I need a Mentor!!

I am asked all the time, for advice on basic Photoshop CS4, Adobe Elements and even a little Indesign issues, but now I need a little help.
I have a logo for my company, which I have inserted. Now the logo itself is all right but it has a white background. I want to remove this background and make the logo transparent, so I can layer it on top of a graphic and still have the graphic visible through my logo. Is there any way I can do this between Photoshop, InDesign or Illustrator? I have asked a version of this question before but have never been able to fully comprehend the solutions offered.
This is one of those things that I have always wanted to know how to do it and hopefully someone can get me on the right road. Many thanks in advance.
Bob

Okay I am doing this off the top of my head.
1. open the graphic in photoshop
2. open the layers pallet. panel
3. grab the background layer in the layers pallet and drag it down to the new layer icon and release it.
there should now be another layer in the layers pallet.
4. grab the background layer and drag it to the trash can.
there should now only be layer 1 in the pallet.
5. take the magic wand and click in the white background so that you have the little ants running around all of the white outlines.
6. hit the delete key or go to edit and cut or delete.  the white background should now disappear.
walla you should now have your logo on a transparent background. You can now apply "copy and Paste" where you will.
I think?
save as whatever.psd
Thats accurate I just copied your logo and did as above. I posted it here as a png file to save the transpariency. if you copy and past it to your desktop you will see the transparency.

  • Change Color of Image? I need a Mentor!

    Hello to all,
I am really needing some help.
I am trying to build a script that will allow a user who visits a website to change the color of a house.
For an example, when a user visits the site they are able to view a picture of a house with a default color of white. When the click on a button "Roof" the user is able to pick from a select number of roof color options.
Same goes for siding, and trim.
This is for a painting site for a family member that I am trying to help. I am hoping with a web presense in this economy, maybe it will turn things around.
    What I have seen,
I have seen some sites use shape overlays.
So they take an image, and (I am not sure if it is in Flash or Photoshop) they make a cut out of the roof, then they make 10 copies of it in different colors. For some places I have seen them descibe it at frames for each color. Yet I am not sure how you call upon it on click?
Anyways I am very lost and need a mentor.
Here is an example of what I am trying to do, but with a house:

  • Pls i need a mentor

i just started with oracle forms and i am getting all kinds of error messages, as you can imagine. i know i can give up but if io don't have any one to assist me it going to be war for me. my e-mail address is [email protected]

I agree with Francois. This forum is basically for CLARIFICATIONS and ENLIGHTMENT. You can however go to http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/forms/index.html, here you will find introductory content on oracle forms. I do suggest that you familiarize yourself with PL/SQL as well. It is very important. For Detailed Forms and PL/SQL topics, I think you should enroll in a class or you can buy oracle forms books from Amazon and familiarize yourself. Forms is a very straight foward technology to learn and master, if you have the will, you will definately know how to use it.
    Good Luck.
    Eric.

  • Who should be an SAP Mentor? Please nominate! - Deadline 26th. Feb

    Hi all,
The SCN Team is looking for new Mentors.
SAP Mentors are the top community influencers of the SAP Ecosystem. Most mentors work for customers or partners of SAP. All of them are hands-on experts of an SAP product or service, as well as excellent champions for product roll-in and roll-out. They have been nominated by their peers on the basis of their passion for the community and their willingness to contribute and share as well as motivate others.
Please take a look at the Blog here: /people/mark.finnern/blog/2010/02/15/who-should-be-an-sap-mentor-please-nominate
    Or directly
    vote here: http://bit.ly/sapmentornomination
Deadline for the nomination is Friday the 26th of February
    P.S: Top 3 Contributors, of the last 30 days: 1. Gordon Du (1,730); 2. János Nagy (358); 3. Thanga Raj.K (344)

