I saved web page as html file, but can't open saved file as web page
I did a FILE, SAVE PAGE AS, then chose 'WEB PAGE COMPLETE' - and a directory is created on my hard drive - with the directory name, for example - "c:\....\Ask a Question _ Mozilla Support.htm". (for this web page).
When I try to open the saved web page from Firefox, using FILE, OPEN, I see a new window that looks like a file manager window, I then select that saved .html file and click OPEN, and a new window opens that looks like file manager - displaying with all the files in that directory - "Ask a Question _ Mozilla Support.htm". That is, it does not open and dislpay the web page as I expect it should (that I saved earlier).
However, if I go to the file manager, I can see that directory is saved, and has the Windows Explorer icon associated with the directory "ask a question ....html", and also has a file type of HTML listed. If I double click that directory in file manager, Windows Explorer will open that directory and dis[play it as a web page, as I expected.
I would like to know why Firefox does not open the directory name as a web page from the FILE, OPEN command, but instead shows me the directory contents(all the files in that directory)?
BTW, if I try FILE, OPEN, using Windows Explorer the same thing happens - it opens a new window listing all the files in that directory.
Is this the way the FILE, OPEN is supposed to work?
It seems confusing, because if I am in any other program, for example WinWord, and do a FILE, OPEN command on a Word file, it opens the file as a Word Document - it does not just show the file in a "file manager window.
But when I click FILE, OPEN on an HTML file(directory using Firefox, it does not open that html directory as a web page?
I am in the Windows Explorer 'Details' view, and I see the folder with 'Type' of FILE FOLDER. In that folder are all the .js and .css and .png files - as cor-el said.
''But now I also see'' that there is also an htm file - ''with the exact same name ''as the folder, but it has a 'Type' of 'HTML Document'. When I have Firefox do a File, Open on the HTML Document - it does open the web page that I saved and does display it as a web page.
I did not realize that Firefox saves both:
1) a Directory '''(Type 'File Folder') '''''', and,
2) an html file''' (Type 'HTML Document')
... '''and that they are the exact same names! '''
I was clicking on the wrong one! Instead of clicking in the .html file, I was incorrectly clicking on the folder!
(The archive add on looks interesting, but shouldn't I be able to open the saved web page, from the browser, using File, Open File) ?

You mentioned you tried some steps but I'm not sure what they are, you may try my suggestion to resolve this issue, follow these steps:
Click Start, right-click Computer, click
Properties, and then click Advanced system settings.
On the Advanced tab, click Environment Variables.
Locate and select the __COMPAT_LAYER variable, and then click Edit.
Set the value of the __COMPAT_LAYER variable to EnableThemes. Or, delete the __COMPAT_LAYER variable.
If the issue persists, we can troubleshoot this problem in Clean Boot to determine whether background programs are interfering with PowerPoint:

Users can see, but can't open image files
We store all of our digital photos (jpg's) on an Xserve RAID attached to an Xserve.
Twice in the last 3 weeks I have started getting calls from staff members to tell me that they can see the files but can't open them.
The jpg files aren't recognized.
If I click on a file from my iMac I get the following message:
"Couldn't open the file. It may be corrupt or a file format that preview doesn't recognize."
If I reboot the server. The problem goes away. The files aren't corrupt and people can access them again. I saw this three weeks and then again today, so it's not like it happens every day.
Even though I connect from a Mac, most of my users are Windows users connecting via Samba.
We are using RAID Admin: 1.5 and Firmware ver.: 1.5-1.5.xfb
Mac OSX Server is 10.4.1
Any ideas why this happens?Does the same thing happen with files that are on the local drive? That would be the first thing I'd check.
Any reason you're running 10.4.1 server and not 10.4.3? There were tons of fixes in 10.4.2 and 10.4.3 around the file system... I'd recommend the update strongly. -

I have no idea to what is going on, but I did all this work and now that I try to reopen the psd file, I can't.
I don't see anything, no layer, no photo nothing.
I am using window xp. got the scratch setup on an external drive with plenty of space. got 4gof memory and plenty of processing power.
once again I can see the thumbnail but can't open the psd file.
Thank you for your help.I got it to work. I think my main problem was since my psd file crashed I was using existing pdf to save as psd. well that didn't go well with photoshop. Plus the fact my scratch was in an external location. Once I recreated the drawing and installed an additional hard-drive where I relocated the scratch file I was set to go. I now can save and reopen the file with no issues.

Backing up emails as mbox files, but can't open
Sorry if this has been covered, but I haven't yet found anything yet when looking through the search results.
I have the 1.2.5 (v553) Mail application. I'm attempting to back up an email folder by saving it as a mbox file (dragging the folder from the mail drawer to a zip disk). However, when I attempt to open the mbox file to see if I can indeed access the emails, the icon cannot be opened - it's faded. I went through the process of going File>Import Mailboxes>Standard Mbox Files. When I find the mbox file it is faded and cannot be selected.
Any ideas as to what I'm doing wrong?

this is somewhat of an interface weirdness in Mail - you will have to select the enclosing folder, not the mbox file itself (if you closely read the dialog before the file selection dialog, you will see that it tells you so). You will then in the next step get a list of mbox files you can import.

Safari downloads but can't open dowloaded file
I am a brand new Mac user. I have been reading posts and posts but can't seem to figure out my problem. I will try to download video content or download a software but after the file is downloaded, when trying to retrieve file an error msg keeps appearing "safari can't open because no program associated". In my preferences, its downloading to desktop and I have tried downloading to other applications ie quicktime (but says quicktime error reading files). I can't seem to open any downloads at all....for example i am downloading flash player for macs but i keep getting that safari error message, help??
you might need stuffit expander or maybe since safari is showng that message somehow maybe your primary installer got corrupt i would try an archive and install because that message is odd but first try to download stuffit if it wont download then somethings corrupt and if you call apple theyll just tell you to archive and install with a problem like this

Why won't my LR 5 open?
I have described the whole issue here. It seems like there is NO support unless I buy a subscription.
After paying for this CD (Amazon) and I have the serial # . The files are there but nothing opens.
Customer Care on the website is useless! All it does is go to troubleshooting which didn’t help at all. That’s how I got to forums.

Transferred backup file from old to new laptop but can't open backup file in new iTunes

I've purchased the new iPhone 5, however, it won't allow me to backup from my iTunes from my old laptop (where my 4S's backup was) because iTunes 10.7 can't operate on OSX 10.5.8. So I transferred the backup file onto my new macbook air. When I plugged my new phone into the laptop and opened up iTunes, where can I find the option to set up my phone according to the backup that I transferred to the new macbook?

I have signed up for iCloud but can't open it even after I sign in. I just get the account page.
I set up iCloud on my iPad Air and on my PC but can't open it past the Account page where I sign in. I can't access any of the features (like iemail, documents etc.) There is no where for me to open them.
I'm not sure what you're looking for on your iPad. You set up iCloud by going to Settings>iCloud, signing in with your Apple ID to create your account, then turning on the data you want to sync with iCloud. However, iCloud is a service, it isn't an app. It will sync data that you add or change within the apps on your your iPad that are syncing with iCloud (contacts, calendars, notes, reminders, etc.).
When you go to icloud.com from your computer browser, you should get the sign in pop-up like the image below. After signing in, you can access the apps from icloud.com. If this isn't working for you, you may need to troubleshoot your browser as explained here: http://support.apple.com/kb/ts4050. -

Two things:
• as Jim says, ACR 2.4—the latest version that will ever run in CS1—is light-years behind ACR 5.4 in CS4. You'll be wasting a lot of image quality; and
• CS1 will cease to be eligible for any upgrade as soon as CD5 is announced in a few months. Bite the bullet now, or pay full price for Photoshop in six months or so, maybe sooner. -
I can't open a file I just created a week ago and it says pages needs to be updated to open the file but its up to date, what do I do?
You have 2 versions of Pages on your Mac.
Pages 5.2.2 is in your Applications folder.
Pages '09/'08 is in your Applications/iWork folder.
You are alternately opening the wrong versions.
Pages '09/'08 can not open Pages 5 files and you will get the warning that you need a newer version.
Pages 5.2 can open Pages '09 files but may damage/alter them. It can not open Pages '08 files at all.
Older versions of Pages 5 can not open files from later versions of Pages 5.
Once opened and saved in Pages 5 the Pages '09 files can not be opened in Pages '09.
Anything that is saved to iCloud and opened in a newer version of Pages is also converted to Pages 5 files.
All Pages files no matter what version and incompatibility have the same extension .pages.
Pages 5 files are now only compatible with themselves on a very restricted set of hardware, software and Operating Systems and will not transfer correctly on any other server software than iCloud.
Apple has removed over 110 features from Pages 5 and added many bugs:

You can add the icon of the missing Pages on your Dock or open Pages from the Apple menu > Recent Items list.
Or you can archive Pages 5 so that it doesn't automatically open.

Yes - well you have to make the file in a word processing Application.
You could use TextEdit (it's free) Pages (words only), or Numbers (data base) (they are part of iWorks - and may or may not be free (included) on your machine. You could use MS Office (it is not free) You could use any Open source word processor that plays well with Office (NeoOffice, StarOffice) they are free.
That's how you create content and copy/paste URLS. Then you save the file to the desktop. If you are going to make more than one file... you make a folder on the desktop and save, or drag the file(s) into it.
You attach it to your e-mail client which will compress it and e-mail it. An excellent reference is to use Help, from the menu bar, also from inside any application. From your library or book store the OS X for Dummies has a lot of useful information (you don't read it cover to cover but look up chapters about what you'd like to do)
You can also make appointments at your local Apple store for individualized help (if a store is nearby) -
Pages is not saving document correctly. After saving the changes either do not appear or you can not open the file. The error is "not a valid format" I am in Pages '09 4.1 (923). I also use Parallels. Anyone having similar issues?
I'm not sure that Lion AutoSave feature apply to network servers.
I'm just sure that the Versions feature doesn't.
