I just received this as a present, and have been having nearly constant problems.
Here are the problems:
1. only the factory installed apps work
2. apps that are bought/downloaded only work randomly
3. when apps aren't working, they still appear on my ipod, but when I go to open them they will only open for about one second and then quickly close. the rest of the ipod does not crash, but nothing will get them open.
4. after resetting the ipod from the factory settings i was able to get some of the apps to work, but not all of the bought/downloaded apps would work. when i turned off the ipod and went through the whole
what i have tried:
1. shutting off ipod and turning back on- produces no difference whatsoever
2.calling the apple help people. very nice folks...they talked me through restoring it to the factory settings. this helped maybe 2 apps work. i restored again to the factory settings, and now no apps work. in all i think that i've tried restoring it about 5 times with varying degrees of minimal success
3. updating all related software
4. resetting settings.
none of these have worked. any other ideas?

You might try restoring one more time, but when you get to the point in the process where you're asked to re-load your last backup, don't do that. Instead, set it up as a new iPod because your backup could be corrupted. When set up as a new iPod you'll have to re-do all your preferences, web links, e-mail accounts, etc. but before doing that make sure your apps work after restoring as-new.

Ok so I accidentally jumped in my swimming pool with my Iphone 3GS in my pocket, well it dried out and started working so I tried to restore but so far I've gotten error after error after error.
It started with error 1606, then it went to error 1600, then error 3014, then error 21, and finally error 29.
Seriously whats the deal is there anyway I can fix?
Also it doesnt look like the water tags that are visible have changed color so do you think I could just take it in and say it stopped working and idk why and hopefully get a new one?

Here is my story from two weeks ago. My son did the same thing with his 3GS. Jumped in the pool with the phone in his pocket and didn't realize it. Swam around for 15-20 minutes. I got the phone (dead), put a blow-dryer to it and it restarted but couldn't stop rebooting and couldn't be restored for the same errors. Still had Apple Care extended warranty for another 11 months.
Went to Apple Store and Genius Bar. Told them the truth - son drowned his phone and I tried to dry it out and get it to work. They took it to a back room somewhere and took it apart to look at it. They were gone 15 minutes. They came back and said since we were honest about the phone and that we had Apple Care, they replaced the phone. Wow, was I surprised! Maybe it was because we were honest, maybe because they felt sorry for my son, or maybe because I buy quite a bit of stuff in there. Regardless, honesty still can be the best policy!

Delete your account in 1. "Settings > iCloud" + 2. "Settings > Messages > Send & Receive" + 3. "Settings > FaceTime", but still let them using your account for iTunes and app purchases in "Settings > iTunes & App Stores". Of course, please make sure that they do not know your password to set up your account for iCloud again or purchase anything alone.

I would contact Apple under your warranty. I doubt you received a new iPod since Apple's policy is to give you a refurbished iPod.

Synaptic + Clickpad / One big touch pad with buttons

I just got a new Thinkpad E420s!
The touchpad is just one big touch pad. There are no seperate buttons for the touchpad. However, there are buttons bulit-into the touchpad at the bottom. How can I figure synaptic to support this kind of touchpad. When I click and hold the button (left) and try to drag it gives me a right menu.
I can still use the touchpad when above the buttons as long as I'm not pressing down. I think synaptics is registering a touch on the botton and a touch another part of the touchpad when I try to drag things.
I know this is a crappy description, but hopefully someone can help me.

Well I guess it is called a clickpad and there is a patch for the synaptic driver. Some nice lad created an aur package: https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=38120
Edit: That package helps but I can't hold the mouse button down and drag something using the mouse. The mouse stay stationary when dragging.

The warranty is against manufacturing defect. It is not insurance against accidents. Apple sells Apple Care + (note the +) which does cover accidents, but it does not cover iPods.
Out-of-warranty replacement is the most likely outcome.

Try the remaining items of:
- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.

I have an i pod touch and just recieved an i pad one from a friend. would like to transfer data from touch to pad. i pad is set to factory settings.

You need to backup the Touch to your computer and then Restore from that backup with the iPad. This will only work in the Touch is running 5.1.1 or earlier.

Moving I-pod Touch app from one library to another on the same account

I have an i-pod classic my daughter has an i-pod touch. We each have our own i-tunes library (on the same computer) but we share the same apple account. I sometimes download apps for me to use on her i-pod. I inadvertently downloaded an app to my library. How can I get this app to the i-pod touch or my daughter's library (so I can sync it to the i-pod touch).

Download it to your library the way you download it to hers, or search your computer for items with the ipa extension and drag it into the open iTunes window.

How do I get rid of a previous apple i.d. so that I can have the same one on my I Phone and my I Pod Touch

Previously I had an Apple ID with my I Pod Touch using an old e-mail address with @gmail.com. I just recently got the I Phone 5 and set it up using my new apple ID with an @hotmail.com. How can I change the I Pod Touch to the new e-mail address so that the music from my I Pod Touch can be put on my new I Phone.

iTunes/App store purchases are locked to the account that purchased them. You have to log the iPod into the account that purchased them to sync them to your iPod. To change go to Settings>iTunes and App Stores and sing out and sign back in.
iTunes on the computer also has to be logged into the account.

I-Pod Touch, 3.0 Software, Various Issues

I have a second generation I-Pod Touch. Got my first 12-7-08 but the battery died so I used my warrenty to get a replacement. That worked out fine.
Couple of days ago I paid the $9.95 for the 3.0 Software. Its ok. I don't have any problems with it except it killed 1 of my apps which is currently working on a 3.0 compatible upgrate so thats no big deal.
I've noticed the weaker wifi signal. I read another post on here about setting your router to B and G. I set it to G only. That took care of it, however yes it still is a little slower then before. But not slow enough to keep it from functioning in the way I need it to. Anyways, whoever posted that info, thank you. That helped another problem.
My biggest issue is a grey (black when in the settings function line that suddenly appeared the other day on the bottom half of the screen. I don't know what caused this even though I have done a lot of internet research and other people have had these problems. I did leave it on all day docked with the screen on (would that cause the problem)
The line isn't that noticeable but the fact that its there irritates me.
I called Apple Support and they wanted me to send it in and pay $30 for shipping which is another irritating thing. They also recommended me to an Apple Store. I don't live near one. So now I'm waiting for another FED-EX box.
Is there anyway to get rid of these lines and does anybody know what the cause of it is? I want to avoid having to go thru this replacement process again. Its a pain and the Fed-Ex truck (which requires you to sign for everything) always arrives when I'm asleep.

Thank you for any help I appreciate it. Apple products came highly recomended to me, and I have been largely happy with my i phone, i pod, i pad mini and macbook. I admit I tunes always confused me, it is so hard to copy things back and forth from computer to device or vice versa. Most importantly my partner has given me a set of CD with audio books, legitimate CD's not burned copies, and I wish to play them on my i pod touch. I have donethis before with CD''s, however now I look i see all the songs and audio books from CD's have been removed from my device after synch with my itunes on my macbook??? and I can no longer cooy the new CDs on to there? i try put them in the library, and they show up but they are not in black printing like the other songs, they are a faded grey color. They play on the mac book in itunes, so i know they are THERE, they just wont go on my device??? What am I doing wrong and why did all my other ones turn to grey gaded text and go off my i pod.
Furthermore, i thank anyone who takes time to help me, it isnt your job, it is apple's job, but they want me to pay forty bucks for the priviledge of contacting them for help because my warranty expired !! They obviously did something with a new update of their i tunes, there should be NO DIFFICULTY copying audio books i legally own the CD for onto my i pod, why is it so impossible? People warned me that apple does things like this, makes stupid programs like i tunes, that make nothing but trouble so you have to pay to ask for help, and make it so you have to buy everything from their library not on CD. And if they did why shoudl i pay AGAIN when i paid for the CD already , i paid for the I pod, i legally own them both so why can i not put my own music on there??? It makes me miss my simple MP3 player where i just plugged it to my computer and copy/paste. I am a loyal apple customer, All my devices are apple and until now i have been happy and willing to pay more for a good product. But i tunes is ridiculous! It's already synched things i didnt want synched and deleted things i didn twant deleted, and thats fine i told myself maybe im too dumb and dont get it. buT i've been trying all week and asked other peopel and still cant get this simple task done, and after purchasing their devices and recommending them to my friends, its a slap in the face to say they wont even let me ask a support question without paying forty bucks! A very unhappy customer-- not just that i cant pplay my music and audio books, but that i cant even contact anyone for help without paying after i purcahsed four different products off them in the two years!

The sort fields should generally be empty unless you've putting in custom values to sort solo artists by their surnames. You can apply common changes to thousands of tracks at once, just don't apply the wrong change because there is no undo.
It is a good idea to backup before undertaking large scale changes. See this backup tip for a suggested approach.
