my Mac keep telling me that there is not enough memory when I need to open Excel?

I have Excel installed on my iMac.
I only use this rarely, mostly when I have grants to write for my students.
When I try to open Excel, to look at an old document, I get the message that there is not enough memory, even though my Mac right now has 74 GB available.
I really, really, really need to access these files, so am hoping for an answer to this puzzle!
    Thanks so much!!!

OK, so here's what I did.
First time, I reinstalled Office: 2008.  It must have sent the first one to the trash, because there were 9200+files in the trash once it was finished.  It looked for updates but didn't tell me that it needed any, so I tried to access Excel again, but got the same error message.
So, then I dragged the whole Microsoft Office 2008 to the trash (it is still sitting there----question about this, too).  I reinstalled the whole thing again, but this time, it identified 3 updates that also needed to be installed.  I did that, and now, I am able to open Excel!
Now my question about the trash:  if I empty the trash, am I going to lose all the files (especially worried about all the Word documents) that I had used the original one for, or, are all those documents, and the Excel files, still  there after the trash with the original Office 2008 is emptied; I wasn't able to only drag Excel to the trash so had to drag the whole thing.
Am thinking that somehow those updates were never applied, which is very puzzling, because the first time I reinstalled, it didn't say anything about needing updates, but the second time, it did.
    Thank you!

  • HT204022 This iphone cannot be backed up because there is not enough iCloud storage available.  Can you help up delete some of our pictures that are backed up so that we can continue to back up the phone?

This iphone cannot be backed up because there is not enough iCloud storage.  Can you help me take the pictures off the icloud since I backed them up on my pc and would like to continue to use the storage in icloud to back up with.

you are correct. We are not understanding each other. I am attempting to provide a model for good habits for the OP. You have provided only a short term brief intervention which leaves a gaping hole for data to get lost in.
At no point did I say that merely backing up the device without saving the camera roll pictures would delete them.  Please stop inferring what you think I mean, you are confusing the issue. I said that doing so was SETTING UP the OP for data loss. This behavior encourages the OP to simply shut off their backup for their pictures. At no point did you instruct the OP to delete the old pictures from the device. The set up part is this... if they simply turn off the camera roll backup, and aren't implementing some form of management for the pictures on the device, then the pictures are only being actually saved, in a "permanent" manner when the OP backs up to itunes. That's all fine and good, but this also presumes that the OP will always do so on a regular basis, will never forget to do so even when there are a ton of new, very important pics to worry about.
My suggestion allows the OP to continue to use the automatic backup feature the way it was intended...automatically...for the information that has not yet been saved to the user's computer. The whole point here is that the OP can keep their pics AND still benefit from automatic backups without disabling the cameral roll from being backed up into the icloud.
Should this poster have walked into my fruit themed store, I would recommend that the OP do the following:
    1. back up the pics to the computer (done)
    2. REMOVE THE BACKED UP PICS FROM THE PHONE
    3. Learn about and utilize PHOTOSTREAM (including its limitations like no videos, only 1000 pics and only for 30 days) to make backing up and saving the photos from the phone easy and simple
    4. Explain how backup works and what it backs up
    5. Reassure the OP that even if they haven't backed up to itunes lately or have not bothered to properly save their pictures using another device and PHOTOSTREAM, that their oversight won't be catastrophic in circumstances where failure to do either of these things and being met with tragedy, does not necessarily mean that the OP is SOL. The automatic backup is another line of defense against data loss and can save the OP's precious memories, TEMPORARILY, until they can be transferred to another device for "permanent" storage. Why disable a line of defense?
I see it all the time. Full icloud, camera roll turned off, device not backed up to itunes nor pics saved for weeks because they were too busy, didn't feel like it or were just plain lazy.  Then, a wedding, birth, Halloween, Naughty time with the hubby, whatever it may be its an event with a LOT of pictures taken. Then, then next day or so, before the manual saves can happen, the device is damaged and needs to be replaced. There's no backup, nothing saved and the user loses ALL of the pics from the special event. IF they had properly managed their pics and only kept stuff on there that they really needed, deleted the rest after saving their pics elsewhere, and thus kept the backup size small enough to use, the backup would happen unattended overnight, and even though catastrophe still happens,  all the pics from the big event are recovered on a new device using the iCloud backup.
Do you see the difference?  I hope you do, and i hope so does the OP.  I have a great deal of experience here, take advantage of it or not. Accept my help or be stubborn about it, Your choice. I am finished posting into this thread now.  Take care and good luck with your data.

  • How do I download a movie to my phone?  when I click 'rent' through itunes, I get a message that there is not enough available local storage, but I can manage my local device storage usage in 'Settings'.  I have activated icloud, but this has not helped.

How do I download a movie to my iphone 3G?  When I click 'rent' in itunes, I get a message that there is not enough available local storage, but I can manage storage on my device in 'Settings'.  I have activated icloud, but don't know how to change my storage so that I can rent and watch the movie on my phone.  thanks for any help you can give.

I always do my Rentals with the itunes program on the computer.
Make rental from itunes store. It will show in movies under library, DO NOT click to play it. Plug in the device to the computer. Click the name of the device on left. Click on movies. There is an  option to copy to the device. Sync. obviously you still need space on ipad to put rental but you can have it take computers hard drive space until you need it.

    Try doing a hard reset:
Press and hold both the Home button and the Sleep/wake button simultaneously for about 15 seconds and release when the Apple logo appears.
After that: go to Settings - iCloud - Storage and backup - turn off the iCloud backup
and backup with iTunes from now on

First, press and hold the home and power buttons until the Apple icon appears.
The problem could be that you don't have enough storage on the device itself, not on iCloud.  Go to Settings>General>Usage to see how much "Storage" you have available on the device.  Farther down the list is the available storage on iCloud.
    Also check:
Go to Settings>iCloud>Storage & Backups>Manage Storage; there, tap the device you need info on and the resulting screen lists Backup Options with which apps store data on iCloud as well.  Tap Show All Apps to get the complete list of apps and MB used for backup storage.
A device needs many MB of storage in order to perform a backup to iCloud.

Why am I being told that my iPad cannot be backed up because there is not enough iCloud storage available when I have 18.1GB of storage available in my iCloud account?

You shouldn't be, but you would have to contact Apple support to find out what the issue is: http://www.apple.com/support/icloud/contact/.  If you are outside of your free support window there would normally be a charge for the call but under the circumstances you could plead your case that you should not be charged.
