I POD CLASSIC CHARGER

Reference my earlier question about charging my Classic.
My Apple store charger (from Apple) is rated as a 12w usb adaptor.
I have just plugged the Classic into my pc via the usual port and it shows it clearly charging with the correct symbols, transferring it to the wall charger the display does not......i am confused. Plug my Shuffle it to same wall charger and it does indeed charge up....i did it last night.
Would it be best to return the charger to the Apple store for a refund as i need it to charge both my Classic and Shuffle???
Many Thanks....Steve.

If yours is a genuine Apple 30 pin connector it may have two tabs on either side that must be pressed to release its internal locking tabs, so press hard, and pull hard.
Make every effort to pull it straight out, not at an angle, and have a soft "backstop" such as a pillow in case the iPod goes flying out of your other hand when the connector finally lets loose.
If you can't get a good grip on the connector with your fingers you may need to use a pair of straight slip-joint pliers. Using a tool like that may destroy the connector in an effort to remove it, but you may not have any other choice.

  • I pod classic battery dies (2n ipod classic that i've had to do this) and won't hold a charge. 1 month out of warranty. How do you get a company to make better products or have better warrantys?

Second time this has happened to an ipod classic that i bought (the last one I bought 14 months ago and it is out of apples warranty.) Battery won't hold a charge or even register when pluged into anything (wall charger, USB, mac book, etc.)
Apple is refusing to do anything except charge me $60 for a refurbished battery (let me remind you that I gave them $370 14 months ago for a brand-new (not refurbished) i pod classic.
Any ideas on how to troubleshoot this battery issue? The obvious answer is for apple to make a better product (2 ipod classics, 2 ipod classic battery die outs. the most recent purchase in a shocking 14months ago.) Better products or more realistic and forgiving warrantly policys.) I am NOT going to pay for the $60 swap out as Apple has taken enough money from this sucker (will never purchase another shoddy apple product again.)
Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice? Shame on me for giving my $ to apple. THEY ARE A FAD COMPANY WHOSE PRODUCTS ARE PART OF A CULTURAL FAD---nothing real is in there (well SOMETHING was real and working for 14months.)

I feel your angst, especially, knowing that Apple has become the most profitable company in the world, by selling us products that breaks down when the warranty run out, and crap service staff, who doesn't know anything about the iPod Classic, except offer to sell us refurbished iPod classic.
You can get the Battery replaced at 3rd Party store for less.
BTW, (most contributors might not agree with me) if  you recharged your iPod everyday, it will be dead just 2 months after the warranty expires. My logic, the iPod battery will last for about 400 recharge cycles according to Apple Specs listed below
    Charge Cycles
A properly maintained iPod battery is designed to retain up to 80% of its original capacity at 400 full charge and discharge cycles
So if your lifestyle is plugin in to car Audio dock, while driving, and plug in to home stereo while home, then it is 2-3 charge cycles per day.
But then you cant do anything about it, just switch to another media player.

  • My i pod classic 120gb will only run approx 4hrs on a full charge

when i take my i pod classic off full charge it now runs for only 4 hours then it goes flat
i rember when i first got it i could have 2 days before it needed charged up again

Follow the instructions here that apply to your model. If that doesn't solve the problem, take it to an authorized service center.

  • My i-Pod classic is no longer listed as a device & cannot sync.

I have an i-Pod classic (click-wheel) that works just fine.  I recently transferred my i-Tunes to a new Windows computer, successfully.  I just tried to sync my i-Pod and found that my i-Pod is not listed as one of my authorized devices - therefore it won't sync.  I removed the former computer from the list, but not my i-Pod.  How can I get my i-Pod back on that list of devices - there is no "add a device" icon...  When I called support, they just tried to charge me more money to investigate the problem.  How hard is it to simply put my device (that I already paid money for...) back on my list, as it was in August before I got the new computer?  I am starting to feel like they are forcing me to purchase a new i-Pod.... not cool for the customer.

  • Hello, I would like to buy an I Pod Classic 160 GB and have heard that the volume limit in Europe has been reduced from the factory. Are the devices in the U.S.A also affected?

Hello, I would like to buy an I Pod Classic 160 GB and have heard that the volume limit in Europe has been reduced from the factory.
Are the devices in the U.S.A also affected?
    Volker

No, they are not. But getting round this is not that simple.
Until recently, the European Volume Limit that you're referring to affected iPods sold within the EU (European Union countries), so one purchased in the US would not be affected by this. Nor, in theory, would an iPod purchased in Norway or Russia, since neither of them are in the EU.
However, iPod Classics now sold within the UK (where I live) now appear to have an option to disable the EU Volume Limit. I would assume therefore, that this option is available on an iPod Classic bought anywhere within the EU. The firmware on an iPod Classic that can turn off the EU volume Limit is 2.0.5.
iPod Classics running earlier versions of the firmware (including 2.0.4) cannot be upgraded. I have personally seen one with 2.0.5 Mac on it in an Apple Store and the EU limit could be turned off. Check the picture from Badgorr in this thread New Option to turn off EU Volume Cap?  (It's towards the bottom of the page.) However, non-Apple stores may still have older stock, so be aware of this when you go shopping.
Experience tells me that buying an iPod from outside the European Union area is not that simple and you are unlikely to manage it. Apple will not ship goods to another country. So either you travel to the US to buy one from a shop (that's a bit extravagant) or you persuade someone else to buy one and send it to you. However, not only will you have the cost of shipping, but in either case, your country's tax department will almost certainly add tax to it when it comes into the country. The service delivering it will apply the tax and charge you for doing so as well or you get charged by the customs department at the airport.

