I have several Add-ons that state that they will install/uninstall after Firefox restarts but never does.

I have several Add-Ons that state "This add-on will be installed (uninstalled in some cases) when Firefox is restarted." No matter how many times I restart Firefox they do not install or uninstall.
Some of the Add-ons include Adobe DLM (which is a major pain in the ars to begin with), NoScript, and United States English Spellchecker. I have had problems with other Add-ons not installing after after an update but after several attempts to reinstall them from the Add-on Gallery the finally installed again.

Try resetting the Extension Manager. 
With Firefox closed, rename the following files in your profile folder: 
extensions.cache 
extensions.ini 
extensions.rdf 
and 
compatibility.ini 
They'll be re-created when you open Firefox.
Note : ''Although unwanted files/folders can be deleted, renaming them is generally considered a safer option. This achieves the same result, but allows the user to retrieve any possibly required information from them later on. In the case above, rename the above 4 files as , 'extensionsOLD.ini', 'extensionsOLD.cache', 'extensionsOLD.rdf, 'compatibilityOLD.ini' ''

Tried that too over the weekend,I unchecked the Photos option in iCloud preferences in System, let iPhoto do it's thing, then restarted the Mac, and turned iCloud Photos back on again... it looked promising the first hour... but then stopped downloading 20 or so albums. I have over 80 shared albums created over the years.
Also, the albums it did download, sometimes they're not even complete nor in any particular order.
I did exactly what you did. It took two days, but slowly all shared streams came back.
If the photo streams do not reappear, try if removing the content of this folder will help: It contains the photos downloaded from the shared streams. Perhaps one photo is corrupted.
~/Library/Application Support/iLifeAssetManagement/assets/sub-shared/
Quit iPhoto
Move the folder above from your User Library to the Trash.
Restart your Mac.

I have two add-ons that are enabled AND working but they are their icons are not displaying.

I have Firebug and Adblock-Plus on my Firefox browser that are not displaying their normal shortcut buttons next to the search bar of Firefox. They were displaying fine yesterday, now today they are not displaying at all. They are installed and enabled. There were no changes on my end (user end), that could explain this occurrence. No new addons installed. No new plugins. Any help would be grateful.

I have Firebug and am on Ubuntu at present, so my options may differ slightly from Windows, and over time the Firebug options probably have changed.
If you reset the toolbars to default settings by resetting localstore.rdf you may need to make some changes to recreate whatever you had before.
I may display a full Firebug toolbar with keyboard key F12. That toolbar includes several display options from clicking the firebug icon. I also have Firebug showing as an option from
* Tools -> WebDeveloper -> Firebug.
If I use the customise toolbars option; for example from right clicking an empty space on a toolbar; the palette of icons includes one for Firebug that I may place where I like. If you try to create a custom toolbar remember it needs to be populated, if it has nothing on it it will not display.

Presumably you are able to use Firebug, it is just an icon that you are missing ? is that correct ?

How can I get back to an older version of Firefox? I have an add-on that is not compatible with version 5.0 but I need it !

The latest versions of Firefox require at least Mac OS X 10.5 and an Intel processor. You can revert to Firefox 3.6.xx for Mac 10.4 by downloading the installer from http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all-older.html

contact your school’s IT support department. Since your school requires that that program be installed on your Mac, they’re the ones who are responsible for its well-being on your Mac.

Despite add-ons and settings, cookies are still being saved after Firefox closes.

I have set Firefox to delete all cookies when Firefox closes. This does not work but I have read this is by design (although there is absolutely no point in having this option if it does not do what it says). So after reading forums I have tried several other things. I have both BetterPrivacy and DoNotTrackPlus installed. I have also set browser.sessionstore.privacy_level to "2" and browser.sessionstore.resume_from_crash to "false" in about:config which I have seen in several posts. Finally, I only use the internet with Private Browsing now. Despite all of those precautions, AVG continues to pick up what appear to be the same 9 cookies constantly.

How can I avoid this? I am fairly tired of cookies, persistent cookies, LSO cookies, what have you. What is the point of all of these actions if none of them stop cookies from being saved permanently on my computer? Thanks for your reply jscher2000. It took me a while me to hunt down what exactly what was causing those cookies but your response helped me to open up my thinking a bit to consider non-firefox alternatives. I got distracted initially trying to see when the cookies were being added which led to a whole side problem of hidden files remaining hidden even when I checked to un-hide them under properties (I finally figured that out using "organize/folder and search options/view" and editing the registry) and then I spent some time performing one action at a time and checking the cookies folder. Imagine my embarrassment when it turns out a game was actually responsible for putting those cookies there (not internet browsing through firefox). Unless there are two applications/add-ons doing it? After deleting some cookies, I started noticing the cookies appearing in a different folder (...\AppData\Local\Temp\Cookies). Either the game changed which folder it was putting the cookies in (originally it was the ...\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Cookies) or two applications/add-ons are putting basically identical cookies in each of the two folders I mentioned. I find it much more reasonable that the game is responsible for both locations and somehow how meddling around with cookies and deleting them and such caused a change given that the game seems to have files in both of those locations (although the files are hidden in one of the locations). Finally, if other people read this, when I was looking for cookies being generated I missed it at first because new files weren't being created necessarily but lines of cookie text were being added to existing files without actually changing the displayed file size. A very long-winded response and probably more than anyone wanted to know but thanks again for the time and effort of your answer jscher.

