I only see "PHP" icons in Design View, not the executed code

I have setup a new database installation and tested it - no problem.  I can open my webpage in Firefox, and the php code executes properly.  When I imported this site into Dreamweaver, I am unable to see the results of any executed PHP code, just "PHP" icons.
Is it possible to view the results of the executed PHP code in Dreamweaver.   I'm not talking about complicated PHP code, just a bunch of 'echo' statements really.
Thanks from a DreamWeaver newbie.

I have moved your thread to the appropriate forum, Dreamweaver Application Development, which is where PHP-related issues should be discussed.
In answer to your question, PHP is a server-side language that needs to be parsed (executed) through a web server capable of handling PHP code. In order to see the output of the PHP code, you need to set up a testing server. Instructions on how to do so can be found in this article in the Dreamweaver Developer Centre. Once you have set up a testing server, you can see the output of the PHP code in Design view by activating Live View (in Dreamweaver CS4) or Live Data view in earlier versions of Dreamweaver.

  • Design view not the same as live view

My design view is totally different the IE view or live view
in cs4, I read a thread that you have to basically live with it?
I hope this is not true, can anybody confirm?
    Thx
    Brad

You can see the IE result at http://www.spaline.ca/dreamweaver/
and I ahve attached a screen shot in a pdf.

  • Design view not displaying but code view is ok

    Hi Everyone,
my design view in dreamweaver cs5.5 is not displaying anything but all the code is there and my page online is working fine http://www.exclusivewindowtint.com.au/car-window-tinting.html
How can i fix this as easy as possible? this is only happening to this one page on my website.
    Thank You
    George

I have to second  Murray on this.
I will go a step further and say ignoring errors on your site because someone else's site has some is extremely poor advice, especially considering the volume of people visiting this forum alone with a random display problems that are solved by simply correcting the errors found in the validators.
Restoring from a backup may work this time, but why did it work? That's where validation, and understanding what the validator is telling you, pays off. You somehow inadvertantly mangled your table code, will that ever happen again? What happens if your backup also has the same mangled code next time?
Some validation errors are never going to affect display and can be completely ignored from a "how does this affect my design" point of view, like missing an alt attribute on an image for instance. Others, like missing or improperly nested html elements, can kill your design in browsers or rendering engines that can't handle major errors (like most versions of IE or DW's Design View) while everything looks fine in a browser better programmed to handle problems (like Chrome or Firefox).
Bottom line is, the validators are extremely useful tools, do not ignore the  error report unless you understand which errors can be ignored.

  • Accented characters copied into design view not converting in code mode?

    Hello!
I just upgraded from Dreamweaver MX to CS6 (patched to v12.0.3) and am having a problem with French characters.  In the past, I copied text that contained accented characters like "é" and, when I pasted it into the Design window, I could see in the Code window that the accented characters would be converted into "& eacute;" (without the space) so that it would show up properly in all broswers.  This doesn't seem to be the case with CS6 - it is just pasting the "é".  This is a very large problem for me - does anyone know how I can restore whichever setting it is that will cause the paste function to work the same way it did in DW MX?
I've tried playing with the settings in Edit --> Preferences --> Code Rewriting and with New Document --> Default Encoding, but I guess I just haven't found the right combo to get it to work.
    Any help would be appreciated!
    Thanks,
    -Cherie

If I understand it correctly, it doesn't.  I know that modern browsers would be able to understand the characters if it is encoded with UTF-8, but I need older browsers and adaptive technologies to be able to understand the accented characters, so I don't think I can go with UTF-8 yet.

  • Ive just purchased lightroom 5. In LRM 4, under Photo, edit in, I have been using NIK software color efex, silver efex, DFine, viveza, etc. When I go to the menu for "edit in", I only see an option for silver efex, not the rest of the NIK software package

How do I access all my NIK software (color fee, silver efex, define, viveza) in LRM 5 under "edit in". The options appear in LRM 4,But sinceIjust began w LRM 5, I don't see the NIK software options in the menu: Photo, edit in...? Thanks

You will need to reinstall your Nik Plugins.

  • Unable to view php files in Design View?

Need help! I cannot select design view when working with a PHP document, the DesignView option is disabled?
    My information.
    -          Dreamweaver CS5
    -          Mac OSX 10.6 snow Lepoard
I have searched online and I also went through the FAQ but couldn’t find anything relating to this particular issue and my Professor at school said that I need to contact Adobe directly as design view should always be available but all that I would see in Design View are the HTML elements within the PHP file.
The Design View button is disabled, I can not click on it all and so for my class assignments. I have to copy the PHP code into a new HTML document and only then am I able to view the html/php and edit the HTML elements, and then copy and paste it back into the PHP file once I have the html elements/design set up correctly.
I did a similar “Set up PHP for Mac OS X – MAMP” to the version available here, could I have set this up incorrectly and that is why Design View is disabled?
Thanks I appreciate your guys expertise and any help!

Go to Dreamweaver > Preferences, and select File Types / Editors from the Category list on the left. Make sure that .php is NOT listed among the filename extensions in "Open in code view".
Adding a filename extension to that list prevents files from being opened in Design view.

  • Can not see the design view nor the java file in CentOS

Hi all. I've recently installed JSC2 in CentOS. I find this tool really useful. But I have a problem with the design view and the java file view. At the beginning, when I first create a Page1.jsp, I can see the design view and the java view with no problem. I run apps correctly. But after a while, I get a "null pointer exception" error and I am able to see only the jsp view, not the others. I don't even have the option to see the Design and Java views. And the page icon in the project window appears to be darker than a well working page. I'm not really sure what sequence of actions I do to get this error, it just suddenly happens. What I've done so far in JSC2 is to link to pages in the Page Navigation view. It works fine for a while, but after a while I get the error I've described.

