I realize that there are several other topics that talk about this problem, but so far none have really helped me. My goal is to have my iPod Touch be recognized as a camera so I can upload all my photos from my Saved Photos to my computer and finally clear up some much needed space on it. Please don't refer me to software that will allow me to move photos from my iTouch to my PC because either they are all only trial versions or they don't allow me to access the images from my Saved Photos album.
Currently my iPod Touch does not show up in My Computer. I'm running Windows XP. Checking my Device Manager for the driver, the only driver that comes up that relates to my iPod is called Apple Mobile Device USB Driver. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling that driver (and one I was able to get the iPod to show up in My Computer as a camera but when I clicked on it, it said that there were no pictures in the device [and I clearly do], and after uninstalling the driver again and reinstalling it the icon went away). I've read that maybe uninstalling iTunes and then reinstalling it might fix my problem, but I'm weary to uninstall it for fear that I might loose all my applications that I've synced into iTunes as well as my purchases and all the movies and things I've downloaded.
If anyone has any comments, suggestions, or further questions about my problem, PLEASE say so because this is very urgent and I need all the help I can get.

Also, I forgot to add that my iTouch is a 1st Gen I believe (I'm sorry, I got it for a Christmas gift, but I'm pretty sure it's a 1st Gen).

I'm new to the forums and I don't know whether this is the right place for a Windows user to post a problem. If not, disregard this thread.
My iPod Touch 4G doesn't always show up in My Computer making video/picture transfer impossible. So far I've gotten the following results:
1 - iPod Touch 4g shows up as a digital camera with a camera icon. It then can be accessed through My Computer but iTunes won't see it.
2 - iPod Touch 4g doesn't show up in My Computer at all. iTunes, however, see it just fine.
3 - iPod Touch 4g shows up in My Computer as iPod with a black iPod icon. It then can be accessed through My Computer and iTunes.
I've tried updating, reinstalling the driver and plugging the device into a different USB port but so far no luck. This is actually a pretty common problem for Windows users. This is the only device that I have such an issue with.
I'm on a fresh Windows install and it's up-to-date.

After updating iTunes to 10.2.1 my 4G Touch will not show up in Windows XP to charge or to sync. I have been reading this forum and following the multiple Apple help and troubleshooting steps with no luck. I can get Windows to recognize and charge the Touch as a camera but it will not update the driver for Apple Mobile Device. I have come to the conclusion it is an Apple software problem. Does anyone know where I can get the previous Apple Mobile Device driver for Windows XP? I would like to give that a try. It's really disappointing....

Upon uninstalling and re-installing all of the Apple software nothing has changed. I can see Apple Mobile Device Support in add/remove programs but when clicking on "repair" it cannot finish and says it encountered a fatal error and no changes have been made.
The error I get trying to install the driver in Device Manager says "I/O operation has been aborted because of either a thread exit or an application request".
Does anyone have any suggestions?

IPod Touch will NOT show up in My Computer only in iTunes.

It seems that ever since the 1.1.3 update, I have not been able to have my iPod show up in My Computer to be used as a flash drive. Normal flash drives work and my older video iPod works, but not the iPod Touch.
I have upgraded to the new iTunes and Quicktime. At first (after upgrading iTunes) I saw an icon saying found Apple iPod. But then nothing. I can see it in Device Manager, but not in My Computer or even under Disk Management. What the heck???? Can anyone help me?

As the others have said, there is no firmware version of the iPod touch that supports Disk Use.
However there are alternatives out there for a small fee.

I got my brother's old iPod touch and am trying to sync in music from my iTunes. However, when I connected it to my computer, it won't show up on my iTunes as a plugged in device. I reset this device's settings and even removed it from my brother's account. Nothing. I made this iPod touch a brand new device from inside out and my iTunes still won't take it as a new device. I recently bought a Windows 8 computer, when i tried connecting my Ipod touch the sound went off on the ipod saying it was connected but no message saying to sync. On the computer nothing was shown saying anything had connected. I have tried re-installing itunes as well as running it in a windows 7 compatibilty.

I have had this iMac in the genius bar TWICE in 24 hours...and of course they just did their "job" by just reinstalling the OS..I could have done that at home and saved me all that trouble...a corrupt file was picked up online and it messed with everything,not opening Safari(I do not like it anyway)...but now I am doing just the SIMPLE things to get back my computer & iTouch....and it is not uploading data I input on the iPod to the computer when syncing. I have had an Apple computer(s) for over 20 years...and this is the worse one ever, even thinking of switching brands, it's that BAD!

can you sync your purchases from the ipod to iTunes? Try to download a free app using the ipod and choose "Transfer purchases" in the File menu in iTunes when you have connected your device. Disable autosync first. Also make sure your iMac is authorized in the Store menu and you did a reset of the sync history in iSync/settings. Make sure to have at least one contact set up in your address book on your mac before you sync your contacts.

The cable that I'm using came with my 5th gen nano. The 6th gen Ipod shows that it's connected but the computer doesn't see it, so I don't think that it's the cable.
I did try this before when looking at the troubleshooting guide and nothing happens. It just resets and then the Ipod screen tells me that it's connected to the computer. It still is unseen by Itunes and no where to be found in my computer.
I don't have another computer to plug it into at the moment but I may be able to visit a friend that owns a decent PC in a few days. If that doesn't work out I will be getting a new lap top in a week and I'm hoping that it will work on that, but it won't be a Mac. So, let's say it works when I plug it into one of these computers, should I reset my Ipod from there or is there something else I should do?

I have tried plugging in my external hard drive a few times in the last week and when I do, nothing shows up on my computer. The light on the ext hard drive light up like something is happening, but it doesnt pop up on my mac like usual. I recently had some work done on my mac for liquid damage, but have used my ext hard drive since and it worked fine. It's just stopped in the last couple weeks. Does anyone have any suggestions?

If it's port powered, get a powered USB hub, Mac's can turn off USB if it's drawing too much power.

This drive is not formatted NTFS by any chance? Perhaps your NTFS software needs a update?
Does it show up in Disk Utility? Can you repair it?
Search online for "unmounting external drive Mac" and hopefully you can find something. I need to go to bed now, sorry.

Unplugit then replug it and that should work. If not unplug your iPod , on your computer right click my computer>manage>Services>iPod service>right click stop service> Then click restart service.
Pug your iPod back in, and that should fix it.