If there are problems with updating then best is to download the full version and uninstall the currently installed version.
Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.

* Do not remove personal data when you uninstall the current version.
Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.
* It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored elsewhere in the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Firefox Profile Folder] and won't be affected by a reinstall, but make sure that you do not select to remove personal data if you uninstall Firefox.

Firefox is slow to open! I have latest version 3.6.16 - I have several add-ons, they may be the cause?

My OS is Win XP Professional 5.1 Service Pack 3

I had the same problem as well. Dad had the same problem with his Seamonkey browser until...
Solution: Uninstall Firefix 3.6.x and get Firefox 4.
Be careful with your old profile data. It may not work well with 4. Export your bookmarks, and note your plugins to re-add them to Firefox 4.

I have a few important add-ons that will not work, yet, with Firefox 4. How easy is it for me to downgrade to 3.6 temporarily until these issues have been resolved?

I really need to downgrade to the previos Firefox version just until a couple of add-ons have been upgraded. How easily can I do this without losing my current settings?

There is no guarantee that the add-ons that currently do not work with Firefox 4 will ever be updated, they may have been discontinued.
To downgrade to Firefox 3.6 first uninstall Firefox 4, but do not select the option to "Remove my Firefox personal data". If you select that option it will delete your bookmarks, passwords and other user data.
You can then install the latest version of Firefox 3.6 available from http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html - it will automatically use your current bookmarks, passwords etc.
To avoid possible problems with downgrading, I recommend going to your profile folder and deleting the following files if they exist - extensions.cache, extensions.rdf, extensions.ini, extensions.sqlite and localstore.rdf. Deleting these files will force Firefox to rebuild the list of installed extensions, checking their compatibility, and reset toolbar customizations.

In past versions of ff I have used Tab Renamizer add-on to allow me to rename the main tab in each profile. Does anyone know of any firefox add-ons that have a similar features to Tab Renamizer?

I run several firefox profiles at the same time. In the past I have used Tab Renamizer to label the main tab in each profile. I like this because then I can tell them a part from the drop-down list in win 7 when switching between profiles. The new version of firefox is not supported by this add-on. Does anyone know of any firefox add-ons that have a similar feature?

core-el, i don't see the advantage of that or i can't figure out how i'm supposed to use it. for starters, i have to click the mouse in order to get "add bookmark here" to open, which is no different than clicking on the star in the location bar, or right-clicking on the page. there are also options in the bookmarks toolbar, but they all require clicking the mouse & holding down the right button, etc.
my goal is to use keystrokes only. typing on the keyboard, using both hands, using the space bar & my left pinky finger to tab over are all painless routines for me. as soon as i have to take my fingers off the keyboard & use the mouse, the pain begins.
as i said, in older versions of firefox, all i had to do to bookmark a page was click ctrl>d, then tab over & arrow down, when appropriate, to find the folder & add the bookmark. for me, as a touch-typist whose speed is between 60 & 80 wpm, this is lightning fast.
if i have this wrong, please correct me. i just see it as more mouse clicks that don't save me time or pain.

It sounds like there is an issue with the audiobook you purchased from iTunes. I recommend following the steps in the following article to report this to the iTunes Store:
To report an issue with your iTunes Store, App Store, Mac App Store, or iBookstore purchase, follow these steps:
Find the email receipt for your purchase.
Click Report a Problem under the app that is having the issue.
When prompted, enter the Apple ID and password you used to purchase the item, then click Report a Problem.

Follow the onscreen instructions and—if prompted—type a description of the problem into the text field.

I closed then reopened my navigation toolbar using the Alt button. When it re-opened the add-ons(?) that were on it were no longer there. I'm specifically looking for two add-ons that took me to "Major Television channels" and "Minor television channels".

I would be content just to have the add-ons back, the one that allowed me to view ABC, NBC, CBS and a handful of other channels, and the one that connected me to the National Geographic channel and I believe some of the Discovery, etc channels . I can get to the Nat Geo if I go through my history but most of the other channels I can't. I've had MozFire on my computer for a while but mainly used Google Chrome until last week when I decided to check out MozFire. As has happened in the past I found myself really liking this program and wondering why I haven't been using it all along.

How do I restore the add-ons that I downloaded and installed?

I thought I wanted to be a Firefox 4 beta tester. I downloaded the program and proceeded to install. During the installation, a message popped up and said these add-ons were not supported. I think it disabled either some or all of the add-ons. It continued with the installation. I don't know if this is related or not but I use Google Chrome while using Facebook to play some game applications. Every time that I have used Chrome today, I get "page unresponsive" message with the option to kill the page or wait for it to become responsive. That message is followed by "the following plug-in is unresponsive": shockwave flash player would you like to stop it? Well, if you click "yes" you can't play, if you click "no" it eventually crashes anyway. I finally uninstalled Firefox 4 beta. When I went back into Firefox 3.6, I noticed that the Zynga toolbar that I downloaded to use with my Facebook game applications is gone. Like I said I don't know if the one problem is related to the other but I wasn't having any issues with Google Chrome until I downloaded and installed Firefox 4 beta. I need to know how to restore to those add-ons that I downloaded and installed prior to downloading the Firefox 4 beta program.
