Ok.  I've answered my own question.  For anyone else with difficultites with a receiver, please read.
    1. HDMI connection has sound, so despite the manual's dirction that you need an optical cable for sound, this is incorrect.
    2. When connecting an HDMI cable from Apple TV to a receiver, you often need to "assign" the input on the receiver.  On my Denon AVR-590, I need to o under the menu settings, then assign the input to Apple TV.
Example:  I have run the HDMI cable from Apple Tv to my receiver, HDMI input #2.  I then go the the menu option on the reciever and assin the HDMI #2 to being active.
That's all I needed.  Hope this may help someone out there!  danny

  • My iPhone has two identical options under "iTunes wi-fi sync" that are the same computer. I only have one user on my  computer, and I tried moving my iTunes file in Finder to organize it and now my library's not synced with my phone. Help?

My iPhone has two identical options under "iTunes wi-fi sync" that are the same computer. I only have one user on my computer, and I tried moving my iTunes file in Finder to organize it and now my library's not synced with my phone. Help?

I have the same problem. Right now my iPhone 5S shows 3 instances of the computer to which it is connected under Settings » General » iTunes WiFi Sync. I'm having problems connecting and syncing, and this is probably the cause: the phone chooses one of these connections, and it isn't the one that's actually in use. What's probably happening is that the phone and computer establish a connection using a dynamic IP address, the address becomes "disassociated" due to error, another address is associated, the phone retains each address/link, and each link is displayed as if it represents a separate computer (the fact that the name of the computer is identical is ignored, as the only thing that is considered important is the IP address). But that's all conjecture. More important, I'm not sure how to fix the problem. A network reset doesn't do it.

  • When I updated my Apple TV it shows about 10 computers  on my network when I only have one computer on my network and they are all the same....why did this happen? I only have one computer   linked to the Apple TV

when I updated my Apple tv it now shows about 10 computers on my network which I only have one tv...how do I get rid of the other "computers" listed as they are all the same, this was not happening before I updated the Apple TV

It looks to be a bug. A reboot to computer and/or Apple TV may resolve it.
You can provide feedback to Apple and file a report.

When I do control T a new tab gets added and then a little one with a + on it. otherwise when I put a new address on the tab I have open changes and I loose what's on it because it goes to the new address instead of opening another tab.

    Welcome to the discussions,
a manual backup should help to transfer your data and apps.
Disable autosync in itunes, connect your phone, right click on it in the device list and choose backup. iTunes will backup your phone without syncing and save data, pictures taken with the phone and settings to the new itunes library.
See what's included in this backup here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766
After that, transfer your purchases the same way by choosing "transfer purchases", to copy all apps and bought media from the Store to your computer.
Set up at least one contact and event on your computer to be able the merge your calendars and contacts after your phone got wiped during the first sync.
The rest of the data can be restored again from the manual backup you made before.
Music is one way only, from the computer to your device, unless you bought the songs in itunes and transferred your purchases.
There is 3rd party software out there, but not supported by Apple, see this thread: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2013615&tstart=0

  • I have 2 hdmi ports on my tv and want to set up my apple tv.  Is there another way to do it?

I have 2 hdmi ports on my tv- both are being used. I want to connect my apple tv- is there another ways to connect?

Sounds like it's time for an HDMI switch-box (many in...one out). Yell if Google fails to supply decent hints.

  • I just got an Apple TV. My TVs have only one HDMI port and I have my cable providor plugged into that. Any suggestions on how to set this up?

Repeating myself. I have received an Apple TV. All of my TVs have only one HDMI port and it is being used by my cable provider. Does anyone have suggestions on how to set up the Apple TV and still have access to the cable provider as well?

Not very elegant and shows that nothing is ever quite as simple as it seems. Thanks for the help though!

  • I will be using a HDMI cable to connect an Apple TV box and a Comcast cable TV box to my TV. My TV has only one HDMI port.

I will be using a HDMI cable to connect an Apple TV box and a Comcast cable TV box to my TV. My TV has only one HDMI port.
To do this I will need a 2x1 HDMI splitter or a 2x1 HDMI auto switch (preferred).
?Is there any Apple TV HDMI port voltage?
When using a HDMI auto switch to connect two devices to a HDMI TV, the
Auto switch cable box only works for components that do not output continuous voltage over HDMI port when turned off.
Do you know of any other solutions? Componets? Actual expierances?

