  • IPod with dock connector is not getting charged with car charger and iTrip

My iPod from 2003 with dock connector is not getting charged in my car by using the griffin iTrip with USB car charger. iTrip works, but not the charger. Maybe there´s not enough power output from the car charger? Only 5.0V with 400mA are coming out. iPod needs more? 12V with 1.0A?
Does somebody have information about that problem for me?

Has Apple dropped support for older model iPods?
Nope. Support is still there, even back to the original 1G iPod with the wheel that actually turns. I have a 3G iPod, and it syncs just fine. There have not been any software updates for years, but the old software still works fine with the latest iTunes.
You have to use FireWire, which you seem to be doing.
Try putting it into Disk Mode first, then connect it.

Does the iPod currently play music as it should?
Do you have another docking cable (FireWire) that you can try? FireWire connectors often get worn and they no longer work, although the power connection can continue to work.
Did you try the other FireWire port in the iMac?

  • Possible virus on my iPod 15 GB (with Dock Connector)

Hey everyone ~ I have an iPod 15gb (with dock connector)... yes one of the really old ones when they first came out. I think somehow I have downloaded a virus on it. Do any of you know how I can get rid of it, just short of getting rid of my iPod? When I connect it to my laptop through the Firewire card it crashes my computer. The firewire card is fine as it normally stays in the wireless card port all of the time. Recently I have gotten some new music and have downloaded and it copied it onto my iTunes, but when I go to add it to my iPod it crashes.
    Any help is greatly appreicated.
    concerned user~
    Amber

I highly doubt it has a virus, as viruses must be written for a specific device and to my knowledge there are no viruses written for iPods. On top of that, you would have had to install the virus, furthering proof that this is highly unlikely.
Maybe its logic board became corrupt, so it isn't connecting to iTunes properly, and freezes it.

  • How to use the iTrip with dock connector for iPod 5th gen. video

I bought the new iTrip with dock connector for my iPod video 5th gen. and I followed exactly the instructions but I cannot hear any music on the radio. Has anyone experienced the same problem or the contrary has anyone managed to make it work. Thanks for your help.

  • Can I connect iPod (with dock connector) with just a USB connector?

My mother-in-law gave my daughter her old iPod (with dock connector). It was supposed to come with an adapter that converts the 6-pin firewire cable to a USB cable (you are supposed to plug the 6-pin into the dock connector to charge it, then use the adapter to connect to your computer). We never got The adapter, so I just used USB connector from my own iPod nano to connect the old iPod into the computer. All kinds of error messages. I've now restored the iPod and it seems to be working, but I'm afraid to plug it back in using just the USB cable. Is it possible to connect the USB cable directly from the iPod to the computer without the adapter? Or could the problem be that I have also use my iPod nano on this computer? Thanks for any help you can provide.

A 15GB iPod would have to be a 3rd gen iPod.  It has a touch (not click) wheel with four touch buttons in a row that glow orange during use, correct?  That model needs to be connected using FireWire, because it cannot charge over USB.
If your new Mac has a Thunderbolt port, you can get an adapter for FireWire
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MD464ZM/A/apple-thunderbolt-to-firewire-adapte r
plus an adapter for FireWire 800 to FireWire 400
    http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Other%20World%20Computing/FIR1369AD/
Another way, if you have the square white FireWire power adapter that came with your iPod, is to get a special docking cable that Apple used to sell a long time ago.  It has both USB and FireWire connectors.  Here's a listing for a third-party version on eBay
    http://www.ebay.com/itm/2-Vanco-iPod-Dock-Connector-to-1-USB-1-FireWire-Cable-/2 71074766489?pt=US_MP3_Player_Chargers_Cradles&hash=item3f1d50ae99
(Search on "FireWire USB iPod docking cable" to see other listings.)
What you do with this thing is plug the USB connector to your Mac's USB port, the FireWire connector to the FireWire power adapter, and the dock connector to the iPod.  iPod can then sync over USB while getting power over FireWire.
I would go with that special cable, to avoid using a series of adapters (which adds complexity and unreliability) and tying up the valuable Thunderbolt port for just your iPod.

