I like the Cloud

I've been using Adobe software since 1995.  I'm among the 80% who really enjoys having access to more software today than I ever had before under the old perpetual licenses.
Do I use all of the Cloud software and services?  No, of course not.  But I am using much more than my heretofore core list of products.   Were it not for the Cloud, I probably never would have tried the others.
In the past, if a client sent me a file from the latest version of product X, I had no way to open it unless I ran out and purchased an upgrade.  With the Cloud, I no longer have this lingering problem.  The latest product X is always just a few clicks away.
Is the Cloud perfect?  No.  As with anything new and as revolutionary as this, it has some kinks to work out.  But I'm confident Adobe is taking necessary steps to ensure a good user experience for everyone.
Change is hard.  There are always going to be a few unhappy people who resist it on general principal.  Initially, I was very skeptical of the Cloud, too.  I didn't think the subscription model fit my business.  But after a year, I'm very happy to report that the Cloud vs Perpetual Licenses is actually a much better deal for me.   I am more productive, competitive and have a much bigger toolbox at an affordable monthly price.
The pundits argue that there is no "exit strategy."  My exit strategy is simply this.  I'm going to work until I die.  It's an economic fact of life these days.  80 is the new 50.  70 is the new 40.  And if I can't afford a $50/month professional subscription fee, chances are I'm not long for this world anyway, so who cares...
In summary, my overall experience with the Cloud  has been a good one.  If anybody is still on the fence about this, don't take my word for it.  Sign-up for a 30-day trial and test it for yourself.   I think you'll be as pleasantly surprised as I was.

It is nice to see that some users are enjoying the cloud experience and I do genuinely see how it can benifit users.  The problem is that adobe has removed freedom of choice... the choice to buy or to rent. In legalese perpetual license or rental.
Adobe validates this move by offering Cloud users an "all you eat buffet" of applications to use.. and while this seems wonderful and fluffy it really just a bait and switch tactic. Take away the right to own with a nice big basket of rentals. Initially this will see a huge surge in Adobes revenue but eventually growth will slow down and in order to grow you will find products suddenely being placed into a new seperate cloud (perhaps called Creative Cloud Pro) that will require additional expense. Prices will go up and before you know it, you are paying double if not triple of what you are paying now.
Adobe cannot be trusted when it comes to pricing.. look around the world and the difference in pricing really raises eyebrows.. US $49 per month UK $72, Germany $80... and a recent NZ post shows the cloud costing twice the price.  you could argue that you have to take into consideration operating costs in each country.. Well if this is truly a cloud ..it shouldnt matter on where you are..a high speed connection is all you need.
And we all know by now that if you dont pay that monthly bil your software turns off... if you work till you die no problem... but what happens if someone steals your identity? What happens if your Internet goes down? What happens when the cloud gets hacked or if it goes down?  Electronic arts recently felt the wrath of hackers and theirs servers went haywire for over a week. Annoying for gamers but can you imagine not being able to operate your business? Can you imagine explaing to your client "Cant deliver that poster to the printers for your big opening as adobe is down" these are serious concerns..Is adobe liable in such a scenario? A quick dash over to the EULA and I think you'll find they have legalistically washed their hands of it.. You as a business owner are certainly liable..and its you losing clients not them. I would love all my customers to pay me a subscription fee for a year.. the reason they dont is because as a small business in a bad economy it keeps me on my toes.. it keeps me lean hungry and customer aware.. Owning software on your own machine doesnt stop this from happening but it sure as hell reduces the chance of it happening.
I own my software and when I install software my computer goes online and validates the license..with the new cloud you essentially do the same thing..install the software but instead of a one time license check you may be required to go online once a month and have it revalidated.. so same software, both validated online... so why cant we own again? we cant own becauses owners only upgrade when the see the need to... Adobe has to keep impressing us with new features to keep us coming back... under the cloud the motivation switches... sure un-subscribe adobe says...but good look with that old project that needs an update.
Adobe argues that with the new cloud users can be pushed new featues instantly....and patches and bugs can be attended to far quicker... but bugs and patches could be download with previous versions so there is no real improvement here.. as for new features adobe could have said "hey we have a new function $50 and its yours to keep" the user could have looked at it and said ..humm yeah could use that sure... good for the consumer and good for adobe.
My frustration with Adobe has started to make me digress here.. the reality is the product is pretty much the same but the licence has now change... we have gone from owner to tenant.. If you wish to be Adobe's tenant and that business model works for you then wonderful. but if owning is a better model for you then that should also be an option.. Some people need to own.. users in smaller towns or countries that have limited or no internet access are now excluded from Adobe's software.. you may say that is a minority... but the reality is that it is a far bigger number than you think.  Some countries dont even have an option for the cloud so owning is there only option..
I do hope you have not felt flamed by this post ..(it is a little rant) it really was not my intent. I really understand your side and I hope you see mine

