I need to choose between an air and a pro
I need some help chosing between a MacBook Pro and a MacBook Air, for uni, and just don't know what is best and worth the value. I study some design subjects so I may need to use some softwares, but otherwise, just general use laptop.
depends on what you need it for. If no video editing or gaming , get the Air
I own both, and love both, but Id never part with the Air
AIr is on sale right now, $100 off, and is faster. The new Air just came out.
Your choice is subjective, weigh the differences. Same as other people have to do

What are the major differences between the air and the pro
what are the major differences between the air and the pro?
In a nutshell, the Air is a lightened, more compact system than the 13" Pro counterpart. The Air loses some hardware features to accommodate the physical downsizing.
No FireWire port
No built-in optical drive
A lesser performing CPU to retain battery charge life, and adequate cooling.
No Ethernet port
No Kensington lock slot
The Air does have a superior native resolution at 1440 x 900, and a standard SSD that does make up alot of the speed differential, and then some. Of course, the 13" Pro can be optionally configured with an SSD.
You buy the Air if the physical size an weight savings are demonstrably more important than the features lost. -
Can you give me some ideas on which to buy between macbook air and macbook pro?
I am going to start another year in college very soon and I need a laptop to handle my school work or projects. I don't know what to choose between Macbook Air 13" (2013) and Macbook Pro 13" (RAM 8GB - Not Retina Display). Here are what I need to do on computer:
- Long time surfing through the internet.
- Social network : Facebook, Instagram, Line, Skype ....
- Watching movies online (mayb more than 3-4 hours)
- Typing documents or making slide shows.
- A lot of documents, HD videos/movies, photos and music.
- Using some graphic/plan design programs such as CorelDraw, Photoshop, Illustrator, AutoCad and so on. (Monthly but I still have to use it.)
- Games are no needed cuz m not a gamer.
That's all or maybe more, but I can't think of right now. My money is around 1500$. If you guys think I might need Air, should I configure it to match my expectations? I hope to having some good ideas from you. Thanks in advanced.Ive got BOTH the Pro and AIr youre interested in, for what YOU say you want, Id get the Air.
Since you said you were only going to "some graphic/plan design programs", the Air is perfect for moderate Photo editing.
and you said no games.
Air has fewer parts, only one moving part (the fan), lite as an Ipad (almost) but a full powered computer.
No HD heads to crash, fewer parts = simplicity = less to fault.
Runs cooler than anything else out there (which = durability). Heat is a killer on a scale of 10X over that of accidents.
Pack around a regular notebook around about 20 days, then an Air, .....after that the standard laptops stays at home.
Air is the only Mac that has Haswell, 802ac wifi, and incredible 12hr. batt life in 13" I5.
Get the 13" much longer battery life, and the screen real estate is better, Ive owned both 11" and 13". 13" also has an SD card slot the 11" doesnt have.

Handoff won't work between iPad Air and Macbook Pro
I'm trying to get handoff to work between my iPad Air and Macbook Pro (Late 2013). I have tried turning all devices on and off again, turning the handoff on and off again and turning iPhone Cellular Calls on and off again on both devices.
Does anyone know how to fix this issue? This fixed your connectivity problem. However, I don't think this has actually fixed any problem.
I think this Handoff feature is buggy. I have three devices -- a MBP, an iPad Mini, and an iPhone 5 -- and I have done "the dance" you've described and only one of my devices, the iPhone, is now Handoff capable. The iPad Mini still doesn't support Handoff.
I think there is a problem in the software and that all of this signing in, signing out, powering on, powering off, is just getting the devices to clean themselves up so that stuff can start from a fresh slate and attempt to work together again...sort of. It's not necessarily guaranteed. -
What are the differences between Mac Air and Mac Pro?
What are really the main differences between the Macbook Air and the MacBook Pro?
I am thinking of getting a laptop by mac. I like the prices of the Air but the Pro seems better performance.
However my needs are internet, email, word processing and some photos, pictures etc.
would i still be able to do many good applications on the Air vs the Pro?
suggestions please?
thanksThe base model current 2013 Air will perform faster and better in general than the base model 13" non-Retina Macbook Pro.
Ive got both of them.
On the Air:
Faster wifi (by far) 802ac
Faster boot and read/ write due to SSD
Much longer battery life due to Haswell upgrade made in June
Crisper sharper screen, better to stare at for long periods
MUCH FEWER parts to go bad,.....also only one moving part, the Fan
No HD to crash from mechanical failure
Packing the AIr around is a dream since is nearly the weight of an Ipad.
Dont get fooled like most do in seeing the super-skinny AIr as less than a full power machine, ....thats always someones first huge mistake when they see one.

