I love the Java community.

Just a statement really.
So far I have looked over alot of threads and I have yet to see a thread without at least one nice and non, aggravated response.
This says alot about all of you, and I want to thank you all.
It is just nice to see information given and recieved so well.
In alot of forums for graphics packages and especially 3-d apps I go to, people are never this nice and forth coming with info and tips. There seems to be alot more , " I had to learn it the hard way so you might as well" mentality in those forums.
Maybe its just the type of traffic the webistes that host the forums attract but I have gotten so used to it , it is just refreshing and rehabilitating to see this much , well ,coolness.
Thanks.

  • Help! How to get the Java Communication Package work in JDK1.3.1?

    I downloaded a Java Communications API Win32 ver 2.0 from java.sun.com, and try to use it to do some programming to communication ports with JDK1.3.1.
    I failed. When I tested with the samples (BlackBox, SimpleRead) coming with the javax.comm. It showed "no serial port found", something like that. I check the installation Instructions of the comm. package, it only described the installation under JDK1.1 and the pre-release version of JDK1.2. (and the installation of the same package in JDK1.1 and JDK1.2 are totally different.)I tried the specification with my JDK1.3, but it doesn't work.
    Who knows how to install the Javax.comm package in JDK1.3.1? Please let me know as soon as possible. Thanks a lot.

    This comes straight out of the FAQ that you got with your download:
    Q: My application does not find any ports when it enumerates available ports.
    Q: BlackBox gives me a message that says "No serial ports found!"
    A: In order for the Java communications API to find ports the file
    javax.comm.properties must be in the correct place. The preferred location
    is in <jdk>/lib. See the installation instructions for alternate locations
    and further information.
    Installation is very simple. Comm is a standard extension, so copy comm.jar to %JAVA_HOME%\jre\lib\ext
    This is all in the docs....

  • Newbie question on the Java communications API

    Hi All,
    I found the javax.comm extension package that lets me listen to the serial port of the PC, but am unsure as to how to use it. Well, I've tried running the SimpleRead.java program and I get an error message that says the package is missing in the import (which I assume means that I havent downloaded it and added it to one of the folders in my Java directory). Where can I find the package from? And am I missing anything else?
    In case you're all wondering, I've got a microcontroller attached to the serial port that sends data periodically. I would like to use the Java comm API to read the incoming data (and if possible store it in the form of a text file or something). Any suggestions would be great as I'm still new to Java. More of a C/C++ person (^_^) Thanks in advance.....

    Did you try using that little search field in the upper right hand corner of your browser?

  • Howto license the Java ES or Communication Suite

    Hi at all,
    i hope someone can answer my question.
    Do i have to get Licenses for running the Java Communication Suite in production envoirement ?
    Understanding the Sun Licensing model is harder than setting up their software.
    thanks for answers,
    Matze
    PS: Sorry for my bad english

    Sorry for the delayed response.
    The answer is no. You do not need a license to use the software in a production environment. Once you need assurance and support, Sun offers licensing and support plans for purchase.

  • Need API for Java communicating with RS232

    Dear All,
    I am a newbie to Java. I have a sensor connected to a microcontroller, and this microcontroller is also connected to a PC through the RS232 (COM 1). I have installed the Java Communications API "Javax.comm" on my PC and was able to run the "BlackBox" sample program. What I require is a simple Java program that will read and show the bytes comming through the COM1 port. If anyone has done anything similar or has an idea of how to go about it, could they please send me some example code, I would be very grateful. Or if anyone knows about any website with such similar examples i would be very grateful.
    Thank you very much.

  • Problem with Java Communication API

    hi
    I installed the Java Communication API on win32 platform (as per the guidelines)
    Now when I try to run the sample program 'Blackbox' for the serial port, I get an error (in fact an exception is generated inside main function in BlackBox.class file)
    I tried the SimpleRead.java example but that too generated the same exception
    Can anybody help me out.... I am a novice with Java Comm API

    I tried running the sample BlackBox program provided for serial port and now it says
    No Serial Ports Found!
    I verified that both comm.jar and javax.comm.properties are in the <JDK>\lib directory.
    Actually, I am using netBeans IDE 1.4 and I used the C:\J2SDK folder installed with netBeans for the Java Communicaion API
    plz help.

  • Java Communications API and Java SDK 1.4.2

    I just installed the Java Communications API 2.0 on my Windows XP system, with JDK 1.4.2. As per the install instructions, I copied files from the zip into my /lib and /bin directories and set the classpath. However, when I attempt to compile any of the samples, the compiler displays a large number of errors. I know the API documentation only references JDK1.2 -- are there any special tricks to installing on newer JDKs, or will I need to acquire an older JDK to develop?

