I think my os crashed
i own a power book (ppc) and was using os x 10.5.8
when i get to login, no applications or anything is loaded onto the screen in other words the purple screen remains blank. what can i do?
should i purchase another OS and i tried looking for leopard on the apple store and i didd not find any.
i am in uganda, some help
They don't sell Leopard anymore. You can get it on eBay.
For something to try now -
Restart your Mac and hold down the shift key After the gong sound. Hold it until you get the login screen.
Startup takes extra long because the hard drive is automatically repaired during startup.
After it completes, just restart normally.
Does that help?

I have a folder with a question mark and I hear the drive running I think my drive crashed
I have an imac intel duel core I run OSX 6.8 lately the gear has been hanging up a lot I keep haveing to shut down and force quit and reboot. yesterday a folder with a question mark showed up. today nothing shows up but I can hear the hard drive. I booted up the os dvd for SL and it wont see the hard drive. only the dvd player and idisk (which I can't use anymore ) I have disconnected my external storages. I am now on my mac airbook chatting to you.
Do you have any suggestions as to what to do?Probably a crashed HD. Please carefully read Apple's Flashing question mark appears when you start your Mac article for trouble shooting steps. As long as you have been backing up the system it's minor inconvenience of replacing the Internal HD and restoring from your backup. If you haven't been backing up then you are about to learn why backing up it's optional it's critical.

Dead, as in a black screen and the red LED blinks?
If your BlackBerry stays powered off with a black screen, follow the instructions below. The only indication of life might be the blinking red LED light in the top corner. Nothing seems to wake it up and Desktop Manager doesn't recognize any device is connected.
1) Make sure you have Blackberry Desktop Manager installed.
http://na.blackberry.com/eng/services/desktop/
2) On your PC, go to Start > Run and copy and paste the following line exactly (meaning with the quotation marks):
"c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader\loader.exe" /nojvm
3) The Application Loader Wizard will appear -- click "Next."
4) In the "Connection:" drop-down menu, you should see "USB-PIN: UNKNOWN". Click the "Next" button.
5) You should then see a list of applications ready to be installed for your Blackberry. Hit Next and Finish and you are well on your way to getting your Blackberry back to life. Just don't disconnect anything and let the lengthy process finish completely.
NOTE: If you do not see a list of applications mentioned in step 5 and instead see the message "The Blackberry Desktop Software does not have Blackberry Device Software for the device that you have connected to the computer. Contact your wireless service provider or system administrator," then you must download Blackberry's Operating System for your carrier and device.
http://www.blackberryfaq.com/index.php/BlackBerry_Operating_System_Downloads
Just select the appropriate carrier and network type, select your Blackberry model from the list and download the latest version. Install this download and follow the above steps again and you should be on the right path.

I am programmer and want to open and close Firefox according to my needs. Opening with the right url is not a problem, but closing. If I simply kill the task, FF sees it as a crash and wants to start in safe mode everytime. So what to "tell" FF, that it closes automatically without seeing it as a crah?

I think my mac crashed? help please
I was in the process of having just downloaded some songs from itunes and the computer started pinwheeling/glitched like it does from time to time and so I restarted the computer manually. When it booted up, there is a question mark folder flashing. My brother usually does all the computer stuff at my house but he has moved away. I talked to him on the phone and he said it sounds like it has crashed. I inserted the OS disk1 and it recognized it and went to the installation, asking to pick your language. So it looks like I may be able to reinstall everything, but if I do this I will for certain lose all files/songs, etc. I am not going to reinstall unless this is my last resort. I really don't want to lose all of my stuff. anything else I can try first? so that I can recover my files? thanks
Message was edited by: FM/ARNormally you can recover your files. See my backup FAQ*:
http://www.macmaps.com/backup.html
Once you have recovered sufficiently enough, make another duplicate of what is available.
Once you are backed up to your comfort level, you can attempt to repair the directory*:
http://www.macmaps.com/directoryfaq.html
If you still can't make your Mac bootable, see if you can empty unnecessary files*:
http://www.macmaps.com/diskfull.html
Or possibly zap the PRAM to solve problems:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=2238
Only then, if nothing else works, run the hardware test that came with your Mac:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303081 - for 4 USB port Mac Minis.
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=86287 - for 2 USB port Mac Minis.
If nothing there is detectable, come back and tell us what you've tried.

Help :( I think my ibook crashed!
I purchased my ibook g4 MAYBE in late April or early May. I didn't have any problems with it until earlier this month. My internet constantly started freezing, and a couple of days before it crashed, the finder would freeze when I clicked on it. I haven't dropped my ibook, kicked it, or anything else. I tried to take it to the apple store and the woman told me "Sorry, we can't do anything for you." She literally said that. I do NOT have the protection plan (and i'm wishing I did waste my money on it) but I know there's a 1-year warranty invovlved. I can't imagine why it would crash if I didn't do anything to it.
Oh, I don't know if it crashed completely, but I turn it on..and it gets to the load screen, where it says "Loading Mac OS X" and then freezes (even though it shows progress)
Needless to say, i'm incredibly p issed off because I can't find my apple reboot CD, and I don't even know if I for sure got one.
I am incredibly upset about this, so if somebody could help me, PLEASE DO SO.
ibook G4 Mac OS 9.0.x 12-inch
ibook G4 Mac OS 9.0.xit's hard to do much without system CD.
you can verify warranty by serial number at "About Your Support Coverage" (lower right):
http://www.apple.com/support/
if you bought iBook from authorized dealer, 1 year warranty applies from the date of purchase.
if the issues is corrupted software, warranty may not be covering it (warranty covers parts failure)
all machines come with the system disks, if you bought it new it's supposed to have the disks.
without system CD you may want to try "single user mode" and running fsck command, it is possible that it could make things worse though if the drive is damaged.

I think my laptop crashed. what are the signs of overheating?
I was just on my laptop, and suddenly the screen went black. Not fully black though, greyish. I waited for a few minutes then diconnected the power. I reconnected it and switched it back on. The blue LED light for the power work however it is not doing anything as the light int flashing. This time the screen goes pitch-black. I turned it on and off but then the same happened. I think its overheated as it was charging.
Please help! I dont knw what to do. It might be a virus but I was planning on doing a full scan tomorrow because it takes 12hours.
It is a HP 2133 Netbook. I got it from school.Halena,
I am sorry it's not working yet. I am glad you have someone that can look at it. If you've had problems with it, then it was probably just working itself up to the complete failure. (Something to know for next time...) I am glad you have called HP. They may be able to help you pinpoint the failure.
When you take your notebook to the technicians at school, try to remember any error messages you saw and tell them kinds of problems you had. It will help the techs to find the problem faster, so you can get your computer back sooner!
Good Luck!
Kind Regards,

I think my iPod crashed?
Black screen with grey running lines. Home screen button and lock button don't respond. This is a brand new iPod I got on the 27th December, It has about 3 small apps and no music. ;o;
- I was on the facebook app when it crashed. .... And also I didnt upgrade to iOS(5) x:First try to press and hold the lock/sleep and the home buttons for 15 seconds to reset your iPod.
If that doesn't work and you're in the US, find a service provider (Apple store or AASP) near you at
http://www.apple.com/buy/locator/service/
They will replace it for you, no cost, if it's under warranty. -
When I turn on my Dual 2GHz Power PC G5, the screen stays black, and the indicator lights on the tower and the monitor both blink in 3 rapid succession.
Then after a minute or so, it sounds like the drive ( or fan?) reves up. When I purchased it in 2004, there was a video card issue fixed by apple, who replaced it.
Is this a crash? Is it permenant?

Can you count the beeps or flashes?
1 beep = no RAM installed
2 beeps = incompatible RAM types
3 beeps = no good banks
4 beeps = no good boot images in the boot ROM (and/or bad sys config block)
5 beeps = processor is not usable
In addition to the beeps, on some computers the power LED will flash a corresponding number of times plus one. The LED will repeat the sequence after approximately a 5-second pause. The tones are only played once.
Note: In this case, a flash is considered to be 1/4 second or 250 ms or greater in length.

