I recently had to get a new computer. It required me going from windows xp to 7 I am trying to put it one the new computer but I get following message  Windows installer could not be accessed could be in safe mode. How do I get around it? need it to charge my ipod on my computer.

I have used PCs for years, and still do at work.  But, last year my wife bought me a 15" MBP with the anti-glare screen (I was getting ready to buy for myself).  It took me all of 1 week to completely get used to the UI for OS-X, and now I really prefer it over the Win7 UI.  I have no experience with Win8.  Here are my thoughts:
1) You can get a good computer using either a Win8 machine or a Mac.
2) You will pay less for an equivalent PC.  But not as much less as some would have you believe.  You need to take into account the all aluminum body of the Mac (vs most PCs being plastic) and the size of the display.  And, don't forget that there is a lot of bundled SW on the Mac that you will actually find useful and would have to purchase for the PC.
3) You can probably do everything you need on the PC platform with the right SW (you probably already know this since you are using one already).
That said, I think some things are easier on the Mac.  For example, GarageBand is a standard part of the Mac SW installation.  I got up and running recording directly from my bass into a track with a song imported from iTunes on another track in a snap.  I only had to purchase a Jam adapter ($99) for the bass so I could come in over USB instead of using the audio in port (which did work, by the way).  You can do the same on a PC, but you have to purchase the SW from somewhere.  And, it probably isn't cheap.
I use VMware Fusion to run those Win programs I already owned because it was much less expensive to buy Fusion than to replace them.
I would not return to a PC for my own use, given a choice.  But, I would be very careful about getting my wife a Mac without careful thought as she is not as tolerant of learning new things as I am.
So, there you go.

Please see this article: [[Firefox is stuck in Safe Mode]]
I hope that helps. Post back if not.

EDIT: Just noticed that you already rebooted. You say that you "put computer in safe mode". Is firefox in safe mode or your whole computer?
If '''Firefox''' is stuck in safe mode despite reboot
    * Check that the shift keys on your keyboard are not stuck down.
    * Uninstall firefox and install again (your settings will not be lost as they are stored in your profile folder).
Let me know if neither of those works.

  • A song will not play. I have received message: could not be used because the original file could not be found. Will appreciate help on how to retrieve it.

    A song will not play.
I have received message: could not be used because the original file could not be found.
Will appreciate help on how to retrieve it.

You will need to go into your Files and locate the song.  By default, iTunes saves songs in the iTunes Media Folder which can be found in the following locations:
    Mac OS X: /Users/username/Music
    Windows XP: \Documents and Settings\username\My Documents\My Music\
    Windows Vista: \Users\username\Music\iTunes
    Windows 7 and Windows 8: \Users\username\My Music\iTunes
If you locate your song file, when you try to play it in iTunes, you will be given an option to locate.  Navigate to the file in the pop up window and iTunes will re-path the file location.
Most people encounter this issue when moving to a new computer or if you have your music saved on an external drive or folder that you have since moved or removed.  The imperative part is finding the song so you can re-map it.

    Hey there Frank0619,
If you have not been able to install iTunes because the Windows Installer service is not available, I would recommend the troubleshooting in the following troubleshooting to help.
    Issues installing iTunes for Windows
    These in particular:
Make sure you have an administrator account.
To install iTunes, you'll need to log in to your computer with an administrator password. If you're not sure if you have an administrator account, read Windows 7: How do I log on as an administrator? You could also refer to your computer's help system, contact your IT department, or visit support.microsoft.com for assistance.
Install the latest Microsoft Windows updates.
To download the latest updates, visit the Microsoft Windows Update website. iTunes for Windows requires Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8 with the latest Service Pack installed. If you can’t install the updates, refer to your computer's help system, contact your IT department, or visit support.microsoft.com for assistance.
Download the latest version of iTunes.
The latest version of iTunes can be downloaded at http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/.
    Disable conflicting software.
Some Windows background processes can cause issues for other programs and processes. These conflicts can prevent applications, such as iTunes, from installing. Disable conflicting processes by starting your computer using MSConfig:
Using Msconfig to troubleshoot conflicts in Windows XP
Using Msconfig to troubleshoot conflicts in Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8
Some security software made by other companies can't be disabled using MSConfig. If you've installed security software and you're having issues installing iTunes or QuickTime for Windows, you might need to disable or uninstall security software to resolve installation issues.
    Restart your computer.
    Install iTunes.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    All the best,

  • I can't Start, Uninstall or Install new iTunes. I'm getting the same error message: Window Installer Service could not be accessed.  No other programs have similar problem. Any suggestion what can be done?

I can't Start, Uninstall of Install new iTunes. I'm getting the same error message: "Window Installer Service could not be accessed". No other programs having similar problem. Any suggestions how to fix it?

