I rented a movie in iTunes

Okay so, I rented a movie with iTunes and I can watch the first 35 minutes and then I can't watch any more of it. Please help! Thanks a lot

You've tried rebooting the computer or iOS device that you rented it on - and if it was on your iOS device then you've also tried closing its Videos app via its taskbar and seeing if the film plays when you re-open it ?
Closing an app : iOS: Force an app to close
If it still doesn't play then try the 'report a problem' link to contact iTunes Support (rentals are a one-time only download) : http://reportaproblem.apple.com
If the 'report a problem' link doesn't work then you can try contacting iTunes Support via this page : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/ contact/ - click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page, then Purchases, Billing & Redemption

  • I have rented a movie in ITunes, however it does not show up in the movies on my ATV, but purchased movies do. What's up?

I have rented a movie through ITUNES, but it does not show up on my ATV movies menu as they have in the past in a category called rentals.  In fact that category isn't shown.  My purchased movies are showing up.  What's up?

A number of people have reported similar issues recently, many appear to have found a discrepancy of some kind in their account settings and making changes to these settings or simply resetting them has resolved the matter.
Check your account details are correct, check that you are using the correct details for Location, Region and Time Zone. You may want to change these settings and then change them back to see if that helps.
You might also try logging out of and then back into your iTunes account (Settings > iTunes Store > Apple ID’s > Sign Out) and restarting your router. (Some have reported that after doing this, they need to check for rentals even though it may report that there aren’t any, after which rentals once again appear in the ‘movies’ feature)
Rentals should appear under their own heading in the ‘Movies’ feature, you might also check at Settings > iTunes Store > Check For Rentals.

  • I rented a movie from iTunes and it is on my IPad.  I wanted to watch it on AppleTV and there is no airplay icon showing up on the movie

I rented a movie from ITunes and it is on my IPad.  I wanted to watch it on Apple TV however there is no airplay ap showing up.  What should I do

That won't be possible. You can only view a rental on the device used to do so, unless it is done via computer (in which case you can stream using home sharing)

  • Why can't I rent a movie from iTunes on my Macbook Pro?

I am trying to rent a movie from iTunes on my Macbook Pro but when I click on the gray rent movie button it does NOTHING, like I never clicked on it.  I am signed in, I authorized the computer and have rented movies in the past.   I do have OS X 10.5.8 and iTunes 10.6.3(25) because I haven't purchased new software to upgrade something that works just fine, until now. I'm not sure if the software is the problem because I have rented movies in the past 6 months. I have just tried to purchase other movies, and even songs, and it doesn't do anything when I click the gray price to purchase the song.  Please help.

Same exact thing just started happening to me. Same issues as you. I have tried restarting itunes and reinstalling many times with no luck at all.

  • I rented a movie via Itunes on  my PC but half-way through the download recieved a "An unknown error has occured (-50)" notification. This is not my first rental, and I have verified my network and all connections to be good. Will I still be charged?

I rented a movie via Itunes on  my PC but half-way through the download recieved a "An unknown error has occured (-50)" notification. This is not my first rental, and I have verified my network and all connections to be good. I have rebooted Itunes and resumed the download of the movie only to receive the same error code. Has the movie file been corrupted? Can I recover the rental even though the time has elapsed? Will I be charged?

Did you figure this out?  I haven't rented a movie in this new iTunes yet and saw one tonight I wanted to rent.  Same fricken thing is happening to me.  I hate this new iTunes, and I really hate that there are problems like this....why the heck do they have to fix something that isn't broken and break it?  This just really stinks.

  • HT201667 I rented a movie through itunes on my ipad and wanted to watch it with friends on a digital projector, but it wouldn't allow me to do it.  Is there any way around this?

I  rented a movie through itunes on my ipad and wanted to watch it with friends on a digital projector, but it wouldn't allow me to do it.  Is there any way around this?

The issue was that a dialogue box came up which said that I couldn't play this movie on another device.  I tried playing the same movie on an Tv with an HDMI connection attached to an adapter to the IPad and that worked.  I wonder if the problem is that the digital projector has a VGA connection.

Why is it that I rented a movie from iTunes on my computer but it is not showing in my Apple TV to view

    Hello Amy,
You can but the method varies depending on the Apple TV that you have.
From the article How to rent a movie from the iTunes Store on your computer found here http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1390:
To rent movies from the iTunes Store on your computer
In iTunes on your computer, click iTunes Store.
In the iTunes Store, find a movie you want to rent.
Click Rent. Your rental should begin to download immediately.
Once the rental is downloaded, you can watch it on your computer or transfer the rental to a supported iPod, iPhone, iPad, or Apple TV (1st generation):
Connect the device and select it in iTunes.
    Click the Movies button.
Select the movie, and then click Move.
After all movies have been moved, click Apply in the lower-right corner of iTunes.
You must be connected to the Internet to transfer a rented movie.
If you have Apple TV 2nd gen. or later you can use Airplay to play it on your tv through the Apple TV.
Here is the article to help get that setup and going.

  • HT1657 I rented a movie on Itunes last night and I watched half of it before falling asleep. Today I tried to open the movie and watch the last half but I cannot find it. It has been less than 24 hours since I rented it. Where can I find the movie?

