Apple cannot help you locate the original owner. If you have no way to contact him/her, and you purchased directly from the seller rather than through a site that offers buyer protection, then the iPad is useless to you and you have wasted your money. The iPad is quite probably stolen and you should turn it in to the police.
This is why it's very risky and usually unwise to purchase out of a car boot from someone you don't know.

1. Hold the Sleep and Home button down (together)
2. For about 10 seconds
3. Until you see the Apple logo (very important)
4. Ignore the red slider

This is an ipad 2 it hasn't been updated, the thing is I restored it to the orginal setting because it was acting up, instead of 59.9 GB it gave me the memory capacity of 58.9 that has been already been use. Take it back. The activation lock is an anti-theft measure and there is no way to bypass it. The seller should have wiped it clean for you and if they can't then it's a very real possibility that the device wasn't theirs to sell in the first place.

I don't want to be paying any extra over and above what I have already paid so my question is, is there any way to get the iPad carrier unlocked via apple or orange. Some iPads which were subsidized by the carriers are locked to the carrier, and in that case only the carrier can authorize an unlock. You'll need to talk to Orange, and pay their fee if necessary. They may well only unlock for the original purchaser, in which case you'll need to contact the person from whom you purchased the iPad. Apple can do nothing directly in the matter, since they can only issue the unlock when the carrier provides authorization.

I have bought an Iphone 4 from ebay. It was listed as brand new and on o2. The phone has never been activated but it won't take an o2 sim, in fact I've tried the majority of the UK networks and it just keeps saying sim not supported please insert the original sim. The seller is very unhelpful and I'm a bit lost now. Can anyone help? I'm an iphone novice, am I doing something wrong?

The only option here is to contract 02 and ask them why the phone won't work. If the phone is supposedly locked to 02, then they are the only ones who can help you. Try contacting them to see.
If they can't help you, then I'm afraid that you have been had on ebay and it is never a good idea to purchase iPhones and anything of an expensive nature there - you can never trust what people say.
You need to contact the seller and either ask for the original sim card for the phone and if the phone is actually locked to 02 or you just tell them that you are returning the phone for a full refund.
If the seller is not being helpful, then you can file a dispute with ebay and ebay will then sort it out for you and you should be able to return the phone for a full refund.
Bottom line: Don't buy an iPhone from ebay and if you want an iPhone on 02, go to an 02 store and buy one - they have plenty in stock - my local branch has iPhone 5's in stock and they still have the iPhone 4's if you want one.
