Ya know what I'm on a brand new MBP just about 24 hours old and you know whats been working amazingly for me. I have a 27inch iMac as well and i've just connected it to my network and been dragging files and apps across the network onto my new MBP. Its really working fast and its flawless. You could always do that option, Just go into sharing options and turn them on for both Macs. Then just click and drag. Of course they have to both be on the same network for this to be possible.
Look at my network.
Shared is what your looking at.  I click on there see all my computers files and then drag the ones i want form its folder to my MBP folders.  Hope that helps if your looking for a very simple way on a wireless network.

  • What is the best way to copy 700 local folders full of email to a new computer?

I am moving my wife from and old computer (Thunderbird, Win XP) to a new one (Thunderbird Win 7). She has about 700 local folders with thousands of email messages in them. What is the best way to copy them to the new computer?

The easiest way is just copy the whole profile.
    Help menu > troubleshooting information
    Close Thunderbird
In windows explorer select all and copy.
paste everything onto a thumb or other read/write portable media (not CD or DVD)
on the new Machine repeat the troubleshooting and close steps to get the current profile folder
This time paste everything from the portable media into the profile replacing what is there
Open Thunderbird, your done mail contacts add-ons everything

What is the best way to copy a DVD I made from iMovie?  It was HD720 and I don't want to lose any quality in the copies.  I need to distribute it to about 20 people. It's 42 minutes long.

You will need to save it as a video to the camera roll.
Import it into windows as you would a photo.
Then purchase DVD authoring software, and create a DVD.

  • What's the best way to copy a big poster and print it out?

I'm doing a big art project (around 5ft by 5ft), where I'm going to draw stuff out by hand, and would like to make a copy of that project by scanning it into the computer, or taking high-res photos of the project and compiling them together in the computer, and then printing the image out at that size, or bigger. So, I will have the original, 5x5ft, and a printed copy.
What's the best way of doing this?
I hear that vector images are ideal for this, so is Illustrator recommended for this?
I know it's a vector graphics program, but is there any way I can take a bitmap image from a scan or photo, and somehow turn it into a vector? If this is not possible, what recommendations would you have?
    I have Illustrator CS2.

Take the photo in one shot by a camera with 24MP, e.g.
    http://www.kenrockwell.com/nikon/d3x.htm
This should be sufficient for a poster reproduction 5ft square
    as a raster image.
For vectorizing one doesn't need high resolution (it's often
recommended to blur the source image).
Perspective and lens corrections can be applied by Photoshop,
but the lighting should be well balanced.
Barrel distortion by wide angle lens is really no problem.
    Plenty examples:
All photos here were taken without tripod by a 170 Euro camera.
    http://www.fho-emden.de/~hoffmann/andalusien13032010.pdf
Especially see p.20, a photo (with flash) of an exhibition photo,
viewing direction not orthogonal to the object, then perspectively
    and lens-distortion corrected.
(The PDF shows the photos heavily downsampled).

  • What is the Best way To Copy and paste data from 1 book to another

I have 18 sheets in 5 different books that I want to extract data from specific cells.  What is the best way to do this?  Example:  1 sheet is called Numbers E-O1 data in 13:WXYZ. The data updates and moves up 1 row every time I enter
a new number. So let's say I enter the number 12. Through a lot of calculations the output goes in 13:WXYZ. To what I call a counter which is a 4 digit number.  Anyways, how can I send that 4 digit number to a totally different sheet?  To bullet
    what I'm talking about
data in cells Row 13:WXYZ in book called Numbers sheet E-O1
send data to book called "Vortex Numbers" Sheet E-O row 2001:CDEF
What formula or Macro can I use to make this work?
    thank you!

    Hello Larbec,
    Syntax:
    '[BookName]SheetName'!Range
    Enter in cell  2001:CDEF:
    ='[Numbers]E-O1'!13:WXYZ
This assumes that the file is open in Excel. Otherwise you need to add the path:
    'ThePath[BookName]SheetName'!Range

  • I am wondering what is the best way to merge a very large iphoto library (from my MBP) to my new iMac (which has a few hundred photos on it now), and then upgrade to Aperture?

