I recently changed my MacBook Pro password, and now I don't remember it.  Is there anyway to gain access to my mac without reinstalling or deleting everything that's on it?  I don't have the disk that came with it either.

Hi.  I recently changed my MacBook Pro password, and now I don't recall what it is.  My hope is that I can somehow gain access without deleting everything currently on it.  I do not have the MAC disk that it came with.  Is there something I can do myself?  Should I take it to the MAC store?  Thanks in advance for your help.

It helps with this kind of question to state which system version you are using on the computer as the answer will vary.

  • I changed my apple ID password and now facetime cannot verify my e-mail address.  I have tried changing my password back but still recieve the same pop up window telling me that the email could not be verified and to check my network but have wifi working

Please help.  I changed my apple id password and now cannot use facetime and my icloud continues to prompt me for my password and I continue to give it but, I repeatedly am prompted for the password unless I cancel the icloud.  I have tried changing my password back to the password I had before and this did not work.  I have tried to use another e-mail address for facetime and had verified that e-mail address and this did not work.  I do not know how to fix this problem.  I have thought about changing my apple id but am not sure how I would be able to carry over the same credit card number to the new apple ID.  I loved my Mac book Pro because I could facetime my boyfriend while I am working away and now I cannot.  I am starting to hate Mac.

The idea to jumpstart by change was not the smartest one, but gives you an opportunity to use that "temporary" account as permanent. You do not have a choice cause obviously despite you thinking that old account is no more -it does exist on Apple servers. And if you are unwilling to share your [email protected] with friend, just create one extra [email protected] for your friend. One suggestion - do not use gmail.

Oh, by all means. Uninstall it using its uninstaller if you have one. Do not install any anti-malware software as it's unneeded with OS X Lion or Mountain Lion.
    Uninstalling Software: The Basics
Most OS X applications are completely self-contained "packages" that can be uninstalled by simply dragging the application to the Trash.  Applications may create preference files that are stored in the /Home/Library/Preferences/ folder.  Although they do nothing once you delete the associated application, they do take up some disk space.  If you want you can look for them in the above location and delete them, too.
Some applications may install an uninstaller program that can be used to remove the application.  In some cases the uninstaller may be part of the application's installer, and is invoked by clicking on a Customize button that will appear during the install process.
Some applications may install components in the /Home/Library/Applications Support/ folder.  You can also check there to see if the application has created a folder.  You can also delete the folder that's in the Applications Support folder.  Again, they don't do anything but take up disk space once the application is trashed.
Some applications may install a startupitem or a Log In item.  Startupitems are usually installed in the /Library/StartupItems/ folder and less often in the /Home/Library/StartupItems/ folder.  Log In Items are set in the Accounts preferences.  Open System Preferences, click on the Accounts icon, then click on the LogIn Items tab.  Locate the item in the list for the application you want to remove and click on the "-" button to delete it from the list.
Some software use startup daemons or agents that are a new feature of the OS.  Look for them in /Library/LaunchAgents/ and /Library/LaunchDaemons/ or in /Home/Library/LaunchAgents/.
If an application installs any other files the best way to track them down is to do a Finder search using the application name or the developer name as the search term.  Unfortunately Spotlight will not look in certain folders by default.  You can modify Spotlight's behavior or use a third-party search utility, EasyFind, instead.
Some applications install a receipt in the /Library/Receipts/ folder.  Usually with the same name as the program or the developer.  The item generally has a ".pkg" extension.  Be sure you also delete this item as some programs use it to determine if it's already installed.
There are many utilities that can uninstall applications.  Here is a selection:
        1. AppZapper 2.0.1
        2. AppDelete 3.2.6
        3. Automaton 1.50
        4. Hazel
        5. AppCleaner 2.1.0
        6. CleanApp
        7. iTrash 1.8.2
        8. Amnesia
        9. Uninstaller 1.15.1
      10. Spring Cleaning 11.0.1

  • I have recently changed my bt home hub and now my airport express won't connect to it? Any suggestions?

I have recently changed my bt home hub and now my airport express won't connect to it? Any suggestions?

Anytime you change out a modem or modem router like the HomeHub, the AirPort Express needs to be reset back to factory default settings and then set up again.
The reason for this is that the Express is retaining some or all of the settings to connect to your "old" modem or hub, so it will not work correctly with a new device unless you start over again from factory default settings on the Express.
Power up the Express for a few minutes
Hold in the reset button on the side of the Exprsss for 8-10 seconds, then release and allow a full minute for the Express to restart to a slow, blinking amber light
Now, set up the Express again, like you did originally with the "old" modem or hub that you had previously.

My MB Pro is no longer syncing my iPad in iTunes. It did in the beginning, however I had to change my MB Pro password. Now I get a permissions error message trying to sync: "error storing your authorization information on this computer." Can you help?

First I would just try deleting the SCInfo folder, restart your computer, open itunes and see if you are still getting the error, at that point if you are it is a permissions error with the computer specificaly and not in itunes.

    Hello Mr_Golshan,
Reset your User Account Password for Mountain Lion with the Help of Recovery HD, Go through the steps below.
    > Restart the Mac and hold down Command-R to boot into Mountain Lion’s Recovery HD partition.
    > From the menu choose Utilities > Terminal, and in Terminal type resetpassword and press Return.
    > A Reset Password window appears so select your Macintosh HD and below that from the drop down menu select your user account for which you want to Reset the Password and then below that Enter your New Password, Confirm New Password and Password Hint and then Click on Save.
    > Click on the Apple Logo from the Menu bar and Restart your Mac.
    > Now at the Login Select your User Account and Enter your New Password
    > When you get a pop up for Keychain Access, select Create New Keychain and Continue.

