Yes, it's compatible with the first gen iPad - I use one with mine.

Apple iPad Camera Connection Kit, can I use it with USB speakers?
I have a speaker system which has a USB connection so can i use Apple iPad Camera Connection Kit to listen to the music from my iphone 4 on to the speakers..will the camera connection kit support it?
The Camera Connection Kit is for connecting a camera or SD card to your iPad and downloading photos. It is not a general USB port addition to your iPad.

This error displays on every single SD card I connect and none of them work. This has worked fine for months now, but until a few days ago, it has stopped working. I believe it could have been a recent update but I am not sure. I need to import images from my camera but I do not have the USB Camera Connector.
Welcome to the Apple Community.
I'd check your HDMI cable is seated correctly at each end to begin with, pull it out and put it in again, if that doesn't help...
Please tell us how are you trying to play video from the iPad, is it via AirPlay or are you using the iPad to control the Apple TV and at what point is the message displayed. -
IPad Camera Connection Kit and iPhone 3GS
I just got home with a Camera Connection kit and while it works with an iPhone 4 and even with an old iPhone 3G I had lying around, it doesn't work with my iPhone 3GS, giving me a "The attached accessory uses too much power" error. Both the iPad and the iPhone work normally (and the iPhone's warranty expired 5 months ago). I have already tried to reset settings, reboot both the iPad and the iPhone and still couldn't getit to work. Is there anything I need to know to make it work with the 3GS running 4.2.1?
Here are some picturres of what is happening. If it works with the iPhone 3G and the 4, it should work with the 3GS as well...

I can't use The camera connection kit with nikon coolpix s3300
The camera connection kit (USB) doesn't work with Nikon coolpix s3300
The Hero 2 will also nest folders in the DCIM folder and the camera connection kit will read the files in them. Another option to viewing your videos in HD would be to use an app that can play H.264 video, where you will drag and drop the videos in to the iTunes File Sharing under the Apps tab.
If you've never used the File Sharing, simply keep you iPad docked to your computer, select your device, tap on the Apps tab, scroll down past the screen shot of your iPad's home page to File Sharing. In there scroll to the app you're going to share with and tap on it to select it. Then from your computer or straight from your GoPro, select the video(s) and drag them over to iTunes and drop them into the area under Document and you should see the files transfer to the app. When the transfer is done you should be able to see them play in a video app that can play H.264 video, I know the Flex:Player app is one of them. VLC will play 1080p, but not very well. -
I bought a camera connection kit. First time it worked fine, using the USB connector, but now neither the USB nor SD connector works. The iPad shows a connector is attached, but Photos doesn't open. Any ideas? thanks
If you have not done so, try exiting the Photo app (and maybe more apps if you have a lot open) from the Open Apps List and see if a discount/reconnect opens the app. If that does not work, try powering down the iPad and test. If it is still not working try a hard reset by pressing both Home and Sleep/Wake buttons at the same time until the Apple graphic appears, ignoring the Slide to Power Off button.

I recently purchased an iPad camera connection kit hoping to directly download pictures from my camera to my iPad. When I put my memory card into the adapter and plug it in to my iPad nothing happens. My camera is a Sony Cybershot and the memory card is a Sony memory stick PRO duo 512 mb. I don't think I am doing anything incorrect. Is my camera/memory card incompatible with this adapter?
The Camera Connection Kit works with SD cards, not Memory Sticks.
Maybe you can find an MS to SD adapter, or use the USB connection with the USB cable that came with the camera. -
Since updating my iPad devices (iPad 1,2 and iPad) with the latest iOS, I can no longer use the camera connection kit to load photos directly into my camera roll. Anybody have any ideas on remedying this problem?
Open Disk Utility, select the External Hard Drives first icon in the list of Drives, click the Repair Disk button.

I bought a camera connection kit but fail to connect to my iPad . My iPad prompt me that my attached device using too much power ! I got no problem using the SD connecting kit. My camera is Samsung EX1 , pls advise
Do your cameras support Picture Transfer Protocol (PTP) and/or USB Mass Storage Device Protocol (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4106), and if so do you need to change a camera menu setting in order to enable it ?