But I don´t like the concept of wikis. I don´t understand who, why, when will change my content. And I don´t want anybody to do that. But these are only my personal feelings and I can work on this.
I am also sceptical about them. I created some wikis, but no one else contributes further to them. It is however the rather "niche" type of wiki.
If you let the people to create these "personal learning paths", people will try.
There was a guy in the MM forums who documented every transaction in SAP by asking for link-farms to anything relating to the tcode. We stopped him too late.
If there were a new mechanism how to do things it would attract people. I can imagine for example Chintan Virani to run his own "Portal school your youngsters" etc.
Probably I would enrole as a fresher. I like Chintan, and in my free time look up to see his recent posts.
My offer stands if you want to do anything security related. If you initiate it, I will join for sure. There are also existing initiatives which you can join - see the functionality wishlist.
One last thing: American presidents ask who should they call to talk with Europe. There is no such number. And there is no such place here on SDN.
Regarding your reference to the "grouping" notion (BEGRU heh??) - I am currently trying to learn Hindi. Actually, Bollycat Urdu. SDN is for me a natural platform to find such people and I have many friends from India met via SDN. I also need a mentor for this but it is tough to achieve without disturbing others in the public realm.
If anyone would like to help me, then we can use the non-English playground forum. The background is to attend TechEd Bangalore 2010 and be able to understand (more or less) what is going on around me.
    Cheers,
    Julius

  • End User Manual_SAP HR

    Dear All,
I am working as a "SAP HR Functional consultant".
Now,I have been given the Assignment of Preparing the End user Manual.
Could you kindly help me by sending some End user manuals [If you have any ] & Also tell me how to prepare
    them?
    Waiting for your early reply.
    Thanks.

    Hi -
An end user manual is a step-by-step guide to using the system, based on the customer's business processes.  So, if you receive any example manuals, you can use them as reference but they won't work verbatim because every client's processes are different.  To create manuals, you need to understand the processes completely and the functionality the customer has implemented and bring the two together so that someone who knows nothing about SAP but understands how the company works can see how they will accomplish their daily tasks using SAP.
Again, it sounds to me like you need a mentor.  The questions you ask are very basic consulting questions - not even SAP specific.  I would contact your manager and let him or her know you are out of your depth and need some support.  This is good for your company's relationship with the client as well - eventually, your client will realize you don't know what you're doing and this will reflect poorly on your company.  I hope I don't sound harsh but this is the case.  I've seen it happen many times.
    Regards,
    Sharon

  • PL/SQL FORM DEVELOPER

    Hi All,
I am interested to work in QUERY related jobs(pl/sql developer). Now I know well about SQL. I completed one certification exam also. Now I dont know what i have to study next for getting query related jobs. Now I am FRESHER(MCA) also.
    Please help me.
    Thanks in Advance.

    Welcome to the forum.
Your question is more appropriate for the 'Community Feedback and Suggestions (Do Not Post Product-Related Questions Here)'-forum:
    Community Feedback (No Product Questions)
Now I dont know what i have to study next for getting query related jobs.No clue in what country you are. So a general answer:
But besides studying, you'll need a mentor, an experienced person who may help you either though his/her network or his/her own belief you're able to do the job.
Now I dont know what i have to study Besides studying, it is important to gain 'real-life' experience.
    OTN forums (where we're now)
and the Oracle Documentation @ http://tahiti.oracle.com
    and AskTom @ http://asktom.oracle.com
will give you many examples and explanations.
Do some searches, your question has been asked before.
But in the end: if you want a job, besides keeping up to date regarding technology, you'll need a network as well, I think that's universal nowadays.
Good luck and all the best.

  • Drop object into word & what is native?

    hi,
i wanted to ask is it possible to create an object in java, say a label, and drag and drop it into MS word?
and what is a native application, is that one written in java or another language?
    Thank you.

I take objection to your use of "chuck"; I think it
    sounds much better this way:
I mean, his odor before you hambone3 him in,
as well as the odor afterwardsNow that is an amusing response!
Do you have any free time? hambone3 needs a mentor. Someone who can spend some time quality time to improve his/her postings.

  • POC - Proof of Concept

    Dear All,
I am Working as a "SAP HR Functional Consultant".
Now,I have been given the Assignment of Preparing "POC - Proof of Concept" for MSS / E.Recruitment/Succession Planning / Performance Management & Organizational Structure.
Could you kindly help me by suggesting on How to prepare POC?
    Waiting for your reply.
    Thanks.