  • What cable do I need to connect an i-pod classic to a Boze Wave machine?

What cable do I need to connect an I-pod classic to a Boze wave machine?

If you're trying to transfer the music, from the Nano to the Air, you have to either download your purchased songs again in the purchased tab of iTunes or sync them to the Air, using iTunes on your computer.
Its been a few years since I've used a Nano, but IIRC, the only way to get the music on the device to begin with is by syncing with iTunes, so the songs have to be in your iTunes library.

  • Is there a better way to share your music library outside your home network other than using an i-Pod classic?

APPLE-Here's a complement and a question.  Why has the i-Pod Classic fallen from grace compared to other i-Pods?    Please know that while I can share my music using home sharing within my home network with a different i-Tune account, it seems to me that the best benefit of having an i-Pod Classic is that you can give your dedicated music library and device to a friend or housemate to use outside your wireless network (and not on the internet) to use while traveling.   Am I wrong?   Is there a benefit to sharing the cloud usage with a friend.   Add that to the click wheel and I think I'm going to be a fan of the i-Pod Classic far longer than it is in production.  I hope Apple NEVER stops production of this device.   Are you listening Apple?

I also lend books I read and CDs I own and that isn't stealing either.
Yes it is, and it's precisely what the music industry has been fighting about for years.
Interpreting the law to suit yourself does not render law ineffective. Apple's Terms of Use mention this:
    Keep within the Law
No material may be submitted that is intended to promote or commit an illegal act.
Do not submit software or descriptions of processes that break or otherwise 'work around' digital rights management software or hardware. This includes conversations about 'ripping' DVDs or working around FairPlay software used on the iTunes Store.
...which is why my original response was framed as it was. Nothing to do with "attack mode". (You're the one with an "attack style" user name.)
    Fightthegoodfightnow wrote:
Heck, as I understand it, I can legally burn up to five copies of a bought song for noncommercial, personal use....so copying in and of itself is also not illegal.
As I recall, the music industry has acknowledged that making a copy of a CD (that you own, and still have in your possession) is regarded as "Fair Use" - and is therefore tolerated. But until that point was established just a few years ago, then technically, it was illegal to rip a CD into iTunes and onto an iPod. Slightly different to your interpretation. That same music industry (and the musicians) regard the following as unacceptable:
keeping a copy of a CD but disposing of that CD to someone else
lending the CD to friends, so that they can make a copy
making copies and giving them or selling them to someone else
    But what is okay is:
    Home sharing
use of the CD by someone in your family, living under the same roof
At this time, if a couple wish to combine their two iTunes accounts of purchased digital music once they get married, they cannot. Perhaps that's where Home Sharing comes in.

  • The hard drive was recently replaced on my computer and I now only have music purchased from i-tunes store showing in my library. Is there a way of syncing from i-pod classic back to library without re-copying all my cd-collection?

  • TS1538 My I-pod Classic is not showing up in I-tunes, but my I-pod nano does. What do I need to fix this?

When I connect my I-pod classic it automatically says its connected in the Classics window, but does not appear in I-Tunes. I have tried removing the old I tunes program and re-installing the newest version, I have done the toggle the hold button reset trick, and nothing. But when I plug in my nano it sync's the connects and shows up in I-Tunes. So that tells me my cord is good and the USB I am using is good. Any help would be great.. Thanks

    1) Plug in the USB then the 21 pin dock connector to your Classic while iTunes isn't open and if your computer makes a little du du noise it means its installing the iPods Device software and should work once its finished
    2) Try using a different USB port or cord and see if that makes a difference
3)Contact Apple directly by phone and there support line is here http://www.apple.com/contact/

  • I Pod classic not appearing in i tunes

When I plug in my I pod Classic 80g the follwing error message occurs:
There might be a problem with some of the files on this device or disk. This can happen if you remove the device or disk before all the files have been written to it.
    Scan & Fix (recommended)
    Continue without scanning.
I have tried clicking both options, but although a scan appears to start, the dialogue box disappears and nothing happens. I have tried the "5 Rs" but am unable to restore as the device is not shown in I Tunes.
I also have an i phone which I have no issues connecting to the same laptop & itunes, so would appear to be an issue with the i pod?
Any ideas would be appreciated as I am at a loss with this...
    Thanks abs

I have the ipod classic 120gig and am having the same problem. Just started today. I even tried Media Monkey and can't get it to recognize my ipod. Still searching the discussion groups for a fix.

  • I pod classic for I pod touch

I have an I pod classic and it has warranty on it. Is it possible for me to turn the ipod classic in for I pod touch with the warranty I have?

You will get the same model if BB still carries it. If that model is no longer avaliable, you'll get a comparable model, meaning another Classic. Your store may be willing to give you a store credit for the comparable model which you can use to purchase a touch. However, the store is not required to do this.
