I have done an erase and install but my printer is there

Hello all,
I have installed Leopard with an erase and install and come across that there is some printer information. Automatically, Leopard has the Photosmart C6100 as the printer and I cannot remove that. Why is that?
Thank you

After the Leopard install, Leopard looks and configures any USB or Bonjour compatible printer. This is very efficient and a time saver. It detected yours because you must have that printer connected either through USB or Bonjour. What's the matter with that?

  • Just done the 'Erase and Install', I can't find the Hard Drive I backed up my files on?

I have just done the 'Erase and Install' process, but before I did, I backed up my files to an External Hard Drive using Time Machine. I have now restored my Mac and gone through the Erase and Install process, but now, when I plug in my external hard drive, I cant find it anywhere? I've tried quite a few things, but no luck! Also, what has happened to iMovie and iPhoto and all those Applications?! They have dissapeared!

That should mean that all of your data on the MBP is backed up to an external HDD.
    - Yes, should be. But when I plug it in the Mac, no menu or pop up comes up. Showing what to do next.
I have now restored my Mac and gone through the Erase and Install process, but now, when I plug in my external hard drive,
If you restored your internal drive with Time Machine, did you then ERASE and install?  What did you erase and what were you installing?  What is on the external HDD that has the Time Machine backup on it?
    - I talked to the Customer Support and they said just erase the Startup Disk or something? So I did. Because I basically just wanted to restore my Mac.
    I cant find it anywhere?
    What is it?
    - The External Hard Drive when I plug it in.
I've tried quite a few things, but no luck!
What are 'quite a few things'?
    - Things that I have researched like going into 'Finder' then going into 'Preferences', 'General', then ticking 'Hard Drive' under the option of 'Show these items on the desktop:'
what has happened to iMovie and iPhoto and all those Applications?! They have dissapeared!
I would think that they should be on the Time Machine backup (assuming the external HDD has not been erased) if not the internal HDD.
    - Hopefully if I can figure out this.

when syncing with itunes, got error message saying had error and now ipad2 will not do anything other than showing the USB cable with arrow pointing to Itunes on screen.  have done the reset and restart, but still get same thing.  Ipad does not show up in itunes even though cable plugged in.  Have shut down and restarted Windows 7 computer.

I had done all of that to no avail.  I did call Apple Tech Support and after he suggested I try a USB port in the rear of the Win 7 computer, things starting working again.  I had tried switching the USB port at the front of the machine but that had not helped.  Everything is good to go again.  thanks for  your reply

Is there a service manual available to help trouble shoot a MF8350CD MFP?  Its noisy and grinding, but still prints.

    Hi bryanmonger.
Please note that Canon does not provide service manuals or instructions on disassembling the machine.  If you are hearing a grinding noise in the machine, there could be a few causes, such as, the type of toner cartridges you are using, a loose or broken part in the machine, or an issue with one of the assemblies.
We recommend that you contact us at 1-800-OK-CANON (1-800-652-2666) for further assistance.  While I understand that the forum may be the preferred method of communication, the real time feedback of a live technical support call would be very beneficial in this case.

  • I have uninstalled, downloaded latest and installed but it still doesn't work. Why are there still files leftover even after manually removal whatever I could?

I am a Windows 8.1 user. I have followed instructions found online. But still nothing works.
McAfee is still saying Firefox is untrusted and will not run it.
I have managed to delete some folders containing Firefox but there are some still remaining.
    Why?
There was never a problem before today.

Hi, [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/uninstall-firefox-from-your-computer this article] will help you to completely remove Firefox.
You should ''only'' download Firefox from [https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/ Mozilla.]
If McAfee is still not allowing it, you may need to look at the settings within McAfee.
    Hope that helps.

  • My back/forward buttons don't work - have done 'reset toolbars and controls', but they still don't work

When I downloaded the latest version I got a new screen with the orange Firefox tab at the top. That was fine, I could find what I wanted, but back/forward buttons didn't work. I checked the help section and went right through the suggestions down to 'reset toolbars and controls' - this did reset and I lost the orange box - that doesn't matter, but the back/forward buttons still don't work.

