Yet Network control panel says I am connect to the modem, and Network Diagnosis says I am connected to the Internet. It's like the blind man who has eyes that cannot see. BTW, I am not some newbee. I have been a Machead since the early nineties and set up a half dozen networks, including the one I am using at home to which the iMac mysteriously is there but not. This has me stumped! I am considering going back to 10.7!

Select  ▹ System Preferences ▹ Network ▹ Advanced ▹ TCP/IP. What values are shown for the following:
Configure IPv4
IPv4 Address
Subnet Mask
Router

Mac OS X doesn't come with iLife applications, so you have to install them manually after installing Mac OS X.
Insert the Applications disc or Mac OS X Install Disc 2 DVD and install iLfe applications. Then, open  > Software Update, and install the latest update. If you want, you can purchase iMovie, GarageBand and iPhoto in the App Store, so you will get the most recent version

I just installed Mountain Lion on my iMac. But In was dismayed to find that my Canon scanner software (Canoscan LIDE500F)no longer works. Nor do any of my MS offce applications. I tried to use time machine to reinstall Snow Leopard (my previous operating system), but unfortunately my time machine backups did not include system software. Also, the original system install disk that came with my iMac would not allow me to install Snow Leopard in place of Mountain Lion. The reason your Office doesn't work is because it is PowerPC code. If you will upgrade the 2004 Office to 2011 Office then that will work.
I don't understand how you managed to get your Time Machine backup to not backup the system.
Now if you still what to downgrade you will have to erase the disk and reinstall Snow Leopard. Most likely all of your application and then restore your data from Time Machine.
To me it sounds like it would be easier to upgrade your software and stay with Mountain Lion instead.

I believe there is no "Export to Tape" feature as appeared in legacy FCP.

After installing Mountain Lion on my Imac, volume keys and scroll function are disabled.

I just installed Mountain Lion on my 2 year old Imac and now the keyboard volume controls don't work and the scroll function on my magic mouse has stopped as well. All these were working fine until the install. I have seen other posts of people having the same problem but haven't seen any definite solutions yet. Really annoying "benefit" to upgrading.

For the mouse scrolling issue, check the setting in System Preferences > Accessibility > Mouse & Trackpad > Mouse options... button > check Scrolling.

Yes you can. You need to log into the Mac App Store, on your iMac, using the EXACT same "Apple ID" that you used to download Mountain Lion to your MacBook, go to your Purchases list for that ID and download ML again for Free to the iMac.

I use Telivo as a media server and have noticed that after installing mountain lion that my machine now sleeps as predicted in power settings after the allocated time. Any way I can stop my machine sleeping when streaming?

In previous versions of OS X I could use Telivo no problem and my machine would only go into sleep mode after I had finished watching a movie.

Strange as it seems and without having resolved my problem, I decided to enter an appointment fo tomorrow. When I double-clicked tomorrow's date on the calendar to enter the information, like magic, the other appointments appeared.
Therefore, double-clicking a date on the calendar was the answer or it was a magnificent coincidence of timing!

Don't worry, this is probably just Verbose Mode. It's perfectly harmless. If you're not specifically invoking it, than it's probably down to an unwanted setting in NVRAM. See this article on resetting NVRAM if it continues to bother you.
