I saved My itunes library to an ehd and now my playlists are gone.  When I tried option hold and selected it from ehd and added it to my library it copies it but as soon as I eject the hard drive it says choose or create new library when I launch iTunes

I saved my itunes library to an external hard drive and my playlists disappeared.  I tried holding down the option button and selecting choose library and selecting the library from the hard drive.  When I do this it opens up and everything comes back. When I add the library to my itunes I can see it copying the music but as sson as I unplug the hard drive I have no itunes at all.  It says the folder containing the itunes library cannot be found and is required.
Please Help!

You need to make sure it is connected and mounted before launching iTunes.

  • I just replaced the hard drive on my macbook pro, reformatted new hard drive and copied over a backup from time machine now I have a kernel panic message (you must restart) - what do I do now?

i just replaced the hard drive on my macbook pro, reformatted new hard drive, installed a back up from time machine and now have kernel panic ( you must restart your computer) what do I need to do?

If you're able to boot, launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ If you’re running Mac OS X 10.7 or later, open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the page that opens.
Select the most recent panic log under System Diagnostic Reports. Post the contents – the text, please, not a screenshot. For privacy’s sake, I suggest you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header and body of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.) Please don't post "shutdownStall" or "hang" reports.
If you can't boot in the usual way, try a safe boot. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Be sure your Mac is shut down.
    Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
During startup, you’ll see a progress bar, and then the login screen, which appears even if you normally log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Safe mode is slower than normal, and some things won’t work at all.

  • My mac book pro does not start but has error message with a question mark on screen. took it in and was told probably the hard drive as could not reconize it so bought new one but still not connecting.what do i do

My mac book pro does not connect but shows an error message with a question mark on the screen.I took it to a retailer that said it was not reconizing the hard drive. He said i needed a new hard drive but it may be something else as well but he was sure a new hard drive would fix it.So putting faith in someone who deals with them i purchased a new hard drive to find it was still not working although he said the computer did know reconize the hard drive and i may have to send it away to get it checked .After already paying 120 pounds for a new hard drive and they wanting another 80.00 pounds to diagnose it i am a little sceptical.
That's why i am interested on anyone's help.

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
I think that your Mac detects your hard disk, but the problem is that your new hard disk doesn't contain any operating system, so your Mac doesn't find any bootable partition and you see a question mark.
If your Mac came with DVDs, insert the Mac OS X Install DVD and hold the C key while your Mac is starting. Then, just install Mac OS X. If the hard disk isn't prepared to install Mac OS X, you will have to erase it using "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)". See > http://pondini.org/OSX/DU1.html

  • Aperture Video Import Problem - from Lumix GH4: Imported clips have their dates changed to the import date.  The files show up on the hard drive but many are not showing up in Aperture.

Aperture Video Import Problem - from Lumix GH4: Imported clips have their dates changed to the import date.  The files show up on the hard drive with import date not created date, but many of these same files are not showing up in Aperture. Sometimes the clips actually show up with the current import but take on the video information from a previously imported file.

It was suggested I move this question to IPhoto or IMovie which I did.
Well moving to a different discussion group did not provide an answer to this question either. But what I finally did was import one batch of photos and videos into IPhoto for a given day at a time. Working with these I could change the date and times in order to get them in the original sequench taken. Then I would create an album with that batch. These would all be on the same day (IMove was closed for this phase). Then I would open IMovie, generate the thumbnails for that album, and select the album I had created. This was necessary because the importing process in IPhoto was using incorrect dates for my video so it was a real struggle finding them in IMove until I developed this approach.
I believe that this whole process was so screwy because I was importing from an external hard drive not a camera. I had these photos on a PC and did not have the original cameras to use to import directly which I am fairly sure would have made this easier!

  • Disk utility can't find the hard drive

I'm getting the flashing question mark when I try to start up my computer. I tried to use disk utility (starting the machine from the system software CD) to diagnose the problem but it wouldn't even find the hard drive. Any suggestions? Any help greatly appreciated!

Nothing at all, Tony. When I came back to work on my computer after a 30-minute break, one of the applications was frozen. Soon after, everything froze. After restarting, the flashing question mark came up. I was able to boot from CD but when I tried to run disk utility it wouldn't find the hard drive. At this point I'm at a loss and I'm worried about my data, which, as it happens, I hadn't stored elsewhere! Any suggestions?

  • Safely Eject External Hard Drive Before Sleep

After returning from a state of sleep, my computer always gives me this error message:
This is referring to the "unsafe ejection" of my external hard drive which I have hooked up to Time Machine for backups. I would think that the Mac has some sort of shutdown script it would run before going to sleep to safely eject the hard drives connected to the machine, but apparently it does not.
Does anyone know how I can avoid this message? In other words, is there a way to have my computer safely eject all drives before going to sleep?