Do you have more than one tab open? If you didn't go to another site in a single tab, then yes, the buttons will be greyed out. If you went somewhere in another tab, then those sites should be accessible by right clicking either button.

Hey I managed to figure this out about an hour before I got your response, wow a two year old keyboard and it's toast.  I have a Kensington keyboard I use with my Ipad so hooked that up, tried wirelessly, the went with a usb cord.  This has been the strangest 24 hours ever on my mac.  It was entering all kinds of jibberish into the log on box and since I  could not log on I thought it was other problems.  So, the good thing is I'm back to Maverick and not using Yose. which has not been a real good experience so far.  The chat with the tech at apple didn't have a clue, put me through two restores.  Oh, well live and learn thanks for the response so quickly, you were spot on.

  • BT Yahoo Mail - cannot reply or forward messages. I have allowed pop ups and restarted but problem is still there.

When accessing BT Yahoo Mail, I cannot reply or forward emails.
Is anyone else having the same problems please ?

Also having email issues.  I used to be able to recieve and send mail through our outlook server.  Now I receive messaes, but cannot send.  It immediately reports it got an error trying to send and the message is stuck in my Outbox.  I tried dropping the user account and recreating it.  Interestingly, when I filled out all the login data, it said it could not verity my outgoing mail settings.  I did have an error.  I fixed it, and when I saved, it saved fine.  However, I still cannot send emails.  I got this phone to use for work, and this is killing me.

  • Backing up before and erase and install of 10.5, viable strategy?

I have been having some stability/start-up problems lately on my powerbook G4 (wouldn't boot after downloading and installing latest update to OS10.5, took it to apple store they ran some tests, said it didn't appear to be a hardware issue and they did an archive and install and it allowed me to boot the machine again but have experienced kernel panic when restarting since then) and was considering an erase and install of OS 10.5 (currently running 10.5 but bought the machine with 10.3, updated to 10.4 a few years back, and updated to 10.5 this past holiday season so I figure it could use a fresh start).
Up until this point I haven't had a backup strategy in place but the threat of losing by music / picture collection and other important documents has inspired me to get an external drive to back up my data. I was planning on using this drive to make a bootable copy of my current internal drive using superduper and using that with migration assistant to restore my apps, preferences, settings, and files after I have done an erase and install on the internal HD and had a few questions:
    1. Will this work?
    2. Is it a good idea given the problems i have described?
    3. Can migration assistant copy over non-OSX apps such as my iLife programs, MS Office, MATLAB?
    4. Would using Time Machine be a better option?
Any input would be greatly appreciated.
    Tim

Thanks all, sounds like this might should work, just want to make sure I don't have to manually reinstall MS office as I no longer have the disk or keys. As there some piece of info that I should write down that would allow me to reinstall MS office without purchasing a new license?
MS Office should work after an import from Migration Assistant. Of course, if it doesn't you could always:
    1) Talk with Microsoft. If you registered your purchase, they can reissue the keys, or
    2) Use OpenOffice or NeoOffice (free office suites that are quite compatible and functional), or
    3) Use iWork (the Apple office suite that is great for presentations and documents and "ok" for spreadsheets).
    Cheers,
    Rodney

  • Can't access Time Machine backups after erase and install

Had iMac checked by Apple Authorized Service Provider after experiencing multiple problems I couldn't fix. No hardware problem. He did an erase and install of 10.5.8. The machine accesses my Time Machine backup, but in Time Machine/ iMacHome/ Sharing & Permissions says, "You can only read." If I access a folder in Home, like Desktop or Documents, it says,"You have no access." Permissions are locked and grayed out.
I spent over two hours on the phone with tech support last evening, and he finally said he'd have to turn it over to Apple engineers, which would take a few days.
Migration assistant only allows "all or nothing" migration, and I need to select just certain folders; I do not want to restore anything that might be corrupted.
Is it possible I could have an undetected hardware problem? Has anyone else done an erase and install and been able to use Time Machine backups to pick and choose what they wanted to restore?

