I have just got a new Macbook Pro and am trying to sync with my iPhone. Everything is working except I can't get my Audible Downloads it is saying they are not authorised to play on this computer. Any suggestions?
I have just got a new mac book pro. When I synced my iphone 4s with it my audible book files were deleted from my phone though they are on the computer still. A pop up said my iphone was not authorised to play on this computer. Everything else is there just not my audio books from Audible. I'm half way through a book, what do I do?
The iphone is not a backup device.
You need to copy everything from your old computer, or your backup copy of your old computer to your new one.

with my purchase of the new macbook pro i have been unable to upload any music from my iphone or any other details except from my pictures. I tried to set up the icloud but i am having difficulties doing so as all my music on my phone is under an old shared account and on my laptop i have a new account specifically for me which has also been newly uploaded onto my phone with the £70 voucher.

I have multiple Apple IDs. Is there a way for me to merge them into a single Apple ID?
Apple IDs cannot be merged. You should use your preferred Apple ID from now on, but you can still access your purchased items such as music, movies, or software using your other Apple IDs. -
Therefore, I seem to be going around in circles with it and I'm stuck with half albums and they won't play on my iPod. I don't know what to do about this. Maybe it's something really obvious that I'm missing??
Delete the tracks from the iTunes library, allowing iTunes to move the track files to the Trash. Then download the tracks again from the iTunes Store via this procedure:

That fixes the problem for many people. If problems with the tracks persist, go here:
iTunes Support
and follow the instructions to report the issue to the iTunes Store.

From your OLD computer...
Copy your ENTIRE iTunes FOLDER to an External Drive... and then from the External Drive to your New Computer..
Full Details Here > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1751
An Added Bonus is that you will have a Backup of iTunes.
Also... Have a look at these 2 Videos...

I just got a new MacBook Pro, and I tried to bring across my files from my last mac using time machine. After it was done copying I can't find my files anywhere but the space (about 130gb) has been used on my hard drive. Does anyone know how I can get to them? I did change my user name from 'user' while it was copying, could this have something to do with it?
You don't want to do that by copying.
Your best bet, by far, is to use Setup Assistant. If your Mac is running Snow Leopard, see Using Setup Assistant on Snow Leopard or Leopard.
If it came with Lion, it's a bit different: Using Setup Assistant on Lion -
I just got a new macbook pro and transferred everything from my old macbook. My photos show up as thumbnails in iphoto, but if I click on them, a "?" pops up for all of them!
Copy the Library over manually.
To move an iPhoto Library to a new machine:
Link the two Macs together: there are several ways to do this: Wireless Network,Firewire Target Disk Mode, Ethernet, or even just copy the Library to an external HD and then on to the new machine...
But however you do choose to link the two machines...
Simply copy the iPhoto Library from the Pictures Folder on the old Machine to the Pictures Folder on the new Machine.
Then launch iPhoto. That's it.
This moves photos, events, albums, books, keywords, slideshows and everything else. -
Wonder if anyone can help? Have just bought a new Macbook pro and installed FCP7. I thought that I would get quicktime pro as standard but stuck with QTX. Downloaded QT7 but it won't let me install it. Says I can't do install as I already have QTX. Does FCP not come with QTpro or am I jsut being stupid. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks. B
Hi there,
Are you running Lion or Snow Leopard? either way this may help by the looks of it.

Daughter's homework assignment needs adobe flash plug in. Just got my new MacBook Pro and scare to download program if it compromises the security of laptop. What do I do in this situation?
OS X will automatically block versions of Flash that are known to be unsafe. As long as Flash is kept up to date, it's reasonably safe. You can minimize your exposure to Flash content by installing the "ClickToFlash" or "ClickToPlugin" Safari extension. Flash elements will then load only when clicked.

I have a new MacBook pro that will not turn on as the battery is no longer green. It turns orange why is that ? I have it plugged into an outlet with the charger as always and it was always green before?
The adapter light will always turn orange when your machine is charging. It will go back to green when the battery is fully charged.
Nothing to worry about.

When switching to my new MacBook Pro, it will not let me display the titles of the icons as it has in my other Macbooks. In my new Macbook it will either:
a) cut off the title and inssert three dots
For example,
"Graduate School Info" will become "Gradua..nfo"
OR
b) it will cut off the word and put it underneath
For example,
"Publications" will become
"Publicatio
ns"
I am not sure how to change the settings so that it can allow more room to display the titles of the icons/folders the way I would like them to be displayed.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

KMThe best you can do is highlite a file on your Desktop. Finder>View>show view options>
and increase your Grid Size to MAX. -
For some strange reason my contacts are not populating on my macbook from my iPhone. I have iCloud turned on on both devices and I have selected the contacts folder to be in the cloud but my macbook isn't populating the data.
To copy your exchange account contacts to iCloud, do the following:
Go to Settings>iCloud, turn Contacts to Off, choose Delete from My iDevice when prompted (any iCloud contacts will still be in iCloud).
Download the app My Contacts Backup. (If you have more than 500 contacts to transfer from our exchange account you will need the “Pro” version. If you aren't sure, start with the free version. When you use it, it will tell you if you need the paid version.) Use the app to back up the remaining contacts on your phone (from your exchange account) as a vCard attachment to an email that and send the email to yourself. Confirm that you have received the email.
Go to Settings>iCloud and turn Contacts back to On.
Go to Settings>Mail,Contacts,Calendars>Default Account (in the Contacts section) and set this to iCloud.
Go to Settings>Mail,Contacts,Calendars…tap your exchange account and turn off contacts syncing.*
Open the My Contacts Backup email and tap the attachment to import the exchange contacts back to your device, and to iCloud. Go to icloud.com to confirm that the contacts are there. If you ever want to "refresh" this with your current exchange contacts, you can reply to this conversation in the future and I can give you the steps to do so.
* You could leave it turned on if you want to reference it occasionally. If you do, just open contacts and tap Groups, then tap the exchange account so it is unchecked and tap Done. That will hide them from view so you don't see duplicates. -
I just got a new macbook pro and I had a question about sleep vs off.
When do you turn it off? i hear from alot of people that they never turn it off, rather they keep it on sleep mode, even overnight. What os the best for your macbook?
One of the reasons that people just sleep it is that OS X is based on the Unix operating system, which was designed for servers, which means the OS was designed to be run 24/7. It has no problem with not being shut down in weeks.
And in fact that's how I run my Macs. They stay up for weeks, sleeping at night, often they are only restarted if a software update requires it.
Avoiding a full shutdown has many practical benefits too. You can leave many apps and documents open when you sleep it, and when you wake it, all your work and logins are already open and waiting for you.
In other words, taking advantage of sleep means you have an "instant-on" computer. You don't need to care how long it takes a computer to boot up, if you hardly ever boot up, and if your own wake-to-work time is basically one or two seconds with no need to re-open anything.
I and many other Mac users have successfully used sleep-only habits during extended travel. At least a couple times I have left on a trip, carried my MacBook Pro on a plane, across continents and oceans, and trains and buses and walking, and all the way back home, in a single OS X uptime session, never restarting or shutting it down at all. (Although sleeping it during transport, of course.)