I have about 50GB of photos on my old MBP iphoto library.
I have a new iMac with a few hundred photos that I've uploaded since I bought it last December.
The iMac is where I want to keep everything stored as my main photo library, and manage it with a new Aperture installation.
Before I go and do this, and possibly muck it all up,
I would like to figure out the proper steps.
I am not too familiar with how to transfer files in the first place, so any help for a beginner would be much appreciated.
Starting from how to safely move the files from the MBP to the iMac, if anyone could walk me through this process.
I've been searching around but I have a specific goal (with getting everything into Aperture) so I don't want to get crossed up.
    Thanks for your help!!

I have about 50GB of photos on my old MBP iphoto library.
To be able to merge your libraries, your Aperture version and iPhoto version must match. For basic reading see: Aperture 3.3: Using a unified photo library with iPhoto and Aperture
and Aperture 3.3: How to use Aperture to merge iPhoto libraries
Assuming you are running the latest Aperture and iPhoto versions:
Before merging libraries ensure that your iPhoto Library has no issues. While still on your old mac run the "library first aid tools" on your iPhoto Library. Hold down the key combination ⌥⌘ and double click your iPhoto Library, then select "Repair database".
Make sure you have a backup of your current Aperture Library and iPhoto library.
Do both macs have a FireWire port? Then you could connect your macs in Target Disk Mode:
See OS X Lion: Transfer files between two computers using target disk mode
This way your new mac could see your old mac as an external disk and you could copy directly between the macs.
Otherwise copy your iPhoto library by drag-and-drop to an external disk (on your old mac) and connect that disk to your new mac. Check, if the external drive is formatted for mac (MacOS X Extended (Journaled)). Otherwise reformat it, before you copy the iPhoto library to that drive.
When your iPhoto Library has been moved to your new Mac launch Aperture and use the command "File > Import > Library" from the main menu bar. If there are duplicates in the Aperture library (if you imported earlier from iPhoto) you may be prompted if you want to "Add" or "Merge". If you have lots of duplicates, pick "Merge", otherwise "Add".
Post back, if you need more detailed instructions.
    Good Luck.

  • What's the 'best' way to copy a usable project to new one so it can be modified without affecting the original?

I'm pretty much a LavVIEW newbie.
I'm using LabVIEW 2012 Full on Windows 7.  I copied a project using Save As-Duplicate in Project Explorer.  It created an excessively long, complex directory structure.  It resulted in 'too long' errors (presumably from the PATH being too long).
The intent was to get a copy of the usable project to be able freely modify it without damaging the original.
I've poked around the forums and knowledge base, didn't see anything definitive.  I'm guessing the information is already posted but I just haven't been able to find it.  A point in the correct direction would be appreciated.
    Thanks,

Much easier to remove then add, which is why I copied the tree and delete things not needed.  But I do agree that these actors/engines could be more reusable.  I do have them in lvlib form but many times there will be coupling between actors that are unavoidable.  If the UPS actor detects a power outage it needs to tell the sequencing actor to stop testing if a testing is going on.  For that reason I have a hard time splitting some actors into reusable modules, because they are only reusable if other components are there.

  • What is the best way to build a career path where I can evolve into an SAP role instead of one that is Customer Service based?

In October 2011, my previous employer converted to SAP, as the rest of the worldwide entities were already using SAP. At that time, I was an Order Coordinator, where my job role was to process all of the Inside/Outside Sales Representatives orders for the US. Because of my keen attention to detail, the speed in which I learn new roles and general IT knowledge, I was asked to be the SAP SuperUser for our Financial Operations team. I quickly began to learn the roles of Order-to-Cash, Customer Master Data, Pricing Conditions, Contracts, some Material Master Data, and even Customer/Material Pricing Audits. I also performed manual customer billing in SAP until the automatic modules were implemented. Knowledge of these roles created a need for me to become a trainer to my team, where the SAP Consultants left off. After only working in SAP for the few months after the conversion started, I evolved out of an Order Coordinator rights of access and was given a not-so-typical role as an "analyst". I had more than a firefighter role in SAP, as my normal log in credentials gave me full rights to all of these modules and even special reporting. Our parent global company realized necessity for my role and followed proper protocol to authorize the access changes to still meet the SOx regulations. Prior to using SAP, I never thought I'd fall in love with it and enjoy my job so much, but it happened! Despite my previous employer's less than perfect data that was copied into SAP, we managed to have an efficient ongoing process to clean it all up.  I became more of a liaison between Financial Operations and our IT Dept/SAP Consultants. I "translated" the technical steps that IT/SAP Consultants were trying to teach everyone and trained my Financial Operations team in a way they would understand. I truly enjoyed my job, even at our most difficult moments.
However, after all of the fun I was having while working in SAP and truly gaining a ton of useful experience and knowledge, "life" happened and I had an opportunity to move from Atlanta, GA to southern California. I've searched for months to find a new career here in California with a company that I could continue my learning experiences and become more proficient in SAP, but I'm a little lost. My search to find jobs have only given me possibilities in Customer Service positions or ones that are SAP sales/programming based. I'm floating in limbo and looking for help from the SAP community on where I can go from here to get back into a career path with SAP.
I'm 28 years old and I'm currently finishing my Associate degree in Business Administration. I'm a Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP), certified with the Help-Desk Institute as a Support Center Analyst, and also completed my previous employer's Quality Advocate Certification which focused on Six Sigma and Lean concepts. Prior to leaving the company, I was being considered for a company sponsored training in the Six Sigma Green or Black Belt program. I've recently started working a contract position as a Customer Service Rep, processing orders, but the company will be completing an SAP conversion in May 2013; so only a few months away. The problem I have in this position is that I feel frustrated in learning their current software when their entire team seems to have their own personal ways of doing their job. I prefer to have structure and perform job duties the right way, then building on that to make the job more streamlined. I spoke with my recruiter but he feels I may be a bit premature on feelings about working in this contract position. I may be just feeling a little impatient in having to wait another 3 months to see if the company may even hire me on permanently and what role I would have with SAP, beyond Customer Service Rep. I'm hoping to get some direction from the SAP community on where I might focus my attention in learning SAP. My hope is to find a position working with SAP like the one I enjoyed so much back in GA. I'm even considering options to learn the programming side. I think SAP is a great software package once people understand how it's designed, or can be designed, to work.
    Please help!!
I'd be happy to provide my resume to anyone willing to review it and give me some pointers. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I appreciate the length and detail of your post. I struggle answering questions from folks who give too little info. It's refreshing to have too much info for a change.
I'll summarize your post and give suggestions:
You have very strong end user experience, almost bordering on support level SD knowledge. You have experience with the way that at least one company implemented SAP SD but don't have many years of experience with different approaches, so you can't pitch yourself as someone who's "been-there, done-that" outside of the SD world and you can't bill yourself as having SD functional knowledge to the extend that you could be a consultant for SAP SD.  (See FAQ: Different Career Paths in SAP for descriptions of different traditional SAP career paths.)
You've moved to Southern California, which is chock full of companies using SAP, by the way, and you're having a hard time finding the right job. Your education is probably going to be problematic at this point. Most SAP related jobs require a Bachelor's Degree at a minimum. Definitely keep on going with your degree. I don't know where you're doing your associate's degree, but you might want to look in to Cal State Fullerton, which has an *excellent* SAP focused business degree program. (http://business.fullerton.edu/).
You've found work at a company but had to start over at a lower level of responsibility. Since the job you just landed will be transitioning to SAP in 3 months, you have an opportunity to repeat your previous rise by volunteering to be a super-user again. Alternatively, you could talk to the group within your company and express your desire to help out supporting the system from the back end. Traditionally, companies lose a few folks immediately following an implementation, so there's a good chance that if you make your desires and skills known, that you'll be able to move onto the support team once a position opens up.
All of the above assumes that you want to continue on the functional side of SD. You didn't mention any aptitude or preference for programming. It is certainly easier to get programming jobs than functional jobs (see How did you get your start in SAP?), but it seems like you really enjoyed the functional side of SAP. I do *not* recommend learning an SAP skill for which you have no desire simply to get a job, hoping that you can switch later. Use the skills you have to get the job you really want, doing something that really excites you. It's far to easy to fall into a job simply because it's there and get trapped and burned out.
    Hope this helps!
    Best regards,

  • What is the best way to throw text in a 5 minute film in final cut pro

Does anyone know what the fastest way is to put 3d text (like the templates in motion) on a video in final cut pro?

