I purchased an hp external cd drive, how can i boot from it? setup does not show it being connected
When i connect the external drive it is being connect to a usb port. When i go into the setup of the laptop it does not show an external drive being connected to the usb port. My cd drive that came with the laptop does work, i tried it in my laptop, but on my daughters machine the cd drive is not being shown on the computer or in Device manager. I upgrade out laptops from windows vista 32 to windows 7. The drive was working and one day my daughter went to go burn a cd and thats when we found out it is not showing on the computer. Her p/n is FE653UA#ABA - dv6910US. I tried everything to get the drive to show up on the computer but had no luck, that is why i purchased an external drive. The drive i purchased is an HP 8x external dlim muliformat dvd/cd writer.
I now need to figure out how I can boot from this external drive, can anyone help me?

Have you checked in the Device Manager to asee if all devices have drivers loaded?
Have you tried the Microsoft Fixit for DVD/CD drives?

It may be Time Machine, but Time Machine doesn't store backups in .zip folders. Open Finder and select your backup external disk in the Finder sidebar, under "Devices". If you are using Time Machine, you should see a folder called "Backups.backupdb".
If you are using Time Machine and you want to restore a full Time Machine backup, there are different methods depending on the Mac OS X version you are using. Open > About this Mac, see Version and tell me what version you are using -
OS is Mountain Lion, upgraded no problems, used an external Hard drive for my time machine, now my iPhoto will not show any of my photo's or ay new ones I import! Help please!!
Do you get this window when you hold down the Command+Option keys and launch iPhoto?
If not then you're not holding down both keys long enough.

I opened my account on the MacAir and have the new Mountain Lion showing i purchased. When I open my account on my other two machines it does not show. Any suggestions on why or how to fix?

i have in the meantim had to open www.icloud. then from there import the file that i am working on and then check on ipad if it uploaded/ yes it did.
but what a waste of time as it doesn not save any changes done automatically back in the cloud....
i am now downloading the new LION and hope that it will fix the problem
i cant find any other way. I was lead to believe that you wrote, it saved automatically, on to the cloud, you then opened anohter device in anotother country even, and the new file was there, waiting, in its latest version.......
and the same magic was supposed to happen in reverse.

I have an apple iphone 4 that I want to download audio books from my library onto. I cannot figure out how to do that. The iphone does not show up on my mac laptop as a connected device. Does this kind of download have to run through itunes? Thanks
Yes it is done through iTunes. The iPhone will never show up in Finder as a device. I think a have a virus in my notebook Pavilion 15 and want to restore my C partition with a system back up. I made this system back up a month ago and it is stored on a extern hard disc. I have also made a recovery dvd. How can I boot my notebook from my dvd to start the procedure? I have 2 partions on my notebook. The second partition contains My Documents.

TinekeIt is unlikely that the back-up of the system recovery, that you have stored on an external drive, will be useful in recovering your computer. Please see HP PCs - Performing an HP System Recovery (Windows 8), for instructions on using the HP Recovery Disc set your created earlier. Typically, the disc set is 4 to 6 DVDs.

Hold down the mouse button while restarting. This should eject any disc in the drive. -
How can two networks from the same router be showing up at once?
Very confused here. I hooked up the linksys wrt54g and obviously it showed up as an available network. It is hard wired into one computer.
I then (on an unwired computer) went into the router to rename the network and reset the password.
Now, when I check for available networks, both are present (linksys and the renamed one)? How can this be?
Also, the linksys network has five bars connectivity and the new one I renamed only has two. How is that possible?
Thanks1. Always configure your router from a wired connection. Never through a wireless connection. The wired connection is the only reliable way to be sure your configure your router and not a different one.
2. Vista and Windows 7 allow you to name a wireless connection different then the "SSID" used on the router. It also allows you to set up two wireless connections using the same SSID. Clean up the list of preferred networks on your computer. That should take care of this. -
My first problem is that I need to get all of my music files in one folder, they are scattered throughout my computer and external hard drive and I am trying to get them all together. Afterwards I want to send this music to my microsd hard in my Samsung Galaxy s4, is there a way to proceed through this? Or at least one part of it?
Consolidate your iTunes Library
As for the other part of the question, iTunes syncs with Apple devices.
Simply copy the media desired from the computer to the microSD card. This has nothing to do with iTunes. -
How can I boot from an external drive?
I am unsuccessful trying to have the external backup drive to boot the Powerbook. I tried first a USB Lacie Mobile Disk, then thinking USB was the problem I got a FireWire Little Disk of the same brand. None will boot even if the disk appears in the startup disk control panel. When I boot with option key, the choice is no longer there. Maybe they require a power supply other than the USB power lead? Any experience?
USB drives are not bootable for PowerBooks. FireWire drive usually needs to be used with the power supply since it consumes more power than the USB
Right! So there is no way to boot from an external without a power source.
