I have few j2ee installation & basic problem :(

1. I just installed J2ee, so i reconfigured path & classpath for it, and remove the original j2sdk path/classpath, is it the correct thing to do? (classpath & path point to sun\appserver\jdk\lib & bin instead of j2sdk1.5x\lib & bin). However, after I did this, java is recognized, but javac is NOT recognized?
2. If I use Tomcat, do I keep Sun Application Server PE9 running or stop? Or both of them should be running?
Can some1 give me some help please.
Thanks

You can run one or the other or both (but you will need to use different ports if running them both at the same time (and I think they both use 8080 by default). It's up to you if you want to run them both to test against different containers, but they aren't both required.

2 days ago my FF3.6.3 started becoming extremely slow/delayed on EVERYTHING/ALL ACTIONS (I have been using 3.6.3 for a few months with NO problems, until 2 days ago). Scrolling going in delayed/slow/jerky 'waves' motion (not smooth & fast), Right-click box very delayed/hangs in coming up, Text typing lagging/intermittent, activity extremely slow/delayed when pointing mouse over anything, changing from tab to tap extremely slow. Bascially EVERYTHING has become sooo slow, delayed, lagging etc. I have tried ALL possible checks (extensions, add-ons, plug-ins, download history, cache, cookies) & viewed nearly ALL the FF help sites. Is this a sudden/recent bug?? It doesnt only happen with Facebook, but EVERY window I open!!

I've personally not seen this behaviour since Firefox version 2. It however re-appeared for me in 3.6.6 and 3.6.7 (current) and it's bloody awful. Makes everything I do take 50% longer ..... great for efficiency in the modern world.
This 3.6 branch is so riddle with flaws which seem never to be fixed. Each fix / update brings with it more problems ... worst of all I see version 4 is already in development but they cannot even get 3.6 right ??? WTF ????
Mozilla must stop chasing version numbers as has become the trend in the software world. Fix an existing version to perfection then start working on a new branch of the product.

  • New computer, switching XP to Vista, have questions ref. installation

I had been managing my Gen5 30GB iPod w/Video on a computer with OS XP. Said computer is dead and new computer has OS Vista.
I need to install iPod and iTunes on new computer; I have the original installation disk. Obviously, I don't want to lose the tunes I have on the iPod and, for the time being, I want to manage my tunes manually, rather than have iTunes synch them automatically.
I am afraid to install the iPod w/iTunes anew with the disk, fearing that it will require me to have iPod connected to computer and that I will lose my tunes b/c iTunes default might be to "synch". Maybe that's not so.
In any case, my thought is: to download the most recent iTunes from the Apple website. If possible, to then uncheck "synch" and/or check "enable iPod use as disk" (or whatever). i.e. cancel the "synch" function.
Then...install iPod from the installation CD-ROM. Is this a good approach? Or not? If so, with iTunes already installed, would installation CD "realize" this and not install iTunes from the CD? or would there be conflict?
I don't know all the basics so I don't know whether I'm barking up the wrong tree or what.
All comments and suggestions will most welcome! Thanks in advance.
(BTW....I already have the Windows Update for Vista KB936824.)

Download and install the latest version of iTunes, then connect your iPod to your new computer. If it is set to update automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. When your iPod appears in the iTunes source list change the update setting to manual, that will let you use our iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default: Managing content manually on iPod
You can also use a keyboard command to prevent your iPod auto-syncing with iTunes. While connecting the iPod to the computer on Windows with iTunes 7.3 or later installed hold down the Shift + Ctrl keys together. This will stop the iPod from auto-syncing with iTunes and the iPod will appear in the source list. Wait until you are sure the iPod has mounted, and that it will not auto sync and then you can let the keys go. This may take between 20 to 30 seconds depending on your computer: iTunes - Keyboard Shortcuts for Windows
Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod.
The transfer of content sources such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. You can read reviews and comparisons of some of them here:

    iPodRip Mac & Windows
    YamiPod Mac and Windows
    Music Rescue Mac & Windows
    iPodCopy Mac and Windows
iRepo Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iPod Access Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
If you have any iTunes Music Store purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. You'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod or iPhone to a computer
There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available on page 2 at this link: Copying Content from your iPod to your Computer - The Definitive Guide
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.

  • BT Toolbar installer - ongoing problem - STILL ONG...