    Hi -
You need to get the baseline requirements and mock it up in the system.  They don't need all the bells and whistles but they need to see that the system will do what they need it do.  When you demo the POC, anything that you don't show, you need to explain how they will handled (e.g., 'I'm going to show you delivered correspondence but obviously, you'll need to customize and have a developer or whatever create the correspondence you need' or 'I know you need manager's approval for this but that's not a delivered workflow in SAP.  You'll need to customize a workflow to read the chief position for each employee who executes this transaction and they will then approve it before it's completed.'
Good luck - sounds like you need a mentor.

  • Want to be Arch developer/contributor.

    Hello,
I have been using Linux for 8 years now and I am a Computer Science student, I believe me that I can program.
I am relatively new to Arch and want to contribute to the community, and want to become a developer.
My idea is to contribute to the project by helping in development. As I am new to Arch I am not familiar with all the internals of Arch and I want to learn it by helping in its development.
Want I need a mentor who can direct people like me who does not know where to start and how to proceed. If anyone can take me as their apprentice, I will be glad to help and contribute.

  • What is up with JAVA

    Dear Experts,
I am new to the Java programming language, and I just purchased the Jbuilder 4 development kit. Everything is going okay; however, I would like to know the advantages of writing in JAVA as opposed to writing in other languages. I pretty much need the complete spiel on the power of the this new language and how it will help me in future, as far as jobs are concerned.
Also, I need a couple of things defined:
    JDK
    JDBC
HOW TO USE JAVA IN CONJUCTION WITH A WEB PAGE - THE INSERTION POINT (IN HTML) AND THE LIKE.
Finally, is J Builder a good tool?
    Thank you group,
    Robert Lawrence Perkins
    P.S. I need a mentor, please help.

Java is by far the best programming language that I've worked with so far. Here're a few of the advantages it has:
1] Portable - Java is portable. That means a program developed under one Operating System will work just fine on a different Operating System. So far only some of the more popular OS's are supported i.e. UNIX, Windows etc. The cliche "write once, run anywhere" is more true for Java than for any other language nad this is a really big plus
2] Object-Oriented - Java is a purely object oriented language. You can find various comparisions between Java and C++. I'll like to point out that for it's time C++ was not bad, but now Java is definitely a better choice
3] Robust - Java is a fairly robust language and has a very rich set of tools for developers. Newer additions are being made to the language at a rapid pace and there's practically nothing that one can't get done with Java
4] Security - Java places a lot of emphasis on security. With the advent of the Internet this is a very big plus again
JDK - Is the acronym for Java Developer's Kit. The JDK consists of the various Application Programming Interfaces (APIs). These APIs enable developers to develop applications rapidly since most of the functionality needed is already provided by the APIs rapidly and "one does not need to reinvent the wheel"
JDBC - Java Database Connectivity is a again an API designed for fast and efficient extraction of data from a Relational Database Management System (RDBMS) using SQL queries
HOW TO USE JAVA IN CONJUCTION WITH A WEB PAGE - THE INSERTION POINT (IN HTML) AND THE LIKE.
There are several ways Java is deployed in conjunction with Web pages. Depending upon the application's requirements you might make use of 'Applets'. You can find more information on applets at
    http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/applet/index.htm
Amongst the other technologies servlets are pretty commonly used. See
    HREF http://java.sun.com/products/servlets
for more information. A good reference book would be "Core Servlets and Java Server Pages" by Marty Hall.
Finally, is J Builder a good tool?
It is a good tool but I think it's utility to a beginner is limited. If you're just starting developing in Java you'll probably be better of starting at scratch. That way, you'll be able to know the language better. Once you acquire enough familiarity with the language then you might want to move to an IDE. This is just my personal opinion. I personally prefer using JEXT for editing most of my stuff and the ubiquituos command-line for compiling and building. You should know what suits you best once you start developing yourself
Future Prospects: This is what lot of people are betting on. With the rapid endorsement of the Java platform definitely there's going to be a lot of progress

  • In need of a basics mentor

Hello, I am doing a senior project for my high school. My project will include a Java program which I will write. I will be needing a long term mentor, for possibly a very long time (up to a year). I know this seems like an amazing commitment but I will only be asking the easiest of questions, if I ask any at all, I do have a basic knowledge of Java. We will need to communicate via E-mail or online chat, preferably E-mail. My coordinator wishes that my mentor has either been certified or has a degree in Java programming.
Please consider this, the project is a requirement for my graduation.

