I have recently put in another hard drive into my system to hold my iTunes any tips on how to transfer the system easier?

What is the easiest way tostill have my iStore and iTunes accounts and switch from my C: drive to my E: drive which is my new hard drive?

I have tried contacting Apple Support and they aren't supposed to give out info for XP. My warranty is with Best Buy and they said that they would reinstall iTunes into my E: drive for only $149.00.It cost me $200.00 to have the second hard drive installed by the people that made my computer. I just wanted more space to start my art business which will require the first hard drive's space. Plus when I'm working or playing on my computer I HAVE, NEED, itis REQUIRED that my music be playing. Needless to say right now I'm going nuts

  • Apple put a new hard drive into my MacBook Pro and updated the system to Maverick. They did not put iPhoto and iWeb on it but I did have it in Lion. Why and what am I supposed to do?

Apple put a new hard drive into my MacBook Pro and updated it from Lion to Maverick. They did not put iPhoto and iWeb on it but I did have it in Lion. They also didn't put Pages, Keynote or Numbers back on it until I argued with them. Of course, I didn't have my data backed up. My hard drive was destroyed when I tried to install the update of Mavericks myself. I should not have to buy iWeb and iPhoto when I already had them. Suggestions?

    cwhargrave,
have you tried looking in the App Store, to see if you can redownload iWeb and iPhoto there gratis?
If you haven’t done so already, you should purchase an external hard drive to act as a Time Machine backup destination, so that you’ll have an option to rollback to a working environment if a new OS installation is troublesome.

  • I have recently bought a LaCie Hard Drive,

I have recently bought a LaCie Hard Drive, it works fine, and I have formatted for use with Mac OS X.
I share my iMac with other users, 3 others to be exact, and I want them to be able to use the external hard drive to store their files, music etc. However, I do not want the other users to be able to view the other users information.
I have created 4 Individual folders, with the users names on it, and when I try to prevent access to the folders I seem to block access to everyone.
How can I prevent other users from accessing others users' folders on an external hard drive?

Select the drive in the Finder and choose Get Info from the File menu. Next, uncheck the box 'Ignore ownership on this volume'. When done, create the four folders on this drive. Change the Group and Other access for each folder to No Access in the Get Info window, and then change the owner to that of the account you want to be able to access the folder. You may be asked to enter your administrator password one or more times.
Some disk formats, such as Mac OS Standard, don't support file permissions; to check what format a disk is in, select it, choose Get Info from the File menu, and look at the General section.

  • Shall i put a 7200rpm hard drive into my black macbook for logic pro?

hi, i bought high spec black macbook refurbished which came with a 5400rpm drive inside it.
Im using logic pro, and its been running fine with small projects, but when i have a medium sized project using several vst instruments and exs24s using many audio samples, all of which are running off the internal.... i get error messages, system overload messages...and i am unable to bounce to audio file (in logic pro)
im thinking its the slow hard drive which is causing the main problems.
I have 2gb ram. It also takes sometimes over 5 mins to open this logic file. And then some!
Or is this poor performance par for the course, if using just ONE internal drive, for both system files and audio storage....... ?
Are there possible probs which may arise from taking out the 5400 drive and fitting a faster 7200 drive in to my macbook? I hear it will heat up more....so could this mess with other macbook componets?? the excess heat...... or are macbooks bulit to handle 7200rpm drives too??? dont remember is 7200 was an optional upgrade with my model or not......
    2.4ghz intelcore2duo.
Anybody fitted a 7200 drive into their macbooks???? all running ok??
Would i simply put the new hard drive in..... and then boot up from boot dvds and my time machine backup....to have a full up to date system, all apps and file intact as they are now???? Im worried it will get messy and problems...... my current drive is packed to rafters with apps and files and work i have done......i dont want to lose a thing.....would it be a simple easy fool proof transition to faster hard drive????
And could i still use the current hard drive? With an enclosure??
Ive heard people have ripped out the opticla dvd drive and fitted ANOTHER hard drive into their macbooks, so the laptop housing two hard drives..... that sounds good...but crazy..... maybe later ill do that....as i hardly use the cd/dvd drive...... and you can always hook it up with wire if need be......
any tips or advice....would be most kind and helpful.
    thankyou.

