I have had Norton for years but should I switch to Mackeeper and is it better?
My anti virus renewal is due soon and am wondering if I should stay with the basic Norton which I have for years or switch to Mackeeper? Which one is better and will speed up my desktop computer as it tends to be slow and the colored cursor is annoying.
Norton Antivirus has a very long and illustrious reputation for mangling Mac OS X systems, sometimes to the point where a complete reinstall is necessary. Among other things, it installs kernel extensions which are known to cause kernel panics and system freezes; it contains known and documented bugs which can silently corrupt Adobe Photoshop and Adobe InDesign files, destroy a user's ability to authenticate as an administrator, and (on PPC systems) can cause Classic to stop functioning; and Symantec has on at least two occasions now released flawed .dat file updates which erroneously report certain critical Mac OS X files as "viruses." (Deleting these "viruses" causes damage to the system that in some cases renders it unbootable.)

When I restart my iPad the connect to iTunes comes up and stays on until it shuts down again, I have read a report from Apple support suggesting I reinstall iTunes so I might try that again and also your suggestion which i shall also try, but thanks again - rg1547

I can no longer open any attachments that are sent to me. I click on and get cannot preview (but have had this for ages). I am clicking on download and nothing happens. It does not download. I clicked to install a new version after updating and clicking repair. But still the attachments won't open including invoices I have received today. It is all attachments not just pdfs.

i have had itunes for years when i try to open it, it says i have missing files so i repaired it, then it said the same thing. so i went to download it again to fix the problem and it wants me to pay for a membership. is itunes no longer free?
iTunes is free... there is no membership fee.
Try providing some specifics about what is going on and others might be able to provide a resolution. -

I am trying to create an icloud account and have used itunes for years . Therefore have been using my apple id to sign in. Unfortunatly it keeps coming back saying this is my apple id but not my icloud id is this different?
Ive looked at help and it states its the same i have changed my passord several times as i thought it was this. Can anyone please help.??I've tried both. First, I tried on my pc, where iTunes had installed iCloud when it last updated. I have iTunes installed on this computer (and on my iPad and iPhone), but that wasn't the issue.
So I went online, thinking I needed a separate iCloud Apple ID, but it prompted me for my current Apple ID and gave me the message about my ID being "valid" but not an iCloud account," which, lol, was what it had asked me to do in order to create one. I have had iphone 5 and have never been happy and i think apple is not leading the technology and future of market anymore as they are lowering quality of their products(even hardware). I had to change first iphone 5 i had because of wireless issues and then i had battery problem and had to charge 3 times a day and finally after 2 years i bought they decided that its faulty and they decide to change it. Luckily enough i read it on an online tech magazine and after googling i see that they have had replacement for power button as well which i am eligible for as well!! i go to genius bar and they replace battery but they dont replace power button cause they examine it and passes till the audio dock test! It connects to charder dock or cable but it doest to audio test dock and he says one off the pins inside is not right but it charges perfectly with every cable in the store!! And i tell him that they have to change power button not the charging pin cause it doesnt make sense!! Its a faulty product and maybe if they emailed and said it nearly a year ago my pin was right then!! so i think they found a silly reason not to change it and so i am struggling with that phone and brand that i hate(once i used to love)!

Have you tried connecting it to a computer with iTunes to initiate the cellular activation? i have tried to reinstall itunes because it is saying i cant use my itunes due to an error 7, itunes helper not installed correctly, please reinstall, i have tried several times but still not allowing me to use, ive never had this problem before in all the years i have used itunes, i have gone through all the troubleshooting but still no access, can you help

That suggests that another application has stashed old QuickTime componentry in your system files.
So just in case we'll go looking for older QuickTime componentry in the most common locations for it to be stashed.
First we'll need to change some view settings.
In your Start menu, open Computer.
In your Organise menu, select Folder Options.
In the View tab, make sure that "Show hidden files and folders" is selected, and Hide extensions for known file types is unchecked.
Click OK.
Now in Computer, open your C:\ drive (or whichever drive you have your operating system installed on).
Open the "Windows" folder.
If you have a 32-bit version of Windows, open the "System32" folder.
If you have a 64-bit version of Windows, open the "SysWOW64" folder.
What files and folders can you see in there with QuickTime in the title? (In a standard installation of Quicktime you should be seeing precisely two files... QuickTime.qts and QuickTimeVR.qtx ... and no QuickTime folders whatsoever.) -

Do you use Firefox? I've read that it has problems downloading iTunes. Another browser like Google Chrome might work better.

I've been mistakingly hitting delete to delete photos after importing them into iphoto. I thought they were all being deleted off of my computer, but not so. They're not in either the system or iphoto trash. I was able to find all "original" and "duplicate" photos in finder folders. Yes I could delete each photo one by one again, but we're talking sifting through 40GB of photos.

Don't change anything in the iPhoto Library Folder via the Finder or any other application. iPhoto depends on the structure as well as the contents of this folder. Moving things, renaming things, deleting them or otherwise making changes will prevent iPhoto from working and could even cause you to damage or lose your photos.
Are you running a Managed or a Referenced Library?
A Managed Library, is the default setting, and iPhoto copies files into the iPhoto Library when Importing. The files are then stored in the Library package
A Referenced Library is when iPhoto is NOT copying the files into the iPhoto Library when importing because you made a change at iPhoto -> Preferences -> Advanced. (You unchecked the option to copy files into the Library on import) The files are then stored where ever you put them and not in the Library package. In this scenario you are responsible for the File Management. -
I did a system retsore to restore to a date 2 weeks ago. I have had firefox for 2 years on this computer. Since I did the restore firefox will nolonger open. I know i can download it again - but will have lost all my bookmarks etc. is there a way to get it all back?
Ubuntu/9.04 (jaunty) is an old version of Linux from 2009. You're gonna need to upgrade to a newer operating system to use a more recent version of Firefox.
My advice is to consult with the Ubuntu support forums to find out if your PC can support the latest version of Ubuntu, or if you should switch to a different "flavor" of Linux.

Recently my iPod touch 4th gen. was stolen. I have had it for two years, so I don't have a warranty on it anymore. I reported it to the police, but what will apple do? This one kid reported to them that his was stolen and they gave him a new one. Will they do the same for me? Is there any other way I can get all my pictures from my iPod without iCloud set up? Would Apple be able to lock up my iPod so they cant use it at all? Please help me, thanks (:
