I just bought a brand new macbook pro with retina one week ago and have used it twice. I noticed that I now have a scratch on the screen a small one yet a scratch. You can't feel it yet you can see a tiny black dot then what appears to be a small scratch.

My brand New Macbook Pro with Retina Display is slow.
Just today I got a brand new Macbook Pro with the Retina Display. Last week I got the same one except the base model ($1300). Today I decided I wanted a much faster one with better storage so I decided to exchange it for the higher end model ($1500) with 8gb ram and 256gb ssd. When I went to speedtest.net, the results were really dissappointing. I got 65 ping, 15mbps for download speed, and 2mbps for upload speed. My previous new Macbook got a 13 ping, 20 mbps for download speed, and 6 mbps for upload speed. I've restarted my computer many times but got the same results (even with different browsers). Does anybody know why is this?

It's frustrating when laying out your hard earned cash on technology to find out that it just doesn't fix your issues. Fortunately it sounds to me that your issue is your network and/or internet service provider. The "speedtest" only checks your connectivity to various servers on the internet, and doesn't really test out your laptop.
For a hardware(laptop/desktop) test I recommend geekbench which can be found at http://www.primatelabs.com/geekbench/ the tools here will test your machines processor and give you an idea of your hardwares speed.
To remedy your problem I would first check your wireless router (I am assuming your laptop connects to the internet wirelessly) and see if it is atleast N capable. I see routers all the time that are B/G that get old and just can't deliver the speed that new and added network devices and websites require to function frictionless. If your router is an N or better yet an AC, then we'd need to look at your modem or your service provider. If you have ATT DSL, there have been reports, somewhat confirmed, that they are dialing down things on the DSL side in order to persuade their customers to move to Uverse, but you didn't hear that from me
If your router is ok, and the modem too take your laptop and sit it relatively close to your wireless router/access point and run the speedtest again. It could be that some new piece of furniture, or maybe even cordless phone is blocking the wireless signal to where you use your laptop most.

Everytime I try and shut down my MacBook, it says "the application mail canceled shut down, to try again, quit mail and choose Apple menu > shut down". I can't quit mail & can't even get back into my mail? Please help!

I have just opened my brand new Macbook Pro and I'm a first time mac user. I have tried to download flash to enable me to watch youtube clips, but on trying to download it, it says I need to close Safari but after doing so, it still won't respond. Any tips? Help?
Actually you need to quit Safari which is different from closing. With Safari open go the menu bar for Safari/Quit Safari.

i can no longer shoot directly into phaseone software - neihter version 6 or 7 - since i use my new macbook pro with retina display. pictures are not transfered from the camera into captureone. anyone else with this problem? any solutions?

Go to Apple menu -> System Preferences -> Keyboard and Mouse -> Mouse
And edit your mouse settings to do what you want it to do.

Third, from my understanding, it would appear you are concerned about the noise the hard drive makes when it falls asleep? Why not put your machine in screen saver mode instead? Apple menu -> System Preferences -> Energy Saver turn off all Energy Saver settings, or set them to run Never.
Fourth, if your machine was purchased just a few days ago, you may still be able to get an exchange from the store, quicker than you can get a repair done. You may want to look into that possibility.
Fifth, it does appear you found the Logic forum. I would persist in asking there how to solve your technical issue with Logic regarding the audio. It may be you don't have to do anything special to the hard drive. Remember audio can be transmitted by wire, avoiding ambient sounds.

I know many have this issue but i can't find a solution to the problem. i get message saying insuffisiant disk space in the volume iPhoto library and i have plenty of space available. i have the new macbook pro with retina display. i have never seen this message before and i have 2 other macbooks and have had many other also. i am assuming this is a problem with the new macbook retina. does anyone know the exact fix to this issue? i have seen many sugestions to try to fix this issue but none have solved the issue for anyone that i can find in the Apple Support Community. thank for looking into this in advance.
******A true apple fan********Actually your suggestions are the ones that i have tried. i have seen that you have tried to help others with this issue and the only one that i could find that said they found the problem said that it was an ilife update issue and it fixed it and i have no available updates. i know it has to do with something in photo stream because it happens when i create a new library and it is loading the photos but i get the message before i reach the maximum 1000 photos. so i've tried updating, new library(first backing up photos and then deleting them from iPhoto), reinstalling OSX many times, running disc utilities. I called Apple the first day i had this issue and i was the first person to call them for support with the retina display and i actually had it escalated to a senior advisor and we thought we fixed the problem but we did not. i am pretty fluent in dealing with troubleshooting these type of issues and this is the first time i'm reaching out to the community. i figured now that the retina has been out some time now that there would be an obvious answer to this issue. thanks for the quick reply.