  • Newbie question - griffin itrip with dock connector

apologies if I've used the wrong forum (it seemed the most appropriate that would let me post a topic)
I've just bought a griffin itrip with dock connector for my 20G Iphoto. When I plug it in there is no LED display on the itrip. Can anyone help?
    Thanks in advance

    Nathan,
Then the review(s) that are currently on the Apple Store website are bogus, which is exactly what I was afraid of. Don't people realize that putting fake reviews of products on the internet does nothing to help people, and in fact, does only harm?
Also have another question. What does everyone use for listening to their iPods in the car? I have an Aiwa receiver that has an auxillary input, but when I use it (in this car, at least), the sound is awful because it is not using the factory-installed powered amp. In my other car, which did not have the amp, the iPod sounded great, but it sounds like crap in the van because it doesn't use the amp. I don't know why and Aiwa was no help, either.
    Any ideas or suggestions?

  • Seeking old iPod (with dock connector) advice

good morning people who are smarter than me. I have an older version which they are calling "iPod (with dock connector)" from 2005. its got a ton of music that i either uploaded or purchased and i would like to get it onto my laptop so i can put the music in my rad new iphone. however, the battery is such that the ipod wont work unless it is connected to a charge. unfortunately for me, it will not charge when hooked up to the computer (Dell - Vista (...i know).
any advice? do they still sell batteries for older ipods? is there some setting that i can change in itunes to make it charge my ancient ipod when hooked up to the computer?
    thanks.

I have a older 40 Gig Gen 2 classic (I guess they called them that) I bought it in 2004, and am on my 3rd battery. I had the same problem you described. I just got another one from laptopsforless.com and it cost me 5 bucks. .01 cent for the battery and 4.99 shipping, I got it in about a week. (I figured It was worth 5 bucks to take a chance on it) It works fine, but still do not get more than a few hours out it fully charged.

  • Will one day "ipod with dock connector" be able to be charged by USB cable?

    Hi,
this question has just popped into my mind
a moment ago. it might be very useful if
one day they'll grant us to be able to do that.
but if this request seemed to be too far
from hardware capability, i'd stop thinking
    about it.
could anyone give me a clue? any support teams?
    Thanks,
p/s hope i'd called my ipod right, it's the
one with four buttons outside the wheel, and
it is not a clickwheel one. "ipod with dock
connector" right? :] thank you again

    Hi Kenekeu
I just wanted to chime in and bump this thread. Although I've posted here several times about this exact problem, with no solution found yet, and no response from Apple. I tried rebooting into windows (via bootcamp) and reformatting my ipod from there. However when I downloaded the older version of the ipod updater, i was told that it was expired and a newer version was available (sigh). So I now have a windows formatted ipod that still won't connect via firewire.
I am still able to mount and transfer songs via USB in mac OSX. Luckily I had one of those dual usb/firewire cables, which plugs into the plug charger via firewire, and into the computer via USB at the same time, so my ipod doesn't lose charge.
Hopefully there'll be a fix soon, because this is really frustrating. I've had this ipod for a couple years, and was always proud that it lasted this long... and now this.

  • Do iPod 40GBs with dock connector support VBR?

I have an iPod 40GB, 3rd generation with dock connector (all white wheel). I also use iTunes for Windows. I have been using import settings of AAC 192 kbps (constant bitrate encoding implied) for many years. Does anyone know if the iPod 40GB 3G will support VBR encoding?
    Thanks,

  • Frozen screens - iPod with dock connector

My ipod freezes up whenever it is disconnected from the computer. The Ok to disconnect doesn't go away. If I perform a reset, the apple logo doesn't disappear. I have restored my ipod many times to no avail. I can synch songs to it, and even play them off the ipod when its attatched to the computer if i use (gasp!) realplayer. I can put it in disk mode and hook it up to the computer, itunes seems to think the ipod is ok. I'm not gonna spend 250 bucks to fix this thing, can anyone help? It seems like it still works, it just hangs up on something.

