The Mac OS X Lion Up-To-Date upgrade is available at no additional charge via the Mac App Store to all customers who purchased a qualifying new Mac system from Apple or an Apple Authorized Reseller on or after June 6, 2011. Users must request their Up-To-Date upgrade within 30 days of purchase of their Mac computer. Customers who purchase a qualifying Mac between June 6, 2011 and the date when Lion is available in the Mac App Store will have 30 days from Lion’s official release date to make a request.
Currently that's the only information available. I suspect more will be posted as we get closer to launch.

Your MBP should have been given to you with the original installation disks and OS. The Lion OS is licensed to the person who sold it to you. You will have create your own account and purchase Lion if you wish to use it. Those are the stipulations in the licensing agreements.

Thanks for your reply, Clinton. But I already have two readers that are USB-2 compatible. Now I need the one like I described above. I am using only the fastest CF cards available.
I have read some user reports (on Amazon) on two readers relevant to my needs - SanDisk and Lexar - but I'm still not sure whether they are fully compatible with the Retina MacBook and Mountain Lion. As a matter of fact, I doubt it...

Some basics please, what vintage is your MBP, have you plugged anything else into the wall socket to verify that it is live? which light doesn't turn on, the charger or the MBP?
Hold the power button down for 15 seconds, wait for 2 then press it normally and see te MBP it turns on

Yay! Solved my own question; just did a hard shutdown, worked like a charm! Funny, didn't before. But who am I to question salvation?

You are right - a dead battery can some times play these kinds of tricks.
If this is a removable battery, I suggest you take out the battery and try running it on the power adpater alone.

Cannot locate my admin password as it was setup at the Apple store when I purchase my MacBook Pro. They didn't give me the password and I didn't know I needed it. How do I get it?

When the Apple techs at their store setup my new MacBook Pro, my first Apple product they evidently acted as The Administrator. They did not tell me about this process or give me a password. So now when I need the password I have no idea what it is, etc. The Apple store is 60 miles from where I live. A challenge to just go in and get help. How can I find my password or set a new one?

Brand New Never Used Macbook Pro Will Not Power On. Please Help!

Ok so I just recieved my Macbook Pro 13" in the mail today, and when I went to turn it on it wouldn't. The power-up sound doesn't play and I have full battery power. I followed all of the steps leading up to the power-up step so I don't know what is wrong. I also tried all of the suggestions mentioned in the user guide, and don't know what to do next. I guess I will bring it in to the store soon if I can't get it fixed. Kind of disappointing since it is my first mac...

Lol yeh it came almost fully charged. I called Apple and am going to now send it back because it is DOA. Now I get to wait for at least another week before I get a new one. Ty for your responses.

When you held the option key down while booting you saw something like this.
It's called the Startup Manager and allows you to choose a boot drive, disk or volume to start the comptuer with.
You clicked on "deborah's macbook pro" which is the name you gave to your hard drive.
and it restarted showing me two hardrives
Well when the machine restarts, the power goes off and it comes on again with the "bong" sound, so likely it didn't do that.
The two hard drives you are seeing are likely log in accounts on a screen like this?

These are your accounts on the machine, you have two of them apparently.
NEITHER of which was the one i need. can you figure out something else?
Did you once have more that two accounts on the machine? Is there a account missing?
Did you try to log in and verify each of the accounts? Copy your files off to a external drive for safekeeping?
I think your going to need someone there personally to assist you and attempt data recovery before you go about deleting or fixing the problem with the accounts.
At this point I'm worried about your data, it's likely fine now if you don't log in, but if you do start changing things the data could be pernamently wiped or overwritten by new data.

Regular pauses on MacBook Pro 13-inch after upgrading to Lion

Ever since I upgraded to Lion my MacBook Pro 13-inch (Core 2 Duo) regularly pauses every hour or so; each pause lasts about 5 seconds, and during this time I see the spinning ball and my external HD (which I use for Time Machine) spins up. I also notice that opening certain applications take a longer time (spinning up my external drive); perhaps loading my previously loaded files? I never had this problem in Snow Leopard, but I regularly have this problem now. Any ideas on how to stop the pauses from happening?

It's because of the fact that my mbp is too old to be upgraded to lion ...
Although I've seen successful experiences of upgrading mbp 895 (manufactured by the end of 2007) to lion, it's a disaster due to random death halt according to my experiences..
It seems 10.7.4 could be OK since I have met no problems for more than one week, however, when upgrading to 10.7.5, the death halt happened every half an hour, while even if I downgraded to 10.7.4, it doen't help, while when I continuously downgraded to snow leopard 10.6.8, it works normally.

MacBook Pro Graphic Distort After Upgrading to Lion 10.7.5

Hi,
Recently, I upgraded my mbp which was produced by the end of 2007 (macbook pro 895) with geforce 8600m graphic card, from 10.5.8 to 10.7.5.
I noticed that logic board failure might occur on my mac, however, at least i was fortunate during past 5 years while not that lucky just after ugrading..
My phenomenon is: the screen suddenly distorted and the overall system hung without any response until I power off and restart. I am not sure whether it's just the logic board failure, but I feel that it might have something to do with software as shown in:
