It sounds very frustrating that you are unable to use wifi with your iPhone. I do have an article that I would like you to use in order to troubleshoot this, though it sounds as if you have already done some of the steps provided -

Specifically -
Resolution
Follow these steps to resolve the issue:
Restart your iOS device.
Make sure that airplane mode is off by tapping Settings > Airplane Mode.
Reset the network settings by tapping Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.
This will reset all network settings, including Bluetooth pairing records, Wi-Fi passwords, VPN, and APN settings.
Make sure that your device is using the latest software. To do so, connect your device to your computer and check for updates in iTunes.
If you still can't turn Wi-Fi on, please contact Apple for support and service options.

Assuming this is an iCloud mail account, sign out of iCloud in its preference pane, then sign back in with the new password.

Downloaded an update for an app on my iPhone5s and 2 icons appear "greyed" out - neither one works!
After downloading an update to a Sochi Olympics app on my iPhone5s, 2 icons appeared on my screen and neither one works. They are both "greyed out" and not lit up like all the rest of the apps. When I held it down to "wiggle" it, there is no "X" in the upper-right corner. How do I fix this??
Have you check the following?

Just an update it is a hardware issue and very common for iPhone 4s. I have to get my phone rewired which basically means new wireless chip. The amount of money I spent on buying an iPhone I should not expect to have anyway hardware problems happening. Make sure you have a warranty as luckily I've saved myself from spending more money to get this problem fixed.

Unfortunately, this sort of trouble has gotten more complicated to deal with ever since Microsoft pulled the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from their Download Center on June 25. First we have to find a copy of the utility.
Let's try Googling. (Best not to use Bing, I think.) Look for a working download site for at least version 3.0 of the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. After downloading the utility installer file (msicuu2.exe), scan the file for malware, just in case. (I use the free version of Malwarebytes AntiMalware to do single-file scans for that.)
If the file is clean, to install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you've downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove".
Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try installing iTunes again. Does the install go through properly now?

Without wishing to sound paranoid (although I grant it does sound paranoid), there is a non-zero chance that posting links to download locations for the utility here at Discussions leads to that download location being shut down.) -

This protects your computer, and you need it to install most software or change the system. We can't help you if you forget it, sorry.

you're probably losing connectivity.
you can try a different browser and/or a different wired connection and/or a download manager or if you follow all 7 steps you can directly download from prodesigntools.com

My iPod updated by itself without a wifi connection. It told me to connect it to iTunes so I did and I updated the software and everything. After it was updated, my wifi button was greyed out and I don't know why. I sent it in to get fixed and the Apple store did NOTHING. I still have about 48 days left on my one year waranty and I don't know what to do to fix the problem. Please, does anyone know how to fix this issue without selling it or replacing it? Hi, i am using iphone4s.. 2 days ago i had a problem with wifi.. button greyed out, it was suggested to keep phone in freezer, worked temporarily and i updeted to ios7.1 but still facing same problem.. wht to do? cant afford to throw off :/ huhh..
well, you know how it is - glitches that usually resolve with a hard reset etc
then a restore. then a factory restore....then ..... nothing fixes so I try the next step with apple online - fill out my serial number and find it is a couple of weeks out of date - and then with the holidays who has time to get to the apple store? this is my second 4s handset as it is - first one the glass cracked from L to R without any impact/damage etc - they changed it out automatically because it's a 'known fault' apparently - so technically, this handset is only 6 months old - but warranty is from original purchase date -
never imagined it would turn out to be a warranty issue with the phone - and hey maybe when I get a chance to go to the apple store they'll be sympathetic, but I won't be able to get there till at least Jan 4th as it is. On the other hand, another iOS update might resolve the issue - but how long till that release? at the moment I'm having to use my old 3gs for wifi and 4s for phone!!! -
