Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

Cannot open iPhoto. Message says iPhoto is damaged or corrupted. This happened after I installed iLife 11 and after I used iDVD to burn slideshows. I do see thumbnails of my photos in the iDVD media. How do I get my iPhoto and iPhoto library back?
Reinstall iPhoto.
- after backing up, of course.
To re-install iPhoto
1. Put the iPhoto.app in the trash (Drag it from your Applications Folder to the trash)
2. Download it from the App Store to reinstall It's on your Purchases List* there.
For older versions that have been installed from Disk you'll need these additional steps:
2a: On 10.5: Go to HD/Library/Receipts and remove any pkg file there with iPhoto in the name.
2b: On 10.6: Those receipts may be found as follows: In the Finder use the Go menu and select Go To Folder. In the resulting window type
/var/db/receipts/
2c: on 10.7 or later they're at
/private/var/db/receipts
A Finder Window will open at that location and you can remove the iPhoto pkg files.
3. Re-install.
If you purchased an iLife Disk, then iPhoto is on it.
If iPhoto was installed on your Mac when you go it then it’s on the System Restore disks that came with your Mac. Insert the first one and opt to ‘Install Bundled Applications Only.
*Sometimes iPhoto is not visible on the Purchases List. it may be hidden. See this article for details on how to unhide it.

One question often asked: Will I lose my Photos if I reinstall?
iPhoto the application and the iPhoto Library are two different parts of the iPhoto programme. So, reinstalling the app should not affect the Library. BUT you should always have a back up before doing this kind of work. Always. -
Installed iLife '08 and iPhoto will not print
I recently installed iLife '08 and everything appears to work fine except we cannot print from iPhoto. The printer is fine and I can print from all other apps. iPhot cannot print, or order photos. Nothing happens when I attempt to print, order photos, cards or anything. HELP!!!
I tried setting up a new account adn test printing. Tried it on 2 new accounts and iPhoto load and updates, but shows no pictures or events. Where should iPhoto Library be? Mine is currently under users/username/pictures/iPhoto Library. If in wrong place, how do I move it to the right place without losing ability to find them and use iPhoto? Problem is in main account. Please help.

CANNOT OPEN OR EDIT PHOTOS SINCE INSTALLING iLIFE 08 and OS 10.5
I have recently installed iLIFE 08 and OS 10.5.1 and I cannot open or edit or use any of the photos in iPhoto. I get a white circle with an exclamation point in the center each time I try open open a photo.
I did back up iPhoto before installing the new software. Should I reinstall from the back up or is there another fix for this problem. Thank you in advance for the help.Welcome to the Apple Discussions. I believe that's an indication of a permissions issue. Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed and follow the instructions to rebuild the library. Select the option to repair permissions.
If that doesn't fix it download and run BatChmod on the iPhoto Library folder with the settings shown here, putting your administrator login name, long or short, in the owner section and the current group in the group section. You can either type in the path to the folder or just drag the folder into that field.
Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Installing iLife '09 and keep iLife '08
Hey,
I was just wondering is it possible to install iLife '09 and keep iLife '08. If not then after I'm done "trying" '09, can I restore my library by removing the iLife '09 apps, reinstall iLife '08, and then open the iPhoto Library file which I had backed up? (And just for checking purposes it's enough to back up the iPhoto Library file in my Pictures folder, right?)
All help is appreciated and thanks in advance.I was just wondering is it possible to install iLife '09 and keep iLife '08.
Yes - Old Toad does keep old versions of iPhoto - he can describe how

Cannot play music since installing iLife 08 and OS 10.5
I have just installed iLife 08 and OS 10.5.1 and I now cannot list to my music on iTunes or update my iPod.I get a message indicating that the song could not be used as the original file could not be found.
I backed up iTunes before installing new software. Should I re-install from the backup or is there another fix for this problem? Thanks for the help.Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Installing iLife 08 and downloading iMovie 06
Hello to all.
I just bought iLife 08 and will be installing it soon. My plan is to install iLife 08 and then download iMovie 06 from the Apple site because the new iMovie 08 only runs on an Intel processor or on a G5 Mac. Besides, from what I have read, the iMovie version 06 version is better than the new one (depending on your preferences) in that it retains the same interface as before.
My Mac is a G4 (733) with an external DVD burner.
My question is when I download and install the iMovie 06 application, will it overwrite my old iMovie 2.0 application or will I have both versions in my application folder? I would like to keep the original 2.0 version on my hard drive because it has served my purposes quite well. Also will the movies I already have in my movie folder be automatically updated to the new version or will my saved movies retain the characteristics of the old original version in which they were created?
Thanks for any assistance you can give.