I have an iPad (1). Trying to load photos. Connected a camera kit, inserted an SDHC card with photos. Nothing.... How do I get the photos loaded onto the iPad?
rSH8745-
At first glance, your iPad should have reacted to the presence of the SDHC card.
Are you sure the card is SDHC and not SDXC? I do not think the newer XC format is compatible with the SD adapter in the Camera Connection Kit.
How did the photos get on the card? The iPad expects them to be in the same format as if they had been stored there by the camera. They should be in a folder named DCIS. Their file names should have 8 characters plus suffix.
Have you tried connecting the camera's USB cable to the USB adapter in the Camera Connection Kit?

RAW picture previews loading extremely slow since IOS 8 using the Apple iPad Camera Connection Kit
Hi all
First, sorry for my poor english, I hope you understand my problem.
Device is iPad Air Wi-Fi with IOS 8.
I just realized this issue yesterday. I wanted to import some of my RAW pictures from my Nikon camera's SD card, using the Apple iPad Camera Connection Kit. In the Photos app / Import tab, the RAW picture previews show extremely slow. It takes a second to show each photo preview before import. A second for every single picture preview
For example, if you have 500 pictures on your SD card, and you want to import pictures from this card but just some selected, then you need to wait for an overview preview a lot of minutes. On IOS 7 this process was maybe 10 seconds for all of the pictures...Same problem here. As a professional wedding photographer, sifting through my photos while on the go is the reason for me purchasing the iPad (Retina) 2 years ago, I now have an $800 paperweight after iOS8.x.x. Apple, if you actually read these, please inform your engineers to fix this in the next update or at least provide us with a solution to return to iOS7.x.x. Makes me wonder if there is any QA or testing that goes on before an update is released. As an FYI, here's my thread from a few weeks ago: Native Photos App, Slow... No, I mean really slow.

When I connect the USB dongle from the camera connection kit I get an accessory not supported by iPad message. The card reader triggered the same msg but works now. Same msg with vga. Others have posted this problem but the only suggestion anyone has offered is to reboot, which doesn't help. I've tried.
Thanks Fred. The nearest Apple store is about two hours away, so we did the next best thing & took it to Best Buy. It stumped the "Apple Guy" there. Apparently when an Apple product is turned on it works. Period. I'm impressed that the products are normally so dependable--it just stinks that I got the one in a million that's not. Anyway, now we wait for a service call Tuesday morning. Thanks again!

Once pictures are moved from your camera to your iPad (using the camera connection kit), how do you get the photos off of the iPad? They do not show up in my photo stream or my iCloud. I am able to see any photo I took on the iPad using the iPad camera (in iTunes, photo stream, or when I open windows explorer and browse the iPad director), however I cannot see any photos transfered from my camera to the iPad. The camera connection kit must have put my photos in a directory I cannot get to and cannot sync.
The links below have instructions for deleting photos.

I don't have a wireless printer, and want to print things off of my iPad. I know that I can use the iPad Camera Connection kit to connect USB devices like keyboards and I am wondering if I could do the same with a USB printer.
I don't think you can connect a printer since you won't have the printer drivers. I use FingerPrint from collobos.com to print to my non-AirPrint printers.

I have just purchased the new iPad with the camera connection kit. I just want to be able insert my SD card into the Pad and view my photos, not import them. Can this be done and how? Please advise. Thank you.
See this article: iPad: Using the iPad Camera Connection Kit
No, this canot be done, afaik. When your camera or card is connected, you will see the thumbnails in the camera pane, but not full size preview. So to browse your photos on the iPad you will need to import them to your camera roll. But you need not delete them from the camera or card after importing, so you might simply import selected photos to your camera roll from the camera grid and then delete them again from the camera roll after importing and browsing, without removing them from the card/camera.

Léonie
