The computer has to be authorized for the account that purcchased the media.
What error message are you getting when you try to lauthorize the computer for that account?
Is there a way to find my Apple ID Name if I can't remember it?
Yes. Visit My Apple ID and click Find your Apple ID. See Finding your Apple ID if you'd like more information.
How do I change or recover a forgotten Apple ID Password?
If you've forgotten your Apple ID Password or want to change it, go to My Apple ID and follow the instructions. SeeChanging your Apple ID password if you'd like more information.

  • Trying to use itunes uniquely between 2 different ipods/users on one PC

    hello
I have recently installed itunes/my ipod (shuffle) onto my user setup in windows XP - I installed it in My Documents instead of the default - because I knew my sister had her ipod (20 gig 3g)/itunes on there under the default SO I thought installing it again under my docs would give me my own unique version.
However - my sister then went on later to charge her ipod and found she couldnt access Itunes - It was looking for it under her documents - I guess my installation has confused things and she cant access my docs obviously, anyway.
    What should I do?
just delete my Itunes (ive only put 1 album on there) and let her install it again on the default?
Will this connect again with her itunes music stored in her music? and ultimately will we open it to our OWN librarys/settings etc, when all is sorted?
    Kind Regards
      Windows XP

It sounds like you have three file management issues.
You want separate Libraries, which are usually My Docs/My Music/iTunes, but can be set to land somewhere else in Preferences.
You should make a copy of that folder now to backup the other user's info.
You want separate playlists and play counts etc, which come out of the .itl and .xml files, which seem to be hardwired to land in My Docs/My Music/iTunes, unless you change the definition of the My Music folder using a program like TweakUI, which I don't think you have to do.
Then I think your issue has become the location of the program files. The program files that launch iTunes usually live in something like C:\Program Files\iTunes\ It sounds like these are the files you installed to My Docs, so your other user cannot get to them to launch the program.
    My recommendation would be to
1.)back up the songs of the other user by copying their c:/documents and settings/username/username's documents/username's music/ folder (assuming that's where your other user's music landed)
    2.) disconnect all iPods
3.) then uninstall iTunes and QuickTime under your account
    4.) reboot
4.) Login as the other user, then re-install with the program files landing in the usual C:\program files location and the library files landing in their default spots.
And after that, the other user's library should be in their my docs/my music/itunes folder and yours should be in yours, with the shared program files located in the C:\program files location.
    Cheers!

  • ITunes sharing between two users on same computer

i've tried searching for this, but i guess i don't know how to search it properly. What i need to do is have the itunes library of a different user account show up as a shared library on my main account (and visa versa) without having the laptop connected to a network.
Right now i have a lot of recordings for work in an itunes library of a different user account that i will need from time to time when teaching. i'd like to be able to have that show up as a shared library, and have my main library shared in the other user account so that i don't have to switch back and forth all the time. Using Tiger this worked like a charm, but with Leopard they only seem to share when my powerbook is connected to a network. i don't have a network connect at work nor am i likely to get one. Is there a setting i am missing?

All the files are on the computer, right, not external drives? And all the accounts you want to share between can Share their Libraries AND Look for Shared Libraries? And iTunes is running in each user account?
I have to say I've never used this WITHOUT an internet connection as I have 'always on' broadband, but I cannot imagine why it would need a network when it's between users on the same computer.

  • Using Disk Mode between Mac & Windows Computers

My friend called after Christmas elated that he had received a new iPod video from his wife (my kind of wife!). He conneceted it to his eMac and iTunes did its thing loading his music library onto the new iPod. Next, he enabled DISK MODE and dropped some files onto the iPod. Later, he connected the iPod to a Windows XP computer and tried to retrieve the files, but could not. Windows' iTunes wanted to reformat the iPod.
If a Mac or a Windows PC has formated the iPod's drive, can the iPod not share files in disk mode between the two platforms?
I have successfully used portable USB flash drives between platforms, but I suspect that once iTunes has added music to an iPod, its DISK MODE cannot be used between Mac and Windows because iTunes formatted the drive somehow for its specific operating system.
I wonder, though...if he were to tell iTunes to use 100% of the iPod for DISK MODE files, would the iPod then become like my USB flash drive exaple discussed above? Then no problem between platforms?
    STEVE

If an iPod is formatted for Mac it won't run natively on a PC because the Windows OS does not support the HFS Plus file system and therefore will not see the drive. Macs can read Windows drives so a Windows formatted iPod can be used on a Mac. There are third party programs that will allow you to use a Mac formatted iPod on Windows, MacDrive and XPlay for instance get good reviews. XPlay is specifically for connecting an iPod, MacDrive for connecting any Mac formatted drive:

  • Using home sharing between pc and iphone

I have enable home sharing and the option does not show up on the right side of itunes. how can i get this to show and also transfer music from my pc to my iphone wirelessly.  Thanks.

When you turn on Home Sharing on your PC you will only see the Sharing option in the sidebar if other computers on your network also have iTunes running with Home Sharing turned on as well.
As for how to get it to work on your iPhone go into Settings on your iPhone and scroll down to Music. Tap on the Music settings button. On the Music screen, in the Home Sharing section enter the Apple ID and password that you use on your PC.
Now go back to your Home screen. Launch the Music app. Tab on the More button on the bottom of the screen. On the More screen tap on the Shared button. You should see a list of all available shared iTunes libraries on your network. Make sure iTunes is running on on your PC with home Sharing turned on. You should now see all the music on your PC's shared library. You will not however be able to wirelessly transfer the music from the shared library to your iPhone. You will only be able to play it.

  • I accidently erased all the music from my iPod and it isn't in my iTunes because I just got a new computer.

I was trying to transfer the music from my iPod to my new iTunes via a third party program, and I ended up erasing all of the music from my iPod.  I am unable to get onto the iTunes on my old computer, where all my music was stored, and the iTunes on my new computer, of course, has nothing in it.  So now I have no music on either my iPod or iTunes.  At this point, I don't really care about the things I didn't purchase from iTunes.  I'm just wondering if there is any way to get all the music back that I've purchased from iTunes in the past without having to purchase it again, other than by downloading it.

You don't have to purchase it again, but you do have to download it.  See Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2519

  • How can I use home sharing between our iphones (create playlists from both accounts at once)

How can I use home sharing between our iphones, so that we can create playlists with songs from both of our libraries?  We share a Macbook Pro (separate accounts) and each have the new iphone, but when I have my iphone and try to create a new playlist, I can only grab songs from one account.  Is there a way to create a playlist using both accounts since we are sharing?
Does it have to be created within iTunes first on our Mac?

The short answer: because Home Sharing isn't designed for sharing apps, and apps aren't designed to be shared.
The longer answer:  Think of it like this...
You download some music in iTunes.  With Home Sharing, another user can listen to it by streaming it over the network.  But the data itself is on your computer.  If you turn off the computer or take it off the network, the other user can't access it.
But if you send another user the app, they aren't just streaming the data- they installed it on their iOS device.  Because they weren't the one that purchased it, such a transfer could easily be considered "piracy" or "stealing," and nobody likes that (least of all, Apple).
When iTunes sees this app, it obviously recognized it, as if saying, "Hey, how did you get this app on your device, if I have no record of you purchasing/downloading it from the iTunes store?"

  • I am trying to use home sharing with my computer and someone's ipad, will i still be able to transfer stuff in the library like it normally does on two computers

I want to share the library from my friend itunes to my computer but I am not using a computer to share I am using an iPad 2. Am I still going to be able to transfer the library from the iPad to my computer

    Hi ashleymartinsmith!
I have an article for you that may help you understand Home Sharing a little better:
    Understanding Home Sharing
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3819
Home Sharing in iTunes is designed to let you easily share your iTunes media libraries between up to five computers in your household. You can also use Home Sharing to play your iTunes content on your iOS devices and Apple TV (2nd generation) if they are connected to your home Wi-Fi network.
The important thing to note here is that all connected devices must be on the same Wi-Fi network for Home Sharing to be functional. Thanks for coming to the Apple Support Communities!

  • TS2972 is it possible to use home sharing between two users on the same computer?

My wife and I have itunes accounts and want to be able to share music we have each bought on our accounts. We have tried setting up the home sharing on our PC but it doesn't show up on the screen. Can anyone please help?

"Is it possible to use home sharing between two users on the same computer?"
No. Home sharing is used to connect two running instances of iTunes across a network. When you switch users on the computer all applications running on the other profile are suspended.
You can however share your respective media folders so that they are visible in either profile and then copy over any content that you want, or you could create a single joint library which you use when either user is logged in.

  • HT1473 Had to "repair" Itunes today after error messages would not let me open. I can no longer sync my phone to computer without deleting all of the contect on my phone. I don't want to do that! I am trying to get the music from my Iphone to my Itunes li

    Little background:
Went to open Itunes, error message told me I was missing files and I was unable to open. I deleted Itunes and re-downloaded and received same message. I then "repaired" Itunes from my "unistall/change" program menu. The error message then changed to being "unable to read my library of music." So I fixed that by following some other forum directions (Went to My Computer/Music/Itunes then dragged the most recent Itunes Library selection to my desktop, then opened the folder under music titled "Previous Itunes library" and moved that file into that folder. Thankfully that worked... sort of... I have some music in my library. None of the music from my super old Limewire library, or any recent music from my phone. All of which was in my library last night. Not to mention the HOURS of cd's I burned to Itunes over the entire weekend. Hundreds (at least) of songs are missing.
So I attempted to sync my phone and was told it would delete all of the files in my phone to replace with files from my computer. Which is NOT what I want to happen. Trying to get music FROM my phone to my computer.
Can someone please help me simply sync my phone to my computer? And then somehow get the music from my Limewire library to my Itunes library? I know I may not get the burned music back... But that sure would be amazing.
I am at a loss. Apple won't help unless I pay them... So hopefully this looks familiar to someone!
    Thanks,
    Katie

This happens if the file is no longer where iTunes expects to find it. Possible causes are that you or some third party tool has moved, renamed or deleted the file, or that the drive it lives on has had a change of drive letter. It is also possible that iTunes has changed from expecting the files to be in the pre-iTunes 9 layout to post-iTunes 9 layout,or vice-versa, and so is looking in slightly the wrong place.
Select a track with an exclamation mark, use Ctrl-I to get info, then cancel when asked to try to locate the track. Look on the summary tab for the location that iTunes thinks the file should be. Now take a look around your hard drive(s). Hopefully you can locate the track in question. If a section of your library has simply been moved, or a drive letter has changed, it should be possible to reverse the actions.
Alternatively, as long as you can find a location holding the missing files, then you should be able to use my FindTracks script to reconnect them to iTunes .

  • I've twice tried to use iTunes match. It stalls in step 2. I've rebooted my Mac computer and still stalls. Apple's taken the $25 but not delivered the service. Can I get some personal help?

I've twice tried to use iTunes match. It stalls in step 2. I've rebooted my iMac computer and it still stalls. Apple's taken the $25 but not delivered the service. Can I get some personal help? There are 12,733 songs, a few dozen of which are not going to be in the Apple music library because they are unique to my collection. Also, some titled "Track XX" and no artist. I assume these would either not upload or else just be uploaded. But, after an overnight of step 2, the iTunes match program was still on song number 7384 or 12733 (it was on that number for over 12 hours). Looking in the music library, activating the iCloud icon and status fields, there were hundreds of songs with the status "waiting."

I am able to use my computer in Safeboot mode (only)
Well it could still be a software problem if you installed a third party program after the OS X wipe and install, because by booting into Safe Mode it disables certain functions of OS X and hardware. Check for updates or problems for all your third party software, include everything, including menulets, System Preference panes, hacks and so forth.
If you restored any sort of software from backup like TimeMachine, it likely was corrupted data and now is returned.
If the college tech support found a lot of dust clogging the rear exhaust vents behind the fans, then likely the heat damage done to the machine has already occured and can't be reversed. Video cards are usually first to go, which Safe Mode does disable the video card somewhat.
Run through this list of fixes, it's systematic in nature, also has a Hardware Test to see what's going on
..Step by Step to fix your Mac
Too bad this is occurring to a mere 4 year old machine, but dust will do that. Here is the culprit that Apple doesn't tell anyone about.