Can't download Mavericks on brand new Macbook Pro 13 Retina
I've got a brand new Macbook Pro 13 Retina, late 2013. So I meet all needed spec's.
Then trying to donload using AppStore I get the message:
We could not complete your purchase
OS X Mavericks cannot be installed on this computer.

I believe that the new rMBPs have their own special build number of 13A2093.
Opening About this Mac from the Apple menu and clicking on the Version 10.9, will reveal you current build number.
So the version that you have installed is newer than the current version that is avaliable to download from the App Store. That is why you will be getting the error mesage, as you cannot install a build that is older than the computer came with.
Once 10.9.1 is released, it will have a build number beginning with 13B. You will be able to download this version to your rMBP from the Purchases tab if you wish and make into the USB installer as it will bring you in line with the standard release that everyone else has.
Until then, you will only be able to use the Internet Recovery method.

I can't watch YouTube videos on my brand new MacBook Pro with Lion. It says I need to download Adobe Flash Player but that won't install. Help!
The same thing happens to me, Safari asks me to update the Adobe FlasPlayer, I download, start the installation process, ask me my username and password in order to install, then see a window where I choose if I want to always install the updates , or ask first, or not inslate updates, and at this point it is not progress, I can not cancel the process, I turn off and turn on my machine.
What can I do ..??

Configure New TM on a New Macbook pro with retina display Issue
I have bought a new New Macbook pro with retina display laptop (Lion moutain OS)and a new TM (2TB).
I have an internet router with wireless connect.
I plugged TM to the router with an ethernet cable.
Connect my TM to my macbook with an ethernet cable.(at this point I still cannot see TM on my Mac)
then I choose Time capsule from WiFi as shown below:
Then the airport utility (version 6.1) opened and start configuring TM but it gives an expected error when it is starting to join the TM!!!!
I have reset the TM several time but with no hope.
PS: I can configure the same TM on a normal laptop with windows 7 installed and Airport utility 5.6

Help please.Time Capsule .. TC is the hardware box you bought.. Time Machine is the software you use in the Mac computer.. so what you generally refer to as TM is really TC.. !!

That is great.. you do not need to setup the Time Capsule at all then. It is already setup.. forget using 6.1 utility.. it is useless toy version.
Just use it.. open Time Machine and see if you can connect to the TC drive to do backup.. and to the wireless.

You are trying to connect with both wireless and ethernet at once.. This can mess things up. choose wireless or ethernet.. not both.
If you keep running into issues.. reset the TC.. I know yet again.
Set it up using SMB names.. for both the TC itself and wireless.
Then lock the wireless channel for 2.4ghz.. use channel 1, 6, or 11 (13 in europe) and see how it goes. -
When trying to update getting (error surle error domain error-1100). It started yesterday, any help would be great. I have Mountain Lion 10.8.1 on a new macbook pro with retina display.
There are many people suffering from this problem right now (including me). It appears to be a server issue. Just wait and try checking for updates again tomorrow.
Some things I have heard indicate that this may be a regional problem, though what parts of the world are affected I don't know yet. A few people have been helped by deleting the following preference file (paste the path into the Go -> Go to Folder window in the Finder to locate it), though most have not:
~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate.plist
Note that if you are trying to download iTunes 10.7, that can be found here:

Also, note that there is no reason to be anxious to get it, as the only thing added in iTunes 10.7 is compatibility with iOS 6, which will not be available until the 19th, and the new iPhone, which will not be available until later as well. Installing Windows XP on a new MacBook Pro with Retina Display.
I just purchased a new MacBook Pro with Retina display and need to install Windows XP on it so that I may run 3 Windows programs. I have watched a few videos on the internet on how to do this through Boot Camp Assistant, and it says at one point to use the driver CD from Mac to install the drivers. I did not get any CD's with my new MacBook Pro. I also saw on some of these boards that said Boot Camp does not support Windows XP. The people at the Apple store said it can run Windows XP, so I have ordered an original version.
Question 1. Does my MacBook Pro with Retina Display running OS X version 10.8.3 able to run Windows XP?
Question 2. How do I install the drivers?Would this work? And also, what is the VM I need? Where do I get it?
