I have used migration assistant but new profile is created, how do i merge into one

I have recently purchased Mac book and have used migration assistant to transfer files from my old windows PC.
Due to some issues when using migration tool i had to transfer in segments, each time i did this a new user was created.
I have asked for  some help and was advised that users cannot be merged however the files can be shared via dropbox.
I have received instructions as to how to do this but am stuck as once I get to the point of dropbox, I do not know what step to take next to add files into dropbox?.
Below are instructions
Pick a User Account your going to keep, make sure it's a Admin account and if need to, log into another Admin account and make it so in System Preferences > accounts.
One logs out of their current account by using the Apple menu > Log out.
Next while in one of the accounts your later planing on removing, go to the Finder > Go > Computer and window opens.
Open  the MacintoshHD partition, then the Users folder and the User Account  you plan to keep, then the Public folder and then locate the DropBox  folder for that User. Any files placed in there will change permissions  and be accessible to that user when you log into it.

The Dropbox folder is a subfolder of the home folder, which has the same name as the user account. It's under the Users folder at the top level of the startup volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name.)

Look for them on your old computer, when found copy the files to a USB drive and move them to the new computer.

  • I transferred about 400 gigs of data from my MacBook Pro to my new iMac using Migration Assistant, but it doesn't show on Finder. How can I locate my data?

I transferred about 400 gigs of data from my MacBook Pro to my new iMac using Migration Assistant, but can't find any of my data on Finder. I'm thinking that the data got transferred but not cataloged. Finder shows about 400 gigs of my hard drive being used, but the files it shows don't come anywhere close to 400 gigs. How can I find out what is really on the hard drive and how can I access my MacBook files I transferred?

I suggest that you start over, boot into Internet recovery mode, launch Disk Utility, erase and reformat the HD with one partition and GUID option, quit Disk Utility, restore the OS, and on first boot, use the Setup Assistant to migrate from the MacBook, following the steps in Pondini's Setup New Mac guide. If that doesn't solve your problem, contact Apple's Support. If they recommend the same steps, I'd opt to return the machine and get another (you can do that the first 14 days you own it, no questions asked).

  • How to recover my backups?? i used migration assistant but none of my old files showed up. I backed up daily and did a full disk back up twice.

Open System Preferences and select Users & Groups. Assuming the migration was successful, you now have a new account - it was migrated. Migration Assistant doesn't copy files, it copies accounts. To see your documents you'll need to log into the account you migrated. (It has the same password it did on the other computer.)

  • I just ran migration assistant, and now I have two accounts on my new iMac...how do I merge my iPhoto libraries?

I just ran migration assistant, and now I have two accounts on my new iMac...how do I merge my iPhoto libraries? Is there anyway to do it without using an external hard drive?

    Yes there is.
1: Log out and into the account you later want to remove.
2: Open your Pictures folder and look for the iPhoto Library.
3: Right or control click on it, a menu appears and choose the option "Show Package Contents", it's really a folder.
4: Find the folder called "Originals", select it and use the Finder menu to Duplicate it.
5: Move the Copy of Originals to the Desktop. Close the window.
6: From the Finder menu, select Go Computer.
7: A window appears with your boot drive, double click it and on the Users folder inside.
8: Select the OTHER users folder and open the folder called Public, inside is a folder called "DropBox"
9: Drag the Copy of Originals to that DropBox folder, it will copy it.
    10. Log out and into the other account and access the DropBox folder, your files can then be imported into that iPhoto user Library from within the program itself.

I used Migration Assistant to transfer all my documents from my PC to my new iMac but i cannot find them on my iMac.  I am a first time iMac user.  What am i doing wrong or where to find them?
    thanks

They're in a new user account created by the Migration.  When you next log on, you should get a prompt to assign a password for the new account.

  • I have used migration assistant to shift my contents from another Macbook Pro, but are getting an error message 150:30. I have deactivated the software on the old machine and done a restart on the new one, but still get this error message

As above - first time I have used a forum, so thought I had to put all the details into the heading

Migration assistant doesn't move all the necessary files.
You really need to reinstall your Adobe apps on the new system to get all the support files in the right place (and with the right permissions).