I am having the same issue and was hoping that I might find a cure or the reason behind this prob. I have an ipod w/ dock connector, it works fine when in use with my inmotion speaker system (with ac, not sure if anything happens on battery), when I bring it to the car and use the ipod hooked up to car stereo using a aux jack on stereo, the ipod will play for 1,2,xx # of songs and then shut down. I do have a power source for the ipod in the car, using the 12v/cig lighter outlet which will powerup the 'pod, but creates a whine that is annoying. At first I thougt it might be the drastic change from use in a warm to cold enviornment?
Anyone with any ideas as to what is causing this??

  • Garmin App not Working with Dock Connector in Ford Flex

I'm having an issue getting the Garmin N American iPhone App to send its turn by turn directions to Sync in my 2010 Ford Flex. I realize that I'm dealing with 3 technologies, Microsoft Sync, iOS in iPhone 4S and Garmin App. So I'm posting to 3 forums looking for help.
The issue is that I can only get the Garmin turn by turn directions to go through the Flex speakers if I use Blue Tooth Audio. If I plug in the iPhone and set Syne to USB, music will play fine by setting the iPhone to Dock Connector. But in the Garmin App, the icon (similar to AirPlay) is not highlighted. I can touch it and have a screen to select either Sync or Dock Connector. Selecting either doesn't cause turn by turn directions to go through the Flex speakers.
Any one run into this and have a solution? All software is up to date.

-Does the VGA-out works for other items like videos? The following says VGA should work for the slideshow.

    - Have you reset your iPod?
Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

  • No Audio with Dock connector?

I've connected my iPhone to a Jam box I have with a dock connector and also to my car adaptor that uses a dock connector. Neither will produce audio. I can pause the music and advance to the next song, but the only sound comes from the iPhone. I thought it was supposed to be a standard iPod connector?

Reading around on the internet and here this is not a rare problem, but many people dont seem to be having it, so our iPhones are either defective, or need some kind of software jumpstart. I've been playing with mine all day and just can't get anything to come out of the line out at all.
There is something about plugging a non-iPhone known device for playback and it is supposed to offer to turn off the phone to stop you hearing the rf noise through the speakers (while I could not hear any audio, I COULD hear the noise of it through my car stereo) so perhaps this mechanism is just confused and not letting anything happen. I dont know, but I think that if nobody has sorted it out by monday I will be making a call to apple support about it. It's definitely not working right, and it's not just with 3rd party hardware, but with it's own dock. So it's not the other stuff that is all broken, it's the phone.

  • Sound check does not work with dock connector

I have the 60GB video iPod. Sound check does not function when using the dock connector, i.e. plugged into my Belkin Autokit or a Kensington SoundDock. However, it functions as intended when used with the headphone jack. I previously used a 4G iPod, and sound check did function with the dock connector using those same products.
I am wondering if this could be:
    a) a compatibility issue between the 5G connector and the older accessories
    b) a firmware issue (I am using the 10-12-05 updater)
    c) a bug in the 5G units
    d) a bad unit (i.e. mine only)
If there is someone out there who has the same setup and could test this, it would help me. I could eliminate (a), (b), and (c) if yours works, and then I would try an exchange of my unit.
Thanks in advance if you can help.

I have a similar problem. I've never really used sound check but I recenty installed a Harman/Kardon Drive+Play iPod interface. The sound quality using the dock connection is not great. It sound somewhat distorted. It sounds much better through the headphone port. i always thought the dock connector would provide a cleaner signal. I will borrow a click wheel 4G iPod to see if the problem is with the interface or my video iPod.

  • Problem with Dock Connector, Ipod Charges but doesn't play sounds

We have two Ipod Touch 3rd generation at home. We recently bought a stereo with a dock to play music from our iTouch.
One of the Ipods works just fine with it, but the other will only charge and not play music. When I try to see my output options I can only select Ipoud Touch or Apple TV. When I am playing music with the working Ipod I can choose between Dock Connector and Apple TV.
I have already tried hard reset but nothing has changed.
Any suggestions? I would REALLy appreciate your help.
    Thanks!

    - Do they both have the same iOS?  The latest is 5.1?
    - Look at the dock connectors for both units and compare them.,  Loof for bent, missing or corroded contacts and other abnormalities.
    - Tey the following with the non-working one:
    - Reset. Nothing is lost
Reset iPod touch:  Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore from backup
    -Restore to factory defaults/new iPod.