Yes, if I do that It happens the same. I've tried everything. Now I'm using Window$ 2000 and it works properly. Thanks anyway.

  • Can't see .cfm files in Design view

Can't see .cfm files in Design view in Dreamweaver CC.

    Hi pkregel,
Do these files open as intended in Dreamweaver CS6? I am not a CF expert but I am guessing that if you are able to open the files, then you should be able to see them in both the views. Can you post a screenshot as well?
    Thanks,

  • Can't see my page in design view, usind split screen

Hi everyone, I am new to these forums and new to dreamweaver,
I have a problem which I have no idea how to fix.
I have been using the program (in my limited ability) saved
my work, then when I opened it today, I have no design view in Code
and Design view. The top part is fine but all I have is lots of
    lines at the bottom.
The actual website seems fine, but just means I can't make
any changes other than in code view, which I a not skilled enough
    to do.
    Please help.
    Regards
    Hypnoman

  • Design view not displaying

    Hi there
I am very new to Dreamweaver working on an existing website.
I have one page that is giving me problems. The web page itself is displaying just fine.
In Dreamweaver, I am viewing with a split page, code on top and design on the bottom.
The design page is not showing up. The code is there, the web page is there, its just I can't see anything in the design section, except the top and side headers which are fixed in place.
If I switch to design only view, its the same.
Every other page is fine - I can see code and design - its just this one.
    It's Dreamweaver 8.
    Thanks
    Jamie

Ok I just found the advanced icons and now have ny double >> button. So I have pasted in text, highted it all and selected hopefully it is plain syntax highlighting.
If you go to the webpage - http://unicredit.com.au/loans/home.html
There is the heading “No Home Loan Set Up fees: til March31.”
Then there is a bunch of copy and the circular pics start.
All that copy in between the heading and the circular pics is not in my design view.
ie my design view shows the heading “No Home Loan Set Up fees: til March31” and then the circular pics.
The web page shows it all, the code view shows it all, it’s just the design view that doesn’t.

  • Design View Not Working Properly

Hi, I save my web site files as .php and I'm using DW CS5. When I switch to Design View all I get are a couple of icons. Why won't it display the page for me?

    Save file as 'test.html'
If you still cannot see anything in design view, use the validation tools below and fix reported errors.
    Code Validation Tools
    CSS - http://jigsaw.w3.org/css-validator/
    HTML - http://validator.w3.org/
If you're still not seeing anything in Design View, post your code into the web forum with  >> Syntax highlighting > Plain.
Code in the web forum looks like this.

  • Design view not working after importing project from Flex Builder

After importing a project from Flex Builder to Flash Builder I am no longer able to see anything in the design view. I am using the flex 4.5 sdk.
Any idea how I can get this design view working? I heard it could have something to do with the metadata directory but am slightly lost here?...
    Adam

Could you please provide more information as to what exactly are you importing. Also does Design View not lauch at all or does it give errors. Would it be possible for you to share the logs.
Meanwhile you can try cleaning the workspace and importing again to see if that solves the issue.

  • Design View Not displaying the page

Recently I asked the same question here but I think I did not explain myself correctly. I have hunted for answers but not found any so I am asking again with images this time.
I have had this site written for me and I know it was written in DW. They claim that they can work with the file no problem but I certainly cannot.
When I try to open it all I can see in the design view is the <div> boxes as below. If I display it in split view - live - I can see the page.
Is this display what I should expect or is there some other reason like code errors ??
Cheers and thanks for the help

In other words, you have a script block AND a CSS block between </head> and <body>. That's invalid code. Move it to where it belongs inside the <head> region.  You could have found this in an instant by checking the page here - http://validator.w3.org.

  • I had 2 games of clash of clans on 1 game centre.  Now I can only see one?  How can I find the other one?

My kids had 2 games of clash of clans on 1 game centre.  Now I can only see one?  How can I find the other one?
My daughter set up a game centre on her ipad.  My son, on his ipad used the same game centre log in.  He then set up his own game of clash of clans.  After my son set up his Clash of Clans, my daugher set up her own Clash of Clans using the same game centre log in on her ipad.  Both were using the Clash of Clans successfully on their own ipads using the same game centre log in.
One day my son signed into someone elses Clash of Clans, since then he is unable to go back to his Clash of Clans and can only see his sisters.
Please let me know if this can be resolved.
We wish to delete my daughters Clash of Clans - as she does not use it at all.  We would like to regain access to my sons.
My son can visit his Clash of Clans - his clan name is 'The Big Boys'  He has a shield that is blue with a yellow lightning from top right to bottom left.  His name is Fat Poo (I know ridiculous).
If you can help us or advise us what to do we would make my son very happy
    thanks

Thanks for taking a stab at it: that didn't prove to be the problem. That option in the settings for tabbed browsing was not checked.
I may be a bit behind the times: I am used to tabbed browsing showing all the tabs it possibly can, instead of just the last one. Sometimes it won't even show the last tab: I can have 15 tabs open, and not see a single tab. I've been confused by this into closing a window with lots of tabs open, because it looks like a single page-window.
My main problem with the tab-bar flashing to the end of the row is that it means a great deal more mouse-clicking around to browse.
I haven't tried installing the latest beta. Maybe that would fix the problem.
