By default, ML no longer comes with the Java runtime preinstalled. I believe the route to enabling Java if you are going to need it is to run the Java Preferences app found in Utilities. It will inform you of Java's absence and offer to install the latest version and activate it. On subsequent runs, the Preferences app will allow you to fine tune how the runtime operates.
Note that the new default operation is for the applet plugin to be disabled. You need to enable it as needed and it self-deactivates if unused in awhile. Also important to note that Java comes in both 32 and 64 bit versions and you can set the preferred order. Default is 64-bit but I've had issues with some applets failing to run and have had to switch the order.

As you can only get OS X from Internet Recovery, you can't get the OS X Mountain Lion stored on the HDD and make a bootable volume with it. Also, you can't install the OS X version you have on your other Mac because the hardware of this MacBook Pro with Retina display isn't compatible with that OS X version.
In your case, reinstall OS X and see what happens. If you can't reinstall OS X, take the computer to an Apple Store because you can't do anything with that MacBook Pro now

Need Help Installing Snow Leopard over Mountain Lion!!!!

Hey!!! I REALLY NEED SOME HELP!!! I had Mountain Lion installed on my Macbook Pro. I didnt like it and I wanted to downgrade to Snow leopard. I have the Install Disk with me. I went ahead and formatted my Macbook Pro. Now Im not sure what to do. Should I put the disk in?? And will it install?? And how should i install it??? All I can do as of now is boot into the Recovery HD.

I have the same problem with an iMac - everybody gives the same response and none of the them work. Why? Possibly because the iMacs come with bluetooth keyboards and by the time the bluetooth connection has been made, it's too far into the boot sequence for "holding down the C" or "holding Option whilst pressing R", etc. to have any effect.
(Oh yeah, I've tried connecting USB keyboards and they don't work either. - possibly because they are usually Windows and I don't know which keys map to which).
It's bad enough being told to press the "Option" key on an OSX keyboard when there isn't one - at least not on English keyboards. If the Yanks mean the "Alt" key, then they should say so.
I do not get the Installer Utilities options to enable me to clear the old operating system from my hard drive, because I can't find the key combination to force a boot from my DVD drive.
I also get a message that I can't run "the (Snow Leopard?) Installer" on the current software (Mountain Lion) in order to start the regression to Snow Leopard.
So, how do I trash my current system and start again? I suppose that I could always install Windows and then OSX over the top of it. Or take the disk out and start from scratch - but I've done that once and it's a bit boring.
P.S. I was the "Backup Man" at a computer installation, so " Make sure you save this...." goes without saying.
Any different ideas guys?

Mountain Lion FREE update for MacBook Pro Retina 2012

Hello, looking for an honest support.. I bought my Macbook Pro Retina 2012 on this 15 July 2012 from Apple's authorised premium reseller of Bangladesh (Executive Machines Ltd.).. I just knew & saw yesterday that Mountain Lion was published & it is FREE for the buyers who bought the new qualifying machine (as my one is!).. so I just followed the apple.com eligible link and provided my details (address of my current residence which happens to be "Bangladesh", country, city & my valid macbook pro "serial number"..).. after that received a claim reference number mentioning that the FREE redeem code will be emailed to me after checking my claim has been validated.. but after carefully going through that eligibility link I noticed that claims are not eligible for outside US/ Canada.. and now I've provided my serial number & it has been used! and moreover, I did not recieve any email notification from Apple even after 24+ hours!.. what should I do now? .. do I need to buy this Mountain Lion once again even after I am eligible for the FREE update as Apple mentioned before or I just lost my free redeem opportunity as I bought it from outside US (event though from Apple's authorised reseller!!)?? please need honest suggestion..

Why is Mountain Lion not available for Mac Pro 2007???