I used Carbon Copy Cloner- do not use Time Machine for this- to make a bootable clone of the drive inside my Macbook Pro, and then installed the new, faster drive. I then booted from the cloned drive, and cloned that back into the fresh internal drive. That being said:
    1) I only did this since I bought the laptop used, and didn't get the install OS discs. I would have started fresh and installed everything myself, but then again, it wasn't my laptop, and I didn't care about what was on it. You might.
    2) You need to clone to an external Firewire drive if you want to make a bootable clone. Do not use USB. Do not use Time Machine, as its backups are not able to be booted from.
    3) The whole replace the internal DVD drive with another sounds pretty iffy to me. Just use the Firewire drive you'll now be having at you disposal for a variety of things, including possibly recording to. I can advise once I know what your interface is, if any, and if you've got a Macbook or a Macbook Pro- I forgot to look.
You will get much better results with a 7200 RPM drive, by the way. You can certainly use the old drive in some sort of enclosure, although it's still a slow drive and all, so I wouldn't really invest much into it. Maybe put it in a USB enclosure and use it for backups, or for transporting material, or for cracking walnuts, maybe, if you have a walnut tree.
Even in this fancy computer age, there is still nothing better than a freshly roasted walnut or pecan. Good luck, L

  • I recently used an external hard drive to back up photos etc from my mac, I didn't do a full system back up. Since then a finder window titled 'client node' keeps popping up every time i hit the spacebar. Can anyone help me please stop this happening?

Click on it, choose Get Info from the File menu, and check the format.
If it's formatted as NTFS, reformat it as MS-DOS, exFAT, or Mac OS Extended (Journaled) as desired, or install software such as Paragon NTFS on the computer.
If it's formatted as FAT32 or exFAT, use the Disk Utility's Repair Disk command on it; this may also happen for a flash drive which is about to fail.
If it's formatted as Mac OS Extended, click Authenticate and provide your administrator password, or change the permissions on that specific folder in its Get Info window.

  • HT3770 I have recently bought a external hard drive and I was told to down load a Fat 32 in order to work with my MAC/ Is this right and how do I find the download and how to install to make my new external drive compatible with my MAC?

What is a Fat 32 which I am suppose to download inorder to work on a MAC for external drive to be compatable ?

Bad advice. You do not need or want FAT.
You want GUID and Mac HFS Standard Journaling.
You don't download when you write files, or when you format or erase a drive.

  • How do I install Windows Vista in my R500 that I just put a new hard drive into?

I was given an R500 that had the hard drive removed by the previous owner for security reasons. I bought a charger and a new hard drive and intended to install Windows Vista that I bought a while ago and never used. I charged up the battery. The battery is good. I installed the hard drive. I'm pretty sure I got that right. Then I turned on the laptop. I expected to see a menu giving me some hint as to what to do next but all I see is ThinkPad in big white letters and underneath "To interrupt normal startup, press the blue ThinkVantage button." I stared at the screen for a while and then pushed the blue ThinkVantage button. Nothing happened. I opened the disc drive and put in the installation disk thinking that should bring up a menu. It didn't. Nothing happened.
I'm reasonably experienced with computers and have installed hardware and operating systems before but this has my stymied.
Anybody have any idea about how this is supposed to work?

Actually, I tried that and nothing worked. Couldn't get past the opening screen. Fortunately, I have several other Thinkpads of various models that I got for a few bucks each (without hard drives) from a business that was replacing all their laptops. I pulled the hard drive out and put it in another R500 and, after a few fits and starts, got Vista up and running and then found out that the touchpad was flakey and the mouse pointer would freeze. All the USB ports were broken so I couldn't use my wireless mouse. Out came the hard drive and my next try was in an R61. Funny thing. Vista opened right up but there's no touchpad on the R61. (You can tell I'm new to Thinkpads.) Took me a few minutes of scratching my head and googling to figure out that the red button moves the mouse pointer on the screen. Now I have one good one so far and I'll see how many of the others I can make work.
    Thanks for your help.