Cable : HDMI switches expand the number of available HDMI ports on a high definition television allowing connection of cable boxes, Blu-ray players, and game consoles. A side benefit is that cable clutter is also eliminated by running a single HDMI cable to your HDTV from a switch and relocating the HDMI ports to a concealed location. The problem with most HDMI switches is that you have to either get up to push a button, or hunt for the remote control, to switch sources. The true mark of any great switching component is an ability to perform its function and remain transparent in its operation. This automatic HDMI switch is a plug-and-play away from offering everything you are looking for in an HDMI switch. Select a single output from up to three devices for signal delivery to your HDTV. Smart operation provides complete control for connect-and-forget operation. Powering on a device gives it output priority over the other devices. By powering down the device in use, output priority is returned to the last powered on device. Note: Auto switch function only works for components that do not output continuous voltage over HDMI port when turned off.

    Hi Erico,
I tried what you said again but without success. I even updated the driver so that that audio driver is the same as the graphics driver i.e.. NVIDIA but this has not helped either:
Do you have any other ideas?
    Many many thanks,

  • I have an Pioneer HD TV, but it does not have the HDMI port and it only has a USB connection?  Can I still hook up my Apple TV to my TV?

I just got an Apple TV (the newest black one) and I have an older Pioneer HD TV.  I noticed that I don't have a HDMI port on the TV and only a USB connection.  My question is, can I still hook up the AppleTV to my TV with other connection wires and will it still allow me to use my ITunes music, photos and Netflix with the same picture and sound quality?
    Thank you!

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
The Apple TV will not work over USB, the only type of connection supported is HDMI.

  • How can I set up my Apple TV if I only have one spot for an HDMI cable.

how do I hook up my apple tv if I only have one spot for an HDMI cable.

How many different devices (DVD player, cable box, etc.) do you have besides the Apple TV to connect to your TV? If you aren't going to use any of these others, you won't need a switcher.
Also, depending on the device & what other kinds of inputs your TV might have, you may be able to hook them up to other inputs besides your only HDMI one. The quality might be lower for them, & you might have to use several cables for sound & video, but that might end up being acceptable if you use your ATV much more often than the others.

  • I have one of the old macbooks and wish to hook it up to my tv. do i need a mini dvi to hdmi adapter plus a 3 rca phono lead with a jack for the sound. please help as im useless at this stuff. cheers

i have one of the old macbooks and wish to hook it up to my tv. do i need a mini dvi to hdmi adapter plus a 3 rca phono lead with a jack for the sound. please help as im useless at this stuff. cheers

First we need to know which one of the 9 different models of MacBook you have. To see which model you have go to the Apple in the upper left corner and select About This Mac, then click on More Info (and then System Report if you’re running 10.7 Lion). When System Profiler comes up check the Model Identifier and post it back here.
The Late 2008 model 5,1 Aluminum Unibody and the Late 2009 model 6,1 and Mid 2010 model 7,1 White Unibody have a Mini DisplayPort. The Early 2006 model 1,1 through Early 2008 model 4,1s plus the Early and Mid 2009 model 5,2s have Mini-DVI ports. Each would take a different adapter to connect with the TV.

My TV is mounted on a wall so I can't connect the Apple TV device. Is it possible to connect to an HD Cable Box and send signal to TV that way? Other problem is that Box only has one HDMI socket so would also have to use a splitter. Tried Apple Support but couldn't offer a solution. I can't be the only person with this issue surely?
    Help!

No, unless you are using a home theatre system already, your only option is to connect to the TV.

  • How can I do a separate video in and out on my 21.5" iMac, and only have 1 thunderbolt port?

The set up that I have is one 21.5" iMac using the thunderbolt port I am sending a feed to a projector and a couple monitors for our worship service (To display the lyrics). Now I am ready for video broadcasting online, I have a camcorder connected to a Blackmagic Design Intensity Extreme which has a thunderbolt port to connect to my iMac. But I have a problem, the 21.5" iMac only has one thunderbolt port and it's already in use (For the worship service lyrics). Is there any way to receive the HD video feed from the camcorder/Blackmagic set up into the FireWire port? Or use the thunderbolt for the camcorder set up and use the FireWire port to send the video feed for the worship service?

Hello all those who took the time to help me with my problem. Thank you all. Yes I do have the option of sending it back to my camera I have found again since I went into iMovie.
My problem was I did the slide show in Iphoto because I wanted to use the Burns effect and the only option was to put it into iDVD (not iMovie) from there.
By putting the shots in iMovie I can send it back to my camera BUT cannot use the Burns effect so I am left with the black side on each side of the picture in the postcard. Guess you can't have everything.
THanks again you have all been very patient and helpful.
    Stella
    P.S.
re: It's in iMovie HD 7 that the Share menu appeared. .......No, it's in 6.0.3 on mine but only in iMovie not in the iDVD where I was trying to work.
