I just bought a Canon fx100.

I'm using iMovie to edit footage. How do I convert the video files from my new camera,  MXF to .mov
I found a free trial of a converter called Pavtube but it takes ages and the footage isn't very clear, as well as the program being difficult to use.
I am wondering about a card reader. Would that read my MXP files and convert to .mov? Does anyone know or have any other suggestions on how to manage my video files for use with either iMovie or Adobe Premiere or FXE?

All remote flashes need a way to communicate with the camera.  They can be wired or wireless.  The wireless system can be optical or radio.
The main thing is that there is nothing built into the 6D to control a flash... so you need something to do that job.
The 430EX II can be triggered via optical signal as a remote "slave" flash (the 430EX II cannot function as a "master" (aka "commander") mode.)
The Canon method to control the 430EX II is to use either:
a)  A "Speedlite Transmitter ST-E2"
b)  Another speedlite capable of working in "master" mode (and there's a long list... the 600EX / 600EX-RT, the 580EX II, and oddly enough the 90EX is actually capable of performing as a "master").
I would recommend either the 600EX-RT (which would lay the foundation for additional 600EX-RT units in the future which would give you radio triggering) or find a 580EX II.  I would probably pass on the 90EX and favor an ST-E2 if _all_ you want is a way to trigger the remote flash and don't actually want a flash.  The 90EX isn't very powerful so it's not especially suitable as a stand-alone flash unless you're just using it as a "fill" flash for close subjects.)
There are also lots of 3rd party triggers but the vast majority of these wont let you use E-TTL (they'd be 'manual' only) and the units that support E-TTL will be as expensive as just buying a high-end flash that work as a commander.

  • I just bought a Canon MG5422 It prints fine with the wire but wireless it stays offline.

I just bought a Canon MG5422. It works fine by wire but wireless it stays offline. It appears to find the access point. The printer screen shows me my router name and says it's active. Printer still says offline on the computer. When I try to detect the printer it never does. Where so I go from here? Thanks.

    Hi CarlHuskey
As an additional step we can try, I recommend checking if the printer is set "Offline".
Click the start icon, then click Devices and Printers.
Right-Click the printer's icon and select See what's printing in the dropdown menu.
In the next screen click Printer in the menu bar. If Use Printer Offline has a check mark to the left of it, click Use Printer Offline to remove the check. The printer will now be used online.
If you are still unable to print, uninstall the printer completely and then reinstall.  This will ensure that the drivers and port for your printer are properly configured on the system.
Please feel free to Contact Us for additional troubleshooting if these steps don't work.

  • I just bought the canon 5d mark iii and my photoshop elements 10 wont read my raw files. I want to buy photoshop elements 13...is this compatible with my new camera?

I just bought the canon 5d mark iii and my photoshop elements 10 won't read my raw files. I want to buy photoshop elements 13 but want to make sure my camera is compatible with it first. Thank you for your help!

Photoshop elements 10 should be able to open those files if you update to camera raw 6.7
Which operating system are you using?
    windows
Adobe - Photoshop Elements : For Windows : Camera Raw 6.7 update for Elements 10
    mac
Adobe - Photoshop Elements : For Macintosh : Camera Raw 6.7 update for Elements 10
Also, photoshop elements 13 will open those files as well.

Just bought a canon rebel t2i as a gift, not out of box yet.  Called apple first and they said camera was compatible with imovie 11.  reading comments that users are having difficulty with imovie reading files from rebel.  any comments.

I don't see the camera listed for any version of iMovie:
    http://help.apple.com/imovie/cameras/en/index.html?lang=en_US
That means that any videos you shoot will have to be imported into iPhoto and then moved to iMovie.

  • I just bought a Canon PowerShot A2400 IS Digital Camera and its not showing up in OS X Lion when connect by USB

Can someone please help with this. Thanks. I have tried to find drivers but none are availble on the Canon site.

Do you have iPhoto installed? If you do, you can set it to recognize the camera. iPhoto / Preferences / General
This is what it looks like in OS 10.8.2. The key is the line "Connecting camera opens:" There may be other Applications listed as well, depending on what is installed.
To my knowledge this works with any camera.

The download is a simple download, but if you put it in the wrong file, you can REALLY mess up your CS4 capabilites. which is why I specifically wanted to help you and walk you thru it step by step.
I hope I didn't leave anything out. Like I said, easier to tell someone on the phone so I can hear what it is you are looking at on your system so I can walk u thru it  is all.

  • Hi I would be grateful if someone can help me, I have just bought a canon wireless printer, I only have an iPad so I can not install the cd that comes with the new printer yet it says it is compatible. How do I get it working I have a pay as you go 3G sim

I do not use the Internet using wifi I use 3G mobile broadband and if I do need wifi it tells me I have to pay for it, but I can not work out how to install or connect my iPad with my new printer if there is not a cd slot or USB port. I only have an iPad no computer so how on earth do I use my printer with it if it I can't install the printer cd. I though I would be able to use Bluetooth and it would pick it up automatically but I am really confused now and don't know what to do please help.