  • Has anyone had issues with putting a 1TB hard drive into an early 2008 20 inch iMac?

I have been trying to upgrade my 250GB hard to a 1TB Western Digital Blue hard drive.  So far I have tried the following...
    * CCC clone
    * Super Duper clone
    * Disk Utility clone
    * Fresh install of Mavericks and Migration Assistant
Each time I do these I am able to boot to the new hard drive externally through holding down the Option key and choosing the new drive.  However, when I install the new drive internally all I ever get is a blinking folder with a question mark upon startup.  I cannot get the new drive to boot when it's installed in the machine.  And, I can't get to Disk Utility when the new drive is installed either.  Once the new drive is installed internally I lose the ability to do anything with the compuetr.  I have tried several different key combinations, but all I ever get is the blinking question mark folder.  The only time I can boot to my new disk is if the old drive is installed internally and the new drive is external.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks.

    Thanks for your replies!
Right after I wrote, the dvd player started working again.  With the old HD in, I booted from the disk and went into disk utility to see if I could repair the old HD.  It could not see the old drive.
So I decided to get brave and try the new HD (sorry I did not see your feedback on the green drives, first).  I got  WD because that's what was in there and I had good luck with WD's in the past. Of course, as soon as I fired up, it spit the dvd out.  I tried 4 times and on the last try it read the DVD.
The I used the procedure I saw on GIZMODO (http://gizmodo.com/333319/the-secret-of-the-time-machine+assisted-hard-drive-swa p) to partition the drive correctly and start the resore.  I guess I'll know in 4 hours whether or not I succeeded.
If the green drive works for the time machine swap, should I be good to go?  I went for the green because it was cooler running and the back of the computer always got extremely hot right before it acted up.  Of course, I did a thorough cleaning as part of the repair.

  • My hard drive crashed so I had to reinstall iTunes. Now I can't see the full versions of the songs I purchased recently in iTunes.

I can see the preview versions of the songs in my account but I don'[t know how to restore the full versions.  Thanks for any advice.

Depending on which country you are in, then you might be able to re-download the music from iTunes : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2519 . Otherwise have you not got a backup of your purchases on, for example, an external drive or DVD that you can copy back onto your computer and add into iTunes ?

  • HT2518 I just left the Apple store after they checked and wiped my machine. When I plug the external hard drive in to restore my files, there is no prompts on how to migrate the files. I can see the backup from yesterday. How do I get the migration accomp

  • Can I put a 3TB hard drive?

I have an AirPort Extreme in place a USB 1TB hard drive and my question is. Can I put a 3TB hard drive?

3TB is no problem.. you will need to format it on the Mac HFS+ ie Mac OS extended journaled. Don't try using FAT32 etc for such a large drive.

  • My macbook hard drive stopped working and I loaded another hard drive and can access time capsule but it doesn't show any of my old files and I don't understand why

My 7 year old macbook hard drive stopped working and I put in another hard drive but when I went to restore my information from airport time capsule it only shows today and nothing older.  Help?

Did you do a TM backup after you installed the disk? It may write over the previous backup.. but it should actually start a new one.
Read the info about using migration.. see http://pondini.org/TM/Home.html
Or the Mac is probably looking at the backup as from a different computer.
See the details of how to use TM to restore to a different Mac.
    Q17 here. http://pondini.org/TM/FAQ.html
I would read through 14-17 carefully.
You should be able to do a full recovery of the TM backup to a USB drive plugged into the computer.

  • I format my laptop to win 7 pro 64 bit then i installed itunes and i want my old podcasts to be on the library. i have my old podcast in hard drive. what should i do to get it????

i format my laptop to win 7 pro 64 bit then i installed itunes and i want my old podcasts to be on the library. i have my old podcast in hard drive. what should i do to get it????

I assume the podcasts you have are the mp3 or other audio files rather than a podcast feed in iTues or another rss reader? You can simply drag the audio files into iTunes, though they will appear in the 'Music' list since iTunes has know way of knowing that they come from a podcast.
You can change the 'Media Kind' in the get Info pane (menu File>Get Info>Options pane) to 'Podcast' but each file will appear as a podcast with no title, containing the single episode.
