I'm relatively new to Mac and want to try and get the most out of the new MacBook Air.
My wife and I have been sharing the same Apple ID. We both have iPhones - she has a 5 and I've got a 4S.
We only have one copy of iTunes and we have been sharing the account. (She doesn't really use the computer for anything beyond writing the odd weekend assignment.)
Would I be better off setting her up with her own and making her as a separate user on the computer? Would this require much work?
In recent times with updates, we have a few problems with the duplication of texts and that sort of thing. Both of our texts are stored on the computer and that sort of thing. Also, sometimes texts I send her are sent through to me  from her, if that makes any sense.
Anyway, I don't really want to overly complicate matters when it comes to accounts etc, but I wanted to know if a fresh Apple ID would be the best thing or even a new user?
Any tips etc would be greatly appreciated
Thanks in advance

I have this question too (0) Reply

Your question is almost too much a personal one, begging the question "do we (husband and wife) feel comfy sharing one account on the Mac"   maybe thats why nobody answered you.
It doesnt complicate anything, but it adds steps for switching accounts on the Mac/ purchases etc. of course
since your question is mostly personal, ..I wont answer THAT part of it, but creating a new account is easy.....messing with switching back and forth is also a personal preference 'issue' as well.   I prefer to keep things simple, but...........you and yours,  I dont know.......

When you connect your iPad or iPod to the Mac, click on the device name in iTunes - don't click on the arrow on the device. Then click on the Music tab in the main window pane. Now you should see 'Sync Music' and all your playlists, artists and albums. Here you mark the checkboxes for what should be synced.

  • What to do now when my iPad won't turn on after I turn it off. It shows only the apple logo. I am sure it has above 70% charge as when I sync my iPad it shows necessary detail in iTunes. I have tried, HOME & POWER button, but did not work.

First try a Reset  ( No Data will be Lost )
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least Ten seconds... (But can take Longer)... until the Apple logo appears. Release the Buttons
If no joy... Try a Restore...
1: Connect the device to Your computer and open iTunes.
2: If the device appears in iTunes, select and click Restore on the Summary pane.

  • I'm using the same Apple ID for both my iPhone 4 and iPad2, now I'm thinking of create a seperate Apple ID for my iPad 2, can anyone please advice on how to change my iPad2's Apple ID to a new one? Thanks!

Hi, I'm currently using iPhone 4 and iPad 2 with the same Apple ID, now I want to change my iPad 2's Apple ID to a new one so that it can be seperated from my iPhone 4's Apple ID. However, when I tried to change my iPad 2's Apple ID, my iPhone 4's Apple ID also changed. But I want to maintain the same old Apple ID for my iPhone 4 and try to change the iPad 2's Apple ID to a new one so that I can get it to my kid to use it. I would be most grateful if anyone in this forum can advice me on how to change my iPad 2's Apple ID and I can still maintain the old Apple ID for my iPhone 4? Thanks a lot in advance.

Apple ID's are not device specific, so when you changed it on the iPad 2 it changed it on the iPhone 4 as well, since it's the same account still. What you need to do is create a second Apple ID (so you'll have two accounts, one for iPhone 4 and a seperate one for iPad 2).
To create a new Apple ID on your iPad 2:
    1) Go into Settings > Store.
    2) If you are already signed in, tap your Apple ID on the screen and you will be given a few options, one of which is to sign out of your account.
    3) After you sign out, now click the "Sign in" button.
    4) Tap "Create New Apple ID" and follow the instructions on-screen.

  • Getting the most out of a new internal hard drive

Hi everyone. Many apologies if this has been answered before, but I couldn't find the info. I have a PowerMac G4 400Mhz machine with its original 10Gb hard drive. Last year, I installed a second hard drive, a 300 Gb Seagate Barracuda SATA drive, and a Seritek controller for the new drive.
When I installed the Seagate drive, I just put it in the bay on top of the 10 Gb drive. I moved all my data over to the Seagate drive, and use it as the startup drive now. I don't use the old 10 Gb drive anymore, but it's still installed in its original position.
Now I'm starting to wonder if I did everything right. My questions are: Does it slow the machine down to have that old drive still installed? And was it OK to leave it in its original position, or should I have installed the Seagate drive there instead? Lastly, when I designated the Seagate drive as the startup drive, I did so through System Preferences. Is that all there was to it, or was there some physical setting on the drives or their connections that I need to fiddle with to let the computer know what was what?
I haven't had any problems starting up with, or accessing the new drive, but sometimes when I try to do some simple operation, there's a momentary delay and I hear a low-level, high-pitched whine from the computer as if it's accessing a different drive or something. (Sorry, I'm not too technical.) Thanks!
G4 Sawtooth   Mac OS X (10.3.9)   Giga 1.12 Ghz Accelerator, 1.2 Gb RAM

1.) It slows that machine down just a bit because you have to devices now on the same channel. It's not really a big deal.
2.) If you mean position by actual physical position, also not a big deal. The positioning really doesn't matter, just put it wherever it's easily accessible in the designated slots.
3.) To set the Segate as the startup drive, all you had to do was designate it in system preferences. The physical connections you mention are to set which drive is Master and Slave. If your Mac boots fine off the segate then you've already configured it correctly.
4.) Sometimes that noise you hear is just OS X accessing the other 10gb drive. Maybe some of your programs just try to detect directories and your old drive will show up as a valid one.
    Hope that answers everything.
    Cheers

The first thing you should do is have your friend log out of your account and change your password.
Do you have a back up from when you had the contacts on your phone.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
You can only locate your device when it is logged into iCloud and 'Find My Phone' is enabled, additionally the device will need to be switched on and connected to a wifi or cellular network.
Unfortunately, you cannot activate iCloud or 'Find My Phone' remotely.

You likely have iCloud turned on in at least Safari. If you don't want Safari to sync between these devices turn one of them off. System Preferences - iCloud - Safari (uncheck the box)

  • I can't download any app into my iPAD, but I have no problem downloading app into my iPhone. Using same Apple ID for both my iPAD and iPhone.

    HELP!
I couldn't download any app into my iPAD. Puzzled by this strange condition, I tried downloading the same chosen app into my iPhone. It worked!
I use the same Apple ID for both my iPAD and iPhone. So why is it not working for my iPad? Previously, both devices were working fine!
I hope that somebody can help me solve this problem.

Do the apps show as installed on the Purchased tab in the App Store app ? If they show as installed, then have you got any restrictions set on Settings > General > Restrictions (e.g. Allowed Content > Apps) that might be hiding them ?
You could try closing the App Store app completely and then seeing if it downloads after you re-open it : from the home screen (i.e.not with the App Store app 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the App Store app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
You could also try a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.
And try logging out, and then back in, with your iTunes account : Settings > Store

You need to setup different Receive At addresses for iMessage.
If you don't want the same pics on each, turn off PhotoStream.

I have switched from using a PC to an iMac and want to know how to register Lightroom 5.7 for new Mac?

Are you on CC or standalone perpetual licence?
If the former I believe you merely download LR from the CC site onto your iMac and log in and off you go.
If the latter, download LR onto your Mac from the perpetual licence site (not the CC version), install it and use the same licence number as with your PC.

The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.
How to Calibrate Your Mac, iPhone, or iPad Battery
    http://www.macblend.com/how-to-calibrate-your-mac-iphone-or-ipad-battery/
At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery (25 watt-hours) will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery (42 watt-hours), so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. If you are using your iPad while charging, it will take even longer. It's best to turn your new iPad OFF and charge over night.
