I need to modify Postfix to listen to port 587

Mountain Lion Server OS X 10.8.4
Running Mail service with Postfix and Dovecot. In production with several mailboxes.
I need to modify Postfix to listen to port 587. I should be able to telnet to port 587, and finally send mail via 587.
587 already redirects to 25 via the firewall, but external devices need to visit the internal subnet without modifications to the mail app.
At this stage I just want to get it working with password authentication.   SSL is a project for another day.
Here's my understanding of the OS X Postfix config:
/etc/services file:
Maps service names to port numbers.  Port 25 is  "smtp" and port 587 is "submission".
/etc/postfix/master.cf file:
Loads Postfix preferences. Service configurations for "smtp" and "submission" are listed at the top of the file. Each service configuration can be modified with parameters (-o variable_name_here=value_here).
I found many discussion boards with instructions for enabling 587. They suggest removing the comment syntax for the existing "submission" line:

My server didn't have a comment, the line was already enabled:
submission inet n - - n - smtpd
I restarted services and 587 didn't work.
Then I tried a more direct approach:
587 inet n - - n - smtpd
This had no effect.
After each attempt to enable 587 I test with:
telnet 127.0.0.1 587
And I get: Connection Refused
I used the Server app and turned Mail off and on. This stops and starts Postfix.
I also used commands to restart Postfix:
postfix stop
postfix start
sudo postfix stop
sudo postfix start
postfix reload
sudo postfix reload
Nothing opens 587.  Any ideas? Thanks in advance for your insights.

@Kraftwerk: You cannot change the TCP port used for SMTP.  Well, technically, you can, but then no other mail servers on the Internet will find and communicate with your mail server.  So... forget that.
The ISP controls the terms and conditions for the network connection, and particularly controls the network and network access.  There's just no way 'round that either, as the ISP has the network position to implement port blocks and firewalls, and usually the contractual authority to allow or deny access.
With the proper (static) network connection and proper DNS, there is nothing to struggle with; this stuff works. 
Which implies your ISP does not offer static connections, or there's an ISP error, or you're attempting to operate a mail server on a dynamic address.  None of this works.
You might try mailhop service — if that's permitted within the limits of the terms of service — but it'll be easier and cheaper to host your mail elsewhere.  Or to get a static IP address and proper public DNS, if your ISP offers that. 
SMTP services are also tied to DNS, as well; other mail servers use DNS checks to detect rogue (spam) servers, and a mail server erroneously configured on a dynamic IP address will have mismatched DNS, and other mail servers will detect that and drop mail from and often to that mail server; that server is indistinguishable from a spam engine.
There's rather more the ISP can do as part of best-practices networking, too.  TCP port 25 connections both inbound and outbound are usually spam engines operating on malware-infested, so it's common to block that traffic to reduce the volume of spam.  Various ISPs will further blacklist dynamic IP address blocks, which means other SMTP servers using these blacklist services will ignore servers in these address ranges.
Get static IP.  Or host elsewhere.  Or (if permitted) mail hop.

    Take a look at the iCab Mobile browser for the iPad. It allows document uploads if you configure it properly in the settings. iCab Mobile also works with DropBox.
    You may have to download the documents to the iPad and upload from there, but it might be worth a look here.

    How can I upload any file (not only photos) under iOS 6?
    Unlike the web engine of iOS 5.x and older, the web engine of iOS 6 has now basic upload support as well. But it only supports uploading photos and videos from the photo album. And this will only work under iOS 6.
    The upload capability of iCab Mobile works under all iOS releases and supports uploading photos videos and all other file types. It can even scale down photos before uploading to save bandwidth.
    But iCab's own custom upload capability has the disadvantage, that because of several iOS restrictions, it can not work on all web pages. Therefore under iOS 6, iCab Mobile provides a switch in the settings where the user can choose, if iCab should use the upload capability from the iOS (only photos, works with some more web pages) or the capabilities of iCab (photos and all other files, can't work on all web pages).
    So if you need to upload other files than just photos, make sure that you set the option "Upload files via" in the settings to "iCab Mobile".

  • Return Current month Data:Help needed in modifying this code of a Procedure

    Hello Folks i have this scenario where i need to modify this code so that it has to return data from the Current month First Day to the previous Day if its a daily report and previous month data if its a monthly report.
    I have no clue how to modify this code below. Currently the code is returning data for Monthly reports for the previous month. Does anyone have any idea how to modify so that the code meets the requirements of both daily and monthly reprts.

    Thank you very much for your suggestion.
    I tried that way, I created some sample xml file, I created sample rtf file and I generated xsl-fo file. I copied the part of code into my PO_STANDARD_PO.XSL. I am getting some error.
    I noticed PO_STANDARD_PO.XSL is xsl version 1.0 and the generated sample data is with xsl version 2.0.
    The generated code is using “for-each_group”, “sum()”, “current-group()” etc. Is these functions will work in xslt 1? Or do we need to code different way?
    We are in Oracle APPS 12.0.4.

    Additional data B is used to add your own fields also known as custom fields in sales order.
    Custom fields can be added to tables VBAK & VBAP (depending on header or item). Similarly you can remove fields if you don't require it anymore.
    In short, your requirement can be met but you have to take help of ABAP consultant since it requires maintenance of user exits and modification of screens.

    Our requirement is we need to modify the Rounded Qty through Z report for specific Sales order Schedule lines.
    When we try to use the above function module and pass quantity in table SCHEDULE_EX - CORR_QTY, it is not working.
    Below are the addition Parameters passed to these table.

  • I need help modifying a script in IPCC

    I am running UCCX Premium 5.0(2)SR02_Build045. I have a script in place, but need to modify it. Basically a call comes into my main menu and gets distributed to a contact service queue. If no agents are available the call is queued and the caller is prompted to leave a voicemail after 2 mins. If the caller continues to hold they will stay in queue. I need to modify the script so that all callers are dequeued after 15mins. The call can be terminated or routed back to my operator (0). Any help appreciated I am a scripting newbie!
    By the red arrow is the QueueTransfersLoop. I need to modify this loop to terminate after 15mins.

    Hi Chris,
    You need to drop the get reporting statistic step in some place of the queue loop, in the get reporting statistic step properties you have to choose for the Report Object parameter the one that says "CSQ IPCC Express", in the Field parameter you have to choose "Current Wait Duration", the Row Identifier is a string variable that has the value of the CSQ name and finally Result Statistic is an integer variable that you have to set to 0.
    After that you need an if statement, in that step you have to compare the value of the Integer variable with some value, in this case the 15mins that you need (you have to compare the values in seconds). It's better to compare the value with a ".equals()" and also with a ">="  because it could be that the call has being queued a little bit more than 15 mins.
    Check the screenshot, that works for me.

    I need to modify the valyes in the dropdown box for the Sort By and the Then Sort by fields in the Inbox. I know hte values come from the domain CRM_AUI_SORTEDBY which I dont want to modify. I redefined the method GET_V_SORTEDBY
    but the problem I am running into is that the class that the standard method used was a local class and not the standard class for Dropdown boxes. Has anybody been able to change this sucessfully?