Thank you for your reply. The apple support tech should have known this, but he didn't. However, in the course of our two hour discussion he said "Maybe it's because the computer name is different." I hadn't reached the new-set-up stage where I had changed the name of the computer from Apple's default, so I did that. My short name home folder I had already named the same as before, iMacHome.
But changing the computer name didn't help. After reading your reply, I unlocked the preferences (which were locked and grayed out in TM) to my home folder in the finder and assigned read and write to all folders within for everyone. Back in TM, preferences were no longer grayed out, but changing privileges was. I added iMacHome to the names in addition to staff read & write and everyone read and write. But ImacHome(Me) allows read only, options gray, and even though everyone is read and write, it says "You can only read" and I still cannot access Desktop, Documents, etc...
Fortunately I have a SuperDuper user file backup that I am restoring from, so all is not lost. But it seems to me TM backups should be readily available, and I want to solve this problem. I may still want to go back to a previous month to recover something. But mostly I'd just like to know that TM is a functional backup. It certainly isn't in my case right now.
Don't want to migrate the entire home folder. Too risky. Risky enough to bring over Mail and selected Application Support folders and keychains.
Thanks again. I think your answer is right on, but there must still be something else. I know I have those names correct because I see the old computer name on the sparse bundle, and the old home name in the TM backups. (Haven't read the tips yet. Will do so.)

  • Erase and install - Can I select what I want to put back on from Time Machine.

I've been suffering from the super slow Yosemite problem. I have had two long sessions with the very nice people on Apple support and have we have made some progress - thank you Marie and Cheryl. They have suggested an 'erase and install' to resolve the problem.
I regularly back up my laptop to 'Time Machine' but I don't want to just reload everything as that may just bring the problem back again. So, the question is can I select which files and applications I want to recover from Time Machine?

    Here's what you should do:
Install or Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion from Scratch
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Erase the hard drive:
      1. Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
      2. After DU loads select your startup volume (usually Macintosh HD) from the
left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
      3. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Optionally, click on
the Security button and set the Zero Data option to one-pass. Click on
the Erase button and wait until the process has completed.
      4. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion and click on the Install button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible
because it is three times faster than wireless.
Once you know it's running properly you can begin re-installing your third-party software from the original media. Finally, restore your data from your Time Machine backup. This assures that all but your data files are freshly installed.

  • Backing up user information (passkeys etc...) for erase and install.

I know this a question that is probably better suited for the mac os x section, but I like the advice everyone gives in this forum and you are all fellow macbook users. Okay to my question the 60gig is just a little too small for my needs and there is a lot of pre-bundled progs on the macbook i dont use. I want to do an erase and install but I would like to be able to back up my user information (bookmarks, passkeys etc.).
Help will be greatly appreciated thanks,
    EAH22

Assuming you have enough space on the drive (6-8 GBs free) and assuming the hard drive has been repaired and is verified OK, you can do an Archive and Install and select the option to preserve the user files and network settings. This way you do not have to erase the disk and all your user files will be moved to the new system installation.
Or you can simply delete the pre-bundled applications you don't want. This is a lot less extreme than erasing the hard drive and starting from scratch.

  • Is "erase and install" better than "archive and install"

I have heard its best for permormance purposes to do an erase and install, but is that really true? it seems like much less of a hassle to just do the archive and install. any thoughts?

    Jeff,
To me, there is not much difference in doing an Erase and Install as opposed to an Archive and Install but NOT preserving user settings...
An erase and install might be a little better but not much plus you would need to reinstall everything.
With an Archive and Install and NOT preserving user settings, you still have a brand new system with nothing from the old system installed... However, you do have a folder called "Previous Systems" which has all your stuff in it... If you want some stuff out of that folder, you can get it.. Otherwise, if you throw that folder out, it will be just about as good as an Erase and Install....
Now, an Archive and Install and preserving user settings is a little different because it does bring things over from the old system....