Obligation? Yet another word so gracefully twisted. I never said anyone should feel obligated to help me, I just see no reason in all these posts if you aren't going to help.
you just did by claiming you should get personal assistence for free...
E-mail isn't "personal", it is no personal than posting a message on here..I still fail to see what this big deal is.
It's quite personal. It's for you alone, noone else sees it.
In contrast anything posted here (including your ranting about how you're entitled to free personal tutoring normally priced at $150 an hour or more) is quite public.
I didn't mean for this to be a debate. The project was chosen by me, solely me, with no encouragment. I am unaware of any other student who chose this type of project,
Doesn't matter. Most likely you just didn't look well enough or long enough. In my experience pretty much everything selected as "projects" by schoolkids has been done a million times before.
it is not some huge scam to get "free experts" on some sort of "team" for "private information". There shall be no "hooking up", I don't see where I said that
By requiring personal and private tutoring for free you did just that.
. I chose the form of E-mail only because I would consider it rude (and probably against some rules) to post a question on these boards directed towards one single user. I was just confident that I could find help on here,
Requesting private tutoring on public forums IS rude, and most often against the rules of those forums.
In contrast, asking questions nicely and waiting for answers is considered quite civilised.
Do NOT direct questions towards a single user however. There are far more people capable of answering those questions than just one, and you're NOT entitled to any one person's undivided attention anyway.

  • SAP Mentor needed in Fort Collins, Colorado

    Hello SAP Mentors,
We have a request from Colorado State University for a speaker to discuss SAP ERP, implementation success factors and answer questions about integrated systems.  Do we have a mentor who lives in the Fort Collins, CO area that would be interested in speaking with a university class about these topics?
    Thanks,
    Alex McLeod

"Once upon a time..." someone created an SAP Mentor Map.  I found it, easily enough, with google (search: sap mentor map).  It's a bit dated, let's just say.  I think Jamie Oswald is the closest, but it's quite a haul.  Vijay is listed in Arizona, which is also far away from Kansas, I mean Colorado, but he's on the Emeritus list.

  • Business One 2005  A SP1 Mentor Needed

    Hi,
I'm a newbie to SAP Business One (but have experience with MS SQL 2000/5 Databases, SQL and OO programming, and tech admin in general, but I've just had a SAP Business One A SP1 app dropped in my lap and am a little freaked out, lol! The company I work for (very cool baby stuff co) just got bought/funded and they need to start with a fresh chart of accounts / company and I have been tasked with creating a the company and migrating some of the vendor/partner/stock data from the existing company.
I'm not looking for any hand holding per say, just someone with some experience in this domain who I can bounce some questions off of, and who might be able to point me in the right direction as to how to approach this, i.e. data migration workbench or the migration wizard, or just doing it from behind in the MS SQL DB itself after creating a basic co in the front end...anyway...sorry for the novel and the totally open ended post...I promise I won't abuse your time if anyone is willing to give me some pointers...thanks in advance!
    Dustin -

Hi Gordon...thank you very much for your reply and the advice. The B1 software was originally installed by a seasoned SAP professional and is working well and already has an existing company in use, I have just been asked to create a duplicate company, only bringing over a small amount of non-transactional data such as vendor and partner contact info and special pricing data
I have already created a new test company, and it now it looks like I just need to migrate some of the non-critical data. I know sometimes things can appear more simple than they really are, and I understand that I may be missing some important aspect of this processes that would be better left to an expert.  So, after my clarification of what I am being asked to do and where I am at in the processes, would you still recommend that this is best left to a seasoned SAP consultant? Thanks again for your reply! Dustin -