    My path variable is still not being set! Here is the content of my autoexec.bat located on the root directory of C:\
    rem - By Groove Setup
    PATH=%PATH%;"C:\Program Files\Groove Networks\Groove\Bin"
    PATH=%PATH%;C:\PROGRAM FILES\J2SDK1.4.2_07\BIN
    /code]
    When I type 'path' at the MSDOS C:\ prompt, I receive the following in the get the following:C:\WINDOWS;C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND;\C:\PROGRAM FILES\GROOVE NETWORKS\GROOVE\BIN
    As an aside, I noticed that when I perform a search of the my hard drive (c:\), I find two autoexec.bat files. One at the root, and the other in C:\Windows\Command\EBD.
    I believe the instructions stated to modify the autoexec.bat at the root directory.
    TIA for any assistance. This is really becoming a nusance and taking up quite a bit of my time trying to resolve this problem.

  • Java Communications Package

    I have download the commapi file and load the files to the place in my current version. I am running J2SE 1.5.0_04. I have run the blackbox program and have found no serial ports. I have also tired running the SimpleRead.java. This comes up with this error message:
    Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError; SimpleRead
    What does this mean?
    Why do I find no serial ports with the black box program?
    thanks

    Go to www.java.sun.com and type commapi on the search text box. You will find the Java Communication API for dowload.

    I'd like to have some links.Were you asking about the "Java Community Process"?
    That exists to allow you to suggest changes to change and participate in the definition, implementation and acceptance of such changes. If and only if that is what you are looking for then you could use the following link.

  • Java Communications Testing

    Does anyone know if there are a set of JUnit tests, or any other tests available for the Java Communications API or RXTX?
    Thanks,

    Delegated Administrator (DA) is not required but it does make life much simpler in terms of adding users to JCS.
    DA has a CLI and a web interface so one could build out provisioning scripts using the CLI interface to get the best of both worlds.
    If you don't want to use DA you do not have to but I would recommend looking at the Schema Guide (http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/819-4437) to figure out which attributes are required, etc
    Access Manager is used if you want to provide single sign on for the web client Communications Express in terms of Messaging Server/Calendar Server.
    If you don't need/want Communications Express then AM is optional for sure.
    Delegated Administrator does need Access Manager I believe although I could be wrong about that off the top of my head.
    It also depends on the schema choice you make (http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/820-0639) in terms of what tools are available for managing your users in JCS.

  • How to customize the Java Concurrent Program(PO Output for Communication)

    Hi,
    How to customize the Java Concurrent Program(PO Output for Communication)
    I need to add the Line level Ship To Address ,Line Notes and Extended Price fields on Java Concurrent Program.
    Please any body help/guide me in this regard.

    Hi,
    Changing Java Conc. program for "PO Output for Communication" is difficult.
    Actually, if you observe closely, "PO Output for Communication" program uses PO<HEADER/LINES..>_XML views.
    So if you could change these views and add your requireed columns to it, you can automatically see your changes in XML data file.

  • Java Communication:COM3 echoing back the commands

    Hi,
    I want to send commands to the internal modem and get a reply. My code does not throw any exceptions. The problem that I am facing is that whatever command I send to COM3(the port on which the modem is connected), I get an echo of the command back. Not only the command but whatever i write to the OutputStream I get it back. Please tell me where I am going wrong.
    I followed the example from here http://java.sun.com/developer/Books/javaprogramming/cookbook/11.pdf.
    I am new to java communication API so need to know why COM3 is echoing back the command instead of responding.
    Here is my code:

    Hi,
    Just an update on the previous post, when I sent "ATE0" it stopped echoing. BUT when I send another command it sends back null now.
    here is the updated code:
    d.os.print("ATE0");
    Thread.currentThread().sleep(500);
    d.os.print("ATZ");
    Thread.currentThread().sleep(500);
    d.os.print("\r\n");
    String response = d.is.readLine();
    System.out.println("Response on port:"+""+portId.getName()+": "+response+""+"OwnedBy--"+portId.getCurrentOwner());If I only send "ATE0" nothing is displayed, but when I sent "ATZ" next it retruns null.
    regards

  • Communication between UME on the Java Stack and ABAP Stack

    I thought that the error could be that the UME on the Java Stack is not able to communicate with the ABAP stack.

  • When Teststand is expired, the java process communicating with Teststand engine is killed.