I have not had a reply to my last post in the thread:
    http://community.bt.com/t5/BB-in-Home/BT-Toolbar-installer-ongoing-problem/td-p/39872
As the problem has returned with the newest version of the toolbar, I thought I would start a new thread using my last post to the above thread .
In fairness I thought the problem had been sorted as a patch was issued for V:8.1.0.51, Build: 2009.9.20.2, so maybe the thread was no longer watched.
To my amazement, this patch has not been incorporated in the latest version. Quite frankly I'm gobsmacked at the incompetence. Anyway, here it is:
Have just installed the latest version of the BT Toolbar:
    V:8.3.3.42
    Build: 2010.11.15.1
Although I had ticked "Automatically download and install toolbar updates" in my old version, I only found out about the new version by reading a post in "Answers". The links below refer to older "7" versions but following the links I came accross "download latest version" and discovered V:8.3.3.42. So it appears that the auto-update facility doesn't work either!
    http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/InternetExplorer/thread/dd948e16-b74d-4e9c-a0fc-268...
    http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/toolbar/basics/toolbarms-01.html
Guess what? After a shut down and reboot, I had to sign in with my Windows Live ID - AGAIN!
It would appear that the patch released to cure this problem in the old version has not been incorporated in the new version.
Stroll on. I find it hard to believe that the newest version has been released with the same error!!!!!!
I have had to hack the registry to correct this - AGAIN
Below is the post that explained the original problem. Although the numbers of the HKEY_USERS are slightly different now (HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-73586283-879983540-1606980848-1011), the problem remains the same. The toolbar installer changes AppData to =%AppData% instead of =%USERPROFILE%\Application Data.
    And I quote:
"When Yahoo toolbar gets installed it sets the following registry value:
    [HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-796845957-926492609-725345543-1003\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Exp lorer\User Shell Folders]
    AppData = %AppData%
The problem here is AppData should actually be the following
    AppData = %USERPROFILE%\Application Data
So when MSN or other apps that use that registry key go to save their data it gets lost.
So the solution is simple, run regedit and go to
    [HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-796845957-926492609-725345543-1003\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Exp lorer\User Shell Folders]
and set the value AppData to a data value of %USERPROFILE%\Application Data"

  • Need to reformat my HD and have few q's

    Hi !
I have a mid 2010 MacBook Pro. 500 gb ..recently updated to Mavericks.
In the past I had a problem with what I THINK were kernel panics (the white screen of death, etc)...came on here and found my way out of that and was able to get up and running with no future noticeable problems.
Lately, I've noticed the computer is running more and more sluggish.  Loading my photos in iPhoto takes quite a bit of time, and I dread opening iMovie.  Sometimes, other things lag behind as well, but those are the "heaviest" things I do so I thought I would mention them.
I decided to run the Disk Utility and tried to Verify permissions.    I got a message "Disk Utility stopped verifying "Macintosh HD.  The disk needs to be repaired using Recovery HD.....etc."
I attempted to follow the instructions to Repair as suggested...and got the following message:
"Disk Utility stopped repairing Macintosh HD.  DU can't repair the disk. Back up as many files as possible, reformat the dis and restore your backed-up files".
(interestingly, since I did that, I have been unable to print to my printer...says something about permissions - but I'm terrified to even TRY to fix it)
SOOOOO....now I'm nervous.  I have about 15,000 photos of my kiddies and video clips....these are the 2 things I don't want to lose.  Of course, I want to save most of what I have, but I am prioritizing.
I have been using Time Machine on my Time Capsule regularly.
I also have an external 500 GB hard drive...so I formatted it (found directions here) and so far I have gone to my "home" folder and dragged "iphoto library" icon to the disk.  and also dragged the "itunes library" to it as well.  Next I'm trying to figure out what I need to do to drag over to ensure my events/projects are not lost....Any help there ?
NOW my big question:  Assuming I can figure out the reformatting and get that done - HOW do I know if I should try to Restore from a previous TM backup or do a clean install and just drag over my important files.  I have heard that if the problem has been copied to my TM I will have the same problems.   Any way to know that ?  Or suggestions?
Your help is SO greatly appreciated....I've been delaying this for a few days but it obviously must be done and I don't want to wait just in case it's my HD.

    chrstene96 wrote:
Thanks for the quick response.  I've never made a clone copy before, but I imagine I can read up and figure it out (or come back for help)....
You'll need to buy the software, but IMO, it's worth having both a TM Backup and a Clone.
Is my EHD big enough to make a clone on it?
If the EHD is larger than the space used on your Mac, yes.
secondly, if I make the clone and use it to transfer the data, is that considered a "clean" install, VS doing it from the time machine?  Or will it still be vulnerable to the same problems i'm having now?
It will be the same if you transfer data (during Install OS X Mavericks from Recovery) from the clone or from Time Machine.  You don't need to clone, but since you are manually dragging files to your EHD, it's worth the cost to have Carbon Copy Cloner or Super Duper do the backup of everything to the EHD.
Clean Install will reinstall fresh from Apple's server OS X Mavericks.  When you transfer data (either from TC or Clone), only your data and settings are transferred (so if you have a damaged personal file, it will still be damaged after the clean install)

  • A sample project with basic problems to solve. Lets make it as a tutorial!