I doubt there are many out there who have actual experience doing this. My guess would be no since the v6.0.4 download is installed in it's own separate folder named "iMovie (previous version)."
Also will the movies I already have in my movie folder be automatically updated to the new version or will my saved movies retain the characteristics of the old original version in which they were created?
Once again, no practical experience on my part here, but would expect it be able to read previous versions. As to how many previous versions without intermediate conversions -- well, that might be a different matter. Certainly wouldn't hurt to try since you will likely still have iMovie v2 even if the old projects can't be read. -
Just installed ilife 11 and it deleted my movie project, where did it go
Just installed ilife 11 and it deleted my movie project from the old version, where did it go
Installing iMovie will not cause a project to be deleted, so it is probably there somewhere.
What version of iMovie did you have before? Is everything on your internal drive, or do you have external drives? -

I was in the middle of a restore on my Ipad 2 and lost internet connection about 2/3 of the way through the firmware update, and now it fails everytime I try to restore. It says ERROR 2. Can anyone help?
Resolve specific iTunes update and restore errors - Support - Apple
Configure your security software
Related errors: 2, 4, 6, 9, 1000, 1611, 9006, 9807, 9844. Sometimes as a result of this issue, a device might stop responding during the restore process.
Check your security software and settings, which can block ports and prevent connection to Apple servers during update and restore. -
I just bought an iTunes card yesterday and redeemed it, but everytime I try to buy this one album, it says I have insufficient store credit. Which I most definitely do not.
Click here and ask the iTunes Store staff for assistance. Only they will know why for certain.

I downloaded ios 6 for my iPad 2 and some of the upgrades went through but not all. It sounds like I need to reinstall ios 6. How do you do that? Everytime I try to upgrade it says I'm already updated
If you mean Siri then that is only on the iPad 3, it is not on the iPad 2 in iOS 6 (possibly because the iPad 2 doesn't have the Audience chip which the iPad 3 does). If there are other things that you think are missing (YouTube has been removed, and Passbooks is iPhone and iPod Touch only) ?

Installed iLife 11 and can't open iPhoto
When I try to open iPhoto after installing iLife 11, I get the error that it cannot be opened because it is "damaged or is incomplete". What the???? I can't open iPhoto at all!
1. Put the iPhoto.app in the trash (Drag it from your Applications Folder to the trash)
2. Go to HD/Library/Receipts and remove any pkg file there with iPhoto in the name. On 10.6 those receipts may be found in the Finder using the Go menu and selecting Go To Folder
In the resulting window type
/var/db/receipts/
3. Re-install.
I dont know where everything is on the mac. also if i do this to resolve the iphoto problem will it remove all my pictures i had in there before? -
How do I install iLife 8 and what happens to all my old projects?
I want to buy and install iLife 8 but as I have never upgraded to a new version before I don't know how you do this (apart from purchasing it of course).
Step by step, how do you install the disc?
What happens to all my existing and work in progress iMovie and iDVD projects? Can I continue to work on them or should I wait until I have finished them before upgrading?
Message was edited by: 12frets56If you have a book started in iPhoto 6 then you might want to make a backup copy of the library and the application as some book themes are not included in iPhoto 7. iPhoto 7 will continue to work with that theme but if you switch to another to see what it looks like you can't go back. Another approach is to make a copy of the book in iPhoto 6 for backup just in case, select it and type Command-D.
It apperars that the new large hardcover books have printed dust jackets with the cover photo instead of the photo on the hard cover.