Why is Mountain Lion not available for Macpro 2007 eventhough this computer is not having old generation hardware like of 15years ago's computers!! I am surprised to know about that. when this mac pro have 2 xeon processor, 8GB ram, OS 10.7.5 (Lion) etc etc. so why is this not compatible for mountain lion???
Very Sad for us - the buyer of so costly Macpro ....
so does the Apple want to say we should buy or upgrade our purchased costly apple products every 5 years ??!!

I need help getting a Novatel Wireless Merlin S720 to work on my G4 PB

I need help with "Sprint Mobile Broadband Card Novatel Wireless Merlin S720.
I have a Mac PowerBook G4 running 10.4.8 as follows:
Machine Name: PowerBook G4
Machine Model: PowerBook3,3
CPU Type: PowerPC G4 (2.1)
Number Of CPUs: 1
CPU Speed: 667 MHz
L2 Cache (per CPU): 256 KB
Memory: 1 GB
Bus Speed: 133 MHz
Boot ROM Version: 4.2.9f1
I was told by a "Sprint PCS Level 2" Tech that if
I got one of the "Sprint" cards that I would have to
set it up on a "Windows" Laptop and then call a
"Sprint PCS Level 2" tech and have them walk me
through setting it up on my PowerBook G4...
I purchased a "PanTech PX500"... set it up on my
"Windows" laptop and called to be told that I should
have purchased a "Novatel S720" and the the "PanTech"
would NOT work in my Powerbook...
I took the "PanTech" back and finally (after of month of looking
for one in a Sprint Store to no avail) ordered on from Sprint's
Tel-Sales unit...
When it arrived I set it up on my "Windows" laptop and called
back to a Sprint Level 2 Tech... I got a tech that was very helpful,
however, was NOT able to get the "Novatel S720" to work... He
told me I should have purchased a "PanTech PX500"!!!
This morning I went to a "Sprint Store" and was told that they had
sold several "Novatel S720's" to Mac owners and suggested that
I keep the "Novatel S720" and even though they could not set it up
on my Mac... they suggested that I call back to another Level 2 tech...
Is there anyone out there that can help me get this working???

I went to the Sprint Store in St Peters MO and one of the Sprint
Associates told me that she had sold several Sprint cards including
20 or so S720's to a customer of her's..
A large graphics house based in St Louis.
She emailed the Senior VP there and ask that he contact me
if he could/would help...
I received an email from him in less than 4 hours and he
directed me to their in-house tech dept!
I called and talked to the person that he had directed me to
and that person told me that it was a little tricky... You have to do
some modification of the "Code" in the Kernel...
He said if would bring my Mac & the card over the next day
at 10AM it would take him about 10 minutes to get me up and
running!!!
I ask what the charge would be??? He said... "The Boss is a
real Mac Guy... Just Bring it over and we'll get you fixed
up!!! It's a Mac thing!!!"
It works Great!!! I've used it in several areas around the MidWest
and my next road trip will include IN, IL, MO (KC), KY, TN, AL, FL,
GA and SC... That will be the test!!!
I'm finding that I'm able to get on line with the Sprint Card in places
that I don't get very good Sprint PCS Cel service...Must be the
Sprint/NEXTEL combination!
I've been a Mac owner/user/teacher since early '84... It's
GREAT to me a Mac Person!!!

How do I download Mountain Lion at work for my iMac at home?

I have my MacBook at work, which cannot be upgraded to Lion (or Mountain Lion for that fact) as it is only Core Duo (not the required Core 2 Duo).
My internet connection for my iMac at home (which can be upgraded) is far too slow and I have a relatively small data limit that will result in massive charges!!!
Given this is how the software is to be distributed, is there any way I can download the software to en external HD for my iMac at home?
Going to the store is not an option as the nearest one is hours away.
Any help would be great!

