I-phone 5 touch screen freezing

My iPhone 5 keeps freezing and won't allow me to type then decides to shut down the text message it screen I am using. I have turned the phone off and on and keeps happening not all of the time but enough to become annoying, can this be fixed?
I don't want to have to take it into the store as it doesn't freeze on cue and it freezes randomly, it is under warranty but didn't know if I could fix the issue?

Well maybe the drop did more damage than you think, even if it doesn't appear to be any damage.
usually a reset will resolve the issue, but since it didn't, then schedule an appointment with the genius bar and take it to the Apple store.
May need to buy an out of warranty iphone or have the screen replaced.

Ipod touch 1st gen. touch screen freezes up

I have a 1st gen ipod touch, after a year the touch screen freezes up constantly. I reboot, restart, re sync, upgrade, updated firmware, made sure sure the browser was cleared, I don't even have 1/2 the memory used, now & then it will unfreeze, but most of the time it is frozen. Very unreliable. Thank god it is not a phone. I even took it into the so called "Genius Bar" and they just told me to buy a new one...had this thing a little over a year...and they really think I am going to purchase more Apple products? It is pretty sad when the folks that make this crap can't diagnose it...
Anybody else in this boat?

Try restoring to factory defaults/new iPod if you have not already done that. If you still have the problem then you very likely have a hardware problems and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

Iphone 5 touch screen freezes, is my iPhone defective?

My iPhone 5 touch screen frequently freezes. If I leave it alone it will be OK in a couple of minutes. Is this a common problem or do I have a defective iPhone?

I have a similar problem, but waiting does not solve it. If I cycle the power button it will work again, but it keeps happening and it is really annoying. I have had the phone since it came out, and only started haveing this problem in the last couple of days. I have tried a reset -- makes no difference.

Hardcore lagging screen, touch screen freezes, all...

Iv had this phone for 3,4 weeks now and soon as I got it its been messing up. All pages I pull up randomly close out. Screen flickers and lags bad so I have to take out battery and my touch screen is always freezing. It's also oddly shaped an odd to hang on to. I like what's its about but idk if I really care for the size I got. I'd really like the 7 or 950. I also paid twice as much as what everywhere else sells this 635 for at an at&t store. I'm just very unsatisfied. I send this in and you trade me out for one size up ill be happy other than that. Idk if I want another 635 that's going to mess up on me

Do it by going to Store >... > settings > check for updates, then check if this will make any difference. IPhone 3GS 16GB v3.1.3 - Touch Screen Freezes

Hi, I just bought my first iphone and I am having an issue that I don't know if it normal or a problem with my phone hardware or software:
I am using for example for web browsing or texting someone or using the maps application (or ANY application) and suddenly the touchscreen stops working, I mean, the image is still there, but i press anywhere and i get no response. the Home button works, but after going to the Home, the touch screen is still freezed... I have to lock/unlock the phone to get the touchscreen back to work, which continues to work flawlessly for some time, but if I give it some intense use, this becomes constant. The application or the OS is not freezed, just the Touch part of the screen, as the Home button still works and the lock/unlock button also, function that fixes the problem, but I find this very annoying and I dont know if it is normal as it is my first iphone.
Is this normal or a problem with the OS? i would try the reseting of the phone (i already restarted a lot of times) but I dont want to lose all the information I already loaded or the apps I already bought. The phone came with OS 3.1.2 loaded, and i updated it to 3.1.3 to see if this would fix it but no success.

With a Reset, you will not lose any data or settings. This is a Reset: press the home and sleep buttons until you see the Apple logo, ignoring the slider. Takes about 5-15 secs of button holding and you won't lose any data or settings.
There is also a Restore, which I believe you are referring to when you say reset. A Restore with your backup will wipe your iPhone, install the latest FW and then install your backup, which will have all your settings and app data. Essentially, your iPhone will be just like before the Restore, except working, hopefully.
A Restore without your backup will wipe your iPhone and install the latest FW, giving you a factory fresh iPhone.
I would start with the Reset as described above and only Restore if that doesn't work.

IPod Touch 1G "touch-screen freeze" after Wi-Fi connect (since 1.1.4) + log

Hi everybody,
I have a big problem with the touch-screen since approximately 2 months.
The problem is:
1. I turn on my iPod Touch 1G (Firmware 3.0), works
2. I activate my Wi-Fi (it connects, wi-fi bar is visible), works
Then the real problem starts (mainly while and after using Safari, sometimes even without using it)
After a few seconds the iPod freezes.
The strange thing is, only the touch-screen itself seems to be "deactivated"
If I leave the iPod calm for some minutes I am able to "unlock" it again.
All in all it seems, that the iPod deactivates the touch-screen after being connected to the Internet, because if I turn off the Wi-Fi connection, everything works fine.
This problem appeared since firmware 2.0 (1.1.3 worked fine i think) and now I have 3.0 and it is still the same problem.
Already downgraded, upgraded, jailbreaked, un-jailbreaked it. I tried everything.
Another solution to come to my Home-Screen is to Lock/Unlock a few times, sometimes this works.
I renewed the firmware more than once (10-15 times) and still do not ger rid of this problem. (Also in "recovery" mode)
Same thing with Youtube:
1. Starting Youtube
2. (If I am able to search a video) selecting a video
3. Video plays, but no touch-pad reaction anymore
I am not able to work with it anymore.
And I am sure it is a software problem, due to the fact the touch-screen reacts(!).
_A "forced restart" (Home + Lock Button hold for a few seconds) does not help, problem is still the same._

Has someone an idea how to get into the system of the iPod, that i am able to see what he is doing?
I already tried to works with XCode, but not able to connect to my device.
Also worked with the iPhone Utility, nevertheless a bit helpful.
Or a hint, how to destroy my actual firmware and to set up a new one, means setting up a completely (brand) new iPod like i bought it at the store?!
Support can not help me any more because my warranty is over ince 2 days.

I phone Touch screen Dead Zone

I have had my I phone since it first came out.
Now a year and a week after I got it. My lower1/4" of the touch screen dose not responde to touch making the phone useless.
It kind of ***** because I treated this thing like baby the whole time I had it.
The phone is in perfect not one single mark on it never been dropped or wet.. I took it to get check out and all they did was run a restore.. that didn't help.
They said it would have to be sent in but since my warranty was over a a week ago I would have to pay $199...
dose any one know a way to fix this with out having to pay 199 on a phone I paid $499 only a year ago.

You have really take a diplomatic approach. Apple has some longitude in certain areas.
Try to go into an Apple store and tell them that this issue had started to appear and you didn't pay close attention to it, and now that you are 1 week out of warranty it appears to be a defect. Face to Face interaction at the store is the best place to start.
If that fails try calling customer service. If you still have problems, then right a letter. Yes, good old fashioned pen and paper - NOT EMAIL. Politely detail the timeline and attempts to get this fixed. There are other threads about this issue (search for them), so maybe mention that others have experienced this too, but be prepared to have references (the thread or newsgroup where you found the issue). When your letter is finished send it registered mail/return receipt requested to Apple customer service.
It never hurts to mention how satisfied you are with Apple products and a loyal customer. Don't lie or go over the top. Be truthful, polite and factual. Ask to have your device repaired or replaced, but don't ask for a new 3G unit as they will then think you are trying to scam them.
You want to make a good case for yourself, and acting in good faith, try to show them that this is something that they should cover under warranty. If you can show lots of others had the same issue, then they will most likely cover this for you.

IPod touch screen freezes up and become unresponsive whenever it needs to prompt me for passcode

I know my problem may sound strange. My iPod touch is complete screwed to the point that I can only unlock it using the password when it boots up from off mode. After that, when I lock the screen and it prompts me for the password again, I slide the slider and it hangs down there. I tried to go to the settings app to turn off the passcode but it needs to prompt me to enter my current passcode before I can enter to turn it off and it just hangs down there. I tried to Reset All Settings which also needs my passcode, I tapped on "Reset All Settings" and the next thing it should pop out is ask me to enter my passcode but it just freezes down there being unresponsive. Help. I've tried restoring but there was an error message in the process of restoring.

I suspected it is a bug of iOS 5.1.1. The problem is in a very vicious loop. But with many tries, there will be times when it doesn't hang when it needs to prompt you to enter a passcode. Found a solution here: https://discussions.apple.com/message/18896056

IPhone 4, unusable as phone because screen freezes

My iPhone4 dropped a call this afternoon and the screen locked on me. Now when I receive or make a call I cannot use the phone because the screen is frozen. I came home and did a restore with the newest operating system, but it did not fix the problem.

Since I last wrote about my phone, I have gone twice to the Genius Bar.
I was asked if I had done a complete restore to factory settings. I went home and did that, but the problem remained. My phone would make and receive calls, but there was no sound and when I tried to answer a call or end a call the screen would freeze.
My second trip to the Genius Bar, I described this problem and they gave me a new phone on the spot saying that since I had done the recommended software fixes, it was a hardware problem. My phone is about three months old so it was under warranty.

Whenever I am using the phone, my face somehow inadvertently causes the call to either go to mute or speaker phone. I am not touching the screen at all. Is there a way to minimize the touch? I can't possibly be any further from the screen when I am talking to someone. It happens quite frequently during each conversation I have had during the past 3 days.

When the screen is close to your face the proximity sensor will lock the iphone so that you can't hit the buttons.
Try putting it closer to your face so that the proximity sensor can work.
Another possibility is that you have a case on the iphone that is blocking the sensors so they do not work. If you have a case, take it off and see if that helps.

Ipod Touch screen freezes when syncing

After my ipod touch 2G fell victim to the white screen of death, i decided to use an ipod touch 1G we had. After updating itunes, i updated the ipod's software to 3.1.3. After the update and the backup (pre-restoration) everything was fine with it until the sync started; the ipod screen would freeze with the apple icon on it and the status bar around 1/4 of the way to completion. When itunes shows that the content completed syncing and the ipod was ready to be disconnected the logo and staus bar stayed put. After disconnecting the screen still has no change, doesn't go dark or lock or anything. I tried putting it into recovery mode and restoring it several times. Help?

If the screen remains on and you can't turn it off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an hour try a reset, recovery mode and restore as appropriate. If the iPod acts the same as before then you likely have a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

Ipod touch screen freezes up

I have an ipod touch thats a year old it worked fine untill a few days after I updated it recently. If I leave it alone for awhile the touchscreen will work for awhile but if I start an app or try to do anything but scroll around the main screen the touchscreen will stop working soon after I start the app or program. I have done everything apple recomends you do for this problem. Is there anything else I can do about it? Or do I have to send it in and pay who knoes what for this problem?

Touch screen keeps freezing

All too often, the touch screen freezes on me. This usually happens after I try and make a gesture. Then the screen becomes completely unresponsive.
The button at the bottom still works. I can either wait about a minute, and then the screen unfreezes, or I can push the power button at the top, put the phone in standby mode and then the screen is responsive as soon as I wake it up from the home button again.
Please let me know any suggestions to resolve this. Thanks.

That's harsh, but looks like it is true!
I am having the exact same problem as everyone else here. Since upgrading to the iOS4.0.1 my phone has become incredibly slow and unresponsive. The touch screen will often lock/freeze not allowing you to answer calls. This would not be such a terrible thing if the "home" button could be configured as a back-up answer mode. I have missed several important phone calls as a result.
The 3G and 3GS were great phones. Maybe a few glitches here and there but at least you could answer the phone when a call came in!
Likewise, "Windows 97" was a great OS then Microsoft decided to make improvements and developed "Vista". Now Microsoft's towering kingdom is falling because they would never admit that they developed a flawed system. Now they have come out with Windows 7, but it's too late every one has given up and started moving to Mac.
Apple, beware that your pride and arrogance doesn't take you to the same fate. You need to offer some sort of customer support where we can inform you of issues like these. We should not have to pay to talk to a tech when it is a flaw in your software that is causing the problems.