Use live type, you can do some real nice effects with text. Live type has backgrounds you can use, plus you can add your own which is what I do. Then you can use a live type font or standard type with fades, motion paths, glows and all sorts of neat stuff.

  • What is the best way to ensure broadcast-ready files to DMDS from Adobe Premiere Pro CC?

After submitting my 708 closed-caption HD video to DMDB for broadcast they said there were no captions.
I initially exported the video as a .MXF file from Premiere Pro CC. In my source preview window the closed captions appear, but for some reason DMDS could not read them. Im looking for a way to get closed-caption videos broadcast ready for submittal to DMDS.
In addition, when close-captioning for 708, the closed caption text appears with dots between each character in a word, and the background color is shifted to the right, leaving the first letter of each caption hangin out of it's background. Im assuming it's a Premiere Pro CC glitch, but I'd like to be able to communicate this with some certainty to any clients who may ask about it.
    Pleas advise.

    Very interesting.
I'm about to submit HD captioned spot for Extreme Reach, they specify only an mpeg2 transport
stream for keeping the captioning data.
I did the 608 and 708 captions just above the video 1 track in premiere cc and they check
out when setting the caption previewer to 608 or 708 in the program monitor.
if I import that mpeg2 file BACK into premiere and play it the captions
    are not showing.
I Just now exported an .mxf and saw an option to EMBED captions in the file
instead of just the side car option normally there.
THAT WORKED!  re-importing to premiere I see the captioning on track 2 and 3
    and they do play.
But Extreme Reach requires the captioning in an mpeg2 TS container, not mxf.
I tried converting the mxf to mpeg TS but the captioning gets stripped out.
    any ideas or suggestions?

  • BOM and ECN, what's the best way to do it?

    Hello Experts,
I want to use ECN to keep track of changes on mulitlevel BOMs, but I am struggeling with understanding how this is done in the best way.
Basically, my understanding is that if you want to do a change, you create a change master and set a validity date. Then, next time you want to do a change, a new change master is created with its validity date. So you end up with a lot of change masters for the same BOM.
Now, how am I supposed to report all changes done to a BOM in a userfriendly and easy way? I cannot find a report that gives me changes pr part/BOM number?
Am I missing the point here or do you have any good ideas?
    rgds
    GAR

    Dear GAR,
Change number helps you to find out the history of the objects like BOM,material master.
The history includes the creation, changes and deletion of datas.
But there is no direct report in SAP where in you will get all the details like in which field the change
has happened in combination with ECM.
You can have a look in the reports like CC05,CC04,CC07.
Still if this does not suit your business requirements means then you have to go for a customized report.
You can also refer these links related to ECM,

  • What is the best way to migrate photo library to new Mac ?

Hi .... I just bought off ebay an Mac Mini 2.53Mhz running Mountain Lion . This was a great and cost effective purchase to upgrade my very tired Mac Mini 1.6 duo running Snow Leopard (still going as a second computer) .
However , I am not sure best way to transfer over my photos ?
I have a Time Capsule and I can use migration assistant
    - but when doing this and choosing just photos nothing else , the process creates a new user and is a real mess on the desktop.  Thus I am left with two users on the computer : and I can't access the photos from the 2.53 Mac mini user that I created for the computer , I have to log in to this restored profile.  Annoying !
    - I believe migration assistant linking the two macs through an ethernet cabe will give the same results
I have now purchased a firewire cable 400 to 800 , so the two macs are now linked . Would this be a cleaner way to transfer photos ? How should I set about it. I don't want to drag over any mess from the old computer ... I just want to get the photos onto the new computer and then link that to time capsule.
    Thanks

    Hey there cosmiconion,
It sounds like you are needing to copy over a folder containing images from your Snow Leopard computer to your newer Mountain Lion machine. You can do this by enabling File Sharing for that folder or directory, then accessing that from Finder on your newer computer, and this article will help you do that:
Mac Basics: File Sharing - Apple Support
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
