As the title question states, I lost a really important file with iText Express. I've been using iText Express for a year or two now because it's just the one application I downloaded for writing and saving documents. I was working on one for a few months and randomly one day last month, when I went to open it to resume editing my work, the file was gone! I searched my whole laptop and trash. Then one day, a "Recovered Files" folder popped up in the area my file used to be, so I assumed that was the file I lost being recovered and I felt relieved. But when I opened the folder, the document inside was a "SoftwareMap" document with a bunch of coding written in it. I don't understand what I'm supposed to do with that or how it's going to help me recover my file?!? I lost SO much work!!! If anyone has ANY idea what to do, how this happened, or if the coding is supposed to help me recover my file, PLEASE help!!!
No, I already tried looking at that. The file that recovered was not in the trash, it appeared in my documents folder. I opened it up and inside was an iText Express document with coding. Then inside of there, was and then and this "SoftwareMap" document contained a bunch of coding and symbols and words.

personally, in addition to TM backups to my TC, i use a couple of external firewire drives, each partitioned in two, and bootably clone my Mac's startup disks to those on a weekly basis.
week 1 / drive X = MBP to partition A and Mini to partition B
week 2 / drive Y = MBP to partition C and Mini to partition D
week 3 and so forth = start over.
using Carbon Copy Cloner or SuperDuper, you could even incrementally clone your internal drives, which saves a lot of time.

my photos won't "load" - it has worked fine for at least two years, but suddenly now when I plug in the chip, iPhoto opens up as usual, but the window just says "loading photos", and the little wheel keeps on spinning - can anyone help me?? What version of iPhoto? Assuming 09 or later:
Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

When using Firefox I can no long get the two finger enlargement to work on my Apple. The same site will enlarge using Safari, so I assume it has to do with Firefox

My iMac is able to use my wireless internet from my airport extreme, however, no other devices(iphone, ipod) will connect. The network shows up, but the indicator just spins without ever joining.
I have tried resetting my airport extreme, creating a new network, etc nothing seems to work.I have a feeling you may be stuck in bridge mode there...

I have an 06' macbook and I just bought an 07' macbook.. The 06' has os x 10.6 but the 07' has 10.5.. I no longer have the disk for snow leopard. Is there ANY way to get snow leopard from the old computer to the other without having to buy it again?
Technical issues aside, there's still a legal issue.
Neither 2006 nor 2007 MacBooks shipped with Snow Leopard 'factory' installed. OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard became available in September 2009. So you purchased and installed a Snow Leopard upgrade disc on the 2007 system at some point.
If your Snow Leopard upgrade was a single-user copy, then legally, you need to purchase another one for the second computer. If your Snow Leopard upgrade was a Family Pack 5-user license, then you're good to go.

I am trying to use motion tracking to have text follow a section of the background.The text box follows the motion path, but the text just sits there. What am I doing wrong?
Motion basically looks at the the source footage and it's timing (in the timing section of the Inspector) when analyzing for tracking. Filters are basically ignored by the tracker. Retiming actions, like time re-mapping, or retiming behaviors that are applied before the tracker should be used by the tracker. Did you change the timing after doing the tracking? If so this would also require you to re-track the shot. Understanding that you found a workaround, describing the effects you applied would help to explain why you ran into problems.

Ok so I have tried evey combination of restarts. It tries to boot up, the start up bar appears on screen, but the computer just goes completely after the bar is a third of the way across. Is is doomed?
Have you tried booting into the Recovery HD and running Disk Utility to see if anything needs fixing on the HD. Restart holding down Command+r and once it hopefully boots select Disk Utility>Repair Disk. If anything gets fixed click on repair disk again until you get a clean pass. Try restarting as normal from the Apple menu once done.
Do you have backup to restore from if it proves to be the Mac has a hardware fault? -
