I-Mac is on, but the screen is blank

I turned on my mac today, the initial white screen came on as usual, the start up tone went off, and then the screen went completely blank.
I can hear it is still on, and when I press keys, such as volume, they all sound but I can't see anything?
I've tried switching it off and pressing control, option, p,r ... and that didn't change anything.
I've tried unpluggging it, and pressing the on button for 5 seconds, that didn't work either ...
I don't really know what to do.
I accidently switched on voice over the other day, and although I've got the voice to switch off, I can still hear occasional noises from that, so I don't know if that is an issue?

The screen is black. I intially didn't reply, because after I posted last week, it5 suddenly switched back on again and worked as if there was never a problem (apart from the fact I couldn't adjust the brightness level for a day)...
I have just pulled out the plug (I can't see to shut it down properley) and then started it up again with the OS X DVD, I was holding down C as I switched it on. It stayed on the white "I'm thinking about it screen" for a long time, while the disc was whurring away.
Eventually the screen turned to black again, and the disc stopped making noises. Then it stayed black and the disc started doing ...something again.
Still can't see anything.
Someone suggested that this happens if you leave the computer on too long ...

    I have the same problem.
I think there's a problem with the update server. Try again later.

After downloading the latest version of iTunes, the store will not load. It appears as if it has loaded, but the screen remains blank.

I have the same problem and have been fighting with it for several days. I think the last thing that I did before this happened was to let Quicktime update itself. When I open itunes and click on store, the connecting bar gets halfway and then stops. That leaves me with the white store page, if I leave it alone for a bit, I see words as in names of singers and but no pictures.
I have ran the diagnostics and see no problems at all, no event logs in windows, no errors at all. I've un-installed itunes and re-installed but no change. I'm using Norton 360 from comcast. I have windows 7 pro 64 bit. Also, the help in itunes doesn't display.
I put in a ticket with apple and the response I got back basically told me to do what I've already done. I created a new user and have the same issue.
Any help at all will be very much appreciated. I think this started August. 8, 2011.

  • NB200-10Z powers up but the screen is blank

    Hi
    i have a Toshiba netbook NB200-10Z.
It powers up but the screen is blank.
Can anyone help me coz i don't know the cause to it

    Hi
    Try this:
Remove the battery and disconnect the AC adaptor.
Then wait a little bit (1 hour should be enough)
Then connect both parts again and try to power up your NB200.
If its not a serious issue, then your NB200 should power up properly.
Otherwise its a serious issue and you will need an professional help from an ASP technician.

    Hello Dennisom,
The troubleshooting detailed below can help get your iPod Touch to charge.
If your battery doesn't charge, or if your device shows a low-battery image, black screen, or "accessory not supported" alert, follow these steps.
Inspect the connector at the bottom of the phone:
Make sure that there are no bent pins in the connector.
Make sure that the connector is free from debris.
If there are bent pins or debris, please contact Apple Support.
    Otherwise, continue troubleshooting.
Make sure that the outlet you're using works.
Make sure that the Apple USB cable and Apple USB power adapter work.
Plug the device in to power and let it charge until your device turns on. This could take between 10 and 30 minutes. If you don't have an Apple USB power adapter, try connecting to a computer's high-power USB 2.0 port (not a keyboard). The computer must be on.
If the device still exhibits an issue, try turning your device off and then on again while connected to power.
If the issue persists, please contact Apple Support.

  • HT1338 My Mac Pro boots but the screen shows pixels and squares

    Is this the grahics card?
I noticed a few weeks ago that my mac pro powered itself off, i didnt really think anything of it at the time as it was in sleep mode as i was away from it for a few hours.
Because i know systems collect dust over time each year i clean them out using either compressed air cans or a mini compressor to blow all the dust out, because it powered off i thought it maybe a build up of dust so i cleaned it out.
Then took it in and booted it up and lal appeared to be ok.
Then about a week ago i booted it up and then the screen went all pixelated and in square sections.
I checked everything is seated correctly and removed the ram, hard drives, graphics card and reseted them, some times it boots ok and then goes to these screens, other times it sits at these on boot.
Any ideas or help would be most appreciated.
    Thanks
    Trev

    sidthebeau,
among the possibilities are a display that no longer works; a GPU that no longer works; and an internal cable between the display and the logic board that no longer works. If you have an external monitor that you can connect to your MacBook Pro, you can find out whether the GPU still works. If it runs well with an external monitor, then you can run the Apple Hardware Test to see if another problem might be responsible. If not, visit your closest Apple store or other qualified service facility for a full diagnostic test.

  • My second gen iPod touch has a blank screen, and won't turn on or charge in an AC outlet. When plugged into iTunes, it is completely recognized and synced, but the screen remains blank and off. What can I do?

    Hello.
I recently woke up this morning to use my iPod Touch (2nd Gen) to find that it was completely unresponsive to both buttons and would not turn on. I had been using it the night before and had not charged it. Thinking the battery was drained, I plugged it into a wall outlet for two hours, and still no sign of life on the iPod. Plugging it into the computer, it immediately showed up in iTunes and synced normally, and even indicated it had nearly a full charge. Still, however, the screen showed nothing. I checked the lock and home buttons to see if it was stuck, but it was not. Does anyone have an idea of what this is? Do I need to get my iPod repaired? Any help would be appreciated.
I am running iOS 4.1, and am out of warranty coverage.
    Thanks,
    - Justin

1; Do a hard rest by holding the buttons at least 15 seconds. Does the Apple logo come on?
    2. Hold the power button down for at least 5 seconds. Do you see the battery symbol?
If the answer is no to both questions, you most likely have a hardware issue--possible bad battery.

  • TS1382 ipod will play music but the screen is blank

The ipod will play music but I can not see the screen. It remains blank.

By blank I assume you mean completely white is that correct?
If none of the usual 5 R's of troubleshooting do any good, you'll need to have the iPod either serviced or replaced as the LCD screen or ribbon cable is damaged or faulty.