Long question, I know :~) There are web sites that I may visit that will not allow me to exit the site, so I use Alt-Ctrl-Del in Windows to start the Task Manager and force the site to close by ending the program. The new version of Firefox (31.0) thinks that Firefox crashed and send me right back to the source of my problem.
Your documentation for this process is as follows:
After a crash
Due to unexpected issues such as problems with a website, software errors, or an accidental loss of power, Firefox may unexpectedly close. In these situations, Firefox can restore the pages that you were visiting when it is restarted. Firefox will automatically restore your previous session, the first time you launch it after a crash.
If Firefox crashes a second time, the Restore Session (i.e. "Well, this is embarrassing") page will appear when you next launch Firefox.
...and this is what I found trying to stop this process. Next, when I am forced to use Task Manager to close Firefox a second time to stop a badware site, then the 'Well this is embarrassing' dialog appears and I am finally safely away from the URL.
I do not want Firefox automatically sending me back to a problem site.
Thank you for any procedure you can suggest to stop Firefox from restoring problem web pages, Art ClaptonI am unwilling to attempt navigation away from these sites. The pop-ups that occur on the attempt to leave a site or to close the browser are exit traps offering incentive to stay.
Once upon a time, when the internet was less dangerous, I would be willing to close the exit pop-ups. Now, after twice being infected with malware trying to close the pop-ups, I now force close whichever browser I am using.
Recently, I clicked on the red X to close one pop-up, and it installed a trojan that I had to pay to be removed. When I clicked on 'Leave' in another exit pop, it didn't exit and it turned out I was giving permission to run a script file. Now that criminals have learned these exit pop-ups can be used to force a click action, the sites using them have become dangerous.
If I force the browser to close using Task manager, Please tell me how to stop FireFox from sending me directly back to the same site because it mistakenly believes it crashed when it did not. I forced it to close because I was on a site that had taken control of my browser and was not allowing me to leave the site.
No other browser sends me back to the potentially dangerous sites. I prefer Firefox, but the new version must have a setting that allows me to get safely away from a problem site? -
Basically I think that I crashed my emac. I downloaded a new upgrade torrent for my eMac and tried to install through an external drive. Some how I erased my Macintosh drive. My issue now is that I cannot even start my computer up. When I bought the computer it came with one disc and this is not the disc to install mac os x back onto the computer, its techtools. I tried to install the torrents from another computer and download them onto disc. I then tried to insert the disc into the eMac and install the mac os x software. The computer did not read the disc so that was a total failure. I also tried to use command+s to find a solution, nothing. I also tried to reset my pram and that was a failure. I also tried command, option, f+o and I couldn't find anything. Is there some kind of way to restore files onto the computer through these channels. I need your help guys, give me some helpful hints to get my computer back up and running, thank you...
Do you have access to a second Mac, maybe from a friend?
It sounds to me that you at least need to salvage your files using target disk mode through another Mac. I once had this problem on a friend's iMac, he did something wrong to his OS and wasn't sure exactly what (he was a new user at the time), his iMac was unresponsive, and an archive & install wasn't a viable option, so I connected his iMac with my old crate eMac via firewire and upon logging on to my Mac I could see his HDD as an external firewire disk that was fully accessible. I then proceeded to copy all his important files to my machine and installed Mac OS X all over again clean slate (not archiving and installing) to rectify the problem. Definitely as stated before you need to get the Mac OS X installation DVD to begin with, it's a must. -
I think my software is crashed. how to reinstall it.
i cant turn on my i pod touch 2G. i think os is crashed. is there a way to reinstall the software. i cant open the ipod using itunes.
- Have you tried resetting the iPod:
Reset iPod touch: Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Then connect to your computer and if it appears in iTunes restore the iPod.
- If iTunes does not see the iPod, place the iPod in recovery mode and then try to restore the iPod.. For recovery mode see:
iPhone and iPod touch: Unable to update or restore
Fo how to restore, see the restoring topic of:

Crashing when I try to specify audio input
Hey all. My name is William.
I am having trouble with Premiere. I started using it a few days ago and it is working great; however, I now want to record a voice-over. I haven't recorded audio in Premiere before, so I searched the help database. It told me I would need to specify the audio input, which sounded reasonable to me, so I went into Settings -> Audio Hardware and selected "Built in input/Built-in output" and it had the spinning wheel of death for a few moments (I'm on a Mac) and then crashed. I had turned off my error dialog boxes before due to a previous problem with Photoshop frequently thinking it had crashed when in fact I had quit it, so I have no way to report the problem other than here.
I have also tried setting the option to "System default input/output" and it still crashes.

I have trashed my preferences (hold down option right?) What's clearing the media cache? My mac mini is early 2010, 2.26 ghz intel core 2 duo, 4gb 1067 mhz ddr3 ram. Currently on 10.6.2 but am updating to 10.6.4 as I speak.
You can clear your preferences by holding down a modifer (I want to say shift-alt) when launching Premiere Pro or you can do this http://blogs.adobe.com/genesisproject/2009/11/having_weird_behavior_with_an.html
As for media cache - you'll find it in your preferences.
your system should run Premiere Pro fine, but it won't fly as you can probably imagine. Let me know how you make out.

