I'm a Mac. She's a PC.

So, I was trying to put a range extender onto our wireless network through my wife's PC. And as most Window's stories end, it was a complete disaster. Now she can't even get a wireless signal, yet my PB still can.
If I set up a whole new wireless network using Airport Extreme, does anyone know if it is extremely simple to add a PC to that network?
Thanks

"extremely simple" and "PC" never go in the same sentence.
I found it relatively easy. The settings for Windows XP were somewhat obtuse but they worked. iFelix's web site has directions for the different flavors of Windows.

  • HT3819 How do I copy all music files that appear on one library into the library on another MAC - both on home share

My partner and I both have MACs
She copied from CD our entire CD music collection and has turned on I-Cloud.
I want to import her library to my MAC rather than copy all the CDs again.
    We have Home share on
The Apple advice "In the Show menu at the bottom of the iTunes window, choose “Items not in my library.”" does not work as there is no "items not in my library" at the bottom of the show menu

  • Error message when trying to sign on mac

I sent a digitally signed contract to a client for her electronic signature.  I created the document on a PC and am able to sign it electronically (as a different user) on a PC.  When she tries to sign it on a mac, she gets an error message.  Since I have already signed the contract as the first signer, I can't remove the security, and I don't want to give her the owner password to edit the document.  She has not been able to tell me which version of Acrobat she is using.  Are there any solutions to this, other than having her find a PC to use? A screenshot of the error message is attached.
    Thanks.
    --Lindsey

We need to know which product (Acrobat/Reader) which version (including minor) and which OS version she is using.
It does not look to me that she is using Acrobat/Reader at all but rather the Mac OS PDF Viewer (Preview).

  • Mac doesn't display correctly on a TV

    My friend has this problem:
The postman brought a new lead to connect my Mac to the TV (having bought the wrong adapter in the first place and got the Mackuna one by accident), so we got everything linked up ready to go, found the right channel on the TV etc. etc. adjusted the display on the Mac to the right resolution, pressed play on the download ... and noticed that the TV only plays it if I move it off the right-hand side of the computer screen! How can that be? I mean it's watchable and the mouse pointer is there too, but how can that be right?! If you put the computer next to the TV the picture joins up like one long computer screen! So you can have it playing half on the TV and half on the computer!! You can move it around like that too! I mean it can't be designed to only play on the TV if you drag it right off your computer screen? Can it?
Any thoughts anyone? (I'm not sure which Mac she has)

Everything that you've mentioned sounds correct for Extended Mode viewing. Yes you can drag the application completely off the Mac screen to the TV and resize it to fit.
You could make the TV the primary screen by going to System Preferences/Displays/Arrangement and dragging the white bar from the small monitor to the larger monitor. This way, the opposite will occur... you drag applications from the TV to the MacBook when you want to.
Another option would be viewing in [Closed Clamshell Mode|http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3131?viewlocale=en_US] so that the TV becomes the only screen.

  • Where are my files on a MAC?

I have created an air app that looks to an XML file for the
location of an mp3 file.... the mp3 file is saved in the same
    folder....
When I install this app on a PC, the xml file and the mp3 are
clearly in the program files folder with the app.
When a friend installs it on her mac she says that in the
applications folder there is just the program and no other files...
it runs OK so the files must be there somewhere but she can't find
them.... Where are they? Tried doing a search but nothing came
up.... I need her to be able to access the mp3 file.... is it
inside the program file on a mac?
    Thanks,
    Matt.

The program file is actually a folder on Mac. You need to
control-click on the App file and select "Show package content".
Then the Finder will open the folder.

  • From MAC to windows

Hi, I just loaded all of my songs onto my new iPod using my Mac Powerbook. I also loaded all of the same playlists onto my wife's new iPod Nano from my Powerbook. She doesn't use Mac, she uses Windows. Now, she wants to add songs to her Nano from her own computer. She has loaded the iTunes software, and after connecting the Nano, it tells her that the Nano needs to be reformatted and that she can't keep all of the loaded playlists. Is this true? Or is there a way around this so that she doesn't lose all the songs already on her Nano?
    Thanks in advance
    Robert Grossman