I rented a movie on Itunes last night and I watched half of it before falling asleep. Today I tried to open the movie and watch the last half but I cannot find it. It has been less than 24 hours since I rented it. Where can I find the movie?

I found my answer in another Thread and it worked... so for anyone who needs it, here it is:
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/19134562#19134562
Had the same problem and spoke with Apple Support. They had me reset the System Management Controller:
Shut down the computer. With the computer off, on the left hand side of the keyboard press shift+control+option along with the power button simultaneously and release. Wait 5-10 seconds and restart the computer.
This solved my problem and I was immediately able to purchase, download, and play an HD movie from iTunes w/o any error message.

  • I rented a movie from iTunes on my apple tv, can I watch this rental on another apple tv that's on the same network and under the same account?

I would like to rent a movie from iTunes on one of my apple tv's and would like to know if I can watch that movie rental on another apple tv on the same network. I used to rent movies on my Mac and was able to watch on different apple tv through home-sharing.

    Hey hskcheng,
Movies rented on an Apple TV can not be transferred to a different device. See this article for reference -

  • Can i use an iTunes Gift Card to rent a movie from iTunes on my iPad? And if so, how?

Can i use an iTunes Gift Card to rent a movie from iTunes on my iPad? And if so, how?

Why can't I use an iTunes gift card in Canada to purchase apps for my iTouch?
Inquiries to the iTunes Store have yielded only the following explanation:
"Due to tax laws and commerce restrictions for software in Canada, customers residing in Canada may only purchase games and applications using a credit card."
What these "laws/restrictions" might be have never been identified.
Can I somehow exchange the giftcards that I have for App gift cards?
There are no "app gift cards". Again, you can only use a credit card to purchase software in the Canadian iTunes Store.
Problem is I don't have a credit card to purchase the apps.
Perhaps you could obtain one of the "prepaid" credit cards some banks offer. If not, then the only way you'll be able to buy apps is to get someone to allow you to use their credit card.

  • Rented a Movie in iTunes on iMac, but want to watch it with AppleTV

I rented a movie in iTunes on my iMac. But now, I would like to watch this movie with my AppleTV (newest generation).
Following http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1657 this should be possible:
If you download a rented movie on your computer: You can transfer it to a device such as your Apple TV (1st generation), iPhone, iPad, or iPod if it’s a standard-definition film (movies in HD can only be watched on your computer, iPad, iPhone 4 or later, iPod touch (4th generation or later), or Apple TV). Once you move the movie from your computer to a device, the movie will disappear from your computer's iTunes library. You can move the movie between devices as many times as you wish during the rental period, but the movie can only exist on one device at a time.
But what are the steps to get in running on my AppleTV?
    Thanks for any advice,
    Adrian

Sorry, what I was attempting to clarify was this:
You can rent the movie on your desktop but in order to watch it on your ATV you will have to turn on Home Sharing and download the movie to your desktop, only then will the rented movie appear on your ATV under Home Sharing.
Either this is a flaw in the software or part of a copyright arrangement. If you purchase a movie, then it will appear under Movies > Purchased on the ATV, for some reason rentals do not. If this is software related then it should be fixed at some point. Although the original thread is from over a year ago, the problem persists. Renting on the ATV directly is not optimal since the file is not transferable to any other device, presumably b/c there is no file? But that shouldn't matter. All that should matter is: this Apple ID purchased this item > it should be available on all devices associated w/that Apple ID.

  • As a new user of apple TV, I need some advice. When I rent a movie from Itunes for viewing later, it seems to download for a second time, with a message saying ready to view in 30 mins, it proceeds to load up all over again. What am I doing wrong

As a new user of Apple TV, I need some assistance. When I rent a movie on iTunes and download for viewing later, say a day or two later, It seems to load itself all over again with a msg saying ready to view in 25 mins ! So having waited the 25 mins movie starts and runs for maybe 1 hour and the pauses for maybe 5 mins while it seems to load again . any help appreciated

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
If you use the Apple TV for something else or turn it off it will erase whatever is on it's drive. If you are going to download content for later viewing you might consider doing it on the computer, downloads don't disappear until they expire and you can watch them as many times as you want.

  • Rented a movie on itunes, but it won't play or transfer, why?

I rented a movie on itunes, but when trying to play it the computer prompts me "itunes has stopped working" and then crashes. Then when trying to transfer the rental, thinking it was possibly a computer issue, itunes then notifies me that it cannot transfer because my computer has not been authorized to play the movie. The rental movie was not only purchased and downloaded on an authorized computer, I also attempted to humor it and authorize it again, yet it remains in the same condition after several tries.
I was attempting to transfer it to an iphone 4s, but if there is a possibility of playing it on a computer it would be prefered. My operating system is Windows 7, if that helps.

I've seen this when downloaded to a computer/device that wasn't authorized.  Try to re-authorize in case it (or someone else) became de-authorized again.

  • I rented a movie on iTunes and, really annoyingly, it has stopped 30 minutes before the end. Any suggestions? And how do I go about getting a refund?

  • I rented a movie from iTunes. When I go to watch; it says download???

I rented a movie from iTunes for my iPad 3rd Gen. I went to the video app like usual. Selected to watch, and it said- I've already purchased it, but I have to go to downloads to download it. What the heck does that mean? Where do I go. It's taking me longer to figure this out; then would've been to watch the movie. Please help! I'd really appreciate it