  • Used migration assistant but now new software is gone

OOk, after a somewhat nightmarish experience of trying to transfer my data and applications from my old MacBook pro to my new macbook air, by wiping the MacBook Air clean and using migration assistant, I've discovered that the new version of pages, presentation and imessage etc are all missing. Is there a way to get them back?! I rather liked the new version of pages.

What exactly do you mean by "my profile"? Your user account may or may not show up in various places but if it exists it should have a home folder visible in the root level "Users" folder, identified by its short account name. Even if you log into your wife's account, you should be able to see this folder (although you won't necessarily be able to open most of its enclosed folder).
For example, if your user account was named "jay" on your G4, you should see a folder of that name in the Users folder.

  • Used migration assistant but says i dont have "sufficient privileges"

I used migration assistant las night and got all my applications in the applications folders but left all the other ones in another folder. when i go t open the photos or movies or documents or any other one it has a little red badge on it. when i open it it says i do not have sufficient privileges. can some one please help.
thank you so much in advance.

When I first noticed the problem is when I first tried opening up iTunes this week for the first time in a while. It says this. This application has failed to start because MSVCR80.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem. Then I tried downloading the new version and got that message I sent from the previous reply. Then it tells me to abort retry or ignore. It says iTUNES was not installed correctly. It says to do so. Error 7 Windows Errror 126

  • Just used Migration Assistant but spotlight won't index files on new iMac computer.

I just used Migration Assistant to move files from my old 2008 Mac Pro to a new 2013 iMac 27" both Intel based. Files and applications all moved over fine and I can access them in Finder but Spotlight won't index the files. Should I be reindexing something or do I need to do somethign for spotlight to recognize the new filez I migrated?
    Thanks!

You can force a Spotlight index, just let it run and your migration should be just fine. Instructions are in:
Spotlight: How to re-index folders or volumes located at: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2409

  • Used migration assistant but can't find my stuff

I recently purchased a new iMac 21.5 inch screen.  I ran the Setup Assistant and then later ran the Migration Assistant.  I migrated my files on the old computer (2006 iMac running Snow Leopard 10.6.8) first using an ethernet cable between the two computers, and then second using Time Machine.  I followed all of the instructions but now can find my migrated files.  They don't show up on my new iMac running Mavericks.  Help!!!

If you used Migration Assistant it creates a second user account. Log out of your user account and log back into the new account and you will find your data.

Migration Assistant creates a new user account with the transferred data. The only thing you have to do is to log out or reboot, and log in the new user, so you will access to your new data.
If you want to merge the data of both users, see > https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-5472

  • I just used Migration Assistant but nothing happened??

I connected my 13" black MacBook to my 13" MacBook Pro and wen't through the steps in the Migration Assistant utility. I only slected to migrate my "users" which contained my music, documents, pictures etc... It took about 1:20 min. Whe it was complete I opened iPhoto and iTunes but nothing was there. What gives?

Not really. It's not a simple matter to copy your data from one account to the other because of permissions that will not allow you to transfer from one user's account to another, and what you may transfer will not allow you access. You would then need to change the ownership via a series of Terminal commands.
It's best to use the migrated account and delete the account you created using the Setup Assistant.

  • I used migration assistent but all Iwork apps give an error

Because my Macbook died, I transferred everything from there over to my IMac. Both macs had well functioning pages, numbers etc apps before, but after migration, none of them works anymore. The dialogue window says: Pages can't open because of a problem. You may need to reinstall the application.
Now I do still have the installation CD, but this is being thrown out right after I gave it in.
    What to do?

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
iWork apps require some additional files that looks like they aren't on your hard drive, and that's why you are getting an error. Unfortunately, the only solution is to reinstall iWork from the DVD.
Also, you can try to install the latest iWork version from  > Software Update