  • I changed my Apple ID password and now I can't log into iCloud

I changed my Apple ID password and now I can't log into iCloud.  In addition I am unable to sign out or exit the iCloud System Preference page and have to force a shut down using the power off button to get rid of it.  Does anyone know how to fix this? Thanks

If the Preference Pane hangs, hit comand-option-escape and force quit System Preferences to avoid having to reboot.
In order to sign out you need the original password if you have set up 'Find My ....'. However you can't now change the password back to the original one (as you are not allowed to re-use a password). In this situation only Support can help you.
To contact  iCloud Support: if you currently happen to have AppleCare, either because you recently bought Apple hardware or have paid to extend the inititial period, you can contact them here:
    http://www.apple.com/support/icloud/contact/
You will need the serial number of the covered hardware.
If you are not covered by AppleCare, then - in common with other free email services - there is no free support and you may be asked to pay a fee.

I recently changed my username n password. Now that I'm trying to update my apps, it still default at my old username. How can I change it to new username?

Sorry, you can't. Apps are forever tied to the Apple ID used to originally obtain them. They cannot be updated using any other Apple ID, nor can they be transferred to another Apple ID. You will have to update them using the ID used to originally obtain them.

  • Just changed my apple id password  and now I cant log into facetime

I just changed my apple id password  and now I can't log into facetime, it doesnt accept my new password.

    Hey there caribbeanbeach,
It sounds like you are not able to log into FaceTime after changing your Apple ID password. I would use these troubleshooting steps from the following article to help you troubleshoot the issue:
    FaceTime for Mac: Troubleshooting FaceTime
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts4185
    Activating FaceTime for Mac
Use your Apple ID to register and use FaceTime. FaceTime registration validates your Apple ID and email address for use with FaceTime.
If you are unable to activate FaceTime, try the following:
Verify that you are using a valid Apple ID at appleid.apple.com. You can also create an Apple ID or reset your password from this website.
Check that your email address is verified in FaceTime > Preferences. If FaceTime > Preferences shows your email status as "verifying," follow the instructions in the verification email that was sent to complete the process.
Toggle FaceTime off and on in FaceTime > Preferences.
If still unable to Sign In follow the instructions in FaceTime, Game Center, Messages on OS X: Troubleshooting Sign in
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,
    Sterling

My MacBook Pro fell and now when I turn it on its stuck at the apple logo screen with a loading circle underneath it. What can I do to get passed this?

Sounds like something internal was damaged in the fall, probably the disk drive. Take to Apple and ask them to fix it.

  • I recently changed my apple id password and I was prompted to enter the new password onto icloud on my mac. The problem is whenever i try to press enter or forgot password or sign out or pretty much anything, it just makes a sound.

It won't let me do anything, I can even try to minimize the window. I tried shutting down my computer and it still pops up. Also, because of this, I can't access anything else in my system preferences. Help!

Hello, I realize this solution is long overdue however I'm posting my solution to help others.  I JUST had the exact same problem.  I recently changed my apple ID password.  Everything accepted the new password except my MAC.  When I booted up my Macbook pro, a message would pop up saying "cannot Back my MAC."  Something like that.  Then I would be prompted, within system preferences, to enter my password.  Both my new and old passwords wouldn't work.  I couldn't sign out, seek help, click on "forget" and every time I tried something, it would make the "noise" and just shake the message box.
After several failed attempts to fix based on forum suggestions and google research, I stumbled upon a solution myself.  I went into iCal, Address Book, and Mail and manually deleted iCloud from each of these.  Then I added iCloud back to each of them, using my new password, and the verification worked!!  I rebooted my MAC and the same message came up "cannot Back my MAC."  I was once again prompted to enter my apple ID password and the new password was accepted!!  I rebooted one more time to be sure.  Everything was synced.
I hope this helps someone else out there.  Very frustrating when something so simple, like a password change, can wreak so much havoc!!!

  • When I look at my Ipod on Itunes on my laptop it is showing that I have a large amount of storage space taken up with Apps. (more than my music). In fact I only have the Apps which came with the ipod touch! How do I get my storage back?

I have an ipod touch 64GB.  I have 3,146 songs, 3 videos, 106 photos and 1 app. The capacity of my ipod is 58 GB (I guess the remainder is the OS), It says I have 7.6GB remaining. When I look at my ipod on Itunes on my laptop the bar at the bottom shows a huge amount of storage space is taken up by Apps.  I don't have any apps apart from the ones which came with the ipod touch which I cannot erase and wouldnt really want to.  I am baffled why it says so much storage has been taken up by Apps! Please help me!!!

Connect the iPod to your computer and look at the storage used by the various categories as shown in the colored bargarph in iTunes.
    Come back with the results.
An "other" larger than about 1 1/2 GB usually indicates that the "other" includes corrupted files.  Usually restoring from backup eliminated the corrupted files. However, sometimes restoring to factory settings/new iPod is required.
    To restore from backup see:
    iOS: How to back up
To restore to factory settings/new iPod see:
