There are a lot of MacBook Pros with the model # A1286 - which year is your model (e.g., "15-inch Late 2011")?

  • HT204088 Where do I find all the transactions I have made at Apple for my Macbook pro?

I had to get a new battery for my mac pro and then had to get the screen replaced and a couple of other things. Where can I find all of this information?

They should have emailed you the receipt as well as given you a printed receipt (I'm assuming you're talking about dealing with Apple, here).

  • I have just bought Logic studio for my macbook pro, do i need to buy a midi keyboard?

Bascily just wondering if this would be essentail to the purchase i have just made, if not it's no bother. Thanks in advance.

I don't know how someone can purchase a $500 piece of professional MIDI/Audio software and even ask this question.
Of course you need a MIDI keyboard, unless you're going to work with canned loops in which case Garageband would be -more- than enough for you.
In fact, Garageband is a subset of Logic and is capable of producing professional grade output and is a perfect place to start learning about MIDI and Audio.
As a long time Logic user I admit it's difficult to see people using Logic without having a base of knowledge to build upon.
If you're going to use Logic you need to read the manuals and use the online help, there is so much good info there, it will give you an understanding of how Logic works and what it is designed to do.
Logic is not a hand holder, It will not walk you through how to use it, it's not a Mac program per se, you have to know what you're doing to learn Logic effectively. The best way to do this is to read manuals, watch tutorials and come up with a short list of questions that can be answered effectively... in short, intelligent questions.
Random questions of "what's this", "how do I do (fill in the blank)"  can give you an immediate answer but leave you clueless how that answer was arrived at. Knowing how to arrive at your own answers is a key to understanding and using Logic effectively.
Not ranting specifically at you LeGringe... just a general rant to new users who've aquired Logic without much former experience in MIDI/Audio...etc....etc.

Do I have to upload windows software into my mac in order to do this???
Yes, it's a Windows only program.
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Microsoft_Project
I just bought the home & business 2011 for macs & didn't realize it didn't have project on it.
It's not part of "Office" according to the link above, it's a standalone software.
I suggest you go with Windows 7 Home/Professional in a virtual machine program like VirtualBox (free, less options) or VMFusion or Parallels (paid, requires paid updates, easier to install, more options)
So your would be running OS X > Virtual machine software > Install Windows (its in a window on OS X) >  Install MS Project into that, create a saved "snapshot" to restore with if you get malware.
BootCamp is really if you need full hardware performance, you have to reboot the machine each time you want to use Windows, which is a drag.
Another drag is if it gets malware, it can be complicated to fix. When a vm you just dump it and restore a snapshot in seconds.
Windows in BootCamp or Virtual Machine?

  • How do I get more memory for my Macbook Pro Spring 2010 13-inch with 2.66GHz Intel Core 2 Duo?

How do I get more memory for my Macbook Pro spring 2010 13-inch with 2.66GHz Intel Core 2 Duo. Apple says no memory currently available for that model. I have 4 GB memory and 3.99 used. Help!

Now I'm confused. This is the one Crucial told me to get:
    CT3309356 - 4GB DDR3 PC3-8500 Unbuffered NON-ECC 1.35V 512Meg x 64
    $45.99
Also what do you mean that actual memory is 16GB but with Apple it's 8?
When I go to the "About this Mac" it says Memory 4G 1067 MHz DDR3, then when I go to System Report it says
     Memory Slot
    Bank 0/ DIMM0 2G DDR3 1067 MHZ OK
    Bank 1/ DIMM0 2G DDR3 1067 MHZ OK
Sorry I'm clueless. Just don't want to buy something that messes up my machine more than it already is.
The Crucial site appears to have recommended the correct spec 4gB RAM stick for your model. Please note that you will need to remove the existing sticks of RAM to install new, so you will need 2x4gB to get to 8gB.
When your model of computer was designed/built, it was tested with readily available 2x4gB (8gB). After release RAM retailers have tested it with higher amounts, and Apple didn't update their quoted specs.

  • Where can I find an earphone splitter for my macbook pro

My wife and I like to watch movies on my Macbook Pro on flights and have previously been able to do so by using our Apple earbuds through an audio splitter connected to the audio port of our Macbook, that is until I lost the splitter. Now I cannot seem to find one  that will work. I believe that it may be because the audio port needs 4 instead of 3 connectors on the pin. Ours is a Macbook Pro 13" from late 2011.

