In QT, if you open the Inspector, what is the format? Post a screen shot of the info.
Did you try one of the Video Share presets?
If you've got high quality material to work with, uploading to YT or another video service should produce good results. They will re-encode whatever you give them.  So as s long as you give them a sufficiently high quality file to start – and assuming it's h.264 – you should be good.

    Hi Cereskit
Thanks again for the message. I've done the updates and have the App Store on my desktop. I went into it and searched for imovie but couldn't find the basic imovie, which I presume is what I'd need for editing?, rather than imovie 11 for £10.49, which is for making trailers, it seems. Also, were you saying that imovie would be free?

  • I have Final cut Pro HD sequence and I need to burn this on a DVD

I have Final cut Pro HD sequence and I need to burn this on a DVD, my sequence lasts 1 hr and 33 minutes. What are my options? Is it better to export as a Quick Time movie or using the compressor? I'm new to the compressor just learning, please help.

Select your sequence in the browser window, go to the File menu and choose Export Using Compressor.
When compressor opens, choose the DVD best quality settings, 120 minutes.
For audio and video both, choose both the m2v video and the AC3 audio. (Dolby Professional)
Choose a destination for your files, and hit submit.
When it's finished, import these files into your DVD SP project, and make your DVD.
Be sure to choose the 16:9 anamorphic settings.

  • Does CC 2014 eliminate the need to have Final Cut Pro and/or Compressor installed to access Apple ProRes 422?

    Hello:
Just today, I was working on a Mac system that does not have any of the applications that I would have expected to need to have installed in order to do more than just decompress movie files compressed with Apple ProRes 422.
I was expecting to have to install Final Cut Studio 3, Final Cut Pro X, Compressor 4, and/or QuickTime 7 with the QuickTime Pro key; however, none of those applications are installed and I am able to create custom QuickTime Apple Pro Res422 Sequences in Premiere Pro as well as export using Apple ProRes 422.  After Effects and Adobe Media Encoder also show all the Apple ProRes variations.
Does CC 2014 eliminate the need to have Final Cut Pro and/or Compressor installed to access Apple ProRes 422?  Is it something happening on the OS or QuickTime level that would affect CC or CS6 in the same way?
I've done a web search, but haven't really come up with anything other than older articles about needing to have FCP installed (and I typically work on systems with Final Cut Studio 3 installed as well as CS6, CC, or CC 2014).  If more detailed information is available, it would be great to be able to read up on it.
The system is a 21.5-inch iMac running Mac OS X 10.8.5, QuickTime Player 10.2, and Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2014 (8.0.0 - I know an update is available for PrPro, but it's not my system to make that change).
    Thanks in advance,
    Warren Heaton

    Hi Emil:
I use ProRes all the time as well, but I have Final Cut Studio on my workstations.
I had not come across MindPower009's YouTube video.  That explains how ProRes could be showing up without FCP or Compressor.
So, the answer to my question would be, "No, CC 2014 does not eliminate the need to have Final Cut Pro and/or Compressor installed to access Apple ProRes 422; however, if you are willing to be in violation Apple's terms of use, you can install the ProRes codecs anyway."
Even though MindPower009's YouTube video comments claim "FREE and LEGAL", it's clear from both the Apple download page and the ProRes codecs installer that Apple expects you to own at least one of their applications.
    Thanks again for the link!

  • Can i use pro res files in iMovie even though i don't have Final Cut Pro?