I need help. I am not good with technology. I upgraded phone today to 5 s I am missing notes and photos  it looks like the cloud address is not correct. Any suggestions

Have you forgotten your password? - if so, you have a problem if the email address has gone dead.
If you know your password, go to the iTunes Store, click on Account. log in and you can change the associated email address.
If you don't know your password, and have no email address, you are going to have problems because it's difficult to see how Apple are going to identify you as the authorised owner of the account. Contact iTunes Support: go to http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/ - click on 'Other iTunes Store Features' in the list and then on 'Podcasts'. You will see a link to either 'Express Lane', which will guide you eventually to some contact options, or you may see a link to email them.

Thx - the videos are on my Ipad - that is the problem - they are taking up all the storage and there is no room for anything else. Is there any place I can store them so that I can access them from time to time, but not have they use up all the space on the IPad? Sounds like the cloud is out...

  • Why can't Adobe offer Premiere Pro (and its other software) as a perpetual licence and via the cloud

It seems clear to me some like the cloud and others don't. Why? Customers have different requirements. Each approach offers attractions to different people. A company ignores its customers requirements at its peril. You just have to remember VHS vs BetaMax - BetaMax was far superior but it is no more. Maybe not a great comparison but the point is even great products fail. By offering both Adobe would secure a wider and happier customer base.

    Very true
I am in the UK, we have HD TVchannels but still a mass of SD ones.
4k or whatever will be a long time coming and it will be on satelite first but that is very far off
That said my camcorders/DSLR's all handle AVCHD HD so no expense there for qute a while
My PC is fast enough and I have three cloned boot drives so apart from upgrades due to MOBO/CPU failures no expense likely here
So with all the above I reckon that as long as I do not have any problems that require re-installing the Adobe software then I am good for the next 10 years
10 years of not buying Adobe products
10 years of updating Edius, Hitfilm, or even subscribing to Lightworks (10 years at $60 per year, you do the math)
That is just me not buying
Oh to have so much money, I may even go to the F1 GP next year with all I will save unless they make that subscription only

  • I have songs that have been purchased and they show up in my I tunes but the are not showing up bold like all other songs in my library, they will not let me download from the cloud and will not load onto my ipod.

I have a handfull of songs in my library that are not showing up bold like the other songs. When I click the icon to download from the cloud nothing happens and they will not load onto my ipod. When I look for them in the purchased area they show up as purchased and downloaded.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
So far as I am aware, books haven't been available for 6 years, so I'm wondering if you mean audiobooks.
Audiobooks are not currently part of the content that can be re-downloaded.

  • Can I backup two devices (with different documents) to one iCloud account?  For example: iPad and iPhone, not everything is synced between the two, but I would like to backup each (seperately in the cloud), is this possible?

    Hello Apple Community,
Can I backup two devices (with different documents) to one iCloud account?
For example: iPad Air and iPhone 5, not everything is synced between the two, but I would like to backup each (seperately in the cloud).  Is this possible?
This way when I change from an old ipad to a new, I can restore with the ipad backup, and when I change from an old iphone to a new, I can restore from the
    iphone backup.
    Thank you in advance!

Terminology check here. Do you really mean a "CD"?  There's a difference in Cloud behavior between content from a physical CD you ripped (which only has Cloud content if you have iTunes Match) and an "album" you bought from the iTunes Store.
    Read references for Home Sharing.
iTunes: How to share music and video - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2688 - about Music Sharing and Home Sharing
Home Sharing Support page - http://www.apple.com/support/homesharing/
iOS: Setting up Home Sharing on your device - http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4557 - "With Home Sharing in iOS 4.3 or later, you can stream your entire iTunes library over your home Wi-Fi network from your Mac or PC right to your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch."
The above can get pretty complicated.  You are probably best off by syncing both devices to a single library and/or updating the libraries on both computers to have the same content.

  • HT5085 I would like to upload my music library from my PC to the Cloud through iTunes Match.  I also will be purchasing a Mac in the near future and would like to download some of that music from iCloud to my Mac.  Will I have compatability problems?