The project is attached it's supposed to end up being a simple file manager, so you can browse the files and folders using the list component.
I've done some part which is the attached one. Now I meet some problems since it's my first project and I need some help so I can solve them. I will try to make this project available to everyone because I think in it's end it will really cover the basics you need to know to get started making more complex stuff.
So I zipped the php folder with just 1 file that currently has script for browsing the current directory. At this stage of the development I would only like to be able to make the files and folders that the php returns to be displayed correctly in the list, the files no icon and the folders with the folder.png icon. To have a nice padding so they look good in the list and have a nice hover.
    Problems:
    1) warning: unable to bind to property 'name' on class 'Array' (class is not an IEventDispatcher)
Note: that's the first problem you will see when you setup the project, change the php server urls and run it.
http://flexponential.com/2009/11/11/binding-warnings-when-using-object-in-a-list -dataprovider/ - this post has some info on the problem but the example is with static mxml data and I am not sure how to fix this when the data comes from the php.
    2) what's the proper way to make some customizations on the data received, so to speak I need to check if the type of the file is "dir", that would mean it's a folder and should display the folder icon and if it's not not to display any image infront of the file. I am really not sure how to do that so any solutions are welcome.
    3) What's the most convinient way to adjust the padding between each line in the list and padding for the icon and label inside the line.
I think solving these 3 problems will be a huge step forward to finish and have a complete structure which could help more people understand how things work.
Everyones help will be greatly appreciated

    Anamorphicizer didn't work.
I can use Quicktime Pro cause I currently have Quicktime X on my computer (snow leopard) which doesn't have a Pro upgrade.
Any myDVDedit is really confusing to use do I have to export the DVD into a VIDEO_TS file to fix it? I'm still puzzled

  • Why do we run into stupid basic problems with firefox?

I have jre1.6_u31 installed on a Windows 7 and the brilliant
firefox keep tell me that I've to install the jre_1.6_u29 missing plugin when I try to run an applet...a simple applet!! The plugin doesn't appear on add-ons manager then i use "check your plugins" and the stupid response is: "For your safety, Firefox has disabled your outdated version of Java. Please upgrade to the latest version."
Running an applet is basic! Why are u making new versions when older ones are better? I' m sick of running into this stupid problems with firefox! Everything works on ie, chrome and safari but not on Firefox!
I' m sick of trying to solve firefox basic problems!
We have a site that has one thousand ore more visits per day...and we only have troubles with firefox! What do I tell the costumers? I' m not going to give them solutions difficult and confusing as usually your solutions are! They are common people not developers as me...they just want the things to work! I gave up and the solution that I give to them now is to stop using firefox and uninstall it. And people ask I chrome is becoming the second most used browser...here is your answer...
I' m a developer and I've to develop I don't have the time patiente to trying solving basic firefox problems. If you don't know how to solve the problems then stop developing this and save us the headaches.

Have you updated Java lately? You say you have jre1.6_u31 installed, but "Java(TM) Platform SE 6 U31" is not showing in the Plugins submitted with your question (click "More system details" to the right of your original question post). To enable, Add-ons > Plugins, and enable the item.
If your OS is 64-bit and you have 32-bit browsers (Firefox) and 64-bit browsers installed, then you need to install both the 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Java.

You cannot download the upgrade to Snow Leopard.
Upgrade Paths to Snow Leopard, Lion, and/or Mountain Lion
You can upgrade to Mountain Lion from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mountain Lion can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for $19.99. To access the App Store you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.6 or later installed.
    Upgrading to Snow Leopard
You must purchase Snow Leopard through the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard - Apple Store (U.S.). The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will be sent physical media by mail after placing your order.
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store. Access to the App Store enables you to download Mountain Lion if your computer meets the requirements.
         Snow Leopard General Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel processor
           2. 1GB of memory
           3. 5GB of available disk space
           4. DVD drive for installation
           5. Some features require a compatible Internet service provider;
               fees may apply.
           6. Some features require Apple’s MobileMe service; fees and
               terms apply.
    Upgrading to Lion
If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mountain Lion, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
You can purchase Lion by contacting Customer Service: Contacting Apple for support and service - this includes international calling numbers. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
         Lion System Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,
               or Xeon processor
           2. 2GB of memory
           3. OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
           4. 7GB of available space
           5. Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.
    Upgrading to Mountain Lion
To upgrade to Mountain Lion you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Purchase and download Mountain Lion from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mountain Lion is $19.99 plus tax. The file is quite large, over 4 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
OS X Mountain Lion - System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mountain Lion
             1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer)
             2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer)
             3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer)
             4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer)
             5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer)
             6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer)
             7. Xserve (Early 2009)
         Are my applications compatible?
See App Compatibility Table - RoaringApps.
Am I eligible for the free upgrade?
See Apple - Free OS X Mountain Lion upgrade Program.