    Hello,
I'm expecting some film footage to be delivered to me thats being delivered in a Pro Res format. Since my request to the company I've realised that it seems that I might not be able to import the Pro Res files into iMovie on my iMac if I don't have Final Cut Pro (FCP) installed. Is this correct? If so, is there a simple way I can import the format without having to go to the expense of buying FCP?
    Thanks
    Steven

    Hey Henmans,
Thanks for the question. Apple ProRes is a format developed for high-quality, high-performance editing in Final Cut Pro X. To gain access to this codec, you’ll want to purchase Final Cut Pro X or a licensed third-party product:
Apple ProRes Authorized Products - Apple Support
    http://support.apple.com/HT200321
Additionally, you may want to learn about unauthorized codec implementations:
In some instances, unauthorized codec implementations have been used in third-party software and hardware products. Using any unauthorized implementation (such as the FFmpeg and derivative implementations) may lead to decoding errors, performance degradation, incompatibility, and instability. If you're using or considering the purchase of a product that encodes or decodes ProRes but is not on the list below, please contact us at [email protected]

  • After a failed install my mac thinks I have final cut pro installed.

I tried installing Final Cut Studio and halfway through it I accidentally hit the cancel install button when it asked me for a disk to continue the install. No bid deal, I'll just run the install again, right? Wrong, the second time around it only gives me the option to "Upgrade" Final Cut Pro. So my comp thinks I have Final Cut Pro installed already. I used Appdelete to toss all of the half installed software, but apparently there must be something on my comp still because the installer only offers the upgrade. What do I do? Thanks everyone.

    Look in Hard Drive/Library/Receipts.
Remove all .pkg files that refer to FCP.
Those files are the reason your computer thinks FCP is installed.

No, FCP X will only work with Compressor 4.

I am signed in with the account that I purchased Final cut Pro X
I don't have another account I'm not sure what's going on

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
Open the Mac App Store and go to Purchases. Do you see Final Cut Pro X listed?
If so, open a Finder window, choose Applications in the sidebar and delete Final Cut Pro X. Then, go to the Mac App Store and download Final Cut Pro X for free.
If you don't see it in Purchases, see if it's hidden, and if so, unhide it > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4928 If it doesn't work, contact with the Mac App Store support > http://www.apple.com/support/mac/app-store/contact

If you purchase Final Cut Pro X at the Mac App Store, you can install it in all your Macs free of charge as many times as you want. The same applies for all the applications you purchase at the Mac App Store

Everytime I open up Final Cut Pro I have to enter my name and my serial. It's annoying to have to do every try. Does anyone know what's wrong or what I can do?

  • I have final cut pro x, how can i copy my project to dvd

i have final cut pro x on my i mac, i creat a video project and would like to copy to dvd. how can i do that. thanks haidar

DVD should show as an option (destination) in the menu associated with Share.  To actually go to a DVD, there has to be a DVD burner connected to the Mac.

I have Final Cut Pro X (10.0.9) and would like to change my project settings but I am having trouble finding the 'Modify Settings button.'  Where exactly is it located?  Here is the link which gives the instructions but doesn't seem to say where the 'Modify Settings Button' is located: http://support.apple.com/kb/PH12526?viewlocale=en_US

You have to choose – one settigf or another.
The thing is.your HD clips will look better in an SD project than your SD clips will in an HD project.
WIthout knowing much more about your project and the kind of content, it's really hard to be specific. But generally I'd let my project settings be guided by what fraction of my timeline will be made up of HD clips and how much SD clips. If it's 75% HD, I'd probably do an HD project…and so on,
    Good luck.

  • How can I check to see if my version of QuickTime Pro 7.6.6 already has ProApps QuickTime Codecs installed? I also have Final Cut Pro 6. I'm asking because my computer can't seem to play ProRes 422 codec video without stuttering or skipping?

I have a fairly capable MacBook Pro (2.93 GHzIntel Core 2 Duo processor, 4GB 1067 MHz DDR3 memory and a 1TB HD -5400 rpm, so I am hoping it's not that my computer that can't support it and it's something more simple like not have ProApps QuickTime codecs installed. Thanks in advance!

If you can view a ProRes 4-2-2 video at all, then you either have the independent ProRes422 Playback component installed or the FCP "Pro" video components installed.

Check your "~/Library/QuickTime" folder for your various "Pro" components. If in doubt that you have them all, re-run the FCP installer and it should add any missing components, apps, or utilities.

There is no upgrade. It's a separate application.
