I'm rubbish at this...

Hi All
Now I know I'm a complete virgin at this DW stuff. I use DW8,
and although my pages look OK in the preview ), I cannot get the
devils to upload properly. the response in the log is (I think)
"Access Denied. The file may not exist, or there could be a
permission problem." I've tried to look on other threads but I
think I'm missing a trick here... My home page
shimwells.co.uk/index file is up there, no problem., so the ftp bit
is doing it's job. It also says the files are there when I look at
remote view, but the shimwells.co.uk/video page is not (don't get
excited - there's no vid, and what I have planned ain't too
thrilling either.)
Finally if I want to play .flv vid, I believe i need to set
the site to recognise those files at server level (checked a couple
of threads, oh yes), but it still doesn't like it. Any clues?

Have you upgraded to 8.0.2? Previously in this thread you
refer to DW8. If
you upgrade you will be asked if you wish to (can't remember
the phrase
exactly) allow DW to update scripts, say "yes" and it should
be OK, upload
the scripts folder again.
Having said that - please post back tomorrow if somebody with
more
experience than I has not responded

I have downloaded a JSF example login.war
I m using tomcat5 that has come with JWSDP1.3
when i placed it in webapps folder and started tomcat
the example is working fine
Then i stoped tomcat and renamed login.war file to login2.war
and started tomcat
i m getting nothing(HTTP 400)
and also this(error) is not from tomcat
I also extracted login.war to some folder login
deleted login.war placed login foder in webapps
started tomcat
The example is running fine
Again stoped tomcat renamed the folder to login3
and started tomcat
again i get same error
whats going on ............?

Not sure where you got the login.war demo from but check the configuration files and make sure that there isn't a reference to the /login domain. It may be possible that there is some configuaration that is expecting the webapp to be in the "/login" domain.

BT Vision box update is RUBBISH

How rubbish is this? After a week of having a call logged with BT Vision, because my box wont scan for channels since the update, what happened? Nothing. No message, no progress, no help at all. Obviously BT don't give a sh*t and just after I upgraded to Infinity. I give up. Off to Sky, which I'm gutted about.

Emptying Trash is rubbish

It used to be, in the pre-snow leopard days, that emptying the trash was a non event. It just worked quickly and consistently.
With snow leopard, it's a dangerous affair. It takes ages (5++ minutes), it hangs while it spawns a Locum process which runs at 198% CPU utilisation, the imac heats up, the fan switches in. Its rubbish.
This has nothing to do with secure/unsecure empty. It's just as bad with both. The only safe way to empty trash is using the terminal command line.
Surely It can't be that hard to implement.
Has anyone experienced this and solved it. if so how

If a hard disk becomes too full it can make simple system operations take forever. Maybe what triggered this is your attempting to trash a certain large file you shouldn't have, and its being stuck in the process trying to delete each time you empty the trash. First take a look here*

One thing many delete thinking it is maintenance, which it is not, is system cache files. These actually are important for the system to run fast. Strangely, so called "maintenance" tools like Onyx, Macaroni and others do this as part of their "one trick pony" approaches to system maintenance. Vast numbers of undeletable voice memos on iphone?

I have no less than 3388 voice memos, including huge numbers of duplicates and occupying 9.6 Gb, that are visible via iTunes on my iPhone4 but do not appear in iTunes on my mac. There seems to be absolutely no way to delete this pile of useless rubbish. They have nothing to do withrecording voice memos, because I have almost never used this app. There appears to be a serious bug (one of many it seems) in the Apple synchronising software - or something. The really bad thing is that this great lump of putrid apple is occupying nearly half the iPhone memory! How I wish there was a proper built-in explorer/finder app where we could delete rubbish like this - but this does not suit the fascist Apple "we know best, little children" approach to its customers.

Much in the same boat here... Did you ever figure anything out? I have contemplated hooking my IPhone up tp a digital voice recorder, recording each memo, then transferring them to the computer and importing them into my ITunes or Evernote account.

Itunes refuses to recognise my ipad telling me that i need to uninstall itunes and reinstall the itunes 64bit version for windows - i am on windows 7 and all was working fine until suddenly for no reason at all itunes had some apple support error

I have windows 7 and all has been fine until 2 days ago when suddenly i turned on my laptop and i got some error message about some apple support program error - i didnt tkae notice of it only that i couldnt run itunes, so i uninstalled and reinstalled itunes and it now runs as normal, but now it wont recognise my ipad saying that 64bit version is not installed - WHAT RUBBISH IS THIS? i downloaded and installed the 64bit version from applie and yet the error persists - can some one please tell me how i can get itunes to recognise my ipad again - this seems like such a ridiculous error for these two apple products to be conflicting with each other - please help

well i have found that i needed to not just uninstall itunes, but also apple mobile device support, bonjour apple software update and apple application support - uninstall all these and then install itunes - that seesm to have fixed it, though now i am sync fail - that's a different matter perhaps

My review: N95 Firmware v20, one day old!

Well - I have flashed the firmware and been using my "new" (for it certainly seems like a new phone) N95 all day now. It has only crashed once (curiously enough clicking on the top right link on the http://mosh.nokia.com page, a small green right-facing arrow). I certainly can't claim that level of stability with my desktop PC... so my one crash is par for the course, and very impressive indeed!
As many people have mentioned, there is a lot more free RAM now. Exactly how much is really immaterial as it is the enhanced capability of the phone which has resulted from this boost that matters. As a pretty exhaustive test I did the following:
Whilst on speaker phone to my business partner he sent me an email to my Hotmail account.
I opened up the messaging app and went to my Windows Live mail box.
I opened the email and downloaded an 85k Word document attachment on it.
The QuickOffice viewer opened the Word file.
Within the Word file was a web link - I needed to look at this and so copied it to the clipboard.
Returning to the menu I opened the browser and navigated to the link from the clipboard. The page was laden with graphics and a tonne of text. I zoomed to 50% and scanned through to read the information I needed.
Leaving the browser open, and just for the hell of it, I went to the menu and launched Widsets which duly connected to my WLAN and loaded up my widgets. I scrolled to the Darla Mack Mobile blog widget and opened it up, selecting the first story within (about the v20 firmware, of course!). This news post had a 70% of screen sized image on the page too.
Throughout all of this I changed screen orientation a number of times using both the slider and the option in the browser's menu. I also had a call blacklist application, as well as the excellent MobiGenie voicemail application running in the background at all times.
Before I closed everything down, I loaded Y-Task's memory module to see how much RAM was free - 6.7M of free RAM!!! Now that's what I'm talking about!!!!
I'd just like to say to anyone anywhere who has ever harboured or proffered the opinion that "it's a phone, it's not meant to do all that" or some variant thereof - what absolute rubbish! This new firmware has made the phone multi-taskable to such an extent that at last, the N95's slogan "it's what computers have become" can at last ring true!!
As for battery usage improvements, the fullness of time will reveal whether it really makes an impact. In the mean time, today, I have tested it as follows:
I have performed a firmware upgrade(!)
I took three backups on PC Suite via content copier
Used USB Mass transfer to copy 370MB of data from my memory card, via the phone
Installed 30 applications to the phone
Restored data to the phone (and subsequently reformatted the phone!) 3 times
Played with the web browser for 50+ mins on WiFi.
Chatted on MSN Messenger for around 30 minutes
Took 8 photos at 5MP each, most with flash
Played around in general with the phone for about 3 hours, on and off
Performed the aforementioned uber-test on the phone
Spoken in total for (according to my log) 2h09m
Sent 9 text messages
Watched one streaming video from my gallery, lasting 6 mins
My battery has JUST, after all of that, hit the low battery warning. I think that you'll agree that's an impressive performance for the N95. This is all with the phone set to lowest brightness, non 3G mode etc. to conserve maximum power of course, so that extra jolt of power that the N95 8Gb batteries have would still not go amiss... I suspect that I'd have been able to do a lot less if I was using high speed mobile networks for the data tasks I listed above.
The camera is also very much improved, about 3-4 times faster overall. It seems to produce better quality images with finer resolution of individual pixels. I think (?) they have increased focal length on macro shots from 10-40cm to 60cm (I could be wrong there). The update massively reduced shot-to-shot time and the simple addition of the processing image message really improves the process no end, curiously enough! Also, there is funny gray line grid mode (er, what's this acutally for??).
There are numerous tweaks here and there, like new sub-folders in the menus (very handy indeed) and new versions of some apps.
There are some rather glaring omissions however:
Nothing has been done with the accelerometer functions, no auto-rotate or tilt-navigation (a la RotateMe / Nokmote).
Videos and photos are still grouped together in the gallery and the 'albums' feature feels a bit like an afterthought (at the very least I would expect folders or album icon or something to show up in the photo/video stream).
There is still no control over compression of JPEG images from the camera (although this will probably be a minor issue to many).
The slider menu (which Darla Mack quite rightly commented on) from the N81 which allows you to set up how the slider action causes your phone to behave - where is it? This is such an obvious requirement for the N95 and has been the frequent cause of complaints on many forums since the N95's launch
There are a number of applications / software features, for example the multimedia menu, which are already present on other phones which have not been included here. Indeed I believe that some of the core apps from the N95 8GB are more advanced still... given the mess Nokia made of the N95-1 it would seem only courteous to have provided a full set of the latest core apps and menus
There are many other niggles, but I'm going to leave those ones down to personal tastes. That and the fact that I'm a software designer myself, so I'm always likely to think I can see a better way to do it!
To sum up, this firmware update was very much needed and overdue. Nokia's handling of this issue and of it's customers has been appalling. Making people wait for 5 months without word, having superceded a very flawed and expensive phone was not, under any stretch of the imagination, a good way to go about things.
Now that it v20 is here, the N95 flies! It is suddenly reborn and I'm so glad I own it now. It works beautifully and is so stable... it really is a pleasure to use now. I'm glad of my memory card slot and camera lens cover - I wouldn't trade this up for an N95 8gb or anything else I've seen on the market now! (yes that includes you iPhone!! ;P )
My final thought on all of this? Thank Jebus they fixed the infernal keypress bug!!! XD

To be fair, this update addresses nearly all of the concerns that we've had. It specifically addresses the top 2 concerns - memory handling and the poor performance of the camera application, slow load times and processing times.
There are a bunch of other updates as well which are just icing on the cake.
I think through 3rd party programs you can achieve most of what you are trying to do. I'm sure the n95 will recieve yet another update. The attention they have put into updating the phone to support the music store and ngage means that it will recieve additional bug fixes, especially once they begin to get a revenue stream from these new services being launched in december.
I think the n95 if anything has been shown to be a winning device. I believe it will continue to have Nokia's support due to the fact that it is one of the most capable devices in the lineup. I believe the 5 month development time since the last update is due to how comprehensive the overhaul of the firmware has been. Now that version 20 is out, we will see smaller incremental updates. The tough part (overhauling the memory system and operating system, better battery management etc) is over.
I'm really enjoying my device now.

File Download results with corrupted file. End of File problem

I am tring to make a download program. I am tring to download an exe file from internet. Lets say the file in this website

The part that helps me downloading is here, which is encapsulated with a "while" statement at an upper layer. So that code is a loop

Here is my debug results for my integer read in the code: 1024 1024 1024 ....................... 512 0 0 0 0 0 ......, So till the end of the file it continues as 1024 which is my default buffer size, and at the end it continues as 0.

Internet download - unknown publisher error message

Hi
I am having problems when I download from the internet, I get a windows error message saying unknown publisher, also my internet pages show error on page, some of the page is missing or it is full of rubbish. This has only been happening for the last few days, but it is appears on every download, I have tried to restore but it only goes back 5 days.

thanks for your response but I cannot download Firefox, I have reduced my security settings, disabled the antivirus and I am still getting the same message
I don't know what to do now other than through the thing out of the window, nearly every internet page has an error message now, or it just does not download properly, I have even tried saving the files to my desktop and running as the administrater but I am still getting the same message as before and then the programme just closes, I don't even get the option to download anyway.

Does iOS 8 fix the wifi 'grayed out' bug in iPhone 4S?

I have an iPhone 4S which is running iOS 7.1.2 . Apparently, the wifi was working before upgrading to ios 7.1.2 (from ios 6.1.3). The wifi option is 'Grayed out" in the Settings app and my Mac address is seen as 'N/A' . There are so many 'fixes' for it two of which are temporary (freezer fix and blow dryer fix) It's a really big inconvenience to not have a wifi connection especially when downloading some big files. For those who have used iOS 8 on their iphone 4S (developers et al) does the new and improved iOS version fix this bug? It's nerve racking because I dont know how to save SHSH blobs meaning I cant downgrade from iOS 7.1.2 to iOS 6.1.3 just to get my wifi working. My best bet right now is that iOS 8 will have a fix for this problem. Buying another iPhone is not an option for me right now as my cash is tied up in some projects. Please help.

I don't know if these helps but I'm going to describe what happened to me with these, first I must say I have an iphone 4S which when bought, the wifi was working fine. The Wifi grayed issue started happening right after I updated IOS version 7.1.1 to 7.1.2. At first I noticed the phone was becoming slow as **** and that my phone won't connect to any Wifis, so I switched my wifi off and my phone became fast again. If I happened to turn the wifi on again my iphone would just become slow again.
I went an try to look up the issue solution on internet forums and apple support page but noone seems to have definitive solution. Now I read the hairdryer and freezer method, but I don't trust it since, as apple points out, might lead to hardware damage but it kinda make sense to me that something might be wrong with the wifi chip. I read in another forum that if I just erase or restore (I can't quite remember right now the right name) the network configuration it might solve the problem, but it seems it doesn't work either.
I ran out of options and just waited for IOS 8 to come out and correct the problem, but it didn't. So I came to the conclusion that this is in no way, a hardware problem unless update 7.1.2 just damage hundreds or perhaps thousands of iphone 4S, which I think is rubbish. This is without a question a software issue, might be some software incompatibility with the iphone 4s wifi chip.
So to summarize all of these, what happened to me was:
1) iphone 4S is version 7.1.1 - WiFi works OK
2) Iphone 4S updates to version 7.1.2 - Wifi no longer works
3) Iphone 4S updates to version 8.0 - Wifi still doesn't work
I tried the following to solve the issue:
1) Reboot the device - Fail
2) Restore Network configuration - Fail (grayes out the wifi)
3) Update to IOS 8.0 - Fail
4) Turn on Airplane mode and after 20 seconds off - (ungrayes the wifi but still cannot connect to any wifi)
What I am currently experiencing with IOS 8.0 (it happened also with 7.1.2)
1) Trying to open "Settings" if wifi is on - it is slow 70% of the time
2) Trying to open "Settings" if wifi is off - Opens up normally
3) Trying to open "Settings>Wifi" if wifi is on - opens awfully slow and no wifi is listed
4) Trying to open "Settings>Wifi" if wifi is off - opens up normally
I hope these helps you apple guys, please fix this issue as my iphone is spending my data plan since I cannot longer use WiFi.

Hi there all,
this is my first post as for the first time I own a "ThinkPad". This is so cool device. I love color, keyboard,slim design etc. But as we all know nothing is perfect and no exception here - which is horrible TN display I got with in my laptop. Its just a disaster!!! I can't see any other people's posts about it, maybe I am different here.
I checked my system with HWINFO 64 and it gave me some information about LCD I have:
model: LEN40D1
Monitor Name B116XW03 V1
From this monitor my eyes are stinging from 30 minis of use. I can notice very well some vertical line across the whole screen. Colors and contrast are awful not to mention viewing angles. I also user 10 incher asus 1005p which has far more better LCD and its a netbook!
I would like to ask a question here: HOW this is possible that lenovo is installing such a crap TN RUBBISH in this laptop. its is such a nice device that i really like but unfortunately I am after creating RMA for return. Very disappointed with the product ((((

X-Fi install clears System32 files!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok I bought a SB X-Fi extreme music in Feb and installed on my PC which had been running fine for some months. I recently had to re-format and reinstall XP. I updated Windows first and then put the X-Fi software on. I did this FIVE times, each time after installing the Creative software I lost System32 files, one was HAL.dll and I can't remember the others. The first signs were the monitor going on and off, sometimes saying "no signal" but then windows appearing, then the system freezes or reboots itself, it either tells me that a file is missing or just doesn't boot after the motherboard flash screen. If I re-install, when I get to the partition manager it doesn't show a previous installation of windows, it just says "unknown".What can I do?? Head is spinning so can't remember what it said but it came up with something about repairing the partition (not chkdsk) so I did this, then chose the repair windows option. Ok, now it goes through loads of rubbish saying this file is corrupt and that file is corupt and to run chkdsk to fix it but they were all about my D: dri've.ok finally after much HD activity windows appears. Got some vector error messages so I switched off fully and re booted. All ok except all of the creative programs had the unrecognisable file icons. I ignored it all, thinking "leave Creative alone for a while". I installed Zonelabs Internet Security Suite, for some reason it ditched it in the "repair", rebooted and all the Creative programs appeared in full with sound working fine. Anyway it looks like it's ok now.

Ignore a group of faces

After upgrading to Photos you still can't ignore a group of faces. In addition my entire photo library was rescanned and now I have to ignore faces all over again. Also I have no idea how many faces have yet to be identified.

From my limited experience, you'll have to go through EACH unrecognised face and right click to ignore it. You cannot select multiple faces and ignore them as a batch.
Furthermore, the faces are now, I assume, sorted based on the number of photos associated with it thereby making it very difficult to find a face in the crowd.
As bad as iPhoto was, and no matter how in need of an upgrade, this new app is absolutely rubbish.
This time it doesn't "just work".

I want to be able to run a report that shows me

I then would like to show Invoice Doc total - Credits by U_SORT01.
The reports I keep building shows me some false lines.
So far I can build the 2 reports on their own please see below

You have to just make a difference calculation.....

Intel iMac Dual Display System Slow Down

When I connect a standard VGA 17" monitor to my iMac intel 17" 1Gb RAM as a second monitor (not mirrored) the system seems to slow down. I'm using a mini dvi to vga adapter. My graphics card is a 128Mb ATI Radeon X1600.
For example if i open a couple of boxes (i.e. firefox and finder) and use expose to split them apart, where it was smooth before it now jitters. And Final Cut gives dropped frame warnings only when the second monitor is connected.
Is there something i'm doing wrong or is this to be expected?

Thanks for your advice. I suspected it might be a ram thing. I plan to upgrade to 2Gb (shame that's the limit). hopefully that'll fix it.
So could the hardrive also make a difference? I have the standard 150Gb drive. Can this be changed in a 17" iMac? Also where you said "look at the size of your hard drive and any setting for swap".. do you mean theres a setting I could change or that I should get another drive? (sorry i'm a bit rubbish on this side of things)
oh and it's Final Cut Pro (UB) i'm using