In case anyone remembers the "good old days" - a few years back (mostly during OS 10.4 - Tiger), there were multiple problems reported with either USB and/or Firewire externals on wake-up; this included hard drives and hubs mostly. I was experiencing problems myself continuously with one of my hubs. Apple finally came out with one of their articles stating that the problems arose because, upon wake-up command, the computer would get confused momentarily as to what to start with first - internal HD, external HD, hub, or whatever and suggesting that you simply unmount (before sleep) whatever was causing the problem. The second suggestion was to unplug/plug in the USB or firewire cable after wakeup, which is what I had to do to get my keyboard and mouse working which were plugged into the hub. That was when I started to unmount and unplug my externals unless I actually needed them and I'm actually still doing that (habits!). I haven't had a problem with my hubs for a while now, but I'm wondering if it could be the same type of problem.

  • How to take out the Hard Drive...

My logic board died on my 12' iBook G4 and the information on there is critical to get back. I can't start my ibook up in target mode, but I would like to take the Hard Drive out and put it in a case. Can someone point me to a current link, step by step instructions please. • How durable is the Hard Drive?  Can it withstand G-forces?

I am the owner of both the iPod nano and iPod shuffle.
I have never owned an iPod with a hard drive. I take my iPod with me on all sorts of roller coasters and thrill rides and listen to music, but I am not sure if the hard drive on my new 5th Generation "video iPod" will be able to handle it.
Does this create damage over time?
    Thanks.

the G- Force on your average thrill ride doesn't actuallly get that high.
I would not take my ipod into space with me on a rocket car or try to break the sound barrier or deep sea diving.
I think it should be fine on your average roller coaster.
although I don't think you'll be too deprived if just to be safe you turn it off for the minute or so your actually on the ride.

  • I got this flashing question mark, i did some research into this and found out that the hard drive is the cause

i recently found my ibook and decided to see if it would still turn on. it did but i got this flashing question mark, i did some research into this and found out that the hard drive is the cause. so i opened it up replaced the hard drive and closed it up, booted from the disc and crossed my fingers but it did not pick up the hard drive. i thought it might not have been installed properly, so i opened it up to check the connections to make shure they were secure and closed it back up but now it wont even boot from the disc. so dose anyone know whats wrong with it because i really don't just want throw it away if its a simple fix. please if anyone know i would greatly appreciate it.

There often were more than one build of Apple computer per model number designation...
In the instance of iBook (white dualUSB) there appear to be two with number A-1007.
And both of these were 14-inch display models.
    •iBook G3/800 14-Inch (32 VRAM - Tr) 800 MHz PowerPC 750fx (G3)
    •iBook G3/900 14-Inch (Early 2003 - Op) 900 MHz PowerPC 750fx (G3)

There are a few fairly good repair guides online, some on http://iFixit.com site.
Here's the link to the early iBook G3 series, includes color + white dualUSB.
If your iBook is a 14-inch G3 white dualUSB model that one is there, too:
    •iBook G3 Repair guides - iFixit:
    https://www.ifixit.com/Device/iBook_G3
Either of these may be able to run a system no later than OS X Tiger 10.4.11.
So a system install disc set could be used to troubleshoot, install, restore &
prepare a replacement hard drive for a new system.
Not certain what the issues are behind your situation, there may be more than
meets the eye. Some models of iBook were more prone to hardware problems
and as they age, fewer opportunities to affordably repair them exist.
Good luck in resolving the iBook G3 issues...!

  • Can my macbook 4, 1 handle a 2tb hard drive if it fits into the hard drive bay?

Can my macbook 4, 1 handle a 2tb hard drive if it fits into the hard drive bay?
Does the hard drive brand matter as lon as the har drive fits in the slot?
I want to put a 2tb hard drive in my macbook 4, 1 but I am not sure if the hard drive will work.
Can my computer handle that big of a hard drive?

"If it fits" will be the limiting factor. The largest capacity that I know of that will fit is 1.5 TB.
OWC sold this 1 TB 12.5 mm WD hard disk a while ago that allegedly fit your MacBook4,1 so it stands to reason you won't be limited to a 9.5 mm dimension. The only 2 TB drives that I know of are 15 mm thick and will definitely not fit your MacBook. If and when you can find a 2 TB HDD in the required form factor it will work.

  • Erasing the hard drive

We have a seven year old (pre intel) iMac that we are giving away but I am unable to erase the hard drive using disk utility. When I go to erase, no button lights up. This should be a simple operation. I have done this before on older macs.

You're booted from the CD that you no longer have? I'm misunderstanding you.
You need either the original installation disk, or any retail version of OS X which is compatible with your iMac (eg, 10.4). Run Disk Utility from the Utilities menu once you boot to the disk.
Or, you can connect the iMac to another Mac with Firewire, attach a Firewire cable, restart the iMac with the T key held down, and the drive will appear on the other Mac's desktop. You can then use the other Mac's Disk Utility to wipe that mounted drive.
One other option would be to physically remove the drive from the Mac, put it into an external enclosure and wipe it that way, but hopefully you'll be able to use one of the first two methods.