The iPad uses AirPrint technology to print to a printer. Check this Apple support page to see if your printer is listed as being AirPrint compatible.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4356
If your printer works with AirPrint you will need a Wi-Fi network in order to connect. That Wi-Fi network does not need to be connected to the Internet. As James Ward4 says, you'll need a Wi-Fi router to set up your network. Most routers require that a computer be used during the setup process. Perhaps you could use someone's computer to do the setup if you do not had one yourself. Once the router is set up you should be able to print.

  • Just bought a canon Pixma mx892 printer.

It prints very dark - much more dark than the picture on my display. I'm burning through a lot of ink and premium photo paper trying tomake the adjustments necessary. I'm using Photoshop CS5 and I'd really love to be able to calibrate the printer to match my iMac.
    any suggestions?
    thank you

Do you get any print dialog?
There might be stuff there like Econo Print or such that will allow you to modify the printing profile.

  • Has any body tried using canon printer driver with Mac OS X v10.7. I just bought a new printer only finding out that I cannot use it. Any suggestions. Thanks

I just bought a canon pixma iX6540 printer only to find out that the driver is not supported. I am using Mac OS X v10.7. Can someone help please. Thanks

Although it mentions OS 10.6 on the link, have you tried downloading the latest drivers - if you haven't already - from the Apple Support site, maybe they'll work:

  • Just bought a new Canon Vixia HF R300.  It looks like I have basically two recording modes--either AVCHD or MP4.  I have a year old Mac Mini on Lion with increased ram.  I edit on iMovie and upload to You Tube.  Which recording mode would be best?

    Hi...
I just bought a Canon Vixia HF R300 camcorder.  It looks like it gives me a choice of two recording modes AVCHD or MP4.  I will be uploading onto a year old Mac Mini with the Lion Operating system and increased ram.   I will be editing in iMovie '11 then uploading to You Tube.  Which recording mode should I use?  Obviously I'd like to get the best quality but I also want it to show well on You Tube.   What do you think?  Thanks for the help.  Bill

    Hi
What program can you use to convert AVCHD to a DVD format?
Share to File (in iMovie) - AND AS 480p - NOT Higher as DownScaling will be done badly.
Use this file in iDVD or Roxio Toast™ or what DVD Authoring program You've got.
To make a VIDEO-DVD You must use a DVD Authoring program - to get the right compression format AND Structure - It is a MUST.
There are free alternatives - but resulting DVD hasve been far from what quality iDVD (and Toast™) will deliver.
To get best possibly DVD - also this counts.
    - DVD brand used - I only Verbatim
    - DVD type used - I only DVD-R Single layer (4.7Gb)
(DVD+R works for many and DVD-R/W usually don't work OK and Double Layer also are a problem to it self)
    - BURN SPEED - I set this as low possibly (usually x2)
    - Free Space on Start-Up Hard Disk - MATTERS - I never go less than 25Gb
    Good Luck
    Yours Bengt W

  • Just Bought A HV20

I just bought a Canon HV20 after reading many reviews, and based on the price. I got it from B&H with a kit including an extended warranty, lens kit, extra battery, wide angle adapter (0.37x) along with a firewire cable (evidently not included with the camera).
I am going to start by using iMovie HD. I have read many posts about how iLife 8 is a broken product, and in particular iMovie has had features removed.
My basic philosophy right now is get the camera (its still in the mail), and see how excited I am about it, and work with iMovie HD until I feel limited (I am predicting that will be soon), and then upgrade to FCS 2.0 when I feel I have mastered the camera, gotten some good ideas together for films, and can afford the software.
I am posting to inquire about good HD resources. In particular a good user forum (this appears to be about my speed currently), and literature. I found a couple of books on Amazon that looked like they had many favorable reviews. I am interested in lighting, motion, and some insight into filming and editing. I am probably an advanced beginner as far as video goes; I have shot in miniDV and put together several short movies using iMovie and made a few DVDs with iDVD.
    Thanks
    Albion

    Hi Albion:
I just filmed a cross country travel video in HD. We used a very expensive Panasonic pro camera and the HV 20. Well, after 33 hours of film had been shot guess how much was shot on each camera?
6 hours on the big "pro"camera, and 27 on the HV 20. Why? Portability, set up and ease of use.
Personally, as a non pro, I would not plan on a lengthly adjustment period. When I hooked it up to a 720i HD Sony TV. folks in the room (pro videographers) gasped and the images.
I have not yet begun the editing process, so I can't help you with that - one bit of advice, DO NOT buy anything but "PRO" rated tapes, I think you can skip on HD rated tapes though.
Good luck, and shoot WAY more tape than you think you'll need, and HAVE FUN!

  • PS CS5 64 bit, just bought a new Canon 70D I need a new camera raw

OK, I'm really confused, I have PS CS5 64 bit, just bought a new Canon 70D I need a new camera raw for this camera, I thought 8.2 was available for CS5 apparently not. Help!

Adobe only updates its current versions of products with new camera support. PS-CS6 and PS-CC were the current versions of Photoshop when the 70D came out so only those two versions of Photoshop will receive the new updated camera raw plug-in.
You can always used the DNG Converter 8.2 (currently available in pre-release status at Adobe Labs) to convert newer camera raw files to work with obsolete versions of the camera raw plug-in, paying special attention to the DNGC compatibility options to may sure you have them set old enough for your CS5-vintage plug-in.