I have slow Internet also. It took four hours to download 10.8, but with a little bit of patience it did download properly. I don't see why you shouldn't be able to download it. Of course it will not let you run that download, but then that's not what you want to do. The download can be found in your applications. Right click and choose show contents. Go to shared and from there you should be able to copy everything onto a disc or a 8 gig thumbdrive. If your Macbook has Airdrop then you should be able to use that also. I think Apple is also going to have OS X 10.8 available on a thumbdrive later, so if the download doesn't work you can always get the thumbdrive I would double check with Apple first before you pay for anything though.

I have Photoshop Elements 12 that was purchased for my Windows 8 system in July of 2014. I have never been able to get the organizer to work. I need help getting this portion of the program to work. I would like to talk with an Adobe tech.

How is it that I can download and use Photoshop Elements 12 program editor and not have access to the organizer???

The two applications (organizer & editor) can work independently and only talk to each other when they need to.
Are you updating from a previous version or is this the first?
There are (at least) three ways of starting the organizer:-
1) from the Welcome screen
2) from the editor - see button at the bottom of the editor window
3) directly using windows explorer to locate and double click on the following
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Elements 12 Organizer\PhotoshopElementsOrganizer.exe"
[ignore the (x86) part if on 32bit system]
Can you get any of those ways to work? Do you get any error message or does nothing happen?
You could try creating a new catalog to see if that helps.
Start the organizer (in any of the ways) with the Shift key held down while it loads (if it does). That should bring up the catalog manager
Click on the New button (top right)
Give it a name like Dummy or Test and click on OK - that should create & open a blank catalog

Need help- trying to figure out if Spotify would work for my senior living community

We are a senior community that has activity programs running in like 7-10 areas in the building. Music is a big part of our day. CD's for all these areas is getting crazy. There has got to be a better way. We want to be able to pick music genre, a song even to hear and have playlists. What we have currently: We have some laptops and desktop computer using windows. We also have a few MP3 players, boomboxes and IPODS. We also have Wifi. But sometimes of course we have Wifi issues. We have access to usually a laptop or boombox. We could use the MP3 players/ipods. I like the idea of playlists that we share, pulling music that is alike. These are my quesitons or issues below: Things are my questions:1. Can we have 1 account be made for different appliances and be on spotify at the same time? Premium said 3 but you can't be both logged in under each account. Is this still true? Postings were old. 2. With even the Spotify family can you be on to the account at the same time? 3. What would be our best solution for this for accounts- would we have to set up different account for each device if we want to play at the same time? Any ideas - I just really need suggestions4. If we did our laptops, we would need speakers? Also for boomboxes- is this possible? I am assuming using like an MP3 player or IPOD. Spotify work through them? Is it certain type of MP3 players and IPODS. I believe a few of ours are older ones. 5. If we have tons of accounts, can I start all accounts on same computer? Would I set them up by each device we have?6. Can you run ipod/mp3 through large TV speakers? or laptop music through big screen tv speakers?7. For the music itself, can you pick what exact songs in playlist? Can you make lots of playlist per account? I saw 3,300 songs but can you name the playlist and stay forever? Spotify has 2 different account types. You can see the difference between the two at the bottom of the homepage: http://spotify.com
1: Each Spotify account can only play on one device at a time. You can have the account logged into as many devices as you want, but you can only play on one device at a time.
2: With Spotify family, there are several Spotify accounts under one plan. Each account is able to play on one device at a time.

4: You wouldn't necessarily have to have speakers hooked up to the laptop. If the laptop has speakers or you input headphones, that should work. Spotify doesn't work with MP3 players/iPods. To use Spotify you have to have the Spotify app.

7: Yes you can search Spotify and add any song you want to a playlist. And you can also make lots of playlists. Each playlist has a limit of 10,000 songs. The 3,333 limit you saw is for the offline limit on premium accounts. Up to 3,333 songs can be downloaded for offline listening.
Hopefully this information helps. The family plan can have up to 5 accounts. It might end up being too expensive for what you need. The free plan has ads, but it still might be worth looking into.

Put "Mountain Lion Install fails" in the headline box, then from your second post -
