I-pod mini problems

I recently cleared out my i-pod, so as to put new songs on it. However, I have been loading songs on to I-Tunes, and they appear on my "Library" list. When I try to transfer them to the I-pod, I get the error message that my I-pod, "...can not be updated because all the playlists no longer exist..."
If any one can help I would appreciate it... I have felt so primitive using a (...yipes!) portable CD player to work the last couple of days, (...you really do get spoiled..)
thanks in advance for the help!

See this for assistance.

  • I-Pod MIni won't eject

I have an I-Pod Mini that I'm connecting to a laptop running Windows XP. I'm connecting through a 4 pin firewire connection. More often than not, I can't get the I-Pod to eject even using the hardware remove function. I get a message that says the I-Pod is being accessed by another program, try again later. I have to go to the Windows Task Manager, select Ipodservice.exe, and end process to get the I-Pod to eject. HP says that this is because I'm using a 4-pin firewire instead of a 6 pin. I'm hoping they're wrong. Are there any other possibilities?

I have fixed an iPod mini with the same problem last night
Very likely the iPod is carrying very low battery level, and does not able to boot and charge by connecting with a computer. You can try to charge it with an iPod ac charger.
I plug the mini on my iPod HiFi, after 1 minute, it turn on. I charge it for 1 hour and do a reset, leave it with iPod HiFi for charging overnight, now it works like a charm.

  • My I-pod mini stays on when my computer turns off.

    Hey there,
I'm sort of new to the whole i-pod scene. I'm not sure if this happens to other people or not. I did a quick search on the forums and didn't see anything like this.
Basically what happens is, I connect my i pod mini to my computer. but if i turn my computer off and leave my ipod mini connected, the i pod stays on (although the back light will turn itself off) and in a short while the battery is completly dead. So I have to charge it again. I know the simple solution is to simply disconnect the i pod mini, but I think it should turn itself off should it not? I always forget to disconnect it and then the battery is drained and i have to wait an hour or so for the thing to charge again.
Is there any patch to fix this?
My psu is an enermax 600w noisetaker
my mobo is the asus a8v deluxe
I only listed these to components as I feel they are the only 2 relevant to my problem (if they have any relevancy at all)
    Thanks for any help guys!

Maybe you missed this part of my post.
"Your computer cannot charge the iPod battery whilst it's switched off."
If you leave it connected to your computer without switching it off, then the battery will drain. A computer that is powered off cannot charge the iPod battery. The exception is on some Macs that can charge the battery whilst in "sleep" mode.
And when you say "it's not doing anything" is the 'do not disconnect' screen still displayed? If it is, the iPod is switched on and the battery is draining.
Before powering off your computer, disconnect the iPod and switch it off.

  • I pod mini 4Gb only holding about 160 songs?

I just got my 4GB I Pod Mini. I downloaded 84 songs and I used up 2.33GB. That doesn't make sense. It says it should hold up to 1000 songs. This is very upsetting my parents spent a lot of $ for only a few hundred songs? Please help!! There is nothing on my I Pod but 84 songs. Thanks for your time

    Paula,
That file size is massive. Follow this post I gave to someone in a similar situation:
Problem: Before I knew anything about bit rates or file sizes, I accidently imported a ton of my music as giant music files like Apple lossless! Now, my iPod has filled up with far fewer songs than Apple said could fit on my iPod! What do I do?!?
    Solutions:
You have a couple options now. What you are going to need to do is convert the songs to a smaller file size like mp3. Under your import preferences (which can be found under iTunes>Preferences>Import Tab if you use an Apple or File>Preferences>Import Tab if you use Windows), change the file type to the type you would like to convert your music too.
Then, in your music library, sort your music by "Kind." If there isn't a "Kind" collumn at the top of your library, right click or control-click the "sorting bar" and select Kind. Click on "Kind" so that the arrow is either pointing up or down. See what file types your songs are. Are there any that are already in the file format that you are about to convert to? If so, don't select those songs. Otherwise, select the other songs (we'll say for discussion purposes that you chose AAC under the Import tab). Right click or control-click the selected songs and choose "Convert to AAC." iTunes will then copy and paste all the songs you selected into the new file format, AAC. Now, you have two options. If you have plenty of memory on your computer, I would choose Option 2.
    Option 1:
You could delete all the music in the large file format from your library and continue syncing the iPod automatically.
Pros: You don't have to change any of the settings you use to sync your iPod. You also save hard drive space.
Cons: You delete the higher quality music. If you ever want to play your iPod through a stereo or high quality speakers, you won't have the high quality music to play. Also, you have to recreate all your iTunes playlists.
    Option 2
Make a Smart playlist (File>Make New Smart playlist). Choose "Kind" in the first drop down menu. Choose "Does Not Contain" from the next drop down menu. Then, type in "Apple Lossless or whatever the large song file type was." What this does is essentially create a seperate library for you; one that contains no large files. Now, depending on how many playlists you have, you may want to replace the songs in the playlists with AAC files, but if you don't have too many playlists with large files, it should not be a problem. Next, connect your iPod. Go to File>Preferences>iPod Tab Choose automatically update selected playlists only. Then select all the playlists, including the smart playlists, you want to sync onto your iPod. This will sync all the files in your library, excluding those in the large format.
Pros: You get the best of both world. You have all the lossless files on your computer, and all the AAC files on your iPod.
Cons: You take up a lot of file space on your computer when you virtually duplicate your library.

  • Can I use a I-pod mini 4GB installation cd for my 6GB I-pod??

I am buying my friend's 6GB i-pod mini, can I use my mom's 4GB i-pod installation cd to install it??

I wouldn't bother using the CD at all.
You're better off downloading the latest version of iTunes and the iPod Updater from Apple's website.
This way you are guaranteed to have the most up-to-date software on your computer and iPod.

You will need to restore your device as New to remove a Restrictions passcode. Go through the normal process to restore your device, but when you see the options to restore as New or from a backup, be sure to choose New.
You can restore from a backup if you have one from BEFORE you set the restrictions passcode.

  • PC (Windows) died - can I transfer tunes from I-pod mini to new PC?

Checked FAQs etc to see if possible to transfer tunes from I-pod mini to new Windows XP PC but can't see anything useful. Old PC crashed and I-tunes went with it, no chance of retrieving Library. Can it be done?
    TIA

    I pod mini   Windows XP

Before you try 3rd party software, try this.
Open iTunes and select edit/preferences/advanced/general. Put a check mark in the box marked "copy files to iTunes music folder when adding to library" and also "keep iTunes music folder organized", then click 'ok'.
Connect the iPod whilst holding down the shift/ctrl keys to prevent any auto sync, and if you see the dialogue window asking if you want to sync to this itunes library, click 'no'.
Then go to file/add folder, open 'my computer', select your iPod and click 'ok'.
The music files should transfer to your iTunes.
If this doesn't work (and it may not because officially it's not supposed to), then the Yamipod program previously mentioned is good, and it's free.

  • Already have I pod mini, just bought nano

I have windows and already have itunes and songs for my i pod mini, but just today I purchased an ipod nano. Do I have to completely get rid of the software for ipod mini and install it again for the nano?
I also have another name that has no itunes or songs on it on my laptop, can i just install itunes on that one and keep the itunes on the other name for the ipod mini?

I tried to eject but it said, the nano cannot eject
because files are being used by another application.
    Ok.

  • New I Pod mini

I just bought an i pod mini and its been charging for 5 hours now and the screen says do not disconnect and the battery still looks like its charging and my computer software window looks like its doing stuff but at the top it says please connect your i pod to see if it needs to be formatted. I don't know what to do it is connected

Resetting will not ruin your battery. However, I'd actually disconnect before resetting. Do not disconnect if it says do not disconnect:

  • Buying the I-pod mini... WHERE CAN I GET IT???

I'm interested in the i-pod mini and getting it for christmas, but the apple online store doesn't seem to sell it anymore. Also, all the shops such as Dixons, PC World, Curry's etc. also don't sell it anymore. Argos and Boots still aparently sell it, but they are out of stock.
Anyone know if Apple still manufacture it anymore, or have they discontinued production of them?

Yes, I really do run Windows 95, though I'm looking to finally switch to a Imac G5 real soon now. After all, it's not what you use, but how you use it.
Perhaps I could get a lucrative gig with a sideshow, down the aisle from the dog-faced boy and the sword swallower. I wonder how much people would pay to see me reboot every hour? I imagine the entertainment value would be quite high.

  • I-pod mini back from repair

Just got it back from second repair - battery faulty this time - click wheel first time - wont' charge , wont even come on!
"How crap is that?" (as my daughter said, its her machine - I have more sense than to own one!!)
Does anybody have any ideas short of getting it an early visit to meet its maker via a large sledgehammer!
    i-pod mini

Does the iPod do anything at all, or is the screen blank, no matter what you do?
Have you tried doing a quick reset? This can be done by holding down the Select and Menu buttons together for about 5 seconds.
See this Apple Support document for full reset instructions.
Also, try doing a reset with and without the iPod plugged into a power source if one method doesn't work.