    Robert,
If the Nano was formatted for the Mac then Windows won't recognise it so it will have to be reformatted. You can use a Windows formatted iPod on the Mac, see this article to confirm the format of your Nano: iPod: How to determine your iPod's disk format
    From the iPod FAQ:
Question: Can I use an iPod formatted for Mac on a PC, or an iPod formatted for Windows on a Mac?
Answer: It is not possible to use an iPod formatted for Mac with Windows. This is because Windows does not support the HFS Plus file system and therefore will not see the drive.
If you no longer have the tracks that are on the Nano in iTunes on your PowerBook then you could use Senuti to retrieve them and then update after reformatting: Senuti

  • Bot Mac or how not to be stupid

My stupid sister decided that since she has got mac she can safely install everything from Internet.
It so happened that one day she clicked on smth to install from the internet (unfortunately I don't know what it was) and since then her macbook has been working weird.
    One of the symptoms.
On Google's Books page she can observe such a note now
    We're sorry...
but your computer or network may be sending automated queries. To protect our users, we can't process your request right now.
I believe that her MacBook might become a part of the botnet or smth. Unfortunately since I got PC I don't know how she can clean or at least check her MacBook easily to elimitate any bot or trojan.
Should she apply for a meeting with genious guys or they won't help her in this matter ? What are the steps ?

Well. I told her to check with this one first http://macscan.securemac.com/files/iWorkServicesTrojanRemovalTool.dmg.
    OSX.Trojan.iServices.A   or    OSX.Trojan.iServices.B haven't been found.
As far as ClamXav is concerned, I have told her to get this one http://www.clamxav.com/index.php?page=v2beta
But it says that Before using ClamXav, you must first install the Clam Anti-Virus engine.
Well I wrote to Google. They just asked me about her browser and OS and IP. well her IP is dynamic so I can't see if that could help. At least they know the case and maybe they will tell what went wrong.
P.S. Did you mean my message was bogus. Did you mean I was troll or smth. No. I'm not that's the real case.

  • Apple says I'm using over 20 GB, Mac shows only 5 GB used?

My wife is getting notifications that she is using a little over 20 GB of iCloud space and needs to upgrade. She does not use any iCloud services except Address Book and Mail. On the Mac, she shows that Mail is using 4.75 GB of space. She also notes that many of the folders she's created in Mail on her Mac do not show up in iCloud. How to explain the difference? She does not want to lose iCloud services after Sept 30 but we can't find any reason for the difference. She has emptied her trash and junk folders in the iCloud and her computer.

How many computers/devices does she have connected to icloud?  If she used several devices (ipad, iphone, etc) and these perform icloud backups, then that can add to the usage.
If she is using devices, then do the following on one of them...
    Go to
Settings>General>Usage.  This tells how much storage is used on both iCloud and on the device.
Also, to determine how much icloud space is used...
Settings>icloud>Storage&Backup, Tap "Manage Storage" - this lists file groups and amount of ram taken.  In the list, tap "Show All" to get all the data.  Also at the bottom you find email totals.

  • Iphone from mac to pc

I am giving my girlfriend my iphone. I have only used it with my mac, she has a pc. It isn't important to keep any contacts, calendars or music etc (keeping the apps would be nice). Is it just a case of connecting it to the pc and syncing it as a new iphone so it restores to factory settings?

Restoring an iPhone with iTunes completely erases the iPhone first followed by the firmware being re-installed. After the firmware is re-installed, you are prompted to restore the iPhone from the iPhone's backup if one is available and if so, this will be the default selection. Or you can restore the iPhone as a new iPhone or not from the iPhone's backup and she can start from there as a new iPhone transferring her iTunes content, etc. to the iPhone.
3rd party apps - paid and free include DRM protection which is tied to the iTunes account used to purchase/download the apps. Your GF will need to download 3rd party apps with iTunes on her computer or with the iPhone using her iTunes account. 3rd party apps downloaded with one iTunes account cannot be shared with another iTunes account.

  • HT4505 If I scan pics using a Mac, save to USB, can I then read on a PC?

I have to scan a large amount of pictures for my sister in law. I have a Mac she has a PC. If I scan using my Mac and save to USB, will she be able to access the pictures with her PC?

