I seem to have lost Sony AVCHD files while importing them into iPhoto. The 50p files were not visible in the Import screen. iPhoto 9.6.1.

iPhoto 9.6.1 does not seem to recognize 50p AVCHD files from my Sony WS350x camera, so they are not imported, but are deleted from camera when the question is asked in the importscreen !!!
Why is that ? I am not happy....
Workaround: Should I import the media files with Sony's Playmemories sw first ?

The problem with AVCHD is that there are a wealth of codecs and very little standardisation further, these aren't files, but clusters of interlinked files that make up the data stream.

Bear in mind that not all Codecs are supported.
As an FYI: A note on AVCHD: This format was developed for people who are shooting to edit the material afterwards. If you're shooting to edit, then iMovie or Final Cut are the correct home for this material. If you're not shooting to edit consider using one of the other video formats on your Camera.

I have the 5.5 Lightroom software on my I-Mac with OS-X, 10.9.3. It seems I have lost 850 pictures I was developing. It all started when was adding a folder. A new screen came up with no photos. I went back to my external drive, trying to open the folder (containing the pictures I was working on), an icon "Thumbs" came up. HT5275 Safari 6.0 on Mac OSX Lion - The 'Empty Cache" option not visible in the File pull-down menu
Booted up Safari today and the "Empty Cache option is no longer availabe in the Safari pull down menu. Any suggestions?
Clearing History will empty the cache now but it will also clear your favicons. You can clear cache only by going to Safari>Preferences > Advanced and select Show develop menu in the menu bar. There is an option to clear caches from there.

Has anybody got this message? iTunes says this when I sync my iPhone4. It does not say what songs were not copled or whether it is my iPhone 4 or my iMac (2011) 21" that it is referring to. Both devices are authorized in iTunes 10.4 (80). How do you fix it? Running OS 10.6.8

I could not send messages via imessage. The imessage icon is not visible on my home screen; however, when i type it on search bar the app appears. I it possible that i have deleted the app? If i did, can i reinstall one?
Go to Settings>General>Reset>Reset Screen Layout. The app/icon is just somewhere where y can't find it.

HELP I seem to have lost all my files after turning on Filevault
Hey all,
im completly new to all things Mac, everything has been great so far but now i seem to have lost everything.
I turned on Filevault protection then shutdown my Macbook, came back to it a couple of hours later and now all of my files, itunes music files have gone, all of the settings and preferences seem to be back to the factory settings, and well everything has dissapeared?!! any help would be greatly appreciated.

Clearly, your system is no longer mounting your sparseimage file the way it should. The good part of this is that your files are still relatively safe inside that sparseimage. I would not try to turn filevault on or off again. That could be dangerous. Your goal now is backup.
In the terminal, you can type "open /Users/.stuartcampbell/stuartcampbell.sparseimage" to mount that disk image as a new volume. Hopefully, you can log in as "stuart campbell" and do this. That would be really good. If you can, log in as "stuart campbell", open that disk image, and copy all the files you find into a new folder named "saved files" under the "/Users/Shared" folder. You want to get your files out of that sparseimage and into the real file system.
Once you get your files out, you can try to turn filevault off again. My hunch is that FileVault is already off. I think your system has created a new home directory for you named "stuart campbell1" because the old one was corrupted. If this is so, you can safely copy all your files from the sparse image into this new account, overwriting anything you already have. (Just make real sure that your current home directory really is just blank data!!!). At this point, you should be running again, with your home directory being named "stuart campbell1".
If all this is true, try the following. Rename that old "/Users/stuart campbell" folder to /Users/stuart campbell.old". You can run NetInfo, go into "Users", and change your home directory back to "stuart campbell". Then, before doing anything else, rename "stuart campbell1" back to "stuart campbell". Save your NetInfo changes, quit, logout, cross your fingers, and log back in.
I realize this is very complicated and more than you really want to do. I don't see any way around it. It is very difficult to know exactly what state your system is in and exactly what is going to work and what won't. A trip to the Apple Store or a similar place might be a good idea. I say might because there is no guarantee they can fix it either. There are still way too many steps that say "If this works" and "try this".
There are some key things to remember and do in any case. Try to open that disk image and get your files out.
Don't fiddle with any account security settings until your files are out of there.
Once your data is secure (or rather - in a safe place), you can feel free to fiddle with account settings and swap out those directories to get back to a good state. I can assure you that it will take a bit of fiddling and may not work at all. Just get your files out there and we can get you up to speed again after that. -
Need help, I seem to have lost 2 months of photos
Hello, I own PSE5 on Windows XP. I just recently purchased a hard drive and was in the process of moving my photos to it. I was following the article on Adobe's website entitled
Move files to another disk using Folder Location Arrangement in Photoshop Elements 5.0 (Windows). I was at Step 5 which says:
5. If an alert displays the message, "You are attempting to move the currently open catalog file. The folder can not be moved while the catalog is open. Close Photoshop Elements and move your catalog file to a new location first and then try moving this folder again.", then do the following:
a. Click OK and close Photoshop Elements.
b. Use a program such as Windows Explorer to move the catalog file to the desired location.
c. Open Photoshop Elements and start at step 1 to use Folder Location Arrangement to move the folder.
I did receive the alert message, closed PSE, and manually moved my pictures to the new hard drive successfully (they were located in My Documents > My Pictures > Adobe and I moved the Adobe folder). When I opened PSE, I got a message saying that it couldn't find my Catalog so I navigated to the new location and selected the Catalog (this wasn't in the directions, but i just assumed it was the case--how else could I get from Step 5c back to Step 1?) Step 5c says to go back to Steps 1 through 4:
1. Choose Folder Location from the Arrangement pop-up menu, in the lower left corner of the Photo Well.
2. Locate the folder of items you want to move in the Folder Location Tree and click once on the folder name to select it; the folder name will display highlighted in blue.
3. Drag this folder to the disk you want to move it to in the Folder Location tree. Release the mouse button when the correct destination folder is highlighted.
4. If a dialog box displays telling you that the folder being moved contains files that are not visible in the Organizer, then click Yes. (See About the Folder Location tree section above.)
I was a little confused by the fact that the old location still had the Adobe folder in it and that I was moving it to the new hard drive that already had a folder named Adobe. I moved it anyway thinking it was just the organizer information I'd be moving. When I dropped the folder, an error message came up saying something to the effect that a problem occurred and it couldn't continue. I clicked OK and went back to Windows Explorer to check out the photos on the new drive. The only thing I found was the Catalog file, no photos at all. I went back and checked the My Pictures folder and saw an Adobe folder, but it only contained 2 folders, "Other Photos" and "Outgoing E-mail Attachments" which I think are the default PSE folders. I did a search of my computer and none of the photos showed.
I'm relieved to say I have a backup, but it was updated 2 months ago--lots of photos were taken in that span of time. I have PSE open now with the Folder Location view selected. The old Adobe folder is still visible, but the sub-folders all show as kind of greyed out. The thumbnails show in the main area, but if I double-click on a photo it starts searching for the missing file. I'm letting it search while I type this.
I hope someone can help me. I've looked in the Recycle Bin, run a search, tried to undo, etc. I tried to follow the directions carefully, but it didn't seem to match. I'm definitely frustrated and sad, but I'm trying to stay calm in order to work this out.

ForaYou might want to download something called an undelete utility. These can find files and recover them even after they appear to have been lost. There are some undelete utility programs that are free. Look at tucows.com
Also, it appears that you have POSSIBLY overwritten the actual files, which you moved manually, with I don't know what, which you moved in PSE's folder location view.
Next, in the future ... NEVER (that's: don't even think about it) move your photos in Windows. NEVER. NEVER. Not ever. Not once. This always (that's ALWAYS, as in 100% of the time) causes problems and usually makes things difficult to fix.
Lastly ... make regular backups! I must say this in the forums about seventy bazillion times a month. Make regular backups! Regular depends on how often you take photographs and edit them. Since my photographic activity usually happens on the weekends, I make backups every Sunday night. You may need a different schedule, depending on your activity level. MAKE REGULAR BACKUPS! -
After the last update of itunes I seem to have lost all the music that I had downloaded from my Cds. It was a lot of music! All I still have is the music that I had purchased in the itunes store. And before you asked. No, I did not have a backup. Never got around to do it.

I was prompted to update to iPhoto 11 yesterday (don't know why yesterday, I'm in iPhoto all the time). So I followed the instructions, library updated, all existing events and albums are there. I uploaded some more pictures and created a few new albums and did some new year spring cleaning, moving stuff around etc. And I started making a calendar.
I've opened it up today, my calendar is still there as are all the new events, but the pictures are empty outlines. If I open up a picture I just get the "!" but I can still see the thumbnails showing in the slider in the bottom - I don't know if that means the source files must still be there somewhere, or if it just means it captured thumbnails yesterday.
I've gone into it via "show package contents" and there just don't seem to be any masters for an upload yesterday. I also just had a look in the last import folder, because of a comment from someone above. As I scrolled down through the folder the images were there and literally disappeared in front of me - by which I mean, the thumbnails were there as I scrolled down and then would turn into empty outlines...!
All my old folders are still there, thankfully (although they're of course the ones that are also all safely back up).
Although I have a timecapsule, my photo library is too big to keep on my hard drive, so I keep it on an external drive - so it only gets backed up when I do it manually (thanks Apple for that, I will never understand why it was designed to work - or not work - that way). So if the pictures have been lost then they are gone for good which is super-frustrating (I just got back from South Korea and was in the middle of sorting out all my shots from that trip). It seems that this can only have happened because of the update - I should have known better than to have pressed yes.
If you have any ideas, I'd be most grateful!

That will take you into iPhoto in Time Machine where you can search for the phtoos and restore them.
To restore the entire library, close iPhoto, go to the Pictures folder, enter Time Machine, go back in time till you get the library you want to restore, select it and use the Restore button.

I seem to have lost most of my library
I moved my iTunes files to a portable extrenal Hard Drive because i had to get the files off a work computer. But I seemed to have lost half if not most of my music files and all my playlist.Can I recover all that off my ipod? Please tell me how I don't want to reload all those CD's again. I have tried to look on the old C drive but nothing comes up any suggestions?
If you are using iTunes version 7 or later, then you can transfer purchased iTunes store music from the iPod to an authorized computer by using the "file/transfer purchases from iPod" menu. Note that the maximum of 5 authorized computers applies here.
For all other non purchased music (your own CDs etc) try this method which works on some Windows PCs.
Enable your iPod for disk use.
See: iPod Disk Use.
Open iTunes and select edit/preferences/advanced/general. Put a check mark in the box marked "copy files to iTunes music folder when adding to library" and also "keep iTunes music folder organized", then click 'ok'.
Connect the iPod whilst holding down the shift/ctrl keys to prevent any auto sync, and if you see the dialogue window asking if you want to sync to this itunes library, click 'no'.
Then go to file/add folder, open 'my computer', select your iPod and click 'ok'.
The music files should transfer to your iTunes.
If this doesn't work (and it may not because officially it's not supposed to), check out the instructions/suggestions here.
Music from iPod to computer (using option 2). This a manual method using "hidden folders" and although it works, it can be messy.
Much easier ways are to use one of the many 3rd party programs that copy music from the iPod to the computer.
One of the most recommended is Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music from iPod back to the computer. However, it does not transfer playcounts/ratings etc.
Another free program is Pod Player. -
I have just upgraded to os x lion 10.7.4 and I seem to have lost approx 4000 photos from iPhoto. Is there a way to recover these photos?
The Lion upgrade does not touch iPhoto. However, you may need to purchase an iPhoto upgrade.

I have just uploaded a new operating system (windows 8.1) on to my computer but seem to have lost my itunes library. Can this be restored? Can I plug in my ipod and syncronise so that my ipod library transfers to my computer Itunes account?

You should never update without making sure your backup copy of your computer is up to date.

That just means that iTunes can't locate the files. Have you perhaps moved, deleted or renamed a folder that contained the music you had in your library?

There are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well.
