I have just reinstalled Itunes but  i get an error message 'cant read itunes library .jtl  Was created by newer version of Itunes'
How do I fix?

Unless you deliberately downgraded iTunes at the same time this may be a sign of a corrupt library. See Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash.

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.

  • How received the following error message:  iTunes was not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes. Error 7 (Windows error 998).  I did what was requested and reinstalled iTunes, but still get this error message.  Help!

My Toshiba laptop just recently started showing the the following error message when I try to open iTunes: " iTunes was not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes. Error 7 (Windows error 998)".  I did what was requested and reinstalled iTunes, but still get this error message.  Help!

b noir I never got any message about an entry point
Many thanks. If we're looking at a "naked" Error 7, I'd start with box two in the following user tip:

  • Upgraded to 11.3.1 now can't open library. Won't read. I have an older iMac (2008). Message I get is: cannot be read because was created by newer version of iTunes. Would you like to download iTunes now?' ... so I do and it fixes nothing. OS 10.6.8

Upgraded to 11.3.1 now can't open library. Won't read. I have an older iMac (2008). Message I get is: cannot be read because was created by newer version of iTunes. Would you like to download iTunes now?' ... so I do and it fixes nothing. Same message again. OS is 10.6.8.

Thanks again. The option thing got me further than I've gotten thus far but when I went to choose a library I got that same message.
I do have options. I have 2 iMacs. I can still access my music through 'sharing' and download it onto my newer iMac. Trouble is it doesn't have a CD port and I like to burn. From what I've read about their new Mac portable CD/DVD drive, it's shaky at best. Incidentally, do you know of any drives that work well with Macs and cost less than $89.00?
I've figured out I can download a previous library from my old Mac then upload it from the new one which should put me back in business, but what do I do with the corrupt one that's there now, just trash it? Also, when I do the option key my other choice is Create A New Library. Should I do that and put the good previous library into it?
Thanks a million, I really appreciate your time. I'm an old fogey and computers often mystify me, especially when they lock me out of things for no apparent reason.

  • I have just just installed a new version of itunes. When i tried to run the new version it came up with the message "The file ituneslibrary.itl cannot be read because it was created by newer version of itunes. Can anybody advise?

I have just just installed a new version of itunes. When i tried to run the new version it came up with the message "The file ituneslibrary.itl cannot be read because it was created by newer version of itunes.
I installed the new version because itunes had not recognised my ipod nano 5G, and told me to reinstall. Itunes selected which version to install, so I don't understand what is going on. To add insult to injury it installed a pile of malware which I am still trying to get rid off.
    Any advice would be helpful

  • Trying to update iTunes but keep getting the error messag "the url could not be opened" when it's always worked fine in the past. What does this mean?

Trying to update my iTunes but keep getting the error message "the URL could not be opened" what does this mean and how do I resolve this? It's always worked fine in the past!

Select a broken track and press ctrl-i to Get Info. Look on the summary tab for the location where iTunes "thinks" the file should be. Where is it really? Post back the two locations and I can suggest the best approach.

  • I'm trying to sync my ipad to the itunes library - but I get an error message saying I Tunes Library full.  What can I do?

I have an Ipad 2. I am trying to sync my ipad to the itunes library, but I get an error message - saying the itunes library is full.  How can that be? I've deleted lots from the library to see if that would help - but it still states I am about 25gb short.  Can anyone help what to do?

Could any of the music have been sourced on an external USB drive or a network drive? In iTunes, go to one of the songs that won't sync. Bring up the info page, and look at the location of that song on the disk. Does that file and path exist? That could be your problem, especially if they were on a USB drive you forgot about.

  • Received this message: "i Tunes Library.itl" cannot be read because it was created bya newer version of Itunes

I was trying to access ITUNES from my desktop in Windows 7 when I received the message: "i TUNES Library.itl" cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of ITUNES...

Typically this happens if you try to downgrade iTunes, but it might be possible for it to occur if the library is corrupt in some way. Either way the solution is to restore your most recent backup or revert to an older copy of the library file as follows.
    Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping. In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
When you get it all working make a backup!

  • I am the administrator for my computer, however I have tried several times to install itunes but keep getting an error message.

Apple gives an error signal saying that I need to be an adminstrator to make changes to all the users...there is only one adminstrator account and one guest account.

It reads that I don't have enough adminstrative privileges for every account to download the program
I'd like to have a closer look at that error message please.
Generate the error message again. While the error message box is open, hold down the Alt key and hit the PrtSc key. Paste the screenshot into an image file (using a program like Paint), and save the file.
Start a reply here and click the wee camera icon at the top of the reply window. Click "Choose file", browse to the image file, select the file and click "Open". Now click "Insert file" to insert the screenshot into the reply.

  • Have updated InDesign CC, but now get an error message for Font Manager.InDesignPlugin

I have updated recently updated InDesign CC, but now I get this error when I try to open a document that was working fine yesterday:
Cannot load Adobe InDesign CC because it requires version 9.1 or later of the Font Manager.InDesignPlugin plug-in. Please contact vendor for compatible version of Font Manager.InDesignPlugin.
Where can I find this plugin (for Mac)?

Thanks Peter, just saw your reply now, but that night I did uninstall and reinstall ID; in the morning did the ole shutdown - rest - command+option+p+r on start up as an added precaution and then it worked fine for the rest of the week.
Also, I got a new computer last week. The changeover to the new mac seeeeeemed to be fine...
However, I think Adobe suffers from Monday-itis as today I can't open any programmes as I get the attached message box when I try to  sign in to Creative Cloud. Will make this it's own post too.

  • Trying to reinstall Mavericks but keep getting an error message

I'm having some problems with my MacBook Pro so I'm trying to reinstall Mavericks.
I hold command+R at startup and get to the OS X Utilities.
I click "Reinstall OS X." I already tested it and I AM connected to the internet.
I click "continue" when it says it needs to verify the eligibility of my computer with Apple (it's definitely eligible).
An error message pops up. It says "An error occurred while preparing the installation. Try running this application again.
It's plugged in, I've tried restarting, I've checked the internet connection and it's working fine.
Any idea how to get this to work?

If possible, set the system clock as instructed here. If you can only start up in Recovery mode, see below.
Select Get Help Online. Safari will launch. While in Recovery, you'll have no access to your bookmarks, but you won't need them. Load this web page.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below to select it:
    date 0801000014
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
    Select
              Utilities ▹ Terminal
from the menu bar. A Terminal window will open. Paste into the window by pressing the key combination command-V.
Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign ($) to appear below what you entered. If it doesn't appear, press return.
Quit Terminal to return to the main screen. Try the installation again.