I use Sennheiser ear phones and they came with a splitter with this exact pin configuration:
I just tested it on my 2011 MBP and it WORKS.
I do not think that this is what is required:
    http://www.walmart.com/ip/StarTech-3.5mm-4-Pin-to-Dual-3-Pin-3.5mm-Headset-Split ter-Adapter/16531375
I suggest that you try your earphones on your MBP and if they work, get a splitter with the same pin configuration.  I think that the clerks advice is suspect.
    Ciao.

  • In need of new charger for 2009 Macbook Pro

I got my Macbook Pro in the summer of '09, along with a charger cable. Now my charger has finally decided that it no longer wants to work properly, forcing me to maneuver it in all kinds of positions to make the connection happen (I think it got crimped somewhere along the way, and now it takes playing around to find the connection again).
I want to get a new charger, but I don't know which kind to get. The one I currently have has a T-shaped connector; does this mean I need to get one with the same shape, or could I get an L-shaped head? I know that the ones for Macbook air don't fit (my sister has one, and it's wider and narrower than mine), and I have no idea what version of MagSafe I have (writing on the bottom is kind of rubbed off). Any ideas?

You should replace it with the same model - 85 watt with T connector. However, it's likley the L shaped one will work as well. This is for a MacBook Pro.
Apple 85W MagSafe Power Adaptor (for 15- and 17-inch MacBook Pro).
Apple no longer sells the T-shaped adaptors. However, you can find refurbished replacements elsewhere by searching with Google.

Need a Leather Messenger bag for 17" Macbook Pro .. any suggestions?
I cant seem to find a nice one .. I am traveling soon and would like to have it before I go away ....
I would like something with some protection and ... something stylish  ...
I have had a hard time finding a nice one ...

There is a difference technically between this iStorage unit and the Cal Digit stuff. Cal Digit includes a hardware raid controller, and removable drives. The iStorage Pro unit relies on your computer's CPU to control the raid... so will tax things like render times... plus just to play a software raid can take as much as 30% of your CPU's cycles to do it...
That said, it may not matter if you're working in lower resolution files, or lower data rate stuff, either company makes great gear though. Both are intended for use with video systems. But ya do get something for the extra money on the CalDigit gear.
But if all you want to use it for is backup of data... anybody's drives would do this... doesn't have to be a raid either. Single FW drives will certainly hold the data as backup even if they won't play it without dropping frames.

  • How do I know what battery I need for my MacBook Pro?

Hello, Is there a way to find out what model the battery is that I need for my MacBook Pro without tearing it apart? I have the serial number and also the Hardware UUID, whatever that is. If I have to tear it apart I will, but I'm hoping to keep that to a minimum as I'm afraid to tempt fate!

skink - thanks for the kind words.
Depending on your model (check under the Apple menu, "About This Mac", "More Info...", "System Report..." and tell me your Model Identifier. Mine, for instance, says (under Hardware Overview):
    Hardware Overview:
    Model Name:    MacBook Pro
    Model Identifier:    MacBookPro8,2
Depending on your model, a 'good' number of cycles might be as low as 300 or as high as 1,000. But if the condition is "normal," as you say (and as mine reads) you really shouldn't have anything to worry about.
If it's a battery that needs to be replaced by an Apple tech, it's 'built-in,' meaning you can't just turn it over and change the battery (such was the case with my 2006 1,1 model and some models after that).
It's always good to keep an eye on battery health and to use some methods of keeping your CPU load at a minimum when using battery power. Viewing movies, whether in the DVD player or those that are on your computer, will really tax your CPU and result in lower battery life. To maximize your battery life, try to have as few apps open as possible when under battery power - particularly those that drain your CPU. You can keep and eye on this by keeping Activity Monitor, in your Utilities folder, open at all times. If you see a process that's taking 10+% of your CPU load, that's an app you should close or at least keep an eye on - my Firefox browser will sometime get in the 13% range, but I don't worry about that.
Battery use is, for me, primarily about Internet browsing and email. I keep open Firefox, Outlook, Activity Monitor, Word, Acrobat, Word, TextEdit, and a few other small apps and I generally get 7+ hours on battery time.
I would also suggest using two little utilities to keep an eye on battery usage - one is "Battery Health" available at the App Store free. The other is gfxCardStatus which will let you use discrete graphics, changing your GPU to the less intensive processor. It's available at http://codykrieger.com/gfxCardStatus and is "Mountain Lion ready" as of it's latest release.
Good luck - see how many more hours you can eke out of that battery before thinking about having it replaced. As much as I use mine, I know that I'm going to go over the 1,000 cycle mark before my AppleCare expires, so I know that I'm going to have to get it replaced. But for now, I'm getting the advertised hours and am quite happy.
    Regards,
    Clinton