    We are using an evaluation version of Teststand for development. We are using Teststand API in C code to communicate with the Teststand engine and in turn the java process communicates with the C code. But if the Teststand is expired, the java process is killed. Please suggest if there is a solution to stop the killing of java process when the teststand is expired.

    Hi geddam,
    The fact that the entire application is ending is expected as it is trying to access the TestStand API. Since your evaluation period is over you no longer have an active license and cannot access TestStand. We allow an evaluation period so that someone new to TestStand can evaluate it to determine if they will benefit from the software. However, once you have decided to develop using TestStand, you need to obtain a development license for TestStand. We have several different licenses for TestStand and a specific license to be used for development. The evaluation period should not be used as a time for development but a time to evaluate the software. So, in order for your application to work again, you will need to obtain a license for TestStand software.

  • I'm ready to help the FOSS community , but I can't find a proyect.

    I've been working as a C# developer for the last 5 years and using linux for about the same time. One of my goals for the 2011 is to start developing FOSS in my spare time. Maybe in python, I find it interesting.
    However , there are some problems that I am facing:
    1) The proyect: every proyect I found is too big , or too complex , or too boring. Maybe I'm missing something , maybe I'm looking in the wrong place. I don't know , Exaile was the closest to a interesting proyect that I found , but after reviewing the code , I couldn't understand the gstreamer logic (I mean , that's the core of the app , right?).
    2) My "coworkers": I'm used to work everyday in the same office and and have a close relationship with them. I don't know how to react to this change and how does the other developers could/would react to a new developer coming to the proyect (I mean , "hey guys , i fixed these bugs and added the 2 things for the next milestone. Btw , I'm Andres" seems wierd lol).
    I think I'm not the first one having these problems , so any feedback would help me.
    Thanks

    nagel wrote:I'm ready to help the FOSS community, but I can't find a project.
    How exciting! I love helping FOSS projects, but it can be difficult to decide what to do.
    nagel wrote:One of my goals for the 2011 is to start developing FOSS in my spare time. Maybe in Python, I find it interesting.
    I agree, Python is very interesting. I made my first Python application a few months ago. It was easy to use, fun, and I think using Python helped me to become a better C programmer.
    Keep it simple
    nagel wrote:Every project I found is too big, or too complex, or too boring. Maybe I'm missing something, maybe I'm looking in the wrong place.
    My suggestion: choose a project where you need to learn one thing at a time.
    There are languages (examples: Python, C), libraries (examples: GTK, Qt), and programming paradigms. (examples: GUI programming, threaded programming) When you begin working on a project, you will probably need to learn something new. Try to learn only one thing at a time. For example, if you have to learn gstreamer and GTK (two libraries) at the same time then you might become frustrated. Or, if you have to C++ and Qt (a language and a library) at the same time then you might become frustrated.
    So, try to learn one thing at a time.
    Other FOSS developers
    nagel wrote:I'm used to work everyday in the same office and and have a close relationship with them. I don't know how to react to this change and how does the other developers could / would react to a new developer coming to the project.
    I love working online with FOSS developers! It feels like I'm talking to a celebrity. You know, like when Allan or Dusty posts a reply to me on the Arch Linux forums.
    Of course, you should join the mailing list and bug tracker for the project you want to work on. I don't usually introduce myself. Instead, I just start helping, and people will know me soon.
    My FOSS experience
    Here are some examples from my FOSS experience.
    Many years ago, I wanted to write a new FOSS application. I couldn't think of any new applications to make, so I decided to make a video game. There are NEVER too many video games.
    I learned many things by making video games:
    Languages: C, Objective-C, Java, Assembly, Ada
    Libraries: Allegro, SDL, Java SWING
    I've submitted many bug reports to many different projects, such as wxWidgets, Allegro, Udiskie, and Haiku. I really like submitting bug reports and working with the developers to fix the problem. It's easy to do and I get to use better software.
    I maintain some AUR packages. (very easy, but it helps FOSS)
    I helped write the documentation for some software from the Arch Linux community, such as Packer and Udiskie. I've contributed to the Arch Linux wiki.
    Recently, my wife and I wanted a new application for budgetting. I decided to write one. I used Python and wxWidgets. It works pretty well. My next goal is to convert it to C++ and wxWidgets, and then make a version for Haiku using C++ and the Haiku API.
    Interesting things
    You should definiteley work on something that you think is interesting. To me, that's Arch Linux, Haiku, bug reports, and documentation. Try to find things that are interesting to you!
    Lastly, don't make your goal too big and don't try to do too much. There are many many people helping in FOSS. If everyone does a little bit, then we can make something great.