Can I hard wire a link between Macbook Air and Mac Pro?
My Macbook Air currently connects to my office network using WiFi.
But for some reason it takes 20 hours to load new software onto the Air using disc sharing from my Mac Pro, the fastest of my desktops.
The transfer is over Wi-Fi and involves several Gb of data, but it seems excessively slow.
Is there any way of hard-wiring the Air to the Pro to allow faster installation?
The Air has both Thunderbolt and USB sockets, whilst the Pro has USB and Firewire.
Many thanks,
Bristly BadgerI would suggest to use a Thunderbolt to Gigabit Ethernet Adapter with the Air. Disconnect the MacPro from the Network, simply connect the cable to the MacBook Air's Thunderbolt to Gigabit Ethernet Adapter instead. Wait a few seconds until both computers have picked self-assigned IP Addresses, and the shared disk should show up on the MacBook Air. Speed will be 100MB/s. In other words, 10GB will transfer in two minutes. (If the Pro's disks can keep up, that is...)

with any edits syncing between both devices seamlessly.
Using which Adobe software specifically?
There are many apps and the syncing process varies depending on which you are using. -
I bought a new Panasonic camcorder to edit in iMovie 10.0.3. I need to choose between the AVCHD choices and the ALL MP4/iframe choices. I don't have a clue as to which to use. I just want to burn video to DVD to have and share. Thanks for any help.
It sounds like you have assigned the primary click on the trackpad to something else, perhaps a gesture.
Use your mouse, login and then open the Trackpad preference pane and see how you have the interface configured.
Oh and you can have both the Magic Mouse and Magic Trackpad powered up and working at the same time. No need to keep moving batteries around.

Hello, may I change data between iPad Air and other devices by cable connection (USB), (not using cloud) ?
Do you mean you want to sync or transfer data using a cable? Between and iPad Air and what "other device"?

FaceTime volume issue between iPad Air and iPad 2
I've noticed that when making FaceTime calls between iPad Air and iPad 2, the volume on iPad 2 is too soft and the volume on iPad Air is too loud. This only occurs between 2 different type of iPads. If both parties use the same type, the volumes on both sides are roughly the same and loud enough to be heard clearly. I've also verified with Skype which produced roughly the same loudness when video calling between an iPad Air and an iPad 2.
Just hope Apple can take notice of this issue and rectify in the new iOS release.Yeah, what's up with this? I too have PDF's I want to sync between iPhone5s and new iPadAir. I'm not having luck!. You would think it would be SIMPLE!

Syncing mail between iMac G5 and Macbook Pro
I work at home on a G5 and regularly read and then delete or file my emails. I regularly sync between my G5 and Macbook Pro, which I use when traveling. My syncing routine works fine with the address book, calendar, etc., but when I go my Macbook Pro Mail account after syncing, the inbox is still full of mail that I have already read and filed on the G5. Is the syncing routine designed to replicate the mail accounts or do I need to reread, delete, and file the emails on the Macbook as well.
PS: I am using email accounts with cox.net, i.e., not mac.com accounts.
Thanks for any help.
FLLThe underlying issue here is that you have chosen to use POP3 rather than IMAP mail accounts. Only IMAP mailboxes are 'synchronized' by default: it is virtually impossible to synchronize POP3 mailbox content.
For a discussion of POP3, IMAP and mail synchronization options, take a look at the Mail & Address Book - Tiger forum located here. -
Envy 4500 has stopped printing off both a Macbook Air and a Pro - was fine before
I've been very happy with my printer/scanner but today it has stopped printing off both my Macbook Air and Macbook Pro. The printer seems fine so not sure why this has happened. Please help!
Hi @Swaggie,
Welcome to the HP Forums!
I understand that your HP Envy 4500 is not printing from your Macbook Air and your Macbook Pro. I am happy to help you with this printing issue!
For further assistance, I will need to know the following information:
The version number of the Mac Operating Systems. To find the exact version, visit this link. Whatsmyos.
If the printer is connected, Wireless, or USB.
If the printer is able to make copies. Copy Text or Mixed Documents.
If the power cable is plugged into a surge protector, or directly to the wall outlet. Issues when Connected to an Uninterruptible Power Supply/Power Strip/Surge Protector. This applies to Inkjet printers as well.
If there are any error messages on the printer's display panel.
In the meantime, please take a look through this guide, 'Printer is offline' Message Displays on the Computer and the Printer Does Not Print: Mac OS X, and let me know what happens!
Hope to hear from you soon!