Of course. Macs and PCs read the same photos, so you won't have any problem.
The only thing you have to be careful about is that you create the pictures in a format like JPEG or PNG, just in case TIFF doesn't work. The scanning application will give you the option to modify this setting

  • "On My Mac" account inbox deleted

This a question concerning my wife's Mac - she's using 10.3.9 on a PowerMac G4. She is using Mail 1.3.11.
We think she deleted the "On My Mac" account that is listed under the "In" mailbox. As she recalls, she was trying to delete something in Address Book, got that app mixed up with Mail, and probably deleted "On My Mac" instead. In any case, it is no longer there.
She has an email account inbox which indicates 88 messages in it, but when she selects the account inbox icon, there are no messages listed. I have sent her email to that account, and the message count increases, but no mail shows in its inbox. Also, this account is showing the triangular icon that indicates a subfolder, but there has never been a subfolder for that email account, and none shows up when the folder is opened.
We got desperate and tried to create a new "On My Mac" mailbox, but it doesn't put it under "In", it places it at another level.
Any suggestions? Would "Rebuild" help in any way?

I've been using the Mail.app exclusively since Jaguar was introduced, thru Panther and now Tiger and I've never had an "On My Mac" named mailbox under "In" in the mailboxes drawer.
The only place an "On My Mac" named mailbox should be located is under Trash which is created automatically by Mail and used when selecting a message for deletion that is located in a user created "On My Mac" mailbox.
I don't know how the "On My Mac" named mailbox became available under "In" but since you cannot create mailboxes under "In" in the mailboxes drawer. Mailboxes under In, Drafts, Sent, and Junk are account named mailboxes only and are created automatically by Mail when the function is used by an email account.
She has an email account inbox which indicates
88 messages in it, but when she selects the account
inbox icon, there are no messages listed.
If a POP type account, using the Finder go to Home > Library > Mail > this account named folder (named by the user name and incoming mail server for the account).
Within a POP type account named folder should be the following mailboxes in mbox format as follows:
    INBOX.mbox
    Drafts.mbox
    Sent Messages.mbox
    Deleted Messages.mbox
Junk.mbox (If Junk Mail is set to automatic.)
    And a MessageUidsAlreadyDownloaded file.
    There should be no folders.
Before making any changes, post back listing what is available within this account named folder.

  • How do i transfer my iphone contacts to my address book on mac

my daughter is trying to sync her iphone contacts to her mac. she has tried seveal times and not able to.

Don't know why syncing isn't working, but one way she can at least transfer her contacts to her mac is to use the app My Contacts Backup, which will back up the contacts on her phone as an email attachement.  She sends this email to herself, opens it on her mac, then double-clicks on the attachment and the contacts will import to Address Book.

  • Sharing Calenders (via .Me) between a Mac and a PC? Is it possible?

I have a .Me account and my girlfriend has just bought a .Me account (or more accurately is using the trial version). I have a Mac she has a PC.
Is there anyway she can publish her Calendar via the iCal feature on the online cloud (i.e via the internet). If not is there a PC version of iCal so that she can publish it from her desktop?
What we are basically trying to do is get our calendars to show up on the other persons computer. If anyone knows if this is possible we'd love to know.
Fingers crossed she will hopefully buy a MacBook soon and this problem will be a thing of the past. Meanwhile any help with this query would be greatly appreciated.
    Richard

Should be easy on the Mac side, in System Preferences>Sharing, enable File Sharing & who can.
Once you set Folder Sharing on the PC side & add the Mac User as a PC user, then on the Mac...
    Finder>Go Menu>Connect to Server>Browse.
If they in fact do show up on the Desktop, then create a new Folder maybe named Shares on/in the Desktop, drag all those Shares shown on the Desktop to that Folder, drag that Folder to the right side of the Dock between Applications & Trash, this should give you a popup menu to select from.:-)
Mount that Share once, then once the Globe Icon shows up on the Desktop, drag that Globe Icon to the right side of the Dock between Applications & Trash. You now have a Dynamic Mount, a quick click on the Icon in the Dock will connect you.
    On the multiple Shortcuts...
Mount them all, when show up on the Desktop, then create a new Folder maybe named Shares on/in the Desktop, drag all those Shares shown on the Desktop to that Folder, (you can even rename them once there, if you wish), drag that Folder to the right side of the Dock between Applications & Trash, this should give you a popup menu to select from.:-)
To automount them, drag those Aliases to the Accounts Pref Pane's Login Items Window.