I just got iTunes Match and would like to know if downloading my songs from the cloud uses cellular data if I am not able to use wifi?

    Hi,
Yes, it will use cellular data. If you know that you are going to out of wifi range, you can predownload some music whilst you have a wifi connection.

  • I have downloaded all my music from the cloud to my new iPhone and created playlists so I can listen to it when not it wifi like when on a plane. If I turn on iTunes Match will I still have this music still downloaded?

I have downloaded all my music from the cloud to my new iPhone and created playlists so I can listen to it when not it wifi like when on a plane. If I turn on iTunes Match will I still have this music still downloaded? The online information suggests all my music will be replaced. Will I have to download it again??

What you have on your computer is your iTunes library, not an iTunes "account."  The account that is related to iTunes is your Apple ID, which you use to sign in to the iTunes Store and make purchases.  It is also used with iCloud.  iPods (that are not iPod touch) are associated with your iTunes library, not to your Apple ID.
So, I think you probably just need to set up (or update) automatic syncing for the iPod.  If it's not set up to sync those new songs, iTunes still syncs the iPod, but it syncs nothing
In iTunes, if the sidebar (along left side of iTunes window) is hidden, from the menu bar, under View, select Show Sidebar.  In the sidebar, the iPod appears under DEVICES, when it is connected.
Select the iPod in iTunes.  There is a row of buttons, starting with Summary.  Click on Music next to Summary.  This is the iPod's Music screen, where you tell iTunes how to sync songs to the iPod.
Check the box for Sync Music (if it's not already checked).  If your iTunes music library fits completely on the iPod, you can choose to sync Entire music library.  Otherwise, you can choose to sync Selected playlists, artists, albums, and genres.  On the lists below, checkmark the playlists, artists, albums, and/or genres that you want on the iPod.  When you click Apply, the songs from your selection sync to the iPod.
One convenient way to set this up (if you can't sync the entire iTunes music library) is to create a new playlist in your iTunes library.  Name it "iPod Songs" (or whatever you want).  Put ALL songs that you want on the iPod on this playlist, including those new songs.  Back on the iPod's Music screen in iTunes, select this playlist under Playlists.  Going forward, to update songs on the iPod, just update that playlist in your iTunes library (add/remove songs).  The next time you connect the iPod (or click the Sync button), iTunes automatically syncs the same changes to the iPod.

I am planning a long vacation and taking my laptop but it is my home computer that my new ipad and ipod touch are synced too. I know i can backup to the cloud over wifi but how can i do things like delete photo albums instead of having to manually delete pictures one by one on the Ipad. Is there any way also to add my pictures to the ipad other than through email. i am assuming that i can't just install itunes on the laptop and sync to that. I have been told that i always have to sync to my original synced home computer for that.

I want to give my old iPhone 4 to my grandson to use like an iPod Touch. Wifi only. How do I deactivate my info..so he can buy his own apps. and not have the cloud pushing all of my data to my old phone?
Just turning off Cloud will not prevent him from turning it back on.
Rignt now, if he uses the App store, iTunes thinks it's talking to me.

First, turn off iMessage, FaceTime & delete the iCloud account, while your sim is still in the phone. Then: Settings>General>Reset>Erase All Content & Settings. Give it to your grandson & he gat then set it up as he wants.
Important your turn iMessage & FaceTime off to disassociate the phone from your Apple ID. Apple "claims" to have fixed this with iOS 6.0, but until I can absolutely confirm such, I still recommend you turn all of that stuff off first.

How can I get my songs out of the cloud?  Seems like there are issues, any new purchased songs are not syncing with Ipod 3rd generations.

Do you have the original installation disc(s) that shipped with your MacBook? You're just going to have to start from scratch - as I doubt that you can recover any files without paying a fortune. Insert the installations disc, reformat your hard drive and then install the OS that came with your computer. Continue updating to 10.6.8 and then redownload and reinstall Mountain Lion again.
That's really the only way you're going to get your machine up and running again. I would also consider buying an inexpensive external drive to use as a backup in case your brother decides to do something stupid again.

LP content can only be downloaded on a computer's iTunes (or 1st gen Apple TV), you can't download them on an iOS device - and I haven't seen anything that say it will change in iOS 8. If you don't have a computer then at the moment you won't be able to download/view LP content
    About LP : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3823
After you buy an album with iTunes LP on an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, the album's songs will download directly to the device. The iTunes LP will download to iTunes on your computer when you choose Store > Check for Available Downloads.