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
The further information area has direct links to the current and recent builds in case you have problems downloading, need to revert to an older version or want to try the iTunes for Windows (64-bit - for older video cards) (not for XP) release as a workaround for installation or performance issues, or compatibility with QuickTime or third party software.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there are also links to backup and recovery advice should it be needed.

You can go through the Microsoft Support kb as there can be some issue with the Windows Installer Service settings or registry keys. Go through the below Link and check the Resolution tab in it. But be careful when working with system Registries.

Is that a 64-bit system? If so, although you're getting this on Windows 7 rather than Vista, the following document might be worth a try:

    Hi Abdallah,
According to your description, could you please post the summary and detail logs for further analysis? By default, the logs can be found in: C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\100\Setup Bootstrap\Log.
Usually, the error occurs when the Windows Installer Service is not running or the Windows Installer registry settings are corrupted.  I recommend you reset the Windows Installer Service settings in the registry and restart the Windows Installer Service,
then reinstall SQL Server 2008 R2. For more details, please review this similar
    article.

  • Windows Installer Service could not be Accessed

Last week, I upgraded to the newest 64-bit version of iTunes, as well as Quicktime for windows. After the install, I get an error that says "Apple Application support is not found." I tried to uninstall iTunes, but I get an error message that says "The Windows Installer Service could not be accessed." The same message also appears when I try to do a new install, instead of uninstalling first.
I contacted Microsoft (and HP) because it stated it was a Windows Installer error. However, they both redirected me to Apple because it was only affecting the iTunes software.
Any assistance, or direction as to were to go, would be appreciated. Thank you.

Interesting ... It's probably an issue with the Windows Installer Service, but they can be a bit trickier to deal with on a 64-bit OS than on a 32-bit OS.
Try the steps Aaron Stebner describes in the following Weblog entry:
[Repairing the Windows Installer service on a 64-bit OS|http://blogs.msdn.com/astebner/archive/2006/07/20/673408.aspx]

My best guess is that you have an unwelcome visitor. Download the following free scanner, update its virus signatures, and then do a full scan.
       Malwarebytes Anti-Malware
..the Microsoft Fix it Center. The message is,

  • Cannot install itunes on Windows 7 Windows Service Installer could not be accessed

I am having trouble installing itunes on Windows 7.  I keep getting a message that says that Windows Installer Service could not be accessed.  This is driving me crazy.  Any help would be appreciated.

I managed to get iTunes downloaded, but now it won't install because it says a newer version of Quicktime is installed, and iTunes cannot proceed until that is uninstalled.
We're still making progress. That's damaged QuickTime installation configuration information (which also seems to be associated with some-though-not-all reports of your initial error).
Unfortunately, this sort of trouble has gotten more complicated to deal with ever since Microsoft pulled the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from their Download Center on June 25. First we have to find a copy of the utility.
Let's try Googling. (Best not to use Bing, I think.) Look for a working download site for at least version 3.0 of the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. After downloading the utility installer file (msicuu2.exe), scan the file for malware, just in case. (I use the free version of Malwarebytes AntiMalware to do single-file scans for that.)
If the file is clean, to install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you've downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any QuickTime entries and click "Remove".
Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try installing iTunes again. Does the install go through properly now?
(If you do find a clean download site for the correct version of CleanUp, please don't tell me where it is. Without wishing to sound paranoid (although I grant it does sound paranoid), there is a non-zero chance that posting links to download locations for the utility here at Discussions leads to that download location being shut down.)

  • SOLUTION to THE WINDOWS INSTALLER SERVICE COULD NOT BE ACCESSED...Vista x64

I spent the better part of a month looking for the solution to this. My mom recently purchased a new computer that came with Vista Home Premium (64bit) preinstalled. Although we were able to install all of her other programs that were 32 bit, when we downloaded the 64bit Itunes from the website we received the error:
"The Windows Installer service could not be accessed, This can occur if you are running Windows in Safe Mode, or if the Windows installer is not correctly installed. Contact your support personnel for assistance."
I tried everything from unregistering and then re-registering the msiexec files in both the system32 folder and the sysWOW64 folder. I tried editing the registry and changing the windows installer imagepath to the SysWOW64 folder. I tried running it with UAC on and then off and from the true Administrator account, etc....nothing solved the issue.
Finally, the other day I was searching the problem out and came upon this blog:
    http://blog.thinksharp.nl/
    I changed the key
    HKEYLOCALMACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\MSIServer\WOW64
    from a 1 to a 0.
I then stopped and restarted the Windows Installer Service by using services.msc.
After this approach, Itunes and quicktime finally installed without a hitch and my mom is finally able to use her Ipod again.
Just wanted to post this as it might help others that are having the same problem. There are many postings elsewhere on the net about this issue with just as many solutions...none of which worked for me except this one.
    Thanks!

Wow! Thank you so much for posting this. I have been crazily hunting for a fix to this using Google search. Guess I should have visited this forum instead as that would have save me some time!