I'm having issues with five pages within an InDesign document.
I was trying to export a document to PDF, but a couple of images weren't showing up on a couple of pages. So I tried exporting to PDF in a couple of different ways to see if that would help. It didn't. Instead, InDesign started crashing constantly. Turning Preflight off helped with that, and I was able to clear out any other potential problems (potentially problematic PDFs placed in the document, .eps images). I tried exporting as .idml, but it created 4 kb files that couldn't be opened; I think InDesign was crashing before the file could finish exporting. Now that I can get the document open for extended periods of time, I've tried exporting as a .idml file again, and it gets to 83% complete and doesn't finish.
I started trying to export as PDF again, and by exporting parts of the document, I was able to narrow the problem down to pages 162-166. I don't know what's different about these pages. I have the PDF that I managed to export successfully before it started crashing constantly (the one with the missing images--and to clarify, these missing images aren't on any of the problem pages, so it appears to be an unrelated issue), and from looking at those pages, I can't see what the issue is.
p. 162 - text and a table
p. 163 - text and an image
p. 164 - text
p. 165 - text and an image
p. 166 - text
I can't even scroll past these pages. Even in the Pages sidebar. It crashes. Here is the crash log from when I tried to scroll past. http://pastebin.com/B7ax4cAx
Here's a crash report for when I try to export those pages to PDF: http://pastebin.com/E6dA1igA
I'm using CS5 on OS X 10.5.8. When I started having these problems, I realized that I hadn't updated InDesign in awhile, so I updated to the latest. I'm using 7.0.4 now.Try reseting the preferences.
or delete Mark II folder from the location
Windows 7/Vista: C:\ProgramData\Adobe\SING\Mark II
Mac OS: [Startup Disk]/Library/Applications Support/Adobe/SING/Mark II
It will fix this..
This problem is pretty definitely not SING, so deleting the Mark II folder is not going to help. (It wont't hurt, though!)
Resetting prefrences is always a good thing to try.
I suspect it is a corrupt story thread of some sort. Moving pages to a new document, exporting stories to IDML, copying the file and deleting pages until the problem goes away...those are things I would try. -
Firefox crashes while logged into Lumosity
This what I related to Lumosity support:
I'm using Mozilla Firefox 22.0 (up to date) with Win7 and IE10 10.0.9200.16618 update version 10.0.6 is in the background (not using it for browsing, etc). I believe Java is involved in gaming, so here is that data: Java Deployment Toolkit 7.0.250.17 10.25.2.17 and Java TM Platform SE7 U25 10.25.2.17 Whether I access Lumosity by email link or directly by the URL, Mozilla is crashing repeatedly, going on days now. It tends to crash with Disillusion very frequently (in other words when I finally get access, it crashes repeatedly). It has crashed on Familiar Faces and Rising Word Bubbles . I wish I could give you a better list - but it seems to crash w/more demanding games. It crashes while loading the game. The progress bar gets one-quarter into the load before it goes down.
I have been sending crash reports to Mozilla. I have looked on line for some answers. Nothing found yet in the way of answers. I have seen that various people (general online chats/forums) are experiencing the crashes and obtaining no answers. If there is more info you need that would help analyze and fix this, please let me know.
I have gone through Mozilla's general help about crashes and have restarted Mozilla in safe mode (no add ons) and I have opted out of using hardware acceleration (permanently). I do not think it's crashed in the safe mode.
My husband uses Lumosity on his computer and his entire computer shuts down. He has the same systems I have only on a PC (mine is a laptop). His Java versions, (Toolkit) - 7.0.60.24 10.6.2.24 Java TM Platform SE7 U610.6.2.24.
I received response from Lumosity and understand that support believes this issue may be due to a compatibility issue with plugins on the new version of Firefox. I also understand that Lumosity depends on Adobe Flash Player, so after discussion w/Lumosity support, I updated my Adobe Flash Player to v. 11.8.800.94. BTW Lumosity support is able to recreate the events w/Firefox and to control them by starting Firefox in safe mode.
I have uninstalled Firefox, deleted the Mozilla folder from the program files as outlined in support info. I did notice that uninstalling Firefox did not uninstall Mozilla Maintenance Service v. 22 7-2-13 333 KB. There were several folders in the Mozilla folder when I deleted it, the Maintenance file being one of them I am sure, and it is now dated today's date, v. 22 at 219kb.
In the process of this, I had notice of Windows updates, so I rebooted the computer to let the updates install. I went back to Mozilla and logged on to Lumosity, opened the game "Disillusion" and it started up fast w/o crashing. However, the very next game I opened, Rising Word Bubbles, it crashed. Twice or so. I opened Mozilla in safe mode and it did not crash when I played one of the games.
I think I have listed everything that I've done. Sure could use some help to fix this. I've even backed up and defragged.
One last thing, I had installed "Memeo Premium Backup" and was having trouble with that program crashing, Windows indicating it would debug and advise (nothing received on that). I am wondering if those problems were also a part of this problem. I have since gone back to "Memeo Instant Backup" which works fine. FYI
Now, I see there is a button to push that will automatically do something. I think I'll copy my notes, just in case. Probably TMI for an auto response anyway.
Help. Thank you!
I typically LOVE Mozilla and spread the word ... oh please let there be an answer. ;)
(Cool, didn't expect the data after I clicked the button and installed. Woo-hoo. Keep on rocking Mozilla.)
Thank you,
JennThanks - I'll go the "safe" route and disable add ons.
